    I have a 05 Tundra SR5 DC regular maintenance, use for everything towing,hauling, family trips, runs like new, 410,000 miles and counting. Installed bypass for Secondary air pump at 200k, rear end died at 350k, but my fault for not changing fluid, other than that engine will run forever, everything around it like seals will need to be replaced, hope to make 1 million miles.

    I’ve got an ‘05 Access Csb SR5 with the V8 and factory tow package. I bought it brand new and here in the fall of 2022 I’m just now approaching 125K miles. It has the million mile 🤞 4.7L. I believe that engine was also used in some Lexus sedans. I still enjoy driving it everyday. Just a great, trouble free pickup. Mine gets about 15 mpg if you have a light foot. A Toyota mechanic told me that engine gets pretty thirsty above 2,000 RPM. It’s so nice to have a vehicle you bought new and still love it 17 years later.

    • @carsquad_
      @carsquad_  Год назад +1

      Wow original owner and low miles. That sounds like a great truck. Such a great purchase you made. The 4.7L was used in Lexus SUV's like the GX 470 and LX 470. The 4.3 which is also a great engine was used in the sedans (LS 430, GS430, SC430). I'd love to review some of those as well!

    Watching this after I just purchased my first pickup ever, the 2006 Tundra SR5 Double Cab. Thanks for a great review assuring me I picked a great truck. It's in great condition at 187k miles with just a few dings/dents, perfect interior, and no rust due to sprayed frame. A few things need to be done like replacing speakers, rearview mirror, the TPMS light, and the AC blower needs to be checked as its so loud. Even so I think I got a great deal at only $8900 from a private seller.

    • @carsquad_
      @carsquad_  2 года назад +1

      That does seem like great deal, and those should be small things to fix. At 187K miles, it has plenty of life left. Congrats on the purchase, and thanks for watching!

    • @mrmustache8735
      @mrmustache8735 2 года назад +4

      The TPMS is known to be problematic. My light won't turn off no matter what I do. When I bought the truck, the previous owner even put a piece of tape over the light lol. Probably got tired of looking at it. It might be fixable, but it's not worth it in my opinion.

      After watch this video, I bought my first truck last month, a 2005 Toyota Tundra black SR5 Double Cab w/4WD. It's almost 280k (a cousin of mine has the 2002 access cab tundra and its 380K) miles but runs excellent, you wouldn't know its over 200k. Things that I have fixed are exhaust muffler, resonator, valve cover gaskets, speakers (not JBL but works), gas straps, spark plugs, K&N air filter (just noticed that there's no cabin air filter on this model year until 2007). So far I love it!

    I had a 2004 Tundra 4x4 Double cab 4.7L V8 and it was a great truck. Very reliable and comfortable. The only issue was it was somewhat gutless and couldn't tow hardly anything. I have owned my 2005 Tundra Limited edition for 15 years and has 91K miles. I love this truck and the only issues I have had were the TPMS light which I fixed with 5 new OEM tire sensors (I programmed them myself with the use of an Autel MaxiTPMS TS508 device from ebay since Toyota wanted my left kidney), gas level indicator on rare occasions fails to show my actual gas amount, engine light was fixed by replacing the secondary air injection pump, the side power mirrors each had a plastic gear stripped which caused them to fail to adjust properly. One thing I noticed is the turning ratio on this truck is very wide so sometimes you may do a quick reverse to complete the u-turns. ...scheduled the 90k miles timing chain service today. A+ truck with no rust.

    I have owned a 2005 Tundra XSP. It’s a solid truck. After 155,000 miles it is still squeak and rattle free. It hasn’t been without engine issues. The secondary air fan went out. This is part of the emissions system. When it goes out the engine goes into limp mode and you must remove the intake manifold to replace. The oil filter housing began leaking oil pretty bad at 80k miles. The valve cover gaskets both leaked like crazy after just 100k miles. The driveshaft center support bearing went out around 100k miles as well. Other little minor issues but I’ve been happy with my 10 years of ownership.

    Being the second owner of a 2005 DC with 93000 miles that I bought as a Certified unit with 25000 miles back in 08 I want to alert anyone considering a 1st gen Double Cab of a couple watch for items. First the Secondary Air Injection pump will fail and the intake must be removed to change out. Second the 1st gen master cylinder is a unicorn part as it has a primary with a secondary master cylinder bolted together and there are no after markets available. The secondary MC, which sits between the primary MC & the brake booster will eventually leak into the brake booster and require replacement. With no after market parts available, your only option is to buy the booster assembly with the primary & secondary MC's combined, and as of this posting you are looking at $900 for that assembly. Just be aware.

    I have a 2005 Tundra, my only issue has been with the harness that connects to the transmission. One of the pins corroded. Other than that, it's been a solid truck for sure. I recently sat inside a 2022 Tundra extended cab and it feels a lot smaller than these 1st gen Tundra's. The center console takes up a lot of space because it extends a little bit further back taking up leg space for the middle rear passenger, so it's more of a four seater truck than a five. I love my truck, my only gripe would be the towing capacity. I wish they bumped it up another ton.

      Biggest headache on our first gen Sequoia was the rear hatch handle, replaced several times. Bad interior plastics. Everything beneath the skin, all the really important stuff was bulletproof. So far second gen is just as bulletproof, but with a better interior and gobs more power. Don’t forget to change that timing belt on the 4.7! That’s the only thing that will kill it.

    6 months late to the party - I own a 2005 Tundra SR5 with a V8. While 2005 and 2006 are nicer trucks on paper than let's say an 2004 - from a "less is more perspective", the 04 Tundra has some less expensive features or lack there of when future repair bills roll in.
    * The 05 thru 06 model years added a secondary air injection system that is located under the intake manifold and is very expensive to repair - if original parts are used.
    * Replacing the camshaft seals on the 05/05 Variable Valve Timing engines is a horrendously expensive repair. Not so on the 2004.
    * The four speed automatic transmission on the 2004 still had a dip stick. The late 5 speed requires checking the AT fluid level from beneath the vehicle with the engine fully warmed up.
    Now for the good news - My 2005 Tundra gets a solid 16 miles per gallon while on the Interstate doing 75 to 80 MPH. City only driving - which is in the center of town - I get 10 to 11 mpg.

    I was definitely drooling over an older double cab 6ft bed Tacoma but I feel like those are sooo hard to come by as most double cabs have the 5ft bed, which I don’t think I would be able to justify if buying a truck.
    Looking at the tundras it just makes so much more sense. Looking for double cab tundras you know exactly what you’re getting. Plenty of space in the back seat, a 6ft 2 bed, standard v8, and way more features. I believe it comes in at 12 inches longer than the Tacoma with the double cab and 6 foot bed. I would love the versatility of a shorter Tacoma but still the tundra just makes more sense. I know the 4.0 is super reliable too but that 4.7L is legendary. I was looking at Lexus gx 470’s a year or two ago and started drooling over those for a bit. Especially since they were far cheaper than the 4 runners. Pretty much on the same platform and usually came loaded with all the luxury features.
    But now in this market any truck is exorbitantly priced. Im probably going to try to wait it out as they are just too damn much right now and the price difference could probably allow me to spend the extra money on one where the previous owner has the rust under control, I’ll make that bitch last forever 😂

    • @carsquad_
      @carsquad_  2 года назад

      Yes agreed. The Tacoma is an awesome truck ( I personally love the first gen double cab Tacoma and am hoping to review one). They are a bit more versatile/usable if you don't need to haul as much and you're in a city type of area. The Tundra while a bit larger, is just more spacious, has a more usable bed, and reliability is great. I reviewed a 2017 DC Tacoma, and it didn't have anywhere near the same leg room and space in the rear seats as this Tundra does. Tacomas do hold their value extremely well, and I think you can get great deal on these Tundras still even though the market for trucks has gone up like you mentioned. But either way you go, they are both excellent trucks!

      @@carsquad_ yeah I’m driving a 2016 Avalon hybrid at the moment. Really feeling the burn on not having a high cargo 4wd vehicle. Hoping to be able to run both at the same time so I don’t think the bigger size will be too much of an issue if that’s the case. Although I’m already dealing with a 195” inch long car the older tacomas have about a foot on my car. And the newer ones closer to a foot and a half.
      The real killer in my hybrid avalon is no folding rear seats. Makes it very hard to put anything over 4 feet long in the car. 5-6 feet is possible depending on shape

      @@carsquad_ I have a first gen double cab Tacoma, and wish I had went with a Tundra instead and probably will switch soon. The cabin is too cramped. The very short bed isn’t that useful. Yes it can fit in the garage easier (that is why I went with the Tacoma), but it still has a ridiculous turning circle for such a small truck. The Tundra gives you much more bang for your buck. (Our family has had both 1st and 2nd gen Sequioa so I am very familiar with the Tundra’s guts)
      The 2001 Sequoia we had was bulletproof mechanically, but the interior and body plastics were GARBAGE. I wonder if they fixed that late on the first gen with examples like this truck? The second gen Sequoia has an interior that has held up much better.
