  • After the closures of three studios at Xbox, things aren't looking good for big budget games. I can think of someone who may be able to help.

    I still hope Sly Cooper returns with Sly 5. I agree with you on how Sly Cooper can save Triple A Gaming and Sony still needs to find an acquired studio to handle Sly Cooper for a long period of time.

    I’m really hoping Astrobot is massively successful to show Sony there is a hungry platformer audience out there. Bring back Sly or similar franchises and make them “budget” games between $40-$60. Those games could have smaller budgets and dev times and could help fill out the dry months in between blockbuster releases

    19:57 Bungie is technically owned by Sony but they're free to do what they want from their projects to management due to the contract signed, just as long as they don't fall behind a certain amount of revenue (or something like that at least). This pretty much means Bungie themselves decided to layoff devs.
    So outside of TiTs costs logic being flawed and Bungie not being related to Xbox anymore this was honestly a good vid. I was expecting a "Sly 5 will save game industry!!!" type of vid or something but no you actually made a solid analogy using the history of a still relevant game studio, relatively niche platformer IP from 6th gen/PS2 and the current AAA game industry.

      Thanks for the input Friend. I agree, making claims that one franchise being able to save the world is places way to much pressure on anything lol. Just looking for games that are reasonably scaled so coming up short doesn't cost people jobs haha. Slys a good example of that

    I would do anything to bring Sly Cooper back. I was looking forward to the movie and I feel that the franchise can be continued with more games. Sly and Carmelita can definitely have a relationship and so can Bentley and Penelope. You could even give Murray a girlfriend by pairing him up with the Panda king's daughter.

    Btw, just letting you know, that wasn't Arrowhead's idea, that was PlayStation themselves. In fact, Arrowhead threw in some negative reviews too, and that really helped Sony reverse their decision. Bullying corporate entities has never felt so good XD

      Oh 100% that was papa Sonys doing. I'm all for letting companies have an earful. My point was to not let things go to far, which most people involved in the Helldivers bomb did. Which is why it's a good example. Thanks for the input!

    All I want is AI upscale version of the originals. Don't worry about doing anything other than bug test with AI. All the game being ported to pc and ps5. Sony could do this to make so much more money.

  • @TerrorOfTalos
    @TerrorOfTalos Месяц назад +1

    11:44 this point is very flawed, 9 million was a *projected* cost in *2008/2009.* The game most likely cost much more than that when it was all said and done. What the final cost was mixed with sales revenue wasn't enough for Sony to be confident in greenlighting any sly cooper project afterwards (despite sanzaru still showing interest). Also sanzaru was fine because they were never reliant on Sony; they always had backup plans via other publishers eventually leading them to be purchased by Facebook.

    • @wyattpressesbuttons
      @wyattpressesbuttons  Месяц назад

      Correct that is projected cost. Point being, the game wasn't massively over budgeted so even if it came up short and Sony moved on, it wasn't a disaster for either Sanzaru or Sony. Even if the numbers are estimates

      @@wyattpressesbuttons Yes your general point is correct; I just wanted to clarify aspects about it. Also more partner games with independent studios can go a long way for content output and not having to potentially close a studio down if it does poorly.

    I wouldn’t go as far to say it would save AAA games ‘cause knowing Sony they throw something to steal money constantly inside the game. But having Sly Cooper come to every platform would be amazing and step forward in the gaming generation. If Sony makes it exclusive, then it’ll just fail like every other title they have. 🤷‍♂️

    19:27 I watched the beginning of that conference and you could tell how bored they were talking about stuff. Constantly fluttering their eyes and looking up in a corner.
    Sarah Bond doesn't come across to me as someone who's a gamer who's passionate about the hobby. This is just a grind for her between latte breaks.

    I totally disagree that south park snow day is a bad game. It's budget title that matt and trey wanted a different genre of game while trying new 3d style for south park. If they charged 50 or 60 for the game it would be a rip off. That is the point of releasing a budget title. Hades 2 is 30 dollars it's a budget title. Why don't gamers understand budget titles exist? You complaining about not getting this franchise due to budgets. If you embraced budget titles we would get older franchises coming back. Make it make sense? Your expectations vs how much you pay. Sly cooper game comes out and it's short experience or remake/remaster. What price seems fair? What if it's copy paste release of the franchise. Only resolution difference and UI scaling? Budget title you wouldn't complain, but you complain about south park. This is why Sony don't make lower budget games.

      Actually Sony Interactive Entertainment realized their smaller scale projects tend to cost more developing than earning back that money
      As such have launched several intiatives where said smaller experimental projects are sponsored at a fraction of the cost

      @bamban_garcia5562 I totally disagree with this idea. Amazing selling games like spyro and Crash Trilogies did really well. Sony has been doing bare minimum ports to ps4. Cash grab remasters. Spongebob battle for bikini bottom dehydrated sold so well they made a new game. Crash sold so well we got crash 4. Only reason we didn't get spyro 4 is toys for boy were pulled in to work on diablo 2 remake. Sony doesn't make budget titles.
