This is really disturbing, she should not be joining their dates then be "offended " or hurt she wasn't invited, your child should NOT be your other half, she needs her own life & therapy, this is selfish emotional control that has bled into a grown womans life

This. This is a trap many single mothers fall into. Personally, I also know many disturbed children of single mothers who only rely on their mom for social contacts (they have no siblings or significantly older siblings) and don't even have friends. More people need to become aware of this unhealthy enmeshment in families and offer help....

@Patricia Lopez Sometimes that's the only way, I understand that. Kudos for doing what is best for your children! We can't fix other people, sadly, not even our parents. They have to want to get better, and sometimes they don't even see the problem...

    • @kileaste
      @kileaste 4 года назад +7

@@comkver there is a lot of people in the world that move in together before getting married. I think is a more logical step to know how your relationship evolves based on living on the same space, than going for the biggest jump ever by just getting married and committing your whole life with one person than you don't know how behaves in different circumstances. This for me seems logical based on his past experiences, he might want to take things step-by-step to not commit the same mistakes again.
Moving in also gives Angelica space to transition between having her mother 100% to having a more split/independent life and see if this arrangement works for her in the long term.
I agree that is better for him to end his divorce first before continuing taking steps forward with Angelica. But to be honest, there are a lot of reasons why people don't get divorced. Money, disputes, lack of interest/benefits, emotional stress, fights, paperwork. These kind of things, if they are not amicable, can last years and years. I think none of us knows the circumstances of why he hasn't finalized his divorce, and honestly, Angelica doesn't seem to care that much either.

Angelicas mother puts so much expectations on her to meet her own needs even if it’s negatively impacting Angelicas happiness.
My mom is the same. She neglected my needs + wants as a kid and only cared about what I could do for her, so now I have very little love or attachment towards my mom. She expects me to provide her with what she did not receive from her own mother.
I can’t describe how awful it is to grow up with a single mother like this and even as an adult I carry so much resentment towards her. All I could do is continue going to therapy and make sure I’m healed from my traumas before I have kids, so I can stop this pattern of toxic parenting.
Wish these mothers were self-aware enough to recognize how hurt and traumatized they are on the inside instead of having kids to give them the love and need they are unable to provide for themselves.

Angelica's mom is a covert narcissist, which is why their dynamic as grown adults is still based on approval, people pleasing (in this case her mom), and emotional self-neglect which harms her external (non-controlling) relationships all to keep her mom's unhealed emotions under control. I grew up in a family like this, and it's kinda sad to see she still hasn't broken the chains mentally that her mom has on her.

So as an adult both parties truly believe the daughter is making her own choice when really she has been programmed to please the mom! When we moved 4 hours away I had to ask my mom if she was sad, she said of course she was but she never wanted me to feel bad about the choices my husband and I made because they aren't about her. She never says she misses us and said her mom did the same thing and she really appreciated it.

Thanks for the vids Dr. Honda.... When you spoke about always looking out for others and forgetting own needs etc i didn't expect that to hit me hard. It's something I've buried and its really stalled my life for 35 years and now I don't even have the time or energy to deal with it. However your words and these videos are helping to motivate me to deal with that burden of mine.

This show is great to react to, Dr. Honda! Thank you! The infiltration of invasive mother-in-laws is a slow, pernicious and malignant killer. It attacks many a relationship and typically the son or daughter cannot see it, hence its pernicious quality.

What if because of mental + physical illnesses you basically HAVE to depend on your mom for things, and that prevents you from wanting to move away because you'll be left without that super valuable help? It's also made me grown close to her which gives me another reason to want to stay.

What next...the mum will say "Hey if you love mummy then let me watch you guys have sex...i want to experience the bonding"!
😑The mum is manipulative in many ways and tries to make her daughter have stress to feel guilty if she doesn't involve her mum.I think she needs therapy.
Maybe the Mum wil be more happier if she made them split up so she can get her daughter back for herself.

This is great, thank you! From a cultural competence perspective, how does one help clients develop a sense of self if they come from a more group oriented culture where they are almost expected to give up what they want as individuals to help the group as a whole?

He did mention in a previous video (about tom and darcey) that there are special cognitive therapists that help you through it. But on a cheaper level, i guess just checking in with yourself to see what you do that brings you joy and what you want and don't want

When Ii was 50 Ifinally realized Im an abuse survivor. The psychiayrists diagnosed me with 8 different mental disordets which told me they DO NOt know what the re doing and I dont belive in psychiatry any more. I ve had a sad life.

Angelica is is NOT Sunhe's girlfriend or wife, she is her DAUGHTER. Therefore, it is not her job to have an emotionally intimate attachment to her mother. The dynamic between the two is NOT healthy, period. Also, Angelica needs to grow a spine and stop living for her mother and prioritize having a life, existence and identity outside of being a daughter.

    THIS GIRL FEELS GUILT. Crushing Mom-guilt. "I * can't * abandon her!"
The movie Tangled is all that comes to mind. If this boyfriend dumps her you can just BET that mom will cuddle and caress her and give her the message that "See, he was just a bad guy, you can't trust any man, you can only trust mother dearest to be there for you forever and take care of you."

codependency at it's worst, yea her mom needs to get a hobby and get some friends. She's using her daughter almost like a drug to her, she's addicted to her. Exactly I know a few people who are legally married but were separated for years and dating others because it can be a long expensive process but it has nothing to with them wanting to be together still. Her mom is just finding excuses for her not to move.
