I think the most overused names for a coaster are "roller coaster", "Boomerang", " batman the ride", and "Goliath".

Roller Coaster has got to be one of the most bland names for a coaster.
But at least it means it has the best theming!

People think that Main Street is the most popular/used name for streets in America. It's actually Frontage Road. Roller Coaster is about a s LaZy as you can get in naming a roller coaster except Rollo Coaster.
What about Rollie’s Coaster
There are probably even way more coasters named 'roller coaster' out there if you into account the coasters that are just named 'roller coaster' but in a different language. Like as a Dutch person, there are multiple coasters named 'Achtbaan' (the Dutch world for roller coasters) in our country. Same goes for Germany (Achterbahn in German) and also montana rusa in a lot of latin languages, I'm guessing that's the same for many and I mean MANY other languages and coasters around the world.
It surprises me what names Six Flags doesn't use more often, like the one Tatsu and only a couple Ninjas; or DC characters that deserve more than just one coaster, like Green Lantern and The Flash.
Crazy, mad, wild - a lot of mice with mental health issues.

Brands tend to have brand names. I don’t think Batman’s and Superman’s are over used. If there were 10 Disney Magic Kingdom parks, there would be 10 Big Thunder Mountains and 10 Space Mountains. There are allot of Batman’s and Superman’s because there are allot of Six Flags parks.
As someone who has spent a lot of time looking up coasters in china for list videos I'm astounded that Jungle Trailblazer isn't on here.

Not as fancy as you would expect, i wish i had access to their database but i was relegated to copying and pasting every page into excel and using a pivot table on the coaster names

I was ready to be disappointed by roller coast not being #1. Now I'm perfectly satisfied.
Video Idea: Top 15 coasters less tall than the speed of the fastest coaster. Where you count down the top 15 coasters less than 150 (the fastest coaster in the world’s speed) ft.
Went to a state fair with a Wacky Worm named "Wacky Cowboy" which had art of mice dressed as cowboys. I kept getting confused and calling it a Wild Mouse, lol.
All of these overused names and we still don't have a Fiery Fist o' Pain
There’s a gajillion parks out there with the name happy valley. I must say though I think that’s a good name for an amusment park. It’s simple, but it rolls right off the tongue

It should be ILLEGAL to reuse a coaster name unless it's actually a clone, and even then it should be required to have a modifier. Ie: Chicago's Batman, LA's Batman, etc.

Figure eight closely resembles the Dutch word for roller coaster, namely 'achtbaan' (literally eight-track or eight-course).
There’s also, boomerang, Leap-the-dips, twister, pandemonium (kinda), Goliath, Corkscrew, Racer, Jack Rabbit, Comet, Flying Turns (I think), and I can go on and on.

I was about to say actually there is a Family Coaster at a zoo in Arizona so there's definitely more than one... Looked it up though and that one is called Family Roller Coaster, so a near miss!

And this is only with english names, cause at Tibidabo (Spain) we have Muntanya Russa, wich is catalan for Roller Coaster, wich would increase that count... And surely there are more hidden among the list

there is an Intamin SLC in finland named tornado which i think is one of the better ones!
I feel like any major park would name a new coaster something other than the most used or iconic (Cyclone or Wildcat). Small parks naming after well known is understandable. The Wild Mouse type is what that type is known of being. Then there is Six Flags with Goliath.

How did Montana Rusa not make the list. Technically it could be combined with Roller Coaster. It’s English translation is “Russian Mountain,” but it’s definition matches that of the English words roller coaster. Rcdb shows 52, with six others starting with or containing the words montanarusa.
Canadas wonderland has one coaster named Dragon, it's Dragon Fyre and our Wild Mouse is called the Fly, which I only rode once because it gave me bruises, haven't been on it since.
This is a great idea for a video, keep ‘em coming! I predicted Roller Coaster to be the winner before I started watching and I wasn’t disappointed at all.

Ooh the Butterflies. Yes, they're on RCDB, but it's controversial. For most (European) coaster fans they are flat rides, not roller coasters. But we do them because we can.
Yeah, they barely even qualify as flat rides. They’re basically playground rides.

It would be interesting to start filtering these names by, say, coaster height. At some point, do "Wild Mouse" and "Dragon" start yielding to "Cyclone" and "Boomerang", and then "Batman" and "Superman" and "Goliath"?

If I owned a park I would want my coaster lineup to be unique and special. Ide make sure my name was unique and that the company that built the ride couldn't clone it elsewhere

B&M’s Hyper coaster ‘clamshell’ and Intamin’s Pantheon swing launch coaster restraints are my two favorites.
On the flip side, RMC coasters are extremely thrilling but I can’t stand their shin splinter leg restraints. Very uncomfortable.

What do you think is the disparity that causes your numbers to be different (lower) than just rcdb search results? Relocations maybe? I know you used a spreadsheet for more specific results. For instance roller coaster comes up as 395 and wild mouse 172. Just curious.
Yeah could be relocations, sometimes it's hard to get a sense of how many coasters there really are on rcdb because of the way they handle relocations. I just said give me every single coaster, then pasted every page into excel, and used a pivot table on the coaster name to get the number of each

Not at all. They're good for people afraid of heights, and good ones provide plenty of laterals and sometimes some nice pops of airtime.
