I want to thank you for your tips about conversation starters. I used to be an extrovert. As I have grown older, it seems I have be one more introvert which has resulted in being closed off but longing for connection. It is nice to have guidance for topics to talk about because everyday topics can be limited and lacking. Thank you!
Some of those seem really vague and broad. i can see those questions being more suitable with someone i'm somewhat familiar with like a co-worker, an associate, a neighbor, but with a stranger or someone i'm trying to date, no way. me, personally, i'd get annoyed real fast. i understand conversation shouldn't be a "job interview", but i don't think there's anything wrong with the generic questions as long as you can give back. That's the real art.
I found you back in September 2018 because I needed help in a new social situation and it helped me soooo much. Now I am needing help with dealing with this other parent at school. I dont know if this is part of your scope, but I cant handle this one parent who thinks her kid is perfect, yet I see what he is *actually* like.... she's so negative and she makes me feel on edge. She's my ambivalent relationship. I have to see her everyday and talk to her but I hate it.
One of my faves is asking someone about what they're doing/holding. I love being asked that because it shows that the person takes interest in something I chose to partake in. On the flip side I get the best reactions from people when I ask that. The key is to be genuine and sincere about it.
thank you for these tips. Many times i wanted to talk with someone but i just didnt know how to start the conversation. So instead i would say nothing and hoping the other person started the converstation (most of the time they didnt). But im going to use these tips in my life and hopefully getting better at starting a conversation and keep the conversation going. Maybe make someone friends
Hey... I watch your video daily..... Your videos are really fruit ful in making great conversations.....count me as one of the followers . I am your fan
I'm trying to figure out what else to call a, "personal passion project". I love that it's about something both personal and bigger than a passing interest. I just need a term that suits me/ the people I approach better. 🤔
Does Vanessa have videos on reading criminals or what kind of unusual behavior to look out for to avoid being assaulted? I know it is different from her usual content, but I would like to see that.
its_a_trab forreal? I don’t understand how this would be possible... do u just go up to someone u don’t know and the forst thing u say is “so what’s ur story”. That’s creepy af ,no?
because I work from home, I'm really isolated. I'd like to engage more but in all honesty, being asked a million questions makes me recoil. Like off the bat I can't think of anyone really who is a role model to me etc etc. My family is one big mess that I stay away from so any questions about family is uncomfortable for me. I do like being around people if it happens gradually and organically, but being thrust into a social situation is just ugh lol
Working from home does have its ups and downs, and feeling isolated can be tough. It's completely okay to want connections to form naturally rather than feeling pushed into social situations. Maybe you could start small by engaging in online communities or forums that align with your interests. This way, you can interact at your own pace and gradually build connections without the pressure of rapid-fire questions or uncomfortable topics. 🙏🏻
I have a question, how do I have deep conversations with my best friend/boyfriend who uses big words that alot of times I don't understand. Also he says that I'm not able to or don't hold deep convos with him. He says he don't want just about what's going on today or what happened today or movies or games. Please I need to be able to do more and need good advice. I do t want to lose this relationship. Please help me!
I've asked a few people some of these questions, and they either ignore me or tell me something totally different than the answer to the question. I must have made them uncomfortable or something. But it's been kinda funny.
It’s important to use it in the right context. Read her book on spotting cues and choosing the correct environment to use this. It could be a generational thing, too.

To most of these questions, my answer is N/A. Or, I can't think of an answer on the spot. Hence I would not ask those questions myself as the other person would answer N/A or can't think of an answer on the spot.

I dont like most of these. If i meet someone randomly at party or work pantry, im not going to ask them "tell me about yourself" or "what personal passion projects are you working on..." those are loaded questions and seem wayy too formal for someone u just met. I am just looking for ice breakers or soft convo starts with folks i meet quickly for a quick chat at work etc I did like "working on anything exciting recently.." it seems like a normal thing to ask. Or "did you see xxx viral video?" Those are fun and light and not too deep
If someone is going to ask me to tell them about myself I am going to ask why. My life is a large subject and i will need to narrow it down to something specific or i will talk for hours.

I am generally a good conversationalist, but sometimes I run out of subjects to converse... Thank you for providing these conversation starters.
Thanks!
Thanks so much!
I am seriously so thankful for you! I’m working on getting myself back after years of battling internal insecurities 😍
Some of these are really good, my problem is that many times i forget these when I'm in conversation, how do you guys remember these?
Very true my dear. Everything vacates my brain
It sounds like you are with someone but your attention is on yourself. Just get curious and interested with people and you will forget about yourself.
Write them down in your phone
They say for 1 min of perfection it takes 1 hour of practice
Write them down, and read it off a notepad when you are talking to a new person. That way, there is no way they will think you're weird.
That's much more substantial than i expected a 10-minute video would go. Thanks, V!
You just nailed these down VVE. You go girl. This is real. Keep it up girl.

I find this question very invasive. I would need to prepare an answer so I can say something superficial.
Really? what are the replies you've gotten?

The way she grouped toddlers with extroverts 😂
What's your story? Where I'm from i think itll be quite rude to ask that.
Agree.😀
It’s important to use it in the right context. Read her book on spotting cues and choosing the correct environment to use this. It could be a generational thing, too.

Summary: Ask open ended questions!!!
I have used most of these starters and I ended up having an awkward moment and to be more precise it was with friends !
I find yes/no questions are usually dead in the water.
🤤

These are ok but not good for shy people. They seem aggressive for both the person approaching and the approachee

P 2 :.......
All your conversations are based on questions.
I have had so many people how much they hate “tell me about you” when I say it. So I am going to avoid that one tip.
If someone is going to ask me to tell them about myself I am going to ask why. My life is a large subject and i will need to narrow it down to something specific or i will talk for hours.
