"And i'm frankly - " then she pauses. Definitively not honest.

I think you made some good points. ANYONE can make a good story regardless of their sexual orientation. But the problem right now is they put their FOCUS on inclusion and diversity first and foremost above everything else at the expense of good storytelling and appealing to the fans sets it up for failure.

Leslye Headland is either super naive or very dishonest. I think it's the 2nd option, just given the fact that everything in this show is so obviously DIFFERENT from what star wars IS, and supposedly "it changed her life" lol, you know, from that time when she cried about ot ? She might act better than she writes after all 😑

My brother was g*y and I grew up with bl*ck people. I'm 67 yr old women , I have been watching these types of movies since I was a kid, most of my female friends never watch these movies. I have been called a ra*ist, for not liking what they did in this series. Barbie did well mainly women and young girls, not one man or boy said love to go and see that movie. Never, in the history of movie making they blame the fans and run them down by a director and actors for a movie failing. Since I'm not LGBQW I'm a straight white women, being called a r*cist, I won't support any actor or director that ran down the fans. I'm sure there is enough none racist LGBQW to watch the series..

LOL They always stick to the script.
How about responding to the criticisms that it is poorly written and poorly executed?
Nah they won't give that oxygen.

It's not even about a disconnect in gay writers writing for straight audiences. This show is trash for ANY audience.

"I never intended to make a show with an overt political agenda", ok lets say I buy this for one moment. Let us go with the bs that perhaps Leslie didn’t create a show that has an overt political agenda that isn't projecting a matriarchal society as 100% in the right, or at the very least want us to view it as better, than the gender equal Jedi Order.
Even if that is true, the show is still trying to convey a particular world view, one that not all may agree with. Whether its the society of the Witches, the scheming undertones of the Jedi or the childish argumenation between the sisters about the Jedi's morality, there is no way these ideas or the form they took were "accidental" on Leslie's part.
But lets remove the politics, even if you wanted to look at this show, through an a-political lense, its still a bad show. The characters can only convey thoughts and emotions by saying them outloud, they change motivations every episode, the plot is built on convenience and contrivance, the concept of time is irrelevant and any chance for interesting story telling, is botched by taking the most boring and uninteresting roots possible.
I've said it before about this show, but the Acolyte is simply ideas and story beats that we've seen in other, BETTER Star Wars shows. The key is that Leslie and her writers, can only see the appeal of a concept and fail to take into account HOW to do those concepts well

I think people would ask you why you think lesbians don't have or exist in families. When you say "family" you're actually saying a lot more. I see this as a flaw in your ability to criticize, that's your lack of self awareness. And I hate the show, we need our soldiers on point. You will have to defend that if you gain a wide enough audience.

First. In a natural world without medical intervention, there is NO FAMILY for lesbian couples. Period. You CANNOT have children without a male and female. End of story.
Second. Because of the above, anything outside heteronormativity is explicitly defined as ABNORMAL. The human condition is STRAIGHT.
      Hence, straight = family.

What the hell kind of takeaway is THAT? People are pissed that the writing is abysmal, not that there are gay women in the show

I agree , show is ass period for many reasons. I think the argument that lesbian people can’t write stuff for straight men that relates to them as consistently as other straight people that’s a very bad argument because writing is not easy to start period I think if you can write a good story you can write a good story . Don’t fall for the trap these people can’t write and they did not hire with that as the utmost priority. For example this show would not be better if I related more to families in the show and they were more traditional the show would still be ass

Hey ST, i really enjoy your videos. I have a take on these Gay writers rooms to expand on what you were saying here.
-These folks look around, and rightly so to a large degree, say “I’m normal, this is normal. people should not be affected by this, Gay marriage and pride is here to stay we need to normalize it” but like you said this is not the Family Oriented stuff Disney built it’s brand on. Nothing wrong with that content. Disney and Star Wars might not be the best place and they are out of touch.
Or maybe I’m out of touch for what beliefs they hold. And maybe it’s already normal to them and I can’t know that with my tiny mjdwestern mind.

Here's the thing though: if we assume that there's equality between heterosexual and gay content in media and in general, then why don't the same criticisms ever apply when the audience has to suffer through a hammy heterosexual romance as the B plot of a movie that's supposed to be action schlock?
Nobody ever complains about 'bad writing' when a male action movie hero is flirting with a woman. However, you can have the exact same scenario and change the woman into a man, and suddenly it's pushing an agenda. The exact same scenario. How is the writing different?
Complaining about it being not family-friendly assumes that there is something inherently not family-friendly about gay relationships as a concept. So no, until a majority of people are comfortable discussing gay relationships with Little Timmy the same way they'd discuss Nala and Simba's relationship in The Lion King, there isn't equality and that's why many gay creators still feel the need to overcompensate with their writing.
What many gay creators fail to understand is that heteronormativity IS a biological default for most species including humans. It's like that for a reason, and they aren't going to change opinions by trying to act like it's not. You need to play around homosexuality being an outlier identity type. If you're creating a world or setting where part of the fantasy is that biases against certain genders or sexualities don't exist (after all, that is what escapism is for) then you need to assume that your audience is going to be mostly heterosexual, and it's really important to make the characters captivate the audience first BEFORE you go diving into their sexualities.
Unless you're writing for a specifically LGBTQ audience, in which case you should create your own thing and really lean into your audience's expectations.

She got the point... and the millions of dollars. You don't get the point. Disney isn't trying to MAKE MONEY.
But I guess you'd have nothing else to talk about then...
