Yeah, Minty. Just how in the world can you afford such a large home??? The Australian economy must be in a very good place!!! Much better than here, in the U.S.!!!
@brandonpage7087 lol we have an insane housing crisis and cost of living nightmare, for the average Australian it's probably the worst economic situation Australia has ever been in
Robin W was a comedy genius and his comedic roles are legendary, but his serious roles. His serious roles are criminally underrated. He was an amazing actor.
The shoe factory and some of the street scenes were filmed a few miles from my house in north berwick Maine. Got to see the cop car that the elephant walks over and toward the end of the day Robin Williams came out and met the group of people that had gathered and took the time to shake all our hands and talk with us. Such an amazing person and I feel so lucky to have had that opportunity ❤
While some of the Jumanji scenes were in "Vancouver" many were in a suburb of Vancouver called "Maple Ridge" where I grew up and still reside. My sister actually lives in a townhouse with her window facing where the cop's car breaks down and then gets dragged into the woods by a plant. We still enjoy a glass of wine when I'm over and reminisce of the psychotic plant that's "still out there" lol.
When Jumanji was released, a brand new movie theater, the first one to be near my house without a 30 minute drive, opened the same day and the theater charged us a nickel for the tickets and a dime for a large popcorn and large drink, that day only, and I was lucky enough to be part of that. I’m 43 years old now, but was 12 at the time, and I still love Jumanji as much as I do for that experience.
I love Jumanji and I grew up with it too! Your house is so cool and I am in love with it, especially the Blockbuster and 50's diner rooms! I remember the volcano in the fireplace part as being a deleted scene, and that I heard about it in another YT video. That must have been too frightening for the children and everyone else, so maybe that is why the crew deleted it from the original film, but there could have been other reasons such as the movie needing to be a certain length and the crew took out the scenes that didn't make much sense. Actors and actresses usually improvise when they forget their lines or when they are thinking about something else. Lol. Thank you for sharing this with us and I hope to see more of these in the future!
Two things that are a iconic legend here. 1 Jamanji even if it was an accidental thing, it works and continues to be an icon and Minty's House. It is a time portal thing, it is amazing how he set it all up.
I have the same game board. Played a trick on my son when I bought it and had the drum beat playing in the basement. When he found it the game he was shocked!
That was a pretty cool walkthrough! I wouldn’t have expected anything less than you house being decked out with all the cool movie stuff that you have, so much fun!!
I got my parents to rent the Jumanji VHS so many times as a kid, my whole family was sick of seeing it. When the video store was selling their old stock, guess what we bought. And I still have it... and watch it.
Man, you showed your whole house and it looks cool! You have a museum in there 🙌🏽 Make the outside of the Video Store room look like a Blockbuster, maybe change the door to a glass door and add signs outside with movie posters
I've been a fan of Robin Williams pretty much my whole life, my dad was a fan during his standup comedy days. He's known for his almost manic need to improvise and just take off into characters and situations. I'm betting a lot of those outtakes are the director just letting him burn off some of that in-between actual takes. I still have a hard time seeing him on film, I was so heartbroken at his passing, especially the how and why of it. He was a very unique, amazingly talented, and wonderful person. I've never heard anyone ever have a bad thing to say about him.
I was about the same age at the time, and this movie was also special to me, particularly since I was already a fan of the original book! And I think it should be noted that Chris Van Allsburg also wrote the unofficial "sequel" to 'Jumanji'; 'Zathura', which was also made into a movie. =)
This also very well shows how important editing is to a movie in setting the tone and creating a story that is honest and believable. And why some mobie stars often don't know what to expect of the final product until they see it for themselves. This movie could have 20 different iterations with vastly different story feels to it.
Big fan of Robin Williams, and Jumanji was one of my favorite movies as a kid! And if I'd seen the version with the shoes, I would one million percent have wanted a pair for myself!
Wow, Minty, I didn't even know there is a book. And by the author of Polar Express?! Thanks for sharing the art and details. I totally agree the sad, emotional aspects of the story were crucial and gave it depth.
I can only hope for the best for him. He will truly be missed ❤. God is certainly the judge ❤. He was a fun person and a great actor. I truly dont he is at peace.
OMFG Minty!!! I am sooooo jealous of your house!!!! 😭 I wanna move in next door and make up an excuse every day to come over.. "hey minty, got a cup of sugar I could borrow?" 🥺👉👈
I wanted to see what alan was going to do to those bullies. Thirty plus years of jungle survival experience all packed into a little boy who kept his memories? That's got to be the beat down of the century!
REQUEST: Due to the baseball season starting, could you do a Minty video on Mr. Baseball (1992, Comedy), please? There's a lot to discuss about that film--including gaijin going over to play baseball in Japan still using this film as reference to this day.
Jonathan Hyde, who played Sam Parrish/Van Pelt in Jumanji, is from Australia. Brisbane to be precise, although he doesn't live there anymore. And I don't think Jumaji is Jumanji without Van Pelt (who wouldn't scare a fly, if you ask me). But it's a bit of the same setup in terms of roles as in Peter Pan, where the same actor often plays both Wendy's father and Captain Hook. Which reminds me, Mr Hyde played this double role in the 360 Theatre's Peter Pan play in 2009 :)
I think that, perhaps, these improvised takes could have served another purpose. We now have a greater understanding of how Robin Williams could struggle with his mental health, and possibly used comedy as a way to mask his insecurities and to connect with others, and had perhaps invested some of his self-worth. I can imagine that, having built his success around this kind of humorous persona, he might feel more comfortable in a professional setting if he was allowed some leeway to improvise, to let off steam, to relax, and to bond with the cast and crew. When we see the final result, and his more restrained and thoughtful performance, I see a lot of similarities with his performance in The Fisher King from 1991 - which is possibly what the director had been looking for. Perhaps the funny takes were the way for him to calm himself to become vulnerable and display his great sensitivity?
Always loved this movie and I agree, I'm glad they didn't include the loud, joking scenes of Robin (Alan). Part of the reason the movie is so good is the creepy undertone of it which would have been lost had they included the more "goofy" parts.
I saw Jumanji in the cinemas when it came and and I swear it had the Jumanji shoes in it. I then got it in VHS when it came out and I noticed it didn’t have the shoes anymore. I would tell people about the shoes and no one would believe me!
Either Serious or Funny, Robin Williams was the Heart and Soul of Jumanji, sure the Rock Movies weren’t Bad but Robin’s Charm and Acting was astounding as the Special Effects and the Boopers were Fantastic.
Hey Minty. Scenes were filmed in Keene, New Hampshire. New England is a region in the north eastern United States that includes the state of New Hampshire.
