By far the best demonstration of this pedal by someone who can actually play! Also, I was interested in the blend/dry control and you demonstrated this very well too, thanks!
Sometimes if I haven't watched one of your videos for a few days, I begin to forget just how good you are! (And by "good," I mean effing amazing!) Great intro piece, love how your soloing follows the chord changes. And that lick you played while demo-ing Stage Five, at around 10:05 - good lord!!
I want this pedal- not because of this demo- this guy could make a turd sound great- once he figured out where to plug it in. I wanted it before I watched this- it's an amazing overdrive- 5 distinct gain modes, the ability to blend in clean signal with each one, and a potent eq. I think it's one of the most versatile, innovative drives on the market- and it sounds great.
Hey Shawn. Love the “yoga chord!” I’m currently in hospital recovering from neck surgery. Really like this pedal and am looking forward to being able to play guitar again.
Thanks Shawn. This thing hit me outa nowhere. A month ago I noticed a tingling in my finger and two weeks later I couldn’t play guitar. That was scary! I’m hoping that with a lot of physical therapy I’ll be playing again fairly soon.
Sometimes overdrive pedals do sound a bit boxy. I think overdrive pedals need a certain amount of volume to have a open sound. Like a tubescreamer, you have to crank the volume knob. This pedal does sound great but it seems the same? I cant explain myself. Its like plying 1x12 speaker cabinet instead of 4x12. Does this overdrive pedal sounds open or boxed?
You demo fantastic pedals, different ones every time. But you know what? I'd love to hear you play clean, more often. I mean, just cuz we play guitar, doesn't mean we're sentenced to play only rock & blues for life. There are some other terrific musical aesthetics & traditions. Some of them don't even need pedals of _any_ kind.
The Les Paul makes a return! Looks like it might be different than the R8 you were playing back in 2015, maybe? Either way, the playing is on point as always.
Thanks! Yes I did use an R8 in some demo vids. That guitar belongs to Chris Van Tassel of Rockett Pedals and he was very kind to loan it to me for a while. The R9 in this video is also a borrowed guitar and it's by far the best R9 I've ever played.
Like the 5th mode :) that, together with the 1st covers a lot of spectrum. The downside is that you can't switch from one mode to another without accessing the knobs. A 2nd footswitch to flicker through 1 to 5 would have been welcome... Thanks Shawn! \m/
...let alone mess with the nobs mid flight! ...when I look at all these pedals, that's my concern ...presumably, live you'd have to have two or three of the same pedal set up as you wish to switch between sounds (if discernable) which brings you back to simplicity and the sound in your fingers?
Cool to see you playing a Lester and a cracking looking one at that. That Suhr is the business though and the pedal seems decent. Quite flexible but I always fee Swiss army pedals like that should always have preset availability... great playing as ever Shawn and even better pronunciation of Walrus at the end 😂
Love the demo shawn! Thanks for the review. I'm sort of torn between this one, and the pettyjohn gold MK2 (and tbh the DM drive from keeley) is there one that would stand out to you among that heap? I tend to go towards fuzz pedals if I want higher/fizzy gain structures to thicken tracks, but some of that gritty mid range classic rock tone is....an ocean of choice. :/
How can I learn to riff like that? I know all the scales etc and it seems like most of what his level players deal with is a lot of chromatic thrown in with the scales but I still can’t figure it out. anyone can point me in the right direction or lesson to learn how to play those kind of riffs? please thank you I’m sick of what I play!
In the performance part of the video, I'll add delays or verbs in post but never eq or compression. In the demo part of the videos, I usually have a short delay on that is subtle and nothing else.
Hi Shawn. Once again, incredible playing, tone, feel and technique. Just curious, what outputs do you use coming out of your UAD Ox into your interface, and why you decided to use those outputs? The sound you achieve is just heavenly. Please, stay well and safe. Extremely difficult time we now live in.
Thanks so much! I'm actually using the TRS outputs which is actually counter intuitive as it creates one more stage of A/D conversion but it sounds fine that way to me so I'm not going to mess with it. ;)
Why did I click? I'm super happy with my 3 overdrives - I guess it's to see Shawn rip-it-up. Makes sense now. Pedal seems versatile and sounds hot. Love the clean-blend concept.
Explain how the client gets value from that? Liked before listening. You a puppet? The client sees that and thinks 'this was a waste of money'. And, it was, in your case.
@@leehowe5937 A clean signal on top of a high gain makes zero sense. If you have an amp with gain and only want to add a little, OK, but then you just turn down the gain knob. I see no purpose, glad someone does.
It's actually kinda what is driving me to this pedal. I have a JHS Moonshine (Tubescreamer style (In a Double Barrel V3)) and the only thing I like about it is the Clean Blend. I can understand why metal guys wouldn't like it, especially where every note has the same attack; but in blues, Americana, jam, ambient, indie, rock and roll, the availability of your pick articulation and dynamics mixed back into the overdriven signal (like on modern compressors with a Blend), it's a really cool presence to bring the acoustics of your playing back into the mix. I could understand why Drop D Godsmack guys wouldn't have any use for it, but if you've ever heard the Balance album by Van Halen, you can tell he has two amplifiers on the rhythm parts, one spanky clean and the other one overdriving pretty hard: It's a glorious sound. There's a big, gainy, distortion sound, but there's also a guy playing a stringed instrument, too. But if all you're looking for is a super squashed, mid scooped Megadeth sound, then yeah, you don't need that option. But I don't know why you'd be checking out Walrus Audio instead of Metal Zone.
@@joshuasummers6109 I'm a 70s guy, but I do appreciate your explanation. If I ever add gain to an already gainy amp. I'll have to try it. Into a clean amp it has no function. My gainy amps need no pedal, but I hear what you are saying.
Walrus sounds at the end, these are the thoughtful touches that keep me coming back.

"Yoga chord." That was spectacular! :-)
I just ordered this! Will be replacing my klone and pairing with my jhs double barrel and Scarlett love v1

You're so inspiring Shawn! LOVE this demo!
That was your most danceable intro song in ages. Excellent work.
Amazing demo, you made this thing sound even better than in Walrus’ own video. Expertly dialed in each mode to perfection, well done!

Wow! Great playing!. This demo is as usual well done and shows very well what you can do with this pedal.
that's the nicest LP tone I've heard in ages. great opening riffs. yoga? I think contortionist chords fits that chord.
Great demo and playing - as always. Would love to see a Vid on how you came to play on STP unplugged and a bit of a BIO into that world...
Sounding killer Shawn!! Good to see and hear that Paul!!🔥
Thanks Jimmie! Yes that R9 is a remarkable guitar. It belongs to a friend of mine.

AWESOME AS ALWAYS! KEEP IT UP!
You are just a quality musician man,,,that was some good stuff
Great track and killer licks!! Love your playing.
dry doesn't sound dry, wish it was totally void of gain and you could mix drive with clean, would sound great for clarity of chords
Super impressed. That sounds awesome!

Buy a few knob extenders and use a small rubber band as a gasket to keep them in place, works wonders!
Maybe it's just me, but pedal graphics are going over my head more and more...! lol great demo as usual! Ok pedal too!
LOL, yeah, all through I kept on thinking, How does Walrus = Elephant?"
What Les Paul is that? Can’t say I remember that being in your arsenal.
That R9 belongs to a friend of mine who was kind enough to let me borrow it.

Shawn Tubbs Woolris O-dee-oh 😆
Sheeeeeesh these tones are sick!
I only wish this pedal had a tone and bass control or mud control. I find bass and treble to be limiting.
I ended up with the MXR M77 as a result.
It does have a bass control,
Very versatile pedal 👍🏽
Thanks so much for watching and commenting.
No idea how Yoga Chord wasn't already a thing. That exactly what those chords are, just couldn't quite think what to call it. That's it, Yoga Chords!

That intro was badass, better be careful that Blackberry Smoke or Greta Von Fleet don't steal it from ya, my man!
When you demo pedals, are you running to the amp with just the pedal, or do you add compression, delay or other effects.
In the performance part of the video, I'll add delays or verbs in post but never eq or compression. In the demo part of the videos, I usually have a short delay on that is subtle and nothing else.

I'll never understand a dry blend in a gain pedal. About as useless as possible...edit: for me, below you'll see many have a use for it :O)
I wouldn't have a gain pedal without a blend it's a great tool. Depending on the amp you use.
