Hey mate. What's next with this car!?!?! Feel like I have been waiting for ages for the next vid! I don't have the skills nor the $$ to do this kind of thing to my 32 so I have to live vicariously through your RUclips channel. Keep up the great work!
WE had a break over Christmas and have been busy with events but Stage 2 for this car will be happening over April/May in time for this years Motive DVD GT-R Challenge and Drag Battle
Very good watch Andrew. You have a great GTR was nice to see it in person at WTAC 2014. keep it up! I follow you on fb looks like you enjoyed yourself in Japan haha.
Yay someone like me who loves response more then just a high power figure. Looks like ill have to do some saving up to change to a 6 speed in my 32gtr. Used to have a 34gtr (until it got stolen) and really enjoyed a 6 speed and then the evo 8 felt like the ratios were even closer but i hated how it felt taking off in first gear. Anyway keep up the awesome vids mate and i look forward to buying the next gtr drag battle dvd :)
u want response? lower unsprung weight, carbon propeller shalf, twin scrolls single turbo, forged or billet internals & moving parts. they help. vvt does help but the vcam available only to the rb26 seems more to me like a power adder than a response enhancer.
+Wezkker LIM We did the twin scroll single turbo conversion in another video. Twins vs Single. the diff ratio/6-speed still makes the biggest difference though
Hi motive. perhaps you have more video about nissan gtr transmision or the Skylines trasnmissions? The diffrences between them or wich is strong or not.or interchangable parts. Out there is any easy 3rd gear replacement wich is stronger for the 5 speed gtr? Or The 6 speed gear can be use in a 5 speed? Any ideas or suggestions?
So what rpm roughly were you launching at with the 5 speed and what did you find was the best launch rpm once you went to the 6 speed with and without drag radials on the car ?
Hi Andrew, I have read in skyline4ever about r34 conversion. It's seems that the hammer the floor to accomadate the gear box. Have you faced this issue? Would like to know if you sell push type sleeve bar? Or would like to know where I can get it. Plus I am looking for tail shaft front part. Let me know of you have a kit for it. Thank you for your time.
Thank you for sharing your excellent videos. Just wondering that with the gearbox swap, does the transfer case on the Getrag behave the same as the original r32 transfer case? ie. Having no preloaded torque to the front driveshaft, so it can be run as a pure RWD for "dyno-tuning" purposes.
is it a good idea to change toe arms if you change the upper control/camber arm? about to do suspension work to my S14 and I hear most tyre wear that people say is camber wear, is actually from bad toe angles
I really like the car but there is one thing that bothers me...the tyres and the rims. They don't really fill out the wheelcases which makes it look a bit weak kind of. The Hi Octane Time Attack R32 shown in the reuploaded parts, from 2007 was it (?), looked a lot meaner. Furthermore I think it would help the car handle even better, if it was running just a little bit wider rims. I'm not an expert though, so correct me if I'm wrong. Other than that great work and congrats on cracking the 10 sec barrier! :)
We can correct you of you like. We have tried larger rims on it, but with the camber settings we have and 265 tyres, they dont fit properly and srcub. We wont use stretched tyres and negative camber to make them fit as it would sacrifice performance. 18x9 is plenty big and the wheels are light weight. Performance comes first.
***** haha its a nice stretch of road, where is it? I meet you at ADGP at calder about a year ago, I was the guy who didn't believe you owned/organised the event :) would be nice to see you there again this year! (might have to BYO chair though :-)
so can you do this with a 5 shift gearbox and adjusted diff? less top speed but more response? i think bnr34 gearbox is too expensief for a budget project.
tinoushgtr Your diff options are limited. 4.3 is hard enough to find, let along anything else tighter. It wouldn't work as well as 6-speed, but would certainly help
how much have you spent all up on it so far ? including the initial cost of the car ? im planning on importing a r32 and maybe building it for track so would love to find out.. from sydney as well so this would give me a good idea ... cheers
Hard to give a realistic price as we get help from our sponsors/partners and do a lot of work ourselves. If you watch back the old issues you can see everything we've done to the car. The car originally came with some good gear on it and we got it cheap at $11,500. It broke the engine and we bought a wreck for $4000, which once we sold stuff off, owed us $2000 and came with lots of fruit. After all the buying and selling we had it running 300KW for under 20K. If you built it same way as us, it would be more like 35-40K, but then again, there a lot of cheap GT-Rs out there with lots of mods on them. Could probably pick up a car with same engine mods for 19-20K, do a few mods and get it running like ours for 25-30K if you're smart about it.
Awesome run. I've just been looking back through the vids, and the latest power i could find you guys running was 388kw. Is that still the same power being made in this video??
+MotiveDVD my fg f6 just ran 10.8 @134 on streets with 395rwkw on 98. The autos make a huge difference in ets. And considering the hundreds of kilo weight difference.
Love the vids. I made the mistake of 2540s on my 26. Have u driven -7s? Im looking for a fun car in the hills. Either -7s or -5s on e85 and 350-375awkw
You could change to 350Z 6-speed box ( similar to R34 ratios) but yes, you need to change diff ratios as S14 and S15 come with 3.7s. You need to put at least a 4.3 diff in it, or even better, a 4.3 diff ratio. It will transform the car.
sorry guys been bizzy after blowing up the skyline at the intersection that tried to take my licence but I got rid of it with no charges and still have my licence so I am happy am going to go back to school and try to do it. properly .
As much as anything is possible it would be incredibly difficult and expensive to do. Very difficult to make it AWD. Wouldn't be a budget supercar anymore!
Anything can be done, but would require removal of transfer case and a lot of custom work and enlarging of tunnel. Also requires adaptor to fit. Instead, fit a Supra Getrag 6-speed gearbox as they are same inside. But, best option is Nissan 350Z 6-Speed Just as strong, cheaper and conversion kits are off the shelf.
As we don't get GTR's here in the states much and we are just now allowed to import 25 year old ones, I'm not well researched. That being said, I have a question about the squat your getting on acceleration: Did you tune in extra rear wheel bias with an ETS controller, or is it just the system heavily favoring that axle? Also my research seems to show that the GTR version of the ATTESA ETS seems to be set up as a mostly RWD, but then occasionally feed power to the front axle for traction. Am I understanding this correctly? Question is mostly directed to OP, but experts feel free to chime in.
If your running high power its advisable to use a ETS controller when launching hard. Stock Atessa will send too much power to the front diff and you will risk blowing it.
Sean Henry I don't have the full ETS controller, just a "trim knob". It doest turn more to the front, bur rather speed up the 4WD, which is a problem with R32. The 4WD is a bit slow to respond. It's an open front diff, so sending more to the front won't blow it,. just create more wheelspin! Just trial and error to get it right. The squat is more suspension set-up than actual 4wd.
I don’t think it exists. Those getrag transmissions are so heavily sought after. I don’t think I’ll be able to buy one for several years at these prices.
+Tiwizzel Greening Confused by what that means? Reaction time only matters if you are actually racing the person next to you. We weren't. It was a test and tune.
Where did you get 12K from? Boxes sell for 4K and clutch is needed either way, so cant compare that. Shaft modified and other bits brings it to 5K and labour to 6K OS gearset might cost $3500 but labour to fit it and they're not much stronger than factory and have even longer terrible ratios. The 6-speed is the best option under 10K, or even under 20K
R33GTR4U No way! They are a terrible piece of equipment. They only change the shift direction, not how quick it is. People who use them ten to try and change quicker, which wrecks synchs and they often miss gears which can cause other damage. Seen it destroy a few cars selecting the wrong gear! True dog-engagement sequential gearbox is the way to go, but not for a street car, especially one on a budget.
Would have loved to see the install process of the getreg 6 speed manual.
Going to be installing one in my R32 .
That close ratio 6 speed gearbox is my favorite part. Makes the experience seem so energetic and fun.
Thank you for the in depth details and information. Great video. Keep them coming
any new vids for the r32 yet
That car is so complicated.. science. Props to the guys who mod these things
Great video, talks a lot of sense at the end of the video 👍

Very interesting build!!! Thumbs up
love the whole build

+Wezkker LIM We did the twin scroll single turbo conversion in another video. Twins vs Single.
the diff ratio/6-speed still makes the biggest difference though
With the conversion can you still disable the awd to do rear wheel drive burnouts
Yes
Definitely thinking of picking a r32 gtr up now that they're legal here in the states
Seems like clutch is being dumped on the launches but it might be just how it appears on the video. Awesome it hit 10s
+tk106 its a fast release but not a dump

where is that road drew? I thought Wollongong national park but it looks to open and flowing for that
I was wondering where did you get the pull to push conversion for the r34 gtr getrag? I was hoping to reuse my spec push clutch in my 32 GTR.
***** So was the only mod the trans & suspension? If so, I'd love to see what some upgraded breather mods & steel turbos can do.
So what rpm roughly were you launching at with the 5 speed and what did you find was the best launch rpm once you went to the 6 speed with and without drag radials on the car ?

ie. Having no preloaded torque to the front driveshaft, so it can be run as a pure RWD for "dyno-tuning" purposes.
+GTR Soul The pre-load is based on the 4WD system, not the transfer case itself, so it behaves same as R32
is it a good idea to change toe arms if you change the upper control/camber arm? about to do suspension work to my S14 and I hear most tyre wear that people say is camber wear, is actually from bad toe angles
+thesamandnath we didn't need toe arms to get adjustment right so we didn't change them

looking forward to stage 2 ;)
arif rifz Stage 2 is up now on our channel
you hoon andy! careful, might be the next top story on A current Afair.
No speedo shown, so wasn't speeding :)

vetter2769 haha, not hard to work out speed reached at the top of third and fourth gear. Especially when you say what speed it's doing at 3krpm :P
How much is that getrag?
Finally!!! a new video
so can you do this with a 5 shift gearbox and adjusted diff? less top speed but more response?

FormulaVeeRacer1200 Our car has high flowed -7s.
We are doing a twins vs single video next

Is a intake headlight like that legal in australia? more specifically Adelaide?
RemoteChicken12 no it's not legal
Low mount v high mount?

very cool
This might be a stupid thing to say, but would you ever consider putting a vr38 in it, or are you sticking with the rb26?
As much as anything is possible it would be incredibly difficult and expensive to do. Very difficult to make it AWD. Wouldn't be a budget supercar anymore!
is this the same gearbox the supra uses or it is different but same setup or concept
Actual gears inside are very similar, yes
Hi andrew gust asking if a gtr 6speed gerbox fit on a s14 s2 Silvia
Anything can be done, but would require removal of transfer case and a lot of custom work and enlarging of tunnel. Also requires adaptor to fit.
Instead, fit a Supra Getrag 6-speed gearbox as they are same inside.
But, best option is Nissan 350Z 6-Speed
Just as strong, cheaper and conversion kits are off the shelf.
***** thanks andrew love the show and your GTR r32 and your time attack monster s14
Is this running an electronic speedo ?
No, the R32 cable speedo bolted straight into the transfer case. It measure output shaft speed pre-diff, so it reads correctly too.
i am wondering what 6 speed gearbox did you switch to thanks andy

My bad, but you do run the risk of snaping your front prop shaft. Its a known risk when running stock attessa and high power.
***** Double thanks.
Budget hypercar next?
Ben salter That might be stage 3.
Does anyone know where I can find this conversion for a reasonable price? Everything I see is $8k+ just for parts.
I don’t think it exists. Those getrag transmissions are so heavily sought after. I don’t think I’ll be able to buy one for several years at these prices.
seems like MCM Super Gramps got a rival
Watch the next video in the series. You'll see their not rivals anymore :)
+MotiveDVD smoked perhaps
is the r34,s transmission is better or the toyota supra
+Mubarak Ahmad pretty much the same gearset.
Do a budget build on Subaru WRX !
+Chris Maljanovski We are starting one this month!
your reaction time need a close gear ratio for better response lol
+Tiwizzel Greening Confused by what that means? Reaction time only matters if you are actually racing the person next to you. We weren't. It was a test and tune.

build a sti dw about nissans anymore ;)
Weve got another feature on our WRX coming out soon.
cant wait
