    First gen Tundras are so underrated. These things had damn near lexus like build quality unlike the plastic cheap interiors and massive panel gaps of the generations after it. This was peak toyota build quality.

  • @speedacademydave

    1st gen Tundras are the sweet spot and yours sure looks mint! Right size, right amount of power, it just does everything so well. I had one for years and as much as I love my 2nd gen Tundra I prefer the 1st gen for everyday use.

    • @Garagetopics
      @Garagetopics  Год назад +3

      The size of the first gen is great! Their main weakness (IMO) is the brakes and the trucks towing capability, otherwise they are solid

    • @speedacademydave
      @speedacademydave Год назад +1

      @@Garagetopics spot on. I put helper air bags in the rear of mine and it made it a much better tow rig (I used to tow my race car on an open trailer behind it and the air bags levelled it out nicely and helped stabilize the whole package while hauling since I could run proper tongue weight and not have the nose of the truck in the air).

    I have a 2005. Bought it from my mother when my dad died in 2012. It only had 33K on it. Now in 2023 it only has 88K, so neither one of us drives many miles. At this rate, it will hit 100K during it's 20th year birthday, maybe. It was my dad's last vehicle, so to me it's kinda special.

    I think what you’ve done with this Tundra is amazing. Almost as amazing as finding a Tundra like this in the first place!
    After an exhaustive search with many long days driving across several states, I must give up on my Tundra search. Everything I find is rusted out, high miles, or the paint is completely gone from baking in the sun. Worst of all is the many dealers that lied to me about the condition of these cars before I spent my time driving. I’m extremely disappointed I’ve yet to find a gem like this one.

This is the first truck I've owned, and I love it. My previous car, a 2002.5 24v GTI, I had for 17 years and only sold it cause I moved to Hawaii and could only justify taking one car (decided to keep my 1990 GLI). So I'll have this truck for a long time.

It’s been very reliable although I have had a few issues (A/C compressor, power steering rack and tranny mount) but all worth it. I’m fixing to put some money in it now because I’m never getting rid of it. It’s white so the paint is shot, needs new leather on the front seats, new Bluetooth stereo system, needs the lower ball joint repair. I would get in this thing right now and drive across the country.

      Just now reading this. A 2005 with 78k miles? Jump on it. Have the 2003 Tundra 4.7 liter. The motor is amazing. Biggest downsides to the truck front brakes wear out quickly, in any slick conditions the rear end is like butter and fuel economy is abysmal, otherwise jump on it.

    I have a 2006 SR5 2 wheel double cab I bought used with 33k on it in 2009 for 14k. Never did anything to it until last year when a number of maintance items needed done after 118k , Spent 4k on it , sterring, timing belt, new suspension etc. Was well worth it. Never one engine issue. It currently has 123k on it. Frame is clean living in GA. The truck has always been outside and still looks great, I do keep it waxed. The black window trim has fadded alot and I'll probably paint it this year. The front orignal head lights are getting foggy so I'll probably upgrade to the new ones you used. My wife keeps telling me to buy a new tundra but I love this truck other than the gas milage. My guess is I can still sell it for 11- 12k. The new Tundras just have not won me over yet.

    Got an ‘06 DC Limited, drove it of the lot new in ‘07. At 160k now. 4.7L V8 motor n trans will go for fucking ever if you do the scheduled maintenance.
    Edit - When the stupid smog fans go out - they will eventually - get a bypass kit from Hewitt Technologies. It’s like the one dumbass move Toyota made engineering the 4.7. They’re stupid expensive and the aftermarket ones fail within a year. Thank me later

      Yep I have read about those pumps going bad. Unfortunately I'd be willing to bet that company that overrides the system may have a hard time fighting off the govt based on all the diesel emissions nonsense going on

    • @smith8124
      @smith8124 Год назад

      @@Garagetopics Maybe, maybe not. The emissions fans only have one job, to heat up the catalytic converters faster on cold starts. They literally only run or effect emissions for the first 90 seconds of run time, and only if the vehicle has been off for 8hrs or more. Anyways, they’re available now and work great to keep the fans off, clear the check engine light, and get you out of limp mode.

      @@ToyotaNutjobI’ll take the VVTI that came in the ‘05-‘06. The Hewitt kit is a small price to pay for the extra ponies and that beautiful sound when you put your foot in it. Doubly so when you throw a cold air intake on and get those induction sounds 🤌🏻
