Finally somebody who applies non-mammalian sexual dimorphism to non-mammalian mythical creatures. Edit: yeah OK not all species of bird/lizard have the females be bigger than males. I guess I'd go off the example of large bird-of-prey species. Still tired of seeing the overused "males are bigger and more badass than females" thing on mythical creatures that don't have to apply to this, despite being modelled after mammals or birds.
@@gorgoaku4444 I disagree, it was wise that they have used a combination of both. Avian sexual dimorphism varies depending on the category of bird. For example, with birds of prey the females are most commonly the larger of the species. This is often due to the strength and intimidation they need to defend their young. For both mammals and birds alike, the females body is more practical while the males are built solely for mating. Animals such as the peacock is a great example of this. You could apply the same evolutionary theory to lizards, for most reptile species the females may not be larger than males, however their bodys are still more practical, often being dull in colour compared to males to better hide their eggs though it isn't nearly as clear as avian sexual dimorphism the concept still carries across. The creator has likely combined both lizard and avian sexual dimorphism to get the most realistic and practical examples for nightfury's as of course lizards don't have the ability to fly, this would completely alter the direction of evolution compared to normal lizards. Sorely basing a nightfury's sexual dimorphism from lizards would be innacurate. In the second movie, Toothless is 20 and his plasma blasts are now able to destroy seastacks. When supercharged by the Alpha display, they actually blowed off the Bewilderbeast's left tusks. If you can’t answer that it’s alright just curious! Anyways have a good day! ^^
Maybe they made the female smaller because dragons are reptile-like, and with lizards (Which dragons seem closest to) males are often larger than the females. This isn't Disney being sexist, it's Disney being accurate.
Me throughout the whole thing: *GOD DAMN HOE MANY EAR NUBS DO THESE GUYS HAVE!!?* Me after watching: My favorite part of the design is how many ear nubs they get.
Baby: Chunky, wobbly, tiny ear nubs. Teen: Lanky, flies well, ear nubs grow longer. Adult: muscular, precise flier and deadly accurate with plasma blasts...ear nubs grow longer. Elder: capable of blasting entire islands asunder, vaporizing the greatest lakes, and flying across the world in mere hours... ...*ear nubs grow longer.*
I actually think the female night furies are smaller but faster and the males are stronger but slower than the females but slower, I imagine this cause they mate for life so I feel like if they were ever attacked the females would be fast enough to bring their kids somewhere safe while the male holds them back and then she can join the fight
meh, lets take predatory birds, males are smaller and generally take home the prey to feed everyone, females are the big bulky ones able to defend their own young incase any trouble would occur, you get me?
I'm just wondering which of these stages would be the Titan Wing. Would it start at the Mature stage, or later on? The extra and growing head nubs are a little strange, but when you've seen the same Night Fury (albeit with minor changes) your whole life, seeing something different is going to be seen as such
I would've thought that the male nightfuries are usually bigger because night furies mate for life, so the male mate would be able to hunt and protect the female and their eggs. And since the lightfury is a similar to the nightfury, we would think male lightfuries are bigger, which I would think they would be, and I believe they showed it in the movie just pay close attention but that just depends on the lightfury.
It's always weird that people make the female dragons bigger and tougher when lizards are often the opposite, males tend to be be bigger and tougher while females are smaller. Reptiles as a whole I believe do have more larger females in sexual dimorphism, but specifically *lizards* have more large males in their sexual dimorphism.

If you can’t answer that it’s alright just curious! Anyways have a good day! ^^
A show about dragons, of course, doesn't have biologically accurate dragons. Because there is no such thing! it's just character design
@@corvusmonedula yup, same here..
You mean like black bears and poler bears?
Maybe they made the female smaller because dragons are reptile-like, and with lizards (Which dragons seem closest to) males are often larger than the females. This isn't Disney being sexist, it's Disney being accurate.
@@Idk-sx3ym Disney didn't make httyd, DreamWorks did
The elder is definitely the beginning or middle of the titan wing stage! Love this
IMAGINE AN ANCIENT NIGHTFURY FIGHTING THE RED DEATH
I made a baby toothless drawing and it was very detailed
Me throughout the whole thing: *GOD DAMN HOE MANY EAR NUBS DO THESE GUYS HAVE!!?*
Me after watching: My favorite part of the design is how many ear nubs they get.
Meanwhile me throughout the whole thing:
*HOW CAN A REPTILE HAVE VISIBLE, CLEAR, MAMMALIAN EARS?!*
Me after watching the video: y they have more ear nubs than I do personality traits?
Can you get those people to make another dragon, like a triple stryke or a deathgripper, those are my favorite dragons
Omg yes the triple stryke is my favorite!
I absolutely adore the Deathgrippers!
Ooh red death life cycle
3 words, I love it, no more words are needed
*kfc add song comes on: I DONT CARE, I LOVEIT!’* 😂
Baby: Chunky, wobbly, tiny ear nubs.
Teen: Lanky, flies well, ear nubs grow longer.
Adult: muscular, precise flier and deadly accurate with plasma blasts...ear nubs grow longer.
Elder: capable of blasting entire islands asunder, vaporizing the greatest lakes, and flying across the world in mere hours...
...*ear nubs grow longer.*
Elder is cap, it's much weaker as it grows. Maybe not the plasma blasts tho.
The states look so beautiful and I want to be a night fury even more now
I actually think the female night furies are smaller but faster and the males are stronger but slower than the females but slower, I imagine this cause they mate for life so I feel like if they were ever attacked the females would be fast enough to bring their kids somewhere safe while the male holds them back and then she can join the fight
meh, lets take predatory birds, males are smaller and generally take home the prey to feed everyone, females are the big bulky ones able to defend their own young incase any trouble would occur, you get me?
ok that don’t make sense because there are no night fury females and the light fury is the closest to a night fury female
@@GWR82I think they meant it in a hypothetical situation.
@@GWR82 Ok that is not true as how could toothless have been born a night fury if there were no night fury females?
@@jevarga2151idk biology
This makes so much more sense than what we were given in plot
Vey cool! Now I want to make my own story using the life stages
Tyy :D
0:16 that’s so cute
imagine meeting an ancient night fury. just accept your fate.
* hides under its foot*
Grimmel: I'ma gonna end this ancient's whole career.
Imagine what toothless would have looked like as an elder and an ancient
The drawings were exquisite❤❤❤ i love how you made hiccup next to him for size 😊❤
I'm just wondering which of these stages would be the Titan Wing. Would it start at the Mature stage, or later on?
The extra and growing head nubs are a little strange, but when you've seen the same Night Fury (albeit with minor changes) your whole life, seeing something different is going to be seen as such
I think only after the mature age
i think its around the mature-ancient stage, depending on the individual!
Omg the ancient night fury is just soo amazing design wowee 🔥🔥
I would've thought that the male nightfuries are usually bigger because night furies mate for life, so the male mate would be able to hunt and protect the female and their eggs. And since the lightfury is a similar to the nightfury, we would think male lightfuries are bigger, which I would think they would be, and I believe they showed it in the movie just pay close attention but that just depends on the lightfury.
Hiccup: “This is fine…”
Nobody:
Hiccup the entire video:
🧍
THIS IS ABSOLUTELY F AN T A S T IC THANK YOU I LOVE ITTTTT
I'd like a speculative zoology series about httyd
but even better!! XD
Holy hooooooooot it just keeps getting better and better damn. the ancient looks badass as fuck you got talent for drawing.
If my magic oc where a fury it would be the elder with 153 years ( the age of my magic oc is the number of my months )
Basically baby night fury: chonker. Elder/Ancient: *"yall dont fuck with me, im tired of yalls shit."*
Because its more fun to draw
Snakes tend to lean the opposite way
@@SpookyYetPolite Don't argue with the ppl they want a small female dragon they can have it. Ppl want a [dainty] girl with [big eyelashes] and literal [dragon breasts]
Amazing toothless I was so excited for the drawings they are amazing
Jesus +200 night furies are like huuuuuge. I would die for them grampas.
ANCIENT NIGHT FURY WAS SO COOL WTH OMG I LOVE IT UR SO TALENTED!! ❤❤
Hiccup there just being immortal
POV:Your Night Fury OC Is A 20 Years Older Than Toothless,Yet Is The Size Of An Ancient Night Fury-
Didn't know they could get that big 💀
DUDE THAT ANCHIENT ONE IS INSANE!!!!
This Is very useful! But now i have a question, can you make a the same video but with light furies?
Respect for toothless for getting a wife and kids while his still adolescent
There was some sort of how to train your dragon's rehash that was done poorly, I think. If old Toothless was in it, I would be happy.
Light fury: honey why are you big🧓
Toothless: I don't know👴
this video is STRAIGHT out of 2008
It’s only cooler because there were even concepts for ages a Nightfury might not even live to
Also thanks for the huge nostalgia with the song. I have not heard that since getting into the franchise and watching everyone’s AMV’s
Bro ancient is cool
After teen is sooo cool bro-
I love how Hiccup Just looks at the screen non without aging emotionlessly Staring for the whole video 😂
it's sad cause they removed Toothless's markings at 21-30, so this wouldn't be right, but I think I've seen a VERY faint markings or two on older toothless, unless that's just a scar or dust
Actually he still has them:) trust me I did a LOT of picture inspecting and research
I will not lie, I actually like this age adaptation for the Night Fury species. Besides, the older they get, the more badass they look.
I’m pretty sure that a elder night fury is just a titan wing class
No, wouldn’t that be ancient? Because it’s the highest and strongest (probably) age/ state of the night fury
Ancient guarding a egg be like:
Ancient: oops I stepped on something, ow my scales and wings, what did I dooooo?
1:10 holy moly that’s big
imagine humans cornering a flock night furries and somehow get the upper hand and then an ancient shows up
no way night furies can live up to 200 years
More like 180
Then again this is a video just on ideas of what they would look like
I think (as you said), they can't last 200 years... Buuut, it maybe dragons can have more than 300 😮
It did say that only a few nightfurys ever live past 100 in the video, so the elders and ancients may be extremely rare to find
I’ve never really been into HtTYD, but this is rad as heck
Not true hiccup and toothless are the same age and there is a scene that shows hiccup sees toothless and he’s 31 years old and he’s still the same 1:32
Pretty awesome artwork and knowledge thank you!
For Many reptiles the females are larger. So i think itd make more sense for a female night fury to be larger im not to sure about size with axolotls tho (night furys were inspired by them as well)
@@Lolamy i believe night furies are more personality of a cat rather than have the same dymorphism than them, toothless was confirmed a "usless reptile" so i feel it would make more sense to have them have reptile dymorphism with some axolotl mixed in
Nah I see night-furies taking more from salt-water crocs with the males being much larger than the females. Not to mention them being literal mythical creatures.
Even when he ages over 300+ years. He still acts like a baby kitten like 80% of the time
Awwwwwwwww my toothy so cute looking
It's perfect.. No, no.... it's simple.. I CAN'T DESCRIBE IT! EVERYTHING IS SO BEAUTIFULLY DRAWN, THOUGHT OUT, RESPECT FOR SUCH WORK!!!
Do more videos like dis
It would have been cool if anybody made every single life stage of the night fury but in 3D it would have been so cool
I wish this was real😭😭😭
Thanks just found a blackdragon outside my house, this helped so much
tbh tootless gonna get big very big like big as like berwilderbeast or red death cuz isnt tootles a titan they can grow big like that giant berwilderbeast skeleton is giant
Toothless is not a titan.
@@STARTHEWINGEDWOLF not yet at least, or can Toothless ever become a titan?
@@audzollma1352 I doubt it, i'm pretty sure that you have to be born as a titan dragon to be a titan, toothless is probably just a normal nightfury, if he was a titan, his description would basically be a overpowered oc's description lol. (I don't hate overpowered ocs.)
@@STARTHEWINGEDWOLF well *if* becomes titan hes gonna be having one weird tail fin
@@inferno0395 lol yep
god a ancient night fury would be horrifying
Imagine that MASSIVE spiked beast going at the speed of sound
An ancient night fury couldnt fly too fast they fly around 50 mph Because their wings are tearing apart and their sprint is slow they run around 20 mph (ik that its a imagination)
soo cool i love the drangon design. woahh
Is this canon or a fan's interpretation of a nightfury? :DD
headcanons!

@@NoahMoorman so what’s that supposed to mean?
@@NoahMoorman actually ruclips.net/video/hdMV61NmFSU/видео.html
The ancient one🥰I also subscribed because I love dragons
I dont think it would have kept growing more ear nubs. Animals bodies don't tend to grow things if it doesn't need it. All those nubs would make it less aerodynamic.
I would love to see at least a night fury in a show that’s absolutely giant and it makes a badass entrance in some show so sad that the last movie is already released so I’m praying that we get another one
Adult isn't accurate, and neither are the rest of the stages that happen after adult. At the end of the hidden world, hiccup is around 30-35, Toothless is the same age as hiccup, or very close to it, valka said that. There isn't any changes that happen to toothless when he's 30-35, so the longer growing of the ear nubs (on top of the head, not talking about the jaw ones because I think that's how Valka saw how old he was) after young adult doesn't really happen. Dominance display is not something that night furies get with age, Toothless had to fight and defeat an alpha to get the Dominance display.
Yeah that's all I have to say, sorry I'm a bit of a "get it right" person and I correct people a lot.
This is concept art. Get over it.
@@guacamollie2460 what? Sorry im a bit of a know it all. Get over my comment
@@guacamollie2460 im simply just stating some facts.
@@STARTHEWINGEDWOLF I agree with most of your statements, but i'd assume with age they'd get scale cracking and wing tears. The discoloring of the scales i can also understand because older animals don't look as colorful/ vibrant as the younger ones. I also have to say that guaca is right in that this is more concept art rather then cannon art, so don't get mean with how this guy wants to draw Nightfuries. It's neither yours or my art, so we don't get to tell them how to draw.
@@hollowwonderstone5084 Yeah im not judging how they draw, I think the art is cool. I agree with you.
