I may or may not be debating writing a short story about that, actually. I'm trying to take up some fanfiction writing for HTTYD. Not sure if many would be interested.
I LOVE how when she sniffs at his man-made tail fin, she looks confused, judgy, and disapproves of it. Then she flies away and has her head tilted in a "I'm better than you" pompous, elegant way. When Toothless still acts in his usual dumb cheery playful self, THATS how he wins her over! And she actually likes it! You can see how despite him being "weird" she's charmed by him! She acts like a noble rich person's cat while he's a goofy stray that got a loving home. I LOVE how this storyboard/animatic gave her more personality. She tries to act all high and sophisticated but that breaks down when he encourages her more goofy side! Then they play together! It's so insanely cute and it makes their relationship feel so much more genuine and real, rather than the plot forcing them to like each other "just cuz".
@@bambimonstahh bro that’s like someone looking at my prosthetic arm and being stuck up saying that I’m better then you for having both of my arms wtf no wonder they took this part out of the movie
@@bambimonstahh i totally disagree they gave her a bad personality still in the storyboard. And this isn’t just blind hating on the light fury but looking at it unbiasedly
I have decided to gaslight myself into thinking this was actually in the movie and the lightfury isn't just a glittery mass with a single trait called FEMALE
Don't get me wrong, I love her too! It's just the fact she has barely any personality except for the fact she's toothlesses mate and doesn't like humans @@TheEnvisFury
It's so sad that the movie really went "This character is fierce, brave, smart, playful, a bit goofy, curious, gentle, sympathetic... and this one is a girl!"
@@EmilijaDunja So I'll explain it like this, your character can be a girl or they can just be a girl. A well written women like any character has character traits you can point out and remember, a "girl" character has 1 trait, they are woman and that is the character. The "girl" character is often used for love interests to the more fleshed out male lead in movies.
@@EmilijaDunja Nothing, but it's bad when that's all there is. What kind of girl is she? If she can be replaced by a cardboard cutout that's not a good character. And what she did was just sit there and look pretty for most of the movie, an object for Toothless to lust over (the only moment of her own agency was her deciding to save Hiccup, but that's only at the very end). That's the sadness of this deleted scene that shows more of Light Fury's personality - she's playful, talented flier, a bit curious, forgiving and not taking herself too seriously (not being angry at all after being accidentally slapped by Toothless wing), just in general shows more bonding between the two when she reciprocates his advances in all these subtle ways (not pushing him away anymore).
Yeah the entire movie it felt like the Light Fury was "just tolerating" Toothless. A thorough scene like this would've added some dimension to their relationship
For someone who thought how Toothless just dropped hiccup so quickly. This small but cute scene would have really shown the chemistry that the two had and it would have gave the girl more character. They really had such a missed opportunity for the last movie.
I think the main reason I disliked the light fury when i first watched the movie is because it felt like she was “stealing” Toothless away from Hiccup.
I feel like the conversation regarding this scene went a little like: “And she has personality, they interact with each other in a way that helps to understand the light fury’s character more, she seems stuck up, but she’s really playful and goofy on the inside.” “Nah let’s make her only personality trait ‘FEMALE’ 😍”
3D models have limitations due to how the model can warp. Their getting better, post 2018 DreamWork movies have a better render engine and model set which allows for much more expression then the pre-2018 films. Trolls World Tour had this engine used on it, which is why it was more technically advanced over Trolls and its the best example right now.
Why would they take that out? They're properly courting like an animal would! They size each other up, show off skills, and play. She sees he's a good match for her and then shows she's receptive towards him. I would've loved to see this animated, It's far better than a silly little mating dance.
It would be better if they cut out all those stupid and uncomfortable jokes and moments about Hiccup's friend's crush into Hiccup's mom and left this scene
Idk if it wouldve saved her character, but they should have still kept this because it makes their relationship more expanded on. It's adorable to see the ways they interact and flirt, idk why they didnt use it
there are a few singular moments that i think we really needed. the light furry was always very prim and snooty, and toothless was always enamored with her. but we never got to see the light furry fall for toothless
I freaking love the idea of the Light Fury. But my issue with her (and this entire movie lol) is that her entire purpose is to separate Hiccup and Toothless. They had such a tight bond -- they were literally meant for each other, and that was emphasized throughout the entire story for years -- and then they just rip them apart because "hey, humans are now stupid and can't learn how to work with dragons." I would have loved this movie, even a separation between Hiccup and Toothless, but their reasoning for the whole plot just wasn't good enough imo for all of their friendship to just be thrown away like that. And tbh the Light Fury deserves better than to just be a plot device. She deserves to be her own character.
Well.... man you people and everyone who don't like the lighfury are harsh like, try making ur own movie see how hard it is, some respect for these pour creaitos. HAVE RESPECT
@@LulaRoo-x7b I like the movie, but I also understood their review. If you want a good income you gotta produce a good movie that people have high expectations for.
i love that the last part of the scene where they interlock feet and spiral downwards mimics the mating ritual of bald eagles, who interlock talons and spiral downwards towards the ground from a high height, basically a game of chicken to see if a potential mate is worthy
They deleted ALL the good scenes and I'm mad about it. This woulf have been awersome, especially since we don't have a flight scene with Hiccup in this movie for some reason (unlike the other 2), this could have been an acceptable replacement.
In the final version she feels so robotic, like every interaction with Toothless is to test him to see if he’s “fit” kinda like birds and animals in the wild. I mean... makes sense ofc, theyre animals, but with the lengths they’ve gone thru to humanize Toothless with his demeanor, the light fury really could have used some of the same treatment and this deleted scene represents that so well. She just wasn’t likable enough in the film to warrant breaking up one of the most iconic, special duos in animated film history!
But she lived wild amongst dragons and toothless was more humanised being around the village. So it makes sense she had less of a personality and more of an 'animal instinct'
@@tsundereyoongieven if that makes sense in universe it doesnt really make her a more likable character. the irl reason toothless behaves like he does is because hes a central character so he does have to emote more for the audience to sympathize/relate with him. if they wanted to have people to be nearly as attached to the light fury as they are with toothless they should have given her more moments in the story to showcase that she has a unique personality other than “doesnt like humans” and “is interested in toothless”
this wouldve made the connection to each other be more felt by the audience, we werent shown any bonding between them and they just kinda tossed the relationship at us
For me, the light fury didn’t feel like a real breathing character. They just felt like an obstacle to teach toothless about their abilities and lessons. And that sucks! I want to like this character, tell they feel something. And I know this scene wouldn’t it do a lot of justice, but MAN is it all that I need, please she feels like a card-board cut out-
The only reason I think people didn't like the Light Fury was because Toothless suddenly wanted to leave with her. Like, after the years of being so loyal to Hiccup, he was ready to leave in a min for her. If they had shown a bit more connection like in this. And hi trying to maybe integrate her with *his* life first. Then Hiccup seeing she wasn't going to be comfortable or happy, and the threat they were under, that is when he tells Toothless to go and it's ok. Her character itself is fine, it's how they introduced her and didn't show this playful side of her, is what ruined her.
Agreed. I haven't seen the movie in a while and don't remember how it exactly went down, but I felt like both Hiccup and Toothless were too ready to leave each other.
The biting the tail/spinning thing was so cute!! They really should've kept that, it would've been much more interesting for them to explore their relationship as feral and tamed animals than for them to do the typical male vs female characterization they always do. LF being curious of Toothless' prosthetic is not only adorable, but realistic!
Honestly my problem with her is that her introduction was so fast and sudden, and there was no build up to her, they could have made another movie of in which grimmel could have hinted at her apearance in a new movie toward the end, maybe even hiding her shadow in a scene, but it seems like dreamworks just wanted to get the triology over with, i mean look at nine realms, it looks like to me that they just gave up but wanted a good ending
i absolutely hate that this was deleted. i hated the light fury she had no personality and was clearly just the hot untamed girl dragon, this would have changed everything and made her so real. what a shame corporate greed said no
This bonding scene would have been beautiful! The contrast between Hiccup and Toothless, were Toothless bonded with Hiccup by imitating a drawing which could be seen as an animal trying to have human aspects! And then this one, where Toothless is reconnecting with his animal side/dragon's instincts by doing silly things with the Lightfury
I don't think it would have made her more of a character necessarily, but it would have definitely done so much more than what we got. Here, she at least seems to have more of a personality and this 5 minutes gives us more insight into their bonding and what her personality is actually like, since it was quite rushed in the movie. This would have been so much more than what we got.
I found an in-universe explanation they could have used. The lightfuries are primarily water hunters but (insert reason for fast flying capability). The missing scales and rounder features to reduce drag and vortexes (the thing planes create at their wingtips that costs efficiency) underwater, the sparkly skin because it attracts fish. Something like that. (Still would've liked another nightfury better tho)
I agree, I myself made a few lightfury ocs with a few small tweeks, like I gave them colorful scales(usaully pastels) explaining it with it helps them both blend in underwater with coral and that it help attract mates, gave them sharper teeth used for catching slippery fish underwater, for me the lightfuries design felt bland and uncreative, I love sparkles and girly stuff just as much as the next girl, but sometimes you gotta draw the line with eye candy and a good character
this should have definitely have been in the movie, this scene just shows more of the bond between them instead of them just being instantly in love because its a male and female. It also gives the light fury some actual personality other than just being a wild dragon that doesnt trust humans and only acts as a love interest for toothless
this is what hhtyd was always meant to be, cute dragons flying around with beautiful scenery and meaningful character building pretty much every important scene in the first movie, where characters really developed, or relationships were explored more, was in the sky hiccup and toothless only really got each other after they flew together, same with hiccup and astrid, and every other character with their dragons; it’s like, the whole point
I honestly don't think it would, they should have added more bonding moments yes but more spread out imo. This character showed 0 unique traits other than "oh, new dragon with new behavioral and biological traits" I didn't see anything unique to her compared to Toothless! She didn't seem to have anything she cared for or any sort of personality, even if you eatch the movie on its own you can tell what these two are, Toothless is bubbly charismatic and shows clear personal "goals" he wants to achieve while her is just the cute-sy supportive character who has nothing going for her but this plotline. The movie had plenty issues in general but that part just rubs me the wrong way a ton
I like this because she is the one who initiates the intertwined free fall which real birds of prey do in courtship. Shows that she really did like him instead of only playing hard to get.
Don't think it would have saved her character, but it would definitely have improved it significantly and would make the relationship seem more genuine because, as is, she comes off as manipulative.
@@BBMacsWorldin the short holiday film she pretended to get upset because toothless drew hiccup and she went off to sulk to get toothless to fuss over her instead. After he tried to comfort her, you can see her reaction and that she was never upset just manipulating him to make herself the center of toothless’s attention and focus all of his affection on her
this would have given more insight to the light fury that I would have loveddd its like an extrovert and introvert and gives more to her than ohh la la captured edgy light fury. It shows why they are so compatible, they both have that playful nature to them but toothless is way more outgoing with it
I've never been a huge fan of light fury, but I dont exactly hate her. Personally, I think this is in line with what was previously established of her, and wouldn't have actually added much to the movie. Her "character" was not the problem I had with the movie anyway. More her mechanical reason for being in the story.
HTTYD 2 feels more like the 3rd movie because it showed more of that "hidden world / sanctuary" inside a massive ice spire, but the actual 3rd movie felt rushed i couldn't even remember what the nightfury's place looked like, and the vikings leaving their homeland made the story ending incomplete instead 😭
The grabbing each others tails reminds me of bald eagle’s courtship dance where they lock talons and drop from the sky only to break away at the last minute
I feel like the big problem with the Light Fury isn't even necessarily how little personality she has, but just the sheer lack of screentime she gets. She's in the film for what, 10, 15 minutes? No matter how much personality she was given in those scenes, it cannot compensate for simple lack of time. She could be an incredibly endearing and charismatic character with an interesting and meaningful relationship with Toothless, and it still wouldn't really work because a relationship with 15 minutes of screentime is never going to feel more important than one with more than ten times as much screentime that we've been following almost a decade. What this film really needed was to drop scenes and subplots to give more time to not just the Light Fury as a character, but her relationship with Toothless.
Yeah that's my main ick for her. And how Toothless just seems to ditch Hiccup, for her. Even when she nearly kills him like twice where in the past movies he was insanely protective of him. Just felt like everything they went through was for nothing :/
@@T_E_G It's like they made him prioritize a potential romantic relationship over a platonic one (which I think is a bad message) he could have at the very LEAST been angry, but no, he's still puppy dog mode. This is supposed to be the same toothless that fought an ALPHA for his best friend of SIX years and in response to a woman he knew for a minute for trying to kill his best friend he just nervously smiled at her. I just wish she was more expanded on, and Toothless felt more emotions toward her than head over heels.
I will never understand why they removed this. She has such a fun and quirky personality! Hell, SHE HAS A PERSONALITY! Everything here is so cute and I feel like msot people would've liked to see this in the movie
This whole sequence is so cute, not sure it would’ve saved the movie but I would’ve cared about the chemistry with Toothless and The Lightfury a little more. This reminds me of Spirit and Rain in a way.
SO YOURE TELLING ME WE COULDVE GOTTEN FIRST FLIGHT TOOTHLESS AND HIS GF EDITION AND THEY DELETED IT???? WHOS IDEA WAS TO DELETE THIS?!?! WHO HAS SINGLE HANDEDLY RIPPED AWAY A PIECE OF ABSOLUTE GOLD RIGHT FROM THE HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON FRANCHISE. im. So fucking mad about this is. This is the worst thing to happen to HTTYD right after the 9 realms
I think the film makers decided to delete this scene because of how long it'll take to animate the cloud moving thanks to the wing flaps and all, but that's just my opinion, either way this scene is beautiful, gives the Light Fury a much better character than just being as a mate to Toothless
still tho it would had added more personality to luna(the light fury) while also showing people going on dates and something doesnt go to plan its ok even if its embarrassing i love luna truly i do but people are right that we didnt see really much personality every screentime she got as well she behaved the same way really this scene added to personality what kind of female she is not just toothless lover or the scared light fury
i've seen no one else point this out but at 4:47 they probably based that scene off of what eagles do as a courtship ritual, bald eagles lock talons with their mate in flight and spiral down towards the ground! they also sometimes do this when fighting over territory, sometimes never letting go and falling to their deaths but that part is not as important. just a small fun fact!
I think it wouldn't have saved the character, but would have shown in more detail why they love each other. Their movements in the dance, the touching of their wings, the communication without words. That should have been added to the movie about dragons! I like the movie, but I need more dragons!)))
i still fully believe that the movie would have just been so much better if the lightfury had been a female night fury. she could still serve the same purpose but it would make more sense that his actual species could help toothless figure out how to turn invisible instead of a sub species
There were so many ways they could have done this movie well. It’s such a disappointment to see the way it turned out. It’s also INFURIATING bc I fucking LOVE the light fury’s design but it’s insufferable bc she was just designed to be a “female dragon”
I know the message of this movie was supposed to be “make the world a good enough place for dragons” but Toothless abandoning his half-a-decade long friendship with Hiccup for a girl dragon he’s known for a day and half made me think dragons didn’t deserve Berk , not the other way around.
It's not that much the mate but more the fact that it has become dangerous for dragons to live outside, in two years they fought Drago and Grimmel, both tried to use dragons as weapons to become more powerful. It's also very clear in the third movie that toothless is almost like a dog and not like a friend anymore, he plays fetch with his prostetic leg and acts more human than before. Berk is pretty much the only good place for dragons and it's a good thing that they go live in the hidden world, even if it's frustrating to see them separating.
I can feel you but i believe Toothless didn’t just give up five years of friendship for a girl. Berk is a utopia and hiccup don’t know if Berk will still be friendly with dragons. They don’t know how the dragon hunters will harm a dragon or attack this island. Human research on dragons has become too deep and it may be dangerous. That dragons might become pets, slaves, or even food to throw can only leave his kind to withdraw from the cruel history of humans.
Personally it would've made more sense for Toothless to leave because the Dragon's were viewing him as Alpha, and he needed to take responsibility for that position. and Unfortunatly with Hiccup that wasn't possible. The Hidden World is not a place for people- but instead they made it all about the Light Fury, which is infuriating and feels disingenious to the build up across both the 1st and 2nd movies. Linking everything to "go, be with her" at the end of the movie is just tiring imo.
I think one of the reasons so many people dislike the light fury is that it feels like she’s taking Toothless not only from Hiccup, but from us, without any justification. Like, we got three movies to see why Astrid and Hiccup are perfect for each other, but not even one scene to show why the light fury and Toothless are even semi-good together. It kinda feels like, “why is this generic, flavorless dragon taking away my favorite character of so many years”. (There’s nothing that makes her special from any other light fury in the Hidden World, so why should we as viewers care about her any more than any of them?) If this had been in the movie, she definitely would have felt less generic and more well liked!
Hear me out. Everyone is confused as to why this was cut as if it didn't fit into the movie due to it being to much work/time. But having spent a lot of time thinking about THW and the light fury I think this had nothing to do with time and everything to do with intentionally removing this scene because it didn't match how they wanted to portray the light fury (God, I hate having to say "light fury" over and over again, screw them for not giving her a name!) So when looking at her in the movie she always carries herself with grace, she's always poised and she barely shows strong emotions (except for anger maybe). Overall she is kind of aloof and she reminds me of a noblewoman in medieval time whoose job was to look pretty, sit still and not show many emotions. The light fury was intentionally not allowed to show raw joy or be goofy or carefree. Every single one of her movements had to be controlled and elegant. That's why I think this scene was cut. That's also why many people don't like her character, there just isn't too much to like, you don't feel with her or relate to her because she just seems distant, unemotional and cold. I just really dislike the whole movie's portrayals of female characters but the light fury is definitely the worst as she was wronged the most by the writer and director (and don't even get me started on her design because I could rant all day about how it doesn't make sense and was so painfully obviously made to be ""GURRLLL" and nothing else)
That, and all her hatred for the in-laws. Yes, she clearly has human-trauma from her time in captivity, but there's NO WAY she could not smell Hiccup all over Toothless, and visa-versa. She should have known in about half a second: no pain-smell, no fear-smell...bonded? That was his brother by another mother, and frankly, when anyone you're dating treats your loved ones like that hoity-toity little glitter-marshmallow did, it's a definite mood-murderer. _That_ is not the kind of gal/guy you bring home to meet the fam!
@@alexisgrunden1556true, especially that we've seen Hiccup calm down and bond with dragons who were hurt by humans before, even worse than LF, he's natural at that. And Toothless not doing a thing to tell her she's wrong just because she's the only dragon he could love? Toxic to me.
@@xiesie_xiesie You are most welcome! 😂 And yeah; dude even managed to calm down a raging Skrill and forge a temporary truce with the Screaming Death, FFS! Lil Miss Sparklebutt should have been cooing and purring within a half an hour, tops! And I agree; Furies are fast, agile and highly intelligent, and however good a hunter he might be, Grimmel the Grisly is just one man. There's literally *_no phsyical way_* he could have scoured and searched every last nook and cranny in the world to eradicate ALL of the Furies, in all of their species/sub-species. It's literally not possible. So there HAVE to be more of them out there! Toothless, darling, sweetheart...it's time for a divorce. Ditch the b*tch, and get your human to bring the fam. It's time to go on another adventure, and you _know_ Your Human will happily help you in this!
The scene was probably cut for pacing reasons, but it really shouldn't have been. Watching these two orcas of the sky in a full courtship flight would have really brought some magic back to a movie that was sorely lacking in it.
@@TheEnvisFuryThink about it: They're extremely smart, on the edge of full sapience while still being animals They're very social. Toothless was TERRIFIED when he was first shot down and given a chance to fly on his own, flatly rejected it. They're apex predators even though they aren't the largest dragons by far. Their aerial courtship massively reminds one of cetacean courtship, just faster because air over water. They can be temperamental and deadly effective in defending themselves, but do not attack humans without cause. They really did remind me of orcas in a lot of ways.
@@TheEnvisFury Awkwardly worded, I do admit. But what would you call something like that? Orcas, iRL, are a real edge case (as are Sperm Whales). So is Toothless. He acts instinctively some of the time as animals do, but he also has many of the hallmarks of human-level abstract reasoning. Being "an animal" isn't a bad thing - we all are - but I guess it comes down to how much ROM vs. RAM a critter has. How much is preprogrammed instinct, and how much is learned behavior? We're still researching that with orcas, but they have features no other animal on the planet save us have, like culture. In Toothless' case, that question was handled with a whole lot more grace and complexity than with most critters in animated fiction, and that's what drew me to the series in the first place.
@@ArchTeryx00 Orcas and corvids are definitely the best examples, I just dislike the way animals get cast aside because, as you said, we're all animals. I never meant to argue your point about the intelligence and other aspects of orcas, just yeah, wording is everything online as there is no "tone of text" lol
this wouldve saved her character (if we can even call it that) so weelll!! shes playfull, witty and a girl that knows what she wants in a man. when she denied to hold his wing and later on did, seeing how toothless could become invisible, my heeaarrtttt!! NOT TO MENTION THE FALLING PART!!! oh my god thats amazing, it resembles the courtship baldeagles perform to find the best mate. its like a challenge, they hook tallons and plunge down from great heights. the later the mate frees themselves to save their skin, the better the relationship or something like that
I don’t think it would have “saved” her but it would have made here soooo soooo much better than she was left and gave her more personality and character that the really flat “female love interest” than we got. Another thing the would have helped save he was her ORIGINAL DESIGN!! I love her original design so much but what we got is so so flat and why is it covered in glitter??? They could have harnessed fire but the only got ashes of what could have been great!
Oooooh this would've added so muuuuuch. It makes the lightfury feel like she has an actual personality, that she's an individual. And it makes you feel like she really can make Toothless happy. Plus it just is much more convincing in showing that she's warming up to him and starting to really like him. :')
The bit with them spinning in circles while holding each other's tails and then later sort of repeating that but holding each others legs was honestly really cute. It reminds me of how some birds of prey will lock talons with each other in flight and just dive and spin around doing so during courtship. Between this and the dances they gave Toothless in the final film, I get the vibe they did a lot of research when working into this movie. Shame this scene was cut. It would have been so nice if it was kept in.
Right at the end when they lock feet and spiral down I think this is probably a reference to the “death spiral” eagles do when they find a mate… I wish they kept that and the rest of the scene in 😭😭😭
I'm still mad that they didn't even give her a NAME. The writers were like "Oh she doesn't have a name to emphasise how much of a wild untamed creature she is" Screw you, we could have gotten Toothless and Gummy, not Toothless and nameless Light Fury.
She doesn't have a name because she doesn't have a rider. It makes perfect sense not to humanize her that way, because she literally is the dragon that Toothless left Hiccup to become.
@@reachinghigher4259I don’t know if I would say it would “humanize” her, but I agree that giving her a name would essentially lay a claim on her that humans don’t actually have.
I really don't understand why they deleted this. It's absolutely amazing and adorable! This scene would've really showed Toothless's and the Light Fury's relationship and how strong/true it actually is. I have decided to live in a lie and say that this scene was actually in the movie. I love the third movie, but I just wish they would've kept this scene in.
This would make more sense why Toothless wanted to be with her... Just all these showed a whole falling in love scene, or is it just me? She seemed genuine when she chuckled out of joy when toothless did the thing and all... idk, is it just me?
I thought so too, it just gave a bit more emotion to her. I think she's fine in the movie, but this just would have been extra points. XD Really I just made this thinking some people who thought she lacked something could see what she was fully supposed to be like, and hopefully lessen the hatred for the poor girl. And I want to see this in HTTYD's original animation style. Woulda been SO pretty to see these things, just think of the colors!
I have no problem with the light fury. Her being a love interest dong really seems bad. I think my problem is come on, this scene was so cute, plus the music sounds more fitting for them hanging out together. They could've kept it
while the “point” of the original scene comes across in the full movie (which is why i imagine this was cut) i feel like the more extended version wouldve been warranted to show the connection between these two characters. I have other issues with httyd3 and the light fury so its inclusion wouldnt magically make me love or even like the movie but it wouldve made the light fury and toothless’ bond feel a little more genuine
it was insanely sudden and yeah as cute and as awesome an idea it was, it was NOT THAT GENUINE, ngl i cant help feeling it couldve been better if she wasnt in the trailer at all somehow? (or maybe if they just yk did better) granted that wouldnt have made much sense but if they focused on grimmal tryna finish his night fury killing streak and left the light fury as a surprise maybe i wouldve loved the movie, i gotta be honest tho the scene where all dragons left had me bawling despite what unfortunately the majority of the movie lacked
I love this so much. It captures the same love that is between Hiccup and Toothless and their exploration of such wonder and freedom. This makes the separation they endure make more sense on an emotional level in my opinion.
I love this deleted scene because you can see them properly fall in love with each other. It's so adorable! I can see why it would've been super hard to animate though.
The best thing about the light fury's design is the marine traits of her morphology, I wish they had leaned into that more heavily because it's so subtle that she just looks like a toothless recolor at a glance :/
That's usually the point of a sub-species, though. They're very similar and only have small physical or genetic differences. She's a simpler version of a Fury, one that clearly has adapted better than NFs seeing as LFs have survived all this time.
It can take hours to animate even as little as 30 seconds depending on how detailed the movies are, they probably cut this beautiful scene so they could meet the deadline they set for themselves after already postponing the original release date :)
The reason I think Light Fury doesn't feel more than a female put to distract Toothless as it seems to be. Is because the movie was rushed as fuck. They tried to put everything in a 1hour and a half movie. I didn't even understood well the whole story. It was for a 3 hour movie. The rushing affected the whole world building, even the villian.
i found this insanely sad cus Grimmel's character idea was AMAZING it legit had the potential to be better than drago which is near impossible for sure, and frankly i think because the movie was a tiny bit of a flop it didnt really let me end my obsession? which is now making me desperate for them to make something again but BETTER (i am aware of the live action one coming i stg it better be good or i will grind dreamworks bones into a bloody powder and make a dreamworks movie about it)
I wish I knew what happened to them in between the end of that scene and when Hiccup & Astrid found them in the Hidden World
I may or may not be debating writing a short story about that, actually. I'm trying to take up some fanfiction writing for HTTYD. Not sure if many would be interested.

Honestly, it seems that she was only interested in Toothless because he is the alpha

I have decided to gaslight myself into thinking this was actually in the movie and the lightfury isn't just a glittery mass with a single trait called FEMALE
Oh, please don't hate on the LF here. >.> I personally love her design.
That's harsh :(
Don't get me wrong, I love her too! It's just the fact she has barely any personality except for the fact she's toothlesses mate and doesn't like humans @@TheEnvisFury
I completely agree with you. That’s exactly why I made my own AU with a complete redesign of the Light Fury.
Yeah, I looked at the art book and they literally said they were trying to make her look female and non reptilian.
It's so sad that the movie really went "This character is fierce, brave, smart, playful, a bit goofy, curious, gentle, sympathetic... and this one is a girl!"
What's wrong with it being a girl?
Nothing, but its a problem when your a main character and that's all there is too you.
@@spider-soniczilla2989 wdym?
Damn right.
She made Toothless look like a beg
For someone who thought how Toothless just dropped hiccup so quickly. This small but cute scene would have really shown the chemistry that the two had and it would have gave the girl more character. They really had such a missed opportunity for the last movie.
I think the main reason I disliked the light fury when i first watched the movie is because it felt like she was “stealing” Toothless away from Hiccup.
I feel like the conversation regarding this scene went a little like:
“And she has personality, they interact with each other in a way that helps to understand the light fury’s character more, she seems stuck up, but she’s really playful and goofy on the inside.”
“Nah let’s make her only personality trait ‘FEMALE’ 😍”
I will never forgive them for putting in so many cute and clever ideas for this scene and just deciding to do absolutely nothing with it
It’s a shame really this had so much potential-
The problem that I had with the movie is that they didn't have much bonding. This scene HAD to be included
THEYRE SO EXPRESSIVE WHEN THEYRE 2D
yes
3D models have limitations due to how the model can warp.
Their getting better, post 2018 DreamWork movies have a better render engine and model set which allows for much more expression then the pre-2018 films. Trolls World Tour had this engine used on it, which is why it was more technically advanced over Trolls and its the best example right now.
@@AngelEmfrbl yeah ofc, 3D has limitations but to see the difference is a wowie!
Fun fact: in the original books, Snotlout is Hiccup's cousin. Which makes it really fuckin weird that he likes Valka
Idk if it wouldve saved her character, but they should have still kept this because it makes their relationship more expanded on.
It's adorable to see the ways they interact and flirt, idk why they didnt use it
Maybe budget?
there are a few singular moments that i think we really needed. the light furry was always very prim and snooty, and toothless was always enamored with her. but we never got to see the light furry fall for toothless
Oh look, a deleted scene that could've made the third movie a bit more bearable than the state it is in now
Bonding scenes are like, the heart of httyd, which makes me sad this scene isn't in the movie at all. they actually seem so cute together here too.
YOURE TELLING ME THAT THEY HAD A WALL-E AND EVA MOMENT READY TO GO AND THEY DIDNT PUT IT IN?!?!!?
I freaking love the idea of the Light Fury. But my issue with her (and this entire movie lol) is that her entire purpose is to separate Hiccup and Toothless. They had such a tight bond -- they were literally meant for each other, and that was emphasized throughout the entire story for years -- and then they just rip them apart because "hey, humans are now stupid and can't learn how to work with dragons."
I would have loved this movie, even a separation between Hiccup and Toothless, but their reasoning for the whole plot just wasn't good enough imo for all of their friendship to just be thrown away like that. And tbh the Light Fury deserves better than to just be a plot device. She deserves to be her own character.
Agreed
The director explicitly said he wanted Toothless to be a dog, and for LF to just be "sexy female". You can thank him for ruining the movie.
Seems about right
Funny, because toothless was animated after cat-like poses and behavior
Well.... man you people and everyone who don't like the lighfury are harsh like, try making ur own movie see how hard it is, some respect for these pour creaitos. HAVE RESPECT
@@LulaRoo-x7b the light fury has a sexy model.
I never thought her character was that bad, but seeing how many times they could've twirled together, it would've made the movie much more memorable!
@@tsundereyoongi i guess but that’s not an excuse for poor characterization. Toothless had more personality than her when he was wild
this wouldve made the connection to each other be more felt by the audience, we werent shown any bonding between them and they just kinda tossed the relationship at us
For me, the light fury didn’t feel like a real breathing character. They just felt like an obstacle to teach toothless about their abilities and lessons. And that sucks! I want to like this character, tell they feel something. And I know this scene wouldn’t it do a lot of justice, but MAN is it all that I need, please she feels like a card-board cut out-
That’s because they cared more about her being a plot device rather than her own character.
"Toothless suddenly wanted to leave with her". Ever heard of this little thing called "animal instincts"?
WE COULD HAVE HAD DRAGON FLIRTING

I don't think it would have made her more of a character necessarily, but it would have definitely done so much more than what we got. Here, she at least seems to have more of a personality and this 5 minutes gives us more insight into their bonding and what her personality is actually like, since it was quite rushed in the movie. This would have been so much more than what we got.
I imagine that this was mostly cut due to time restraints. Which is a shame because it is so beautifully storyboarded.
This added SO much to the Light Fury’s personality! They truly shot themselves in the foot by cutting this! 🤦♀️
Literally would have taken the writers five seconds to come up with this, but they couldn’t even be bothered.
Why is it that the deleted scenes are always some of the best
fr
this should have definitely have been in the movie, this scene just shows more of the bond between them instead of them just being instantly in love because its a male and female. It also gives the light fury some actual personality other than just being a wild dragon that doesnt trust humans and only acts as a love interest for toothless
This makes so much sense! Eagles will do a similar free fall of love where they lock talons and dive.
the movie didn't sit right. it needed more meaningful and silly pure stuff like this scene. just exploring things naturally
this is what hhtyd was always meant to be, cute dragons flying around with beautiful scenery and meaningful character building
pretty much every important scene in the first movie, where characters really developed, or relationships were explored more, was in the sky
hiccup and toothless only really got each other after they flew together, same with hiccup and astrid, and every other character with their dragons; it’s like, the whole point
The movie had plenty issues in general but that part just rubs me the wrong way a ton
this deleted scene would've made their flight so much more lively and feel like a real HTTYD movie..
Completely agree, especially after seeing that one scene from the short film as well as this movie's ending.
Could you elaborate on that? What exactly did she do that was manipulation?
This would have made it so much better, actually giving her some personality besides "I'm pretty and don't like people"
@@savannahamcintosh5967 she was never meant to have a personality.
The grabbing each others tails reminds me of bald eagle’s courtship dance where they lock talons and drop from the sky only to break away at the last minute
They actually do grab talons and drop down from the sky in a wheel into THW in the official scene, it's quite cute.
I just wish she was more expanded on, and Toothless felt more emotions toward her than head over heels.
Hiccup literally told toothless to go with her, and he came back a few years later.@@T_E_G

I’m crying this is so cute
It give the lightfury FLAVOR like not just female toothless/confused potential mate
God I wish this was in the movie
i've seen no one else point this out but at 4:47 they probably based that scene off of what eagles do as a courtship ritual, bald eagles lock talons with their mate in flight and spiral down towards the ground! they also sometimes do this when fighting over territory, sometimes never letting go and falling to their deaths but that part is not as important. just a small fun fact!
That is so cool
I think it wouldn't have saved the character, but would have shown in more detail why they love each other. Their movements in the dance, the touching of their wings, the communication without words. That should have been added to the movie about dragons!
I like the movie, but I need more dragons!)))
AND THIS SOUNDTRACK WAS NEVER IN THE MOVIE ? IM CRYING
I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed this lol 😂 like why tf is El Dorado Music in this??
I just realized that they changed her noises in the final product. LET HER SOUND LIKE A DRAGON DAMN IT!
i still fully believe that the movie would have just been so much better if the lightfury had been a female night fury. she could still serve the same purpose but it would make more sense that his actual species could help toothless figure out how to turn invisible instead of a sub species
There were so many ways they could have done this movie well.
It’s such a disappointment to see the way it turned out.
It’s also INFURIATING bc I fucking LOVE the light fury’s design but it’s insufferable bc she was just designed to be a “female dragon”
I really dont care if httyd 3 was longer cause of this. Its adorable.
The most bizarre thing is that no one from Berk hesitated to abandon his dragons, or took the floor to suggest a better way out...
That should NEVER have been deleteddd

Ikkk they totally screwed up the last movie. There were just way too many plot holes and unjustified/unnecessary scenes
Light fury deserved more time to get to know her character

The scene was probably cut for pacing reasons, but it really shouldn't have been. Watching these two orcas of the sky in a full courtship flight would have really brought some magic back to a movie that was sorely lacking in it.
Orcas of the sky, that's hilarious. Love it. XD
@@TheEnvisFuryThink about it:
They're extremely smart, on the edge of full sapience while still being animals
They're very social.
@@ArchTeryx00 I don't disagree, it just sounded amusing. Also , "edge of full sapience while still being animals"? I hate that argument.
NOT TO MENTION THE FALLING PART!!!
oh my god thats amazing, it resembles the courtship baldeagles perform to find the best mate. its like a challenge, they hook tallons and plunge down from great heights. the later the mate frees themselves to save their skin, the better the relationship or something like that
I thought that was them fighting over a female but uh oh well?
I will be taking this as cannon, and there is nothing anyone can do to convince me otherwise.
This is epic.
Agreed. It's canon until they do something to contradict it. And if they do, it means there's more HTTYD material out.
Honestly I love this scene. I feel like it definitely would've added a bit more depth to anything. A silly little moment.
I wish they added this it shows a lot more of her personality
Right at the end when they lock feet and spiral down I think this is probably a reference to the “death spiral” eagles do when they find a mate… I wish they kept that and the rest of the scene in 😭😭😭
God the scene where they’re in front of the moon and she’s sparkling in the light would’ve been so gorgeous fully animated
I'm still mad that they didn't even give her a NAME. The writers were like "Oh she doesn't have a name to emphasise how much of a wild untamed creature she is" Screw you, we could have gotten Toothless and Gummy, not Toothless and nameless Light Fury.
@1ynn_0toothless and toothlots
Gummy is such a cute name to give her
She doesn't have a name because she doesn't have a rider.
Toothless and Teefie
Its cute they did the eagle trust fall
Ha, more like eagle mating fall
@theweirdpotato3606 It's called that too. Also called the death spiral!
honestly. those dragons had more romance in this scene then i'll have in my entire life. shouldve kept the scene 😭😭
I hate deleted scenes
they always add so much, and yet some dumb f decides they donnt belong to the movie
Same
This would make more sense why Toothless wanted to be with her...
XD
Really I just made this thinking some people who thought she lacked something could see what she was fully supposed to be like, and hopefully lessen the hatred for the poor girl. And I want to see this in HTTYD's original animation style. Woulda been SO pretty to see these things, just think of the colors!
Gosh, that scene made me actually like the two of them together
It's sad that scenes like these get cut because they make the movie too long, it often cuts context and/or our time to get to know the characters more
I have no problem with the light fury. Her being a love interest dong really seems bad. I think my problem is come on, this scene was so cute, plus the music sounds more fitting for them hanging out together. They could've kept it
This is so cute! Especially when she teased she wouldn’t touch him at the beginning and then her touching his wing at the end. Makes sense now!
while the “point” of the original scene comes across in the full movie (which is why i imagine this was cut) i feel like the more extended version wouldve been warranted to show the connection between these two characters.
This could have shown how lively she actually was instead of being just a Glittery female dragon who’s only purpose is to be Toothless’s mate
Why are the comments so fresh ?? So aint the only one who JUST got this at their recommendations
HELP SAME 😭😭

I've been wondering why the comments have exploded too. XD
This gives her so much more personality and character rather than just being a female dragon for toothless to mate with
As if she has no personality, seriously
It was a 5 minute scene, im sure they could have implemented this... I like seeing her fun and playful personality
It can take hours to animate even as little as 30 seconds depending on how detailed the movies are, they probably cut this beautiful scene so they could meet the deadline they set for themselves after already postponing the original release date :)
@@toonie_playzz maybe but even so, it would have been a lot nicer with it in
I would have LOVED to see the Light Fury reacting to Toothless' new tail fin!
Ikr!! Has a wild dragon it would have made a lot of sense!
We now can see more into the light fury's character that she can be playful when she is out of the hidden world when her job is the queen! 😃
illustrating love without words. i can't believe they deleted this
The reason I think Light Fury doesn't feel more than a female put to distract Toothless as it seems to be. Is because the movie was rushed as fuck. They tried to put everything in a 1hour and a half movie. I didn't even understood well the whole story. It was for a 3 hour movie. The rushing affected the whole world building, even the villian.
i found this insanely sad cus Grimmel's character idea was AMAZING it legit had the potential to be better than drago which is near impossible for sure, and frankly i think because the movie was a tiny bit of a flop it didnt really let me end my obsession? which is now making me desperate for them to make something again but BETTER (i am aware of the live action one coming i stg it better be good or i will grind dreamworks bones into a bloody powder and make a dreamworks movie about it)
@@crowdlycrow3632 definitely wrong.
