    Very helpful list . I had a senior moment a few months ago and didn’t label sausage after canning had to finally open one to see what it was hamburger or sausage .🙂 Taught me to always label food and date.❤️

      I was told that some of my canned fruit was canned in China. The worry wasn't for the fruit it was about the can they were in. Got me thinking if I keep those in my extended pantry, the metal could leach into the fruit. So I am thinking about recanning them into jars. If I do that, could I water bath them ? I think if I pressure can them the fruit might turn to mush. What do you all think?

    Hello Jinne, I'm writing from Germany. It's interesting that you mentioned that a lot of other countries don't use pressure canners. To be honest, it took me some time to find out what pressure canning is because indeed we don't have it in Germany. I may try to order from Amazon - not sure if that will work out.
    Anyhow, thank you for your great advice! Stay safe!

    Excellent points on stock rotation.
    It's frustrating when you have to throw out food that you worked hard to get.
    If you stock things that you use regularly and rotate properly, you can avoid wasting food and money.

      We also give our chickens some spoiled food but avoid giving them anything with meat in it.

      @user-gd8ej4oy3m you're right.
      I've even seen ours eat small snakes .
      I was thinking more about spoiled meat. I would avoid that.

    Each shelf in my pantry is organized by year of expiration. When things are getting close to expiration, I pull those items & try to cook recipes using those items. That seems to work well for us!

    Once again a very helpful list on keeping us prepared. When we really started getting our pantry more stocked a couple of years ago we did put dates on everything. We also keep a running inventory of things because we have quite a bit in the freezer, pantry shelves and in bins so I am a list inventory type person and so we had to do that. It is a little time consuming but keeps items in perspective for what we have and what we might be short of. Thanks again for all that you do for us.

    I certainly agree that vacuum-sealing extends the life of frozen foods, but it also extends the life of cheese in the refrigerator.I have kept cream cheese and block cheeses vacuum-sealed in the fridge for more than a year.
    I disagree about water bath canning low-acid foods just because people in other countries do it.We not only have no idea how many people die or get sic, or weakened ,(most countries have higher early death rates), but also, like Traveler's Dysentery, some people have a better tolerance for certain toxins, viruses and bacteria.

    A lot of times I reuse lids when I can broth. I figure that I’m making something out of scraps and water so if the seal fails, I haven’t lost any money. Plus, I use so much of it that I can definitely use it within a day or two.

    oxygen absorbers will keep bugs out of buckets of food and kill insect eggs. Better than putting the food in the freezer! (Freezers will cause the eggs to go dormant and doesn’t necessarily kill them)

      Freezing did nothing for my cornmeal. I put a fresh bag in the freezer, left it for several weeks. Transferred the unsealed bag into a sealed container in the pantry. Went to use it a few weeks later and...live bugs. I don't use cornmeal that often. But the freezer isn't the miracle worker insecticide that so many people tout online.

    I post this frequently, PLEASE Check the NUTRITIONAL VALUES on those freeze dried and dehydrated foods! MOST brands are now using GMO Vegetables, which have little or no nutritional value (one reason we are getting sicker and fatter) And way too many have so many chemicals in them... not worth the few dollars you may think your saving. THRIVE LIFE is WONDERFUL most products are single ingredient and highly nutritious. Survival Nutrient, some Mountain house and another company Auguson Farms, BUT CHECK THOSE LABELS! Thrive life is a GREAT Company with really GREAT products. much love and happy prepping

    • @alk3078
      @alk3078 5 месяцев назад

      GMO and non GMO have the same nutritional value. Facts matter

    • @limitedaxcess
      @limitedaxcess 5 месяцев назад

      @@alk3078 IF you care to ACTUALLY RESEARCH .. The food grown in previous DECADES (start at 1950 when the FDA was tracking it ) Fresh food nutritional values were 50 to 90 % HIGHER. Yes facts DO Matter. GROW YOUR VEGETABLES if you can even a little in grow bags or Buckets. If you READ labels you're going to be shocked.

    • @limitedaxcess
      @limitedaxcess 5 месяцев назад

      @@alk3078 Just wanted to expand on that last point. Fresh vegs Are now grown to LAST longer. Tougher skins and genetically Modified so they don't rot quickly. This has lead to a vitamin and mineral deficiency, and the seed producers know it. The farmers and the grocers want to get paid, and most of us don't want vegs rotting on the shelves or in our refrigerator. There's an older youtube documentary About it with receipts FROM THE SEED COMPANY CEO. LOOK IT UP if your interested.

    Dinning out tonight did not resemble any shortages of food at all. Yummy 😋🤤
    The buffet bar was loaded high with everything imaginable from fried chicken to egg rolls pipping hot..
    Salad bar was covered with fresh crispy lettuce, sauces, cottage cheese, cold bean salads and macaroni salads...
    Then desert's crammed full on the counter of pies, cakes, cookies and ice cream 🍨🍦 😅
    So I'm just not clear on your broadcasting of a food shortages 😲..
    I just don't understand this when I don't see anything like what your babbling about...

    • @chelseagarchar4338

      We used to spend $300- $400 a month on groceries for our family of 5, now we are spending, $500-$600 a month. In other parts of the United States there are 100% shortages. Canned foods in particular are thinned out. Prices are 1/3 higher to twice as much as they were, 5-6 years ago. In all aspects of food from grocery shopping to eating out at fast food. Trust me we don’t shop for fancy foods either. We raise and process a lot of our own meats. We garden and have fruit trees. Other countries, particularly in Europe are saying there are food shortages in certain areas and varieties of foods or are so expensive people are having a hard time affording food. It’s been a slow uptick in prices for several years.
