Epica is the best example of The Beauty and the beast
their drummer has the nickname "the beast" lol 🤘😎🤘
I knew that you would like Epica! This song actually is a good introduction to them because it shows their versatility. They have beautiful ballads ("Rivers" ! ) and also harder songs ("Consign to Oblivion).
This video is from their 10th Anniversary concert where they played together with a whole orchestra and choir. That is not standard, but they are equally good just as a band. Like Nightwish they are best watched live. (The "Omega Alive" videos were created during Covid Times and are without crowd, but still very good.)
This year in september there will again be concerts with orchestra and choir. Two shows in Amsterdam and 2 in Mexico City. But probably you won't be able to get a ticket anymore. (I won't sell mine! 😁)
In the show you just watched, Simone was pregnant.

The growler (Mark Jansen) is the founder of the band. Before Epica, he played in the band "After Forever", together with Floor Jansen. They are also worth to react to.

@@seanherskowitz5998 Yes! But I would go for studio version with lyrics. It's better for first time listeners because they can hear all the instruments and choirs. In the live version Simone sings the choir parts and male choir is very low in the mix, you can barely hear it.

Great to see such an honest reaction to Epica! I hope you continue with them! They have been playing together for 20 years so there is a lot of material to delve into! This was taken from their 10th anniversary concert called "Retrospect 2013". By the way, the singer was 3 months pregnant while performing this 3-hour concert. The song "Unleashed" from this show is also popular with reaction channels, and I also have a particular soft spot for the song "Monopoly on Truth" from the show.
Another classic Epica song among reactors is "Consign to Oblivion" live at the Zenith in Paris.
If you want to want to check the early days of Epica, here are two suggestions:
* "The Phantom Agony" performed in 2004 at a TV studio performance that was later released by the band as "We will take you with us", but the title of the original TV programme is "2-meter sessies" (two-metre session). Make sure you find the remastered HD version, since the original low-resolution is terrible to look at. You find it on the Epica RUclips channel uploaded around 1 year ago.
* "Blank Infinity" performed at the venue Paradiso in Amsterdam in 2006. Again, make sure to find the HD version.
50 % of the band members have been changed since those early days, so if you see some unfamiliar faces in the old videos, that is the reason.
During the Pandemic, in 2021, Epica arranged a sort of "concert without an audience" called "Omega Alive". They performed a bunch of their songs live in a studio, with a full stage show, but only for the cameras. The results, which were released on DVD and later streamed, look like music videos, but are actual true live performances. From that project, I particularly recommend:
* "Kingdom of Heaven, part 1"
* "Kingdom of Heaven, part 3"
* "The Obsessive Devotion"

CtO should only be suggested to people who are OK with a lot of growling. And even then, I wouldn't suggest as first or second reaction.
@@Divide_et_lmpera Well I don't agree, I believe a large part of the fun in these kinds of reaction videos is seeing people throwing themselves into the deep end of the pool -- not easing them into a new band by starting with the easiest listens. Of course, one has to apply some judgement, but in this case she has already expressed that symphonic metal is her thing, and she didn't object to the growling in "Chasing the Dragon".
I loved the growling in the chasing the dragon and until that point i didn t much like growling in general, thanks for the history and suggestions

Btw, the growling guy is Mark Jansen, he's the founder and mastermind of Epica, and Simone was his GF at the time she joined the newly formed band in 2002.

Epica is a great choice Zoey. There are a lot of excellent Symphonic metal bands out there and Epica is one of the best. You should check them out performing 'Sancta Terra' where Floor joins Simone in an epic roller coaster of a song. Love ya little sister 🤗 stay safe
Love this!!!!! My favourite Epica track from the start.. so far! Excellent!.... The growling man is Mark Jansen (no relation to Floor but was in the same band before Epica!) P.S. If you like faster "power metal" with a male voice - check out Kamelot! Epica took their name from a Kamelot album and Simone is married to the keyboard player in Kamelot, Oliver Palotai!

Epica is often lumped in with Nightwish as both being 'symphonic metal', but Epica are by far the harder band. Both are amazing bands, both have their own sound.
You can watch Epica - Sancta Terra (feat Floor Jansen), it's awesome, Simone and Floor are friends

Lots of people will ask you to react to ayreon with floor and simone. A good one to start with is the day that the world breaks down
Epica is a mix of Hard song, soft songs and epics, just like Nightwish, and if you like it a bit hard EPICA got it, i would say they go harder overall then Nightwish, for me i love both bands, and cant choose my favorite, i got the feeling you are gonna love Epica to after you describe what you like they fit perfect for that..
Its often this beauty and the beaqst vibe, with Simone being the beauty, and Mark Jansen (growl guy) being the beast.. its a deep rabbit hole, and i think this band will stick with you forever if you go there.
For me its the 2 big queens in symfonic metal Simone and Floor..

You don't like growls. Try "Jinjer" (ukrainian band) or "Heilung". Or Mongolian overtone singing by "The Hu".
i think she's enjoyed the growls here, maybe it's a start for her to start loving them hehe
