The transmission and engine is bullet proof. The engine block is cast iron and never leak or burn a drop of oil. If I was to choose a vehicle to drive all across country and knowing it will be reliable ..it will be the first gen tundra
That is great to hear! Now that they are getting older I'd like to see how everything else holds up on the truck like electronics etc. Subscribe if you want I'll be building my tundra up on the channel
Garage Topics I have an 01 Sequoia with close to 200k, it clearly had a hard life and “deferred maintenance” with previous owners. The guts and electronics are pretty much bulletproof. I lost one coil pack, 5 minute fix for $45. The interior and body is garbage. I guess you can’t have it all at this price.
My 2000 access cab limited drives like a dream with 115k on it. I did all the recommended “100k” jobs to it (six ball joints to include upper, lower, and toe rod ends, belt and water pump, bearing carrier and u joints, shocks and struts, plugs, ALL fluids, valve cover gaskets, tube seals, and grommets, and the two oil cooler seals, as well as replace brake pads and shoes, drums, rear brake pistons, upgraded to larger front brakes, also replaced all lights to LED, replaced window rain visors and rail caps, 10:43 and needed to replace radiator, master cylinder, and entire throttle body which included servo motor and both sensors and new gasket. With price of truck and all this done by myself it was still under 16k for it. It’s a 2WD and the only thing I wish it had was a damn diff locker which I can get from Eaton for around 800 (and whatever cost to install professionally and correctly). I plan and hope to keep this truck for a very very long time unless I find a super deal on an 05 or 06 dbl cab with a diff locker or a good LSD.
@@dangda-ww7de I think it may have to do with engine size and how much power the compressor leeches from the engine. I regularly drive 2 different 5.7 Tundras, one 2007 and one 2008. I used to daily a 2003 4.7 Tundra. After topping them all off with freon the newer 5.7s definitely got colder and got colder faster then the 4.7.
They have been making components lighter and smaller to meet strickter epa regulations so i wouldnt be surprised if the compressor of the tacoma was much eco/smaller
Just need to be careful of the catalytic converters clogging. Had that happen on my 04 and it blew compression on two cylinders at 194k. Had to get a new motor but it’s only got 30k on the block now (had 18k when I bought it.)
Bestia13 I’m not sure how long it was bad seeing as I bought the truck at 189k miles. Mechanic that did the replacement said too much back pressure could’ve made the cylinders drop since he didn’t find anything else wrong. Unfortunately I can do a good majority of Mechanicals on my trucks but getting that deep into a motor is out of a range of expertise. Once it gets down to dropping cylinders like that I unfortunately have to take the word of whatever mechanic I believe I trust
I felt the same way .... I bought a 2015 sport LONGBED 22k miles 4x4 Tacoma for$29,500 and hated it . I sold it after 1yr for $30,500 and bought a 2006 Tundra 2wd 130k miles for $6,500 . I couldn't be happier. I love the tundra 1st gen.
@@richarde1355 the plastic bed in the Tacoma makes it feel like a toy. The seats in the Tacoma suck ass and the truck rides like shit on long drives . The 1st gen tundra rides smooth like a Cadillac, comfy seats, feels like a solid truck .
Was actually really curious about the old tundras vs the tacomas. Thanks for doing the video, and those tundras look really nice with an after market front bumper.
I've got a first gen Sequoia - basically the SUV version of your tundra. Hands down the best setup. I've got 35" tires and a lift and it still gets 15mpg.
I bought a ‘04 Tundra recently with 132k miles. Perfect frame no rust. Timing belt replaced at 95k. Was a daily driver for a Vietnam vet; drove 10k per year and garage kept. Perfect condition. 11 grand out the door; best decision car wise I made.
I Love my ‘06 double cab. I really like the size. The new Tundras are just too big for me. The only thing I do not like about it is the turning radius- it is horrendous.’ I am a professional mechanic and we see these trucks with 3-400,000 miles often and they all still have the original powertrains.
The turning radius on the 2004 - 2006 double cab is why I got rid of mine. I absolutely loved the truck except for the turning radius. My 2013 5.7 has been outstanding and is a better tow vehicle.
Love my 06 4.7, only have done front suspension work at 220,000 miles. That back window is also great if you need to haul some longer lumber for short distances. Turns like a battleship though.
I bought a 2004 Tundra with 180k on it, I bought it in Houston at auction after the 2017 Harvey flood for $1800. They advertised it to be flooded just below the seat line. I changed out the battery, the fuses and relays and still no start. The vehicle was hydrolocked, after busting loose the crank, the truck wanted to start but didn't. We realized it need a new starter and found out it was under the intake manifold, when pulling it apart to get to the starter, we saw water pitting all inside the manifold; come to find out I realized the flood level was over the hood line. Never the less we swapped out the starter and the truck cranked right up. I have over 200k on the truck and it runs like It's brand new, albeit some minor door lock electrical issues, other than that these trucks are indestructible and a beast!
Great video, I agree 1st Gen Tundras are awesome for all around use. The 4.7l motor and the A340 transmission are extremely reliable if properly maintained.
This was the video that convinced me to get a gen 1 tundra. Copped a 2005 Double Cab limited with 80k. During the chip shortage, got it for 23k -_-, but still cheaper than a Tacoma. I’ve been driving it for about 14 months and I’m in love with this truck! The V8 power alone makes it enjoyable to drive
@@efaciler2462 yes, it’s a lot of money, but a 2012 Tacoma with 70k miles was going for 38,000 at the time (during chip shortage). And I got it from the dealer. If I were to do it again, I’d go through FB marketplace
I have an 06' Tundra that has criss crossed the country multiple times. Love the first generation Tundra, the new ones, especially the 12', are problem prone. Great vid!!
I have a 2005 tundra access cab and for me it’s the perfect size truck. Back seat is fine for our needs and the bed is big enough for mountain bikes! At the same time the entire truck fits in the garage with a foot to spare! Great trucks and video!
I really like the size of the 1st gen Tundra. It's like a 3/4 size pickup that still has a nice look. I owned an 02 Tundra and I'm buying an 06 Tundra with the access cab. I like the full 4dr but I really don't have any need for it as I don't carry any passengers. I think you made a wise choice and I believe you will really enjoy your Tundra.
Recently bought a 2019 F150 XLT. FAR superior truck, I no longer regret selling the Tundra. Especially since I’m a Michigander and it would have needed a new frame.
For the most part it comes down to opinion it does come down to what you need. But I do agree with you. One big thing is the 4.7 in that tundra is one of Toyotas most reliable engine. So it probably one of the most top rated overall engines .
I mean I've had the same 2004 double cab tundra for about 15 or so years amd I only just replaced the battery it came with from the factory, it's a great truck and is very reliable.
I bought a 2002 Tundra, Access, LTD new. I have 162K and it runs fantastic. I had the front seats and armrests re-upholstered due to wear. I had a fuel pump failure (just out of warranty) and that has been the only big problem. I will have this truck as long as I live, no other truck even interests me. And, this truck fits into my garage😁!
I own a 06 Tundra SR5 and it has 4wd and its amazing truck. I have 204,000 miles on it and still runs great and its a pretty good offroader too. The thing im surpise about is the 1st gen tundras are very underrated
@@Garagetopics I'll say this , i do like the look of the new tundras but longer i own my 1st gen more i realize bigger dose not really mean better especially for off road and like you said the 1st gen is a perfect size
@@EchoSlash yep, the size is what I'm mainly referring to here. The 1st gen double cab is a perfect size! I like the 99-06 silverado 2500 sizes as well
Garage Topics great video! the proportions of a 3rd gen tundra and ‘01 Silverado are closer than you’d think. Length is about the same and the I’m able to fit my ‘17 double cab into the same garage that I had to shoe-horn my ext cab Silverado into...mainly the way the upper portion of the tundra cab tapers inward ...which pulls-in the side mirrors. It’s also a shorter engine bay than an older Silverado.
Bought myself a 2006 Tundra SR5 last year with 164K miles and came from California then brought over to Newfoundland Canada, Best feature of the truck is that back window coming down, Best purchased i've made so far!
The double cab is a foot longer than the Access cab. I like the size of the AC better and I don't carry people much. I have always preferred a 1G tundra over any Taco though.
2000 first year, first gen Tundra, 256K miles and it runs like new. Burns no oil. Everything works. Hard to believe it's 24 years old. Just be sure to go OEM only on parts, do the timing belt at the scheduled intervals and watch those ball joints and frame rust.
2002 Limit Access Cab V8 TRD with factory towing package, bed liner, chrome side rails and Michelin tires added, one owner (me), bought new total price in 2002…$28,500. Seemed like a lot then, but now, with just maintenance and 2 more sets of Michelins, it’s been a horse hauling bargain! Love this truck! 125,000 miles (not used as a commuter, just real truck stuff). Still has original ball joints, for now, keeping the rust to a minimum.
I have a 2002 Tundra limited and it is my favorite vehicle. The one you have is the exact spec I want for me and my family. The DVD for the kids. Open air. I would want it in green though.
Great truck! I found a deal on a nice one, so didn't get all of the options I wanted...but you have to jump when you see something special. I got a 2003 Tundra Access Cab, 2wd, killer camper shell w/barn-doors...and only 35,000 miles. Had it 3 years now and am still under 60,000. Been the best truck ever!
Love my 05 SR5 Tundra double cab. 2uz-fe is a champ. Put an ARB bumper on it ($400 on craigslist) and a snug top camper shell ($200 on craigslist). It is an amazing daily/trail/camper/tow rig. I bought mine from the original owner with 120k miles and a full service history. Paid just north of 12k for it 2 years ago. Has approx. 135k on it now and many more to come! Beats leasing or financing a $500/month Taco any day of the week!
I love those trucks I'm on my second one . I had my first one for 13 years . I just bought another one because of how good they treat you as an owner . My first one the engine hydro lock at 300,000 only reason I sold it . But never had Trans mission issues or engine until that happened no idea how. But these trucks are the best and most affordable for now before everyone else notice them.
Replaced the timing belt on my "05 4Runner with the 4.7L engine at 180K. Gets 20mpg on the highway. I have an '05 Tundra 4.7L with 110K, hasn't had a thing wrong with it. Just drove it 1,800 miles at got just under 18mpg for the trip. Might think about doing the belt soon.
Jim Mac As a professional mechanic I routinely see these with original timing belts with over 150-200k. The ONLY time I have seen a broken timing belt on one of these was when someone went over the replacement interval on the second belt but had used a non oe belt the first time. I am sure it wouldn’t have broken if he had used factory parts. I do think the replacement interval is very cautious but I will still be replacing mine at the recommended intervals.
@@jimmac1953 That may be true but there's a silly water pump in there as well. I replaced the belt at 120k and the water pump was foaming pink stuff big time. Second replacement at 240k not so much and both times the belt looked almost new. I always buy the kits and replace pump, pulleys, tensioner, etc whenever I do mines.
I have to agree, I have owned a 2006 for 13 or 14 years. Had very few problems, changed timing belt around 100k miles. Gas mileage is about 15 to 16 mpg. No rust, just a great size truck. It pulls our camp trailer with no problem. Really like this truck.
I love my Tacoma 2012 just like yours. Drove the new one and loved the interior but not the way it drove. I have 148,600 on mine I'm the only owner and haven't had a single problem with it. I won't let it go. Thx for making the video
I own a 2006 Tundra Limited edition with a 6ft. 6in. Bed. I bought it in 2015 an I didn't find out about the bad frame after a year I bought it . It has a 4.7 v-8 . So I'm selling it because I can't afford to fix the frame
Great comparison review... agree with your assessment. I have a 2005 4WD SR5 Tundra. Bigger than the Tacoma and smaller than the Full Size 1/2 Tons from the other makes. Perfect size to do everything. 👍
I'm looking for a first car and the tacoma was the main thing I was looking at. But now I've been thinking more of the tundra rather then the tacoma. Great review!
Thanks! If its your first vehicle, you cant go wrong with either truck. I left this out in the video, but I have owned a access cab 05 Tacoma and I liked that truck a lot - I just needed 4 doors otherwise I would have kept it.
I couldn't agree with everything you said more. I have an 05 Tundra with a few inches of lift and larger tires. I am currently at 300,000 miles and have had one axle bearing fail. It is one of the best trucks Toyota has made by far. I do understand that the next generation tundra has a smaller crew cab and a longer bed, just like yours, because so many people wanted the crew cab but still wanted at least a 6' bed. Great video.
I know this video is 3 years old but still helping people like me as I was wondering what truck I could use as a first car/truck at 24 years old. Thanks for the video dude
Tacoma’s definitely have their place. However I recently switched from a 3rd gen 4runner for similar reasons. More power, more space, and I can fit in the garage again. However I’ve had a 4.0 second gen Tacoma and I loved it. However the tundras are more affordable and I was looking for a wider platform for my tent setup anyway. Pretty stoked myself!
It's 2022...well, almost 2023 and this vid is still spot-on. The newest Tundras (2022 & 2023) have failed to grab Consumer Report's top spots. The 3.4 hybrid is brand new and questionable in terms of longevity. The electronics packed into that thing are not desirable. And that front facia... wtf was Toyota thinking? It may be the ugliest truck on the road. The Tacoma is still too small and the 2007 - 2021 Tundras are still too big for some. The only drawback of the 2005 - 2006 Tundra is the issue of the timing belt. That just adds additional cost to ownership and inevitable downtime for the required maintenance. And some might say, what's the big deal, it only happens once every 90K mi. or so. But for some of us, it doesn't take much to generate those kinds of miles. Decisions, decisions.
3.5 years later I still agree with my points on this video. 2004-2006 tundra double cabs are an amazing bang for the buck and have still held up remarkably well
i work near a Toyota Dealership, i took my tundra in for the timing belt, they paid for my uber to work and it was ready before i left work. they uber'd me back and i drove home. basically no down time. but yeah i don't work out of my truck like many might. to me, the re-visiting of the motor every 90k miles or so just forces you to keep an even closer eye on the engine and that helps with longevity.
My Taco 08 has 224k miles and I avg. 19.65 mpg just drove it 1000 miles this week cruising at 75 90 mph. Tundra 10 13 mpg bigger more for the bang. 3 rd gen Tacos drive good and smooth vs 2 nd gen. Two completely diffrent trucks Taco n Tundra and uses. As far as mpg on your taco. It's not broken in yet.
I have a 2005 tundra. I bought it in 2015 from the original owner with 37,000 miles on it. It wasn’t even broken in yet. It now has 93,000 miles on it and runs great. I love it.
Get one if u can we have an 06 double cab with tss package, awesome truck love it, only 127k miles on it, thanks to it, it convinced me to get a 2019 doble cab so now we have 2 tundras but i still love driving the 06
You would be surprised. I compared the exterior specs of the current tundra to the first gen(double cab) tundra, and the 1st gen is the same width, and actually about 2 inches longer than the current tundra.
I love the wood in the tundra lol! Just like my 05 Land Cruiser ! Luxurious capable reliable beats! 275,000 miles on my LC. Just getting started. Parents bought it new in 04.
Love this vid! My dad bought a 2006 1st gen when I was in 4th grade. Now that I have my license I get to drive it to school everyday. I can’t go back to driving anything smaller. I wish to buy the truck from my dad and get him a new one once I’m successful in pursuing my career
Love my '04 double cab! No VVTi, and only 4 speed automatic transmission, but it's a great truck! I'm looking at getting a much newer Tundra, but the double cab size sucks, and the crewmax box size sucks. I'll probably end up with a crewmax, but dammit I will sorely miss that extra 6" of box length. I wish they would bring back the first gen double cab proportions. She's perfect! Great video! I would do the same thing, ditch the Tacoma if you're gonna do some towing.
Have a 2006 tundra double cab 4x4 original owner. only issues after 140k miles. . front rotors ,rear axle bearings, power steering leak, driver door latch, alternator replacement. Great truck
All true! I just sold my Tacoma and bought a 2006 Tundra CrewCab, 4x4. the difference is very considerable. so much more comfortable for long trips, which is our main use of it.
Just bought my first gen tundra a couple months ago with relatively low miles (102k when I got it, now 105k). Absolutely love it. Only problem I’ve had is the fuel cap leaking and causing the check engine light to come on every few weeks. Good gas mileage for what it is, and great power. The fact that mine also has dual flow masters from the previous owner (thanks!) is just icing on the cake.
Just picked up a 2006 Double Cab this summer. Awesome truck, single owner who treated it well and was reluctant to part with it. Had to have some work done (it's 16-17 years old) but nothing serious. Looking forward to using it for the future. And in this climate to get it for under $10k was awesome
@Jorge Hetnandez it's doing alright. I live in Northern Michigan and therefore deal with everything that comes with snow. So right now I'm waiting to replace multiple essential parts that have been beaten to hell from snow/rust. But likely this is the last time I'll ever need to do these types of major repairs or at least for a long time depending how long it lasts. Just swapped all the lights for LEDs, replaced the blower motor/fan in the cabin, the fuel tank straps, and some other less critical things.
@@chrisbrunk5541 thanks for the information. This will be my first truck ever. Tomorrow the tundra gets towed to the mechanic since the 98,000 mile used motor also arrives at the shop too. I'm hoping this truck can last me years.
@Jorge Hetnandez I would suggest taking it to a trustworthy shop and asking for an estimate and "used vehicle inspection"/safety inspection to assess what's going on with it, unless of course you're experienced enough to do it yourself. That's what I did and it gave me a general idea of what I needed to do. Who cares if you put new tires on if your brakes are close to death, for example?
I love my 05. I've had it for lil over 6 years now. Mine had 100k miles whenever I bought it, now just shy of 180k and I'm having the typical issues that all of the first gens have. Going have to replace the steering rack very soon, + center support bearing & u joints. I have already done ball joints tie rod ends, suspension etc. I will say lifting & running wheel spacers as I have done causes premature wear to happen. Early summer I had to replace front an rear wheel bearings, that is no fun at all. I wish I would of bought the UCA that help accommodate for the lift I definitely feel like I wouldn't have had parts where as quickly as they did in the front end. End of the day though the truck is awesome I love it and plan on keeping it for many more years to come and hope to see it hit 300,000 miles. Good video dude
Just recently purchased a 2019 4 Cylinder Tacoma and I still love my 2003 V6 tundra better. The bed is great for all my work needs. The tacomas bed can’t really fit anything lol. Planning on selling the Tacoma later down the road and getting another first gen tundra.
The first gen Tundras are such a perfect size and still kinda under the radar. Picked up an 01 Access Cab last year and love the fact that its wider than my Tacoma I had before it. Its shorter than the newer 4 door Tacomas too and still has a 6 foot bed! It was also sooo much cheaper than a Tacoma! Mine had 75,000 miles when I bought it for 9 grand! 4wd too!
That's a killer deal! Yea I believe they are under the radar hardcore...hope the video buildup of mine doesnt blow it! Subscribe if you want to watch the buildup of mine
Just subbed to your channel. I agree with you about the tundra. They are overall well rounded trucks that don’t have all the bells and whistles of an f150 but have the reliability and good value of the Toyota badge
Thanks man!! I wanted a raptor but when I wrote down what i wanted and costs on paper the Tundra made a whole lot of sense. I like modifying/enhancing vehicles so the tundra will be getting some upgrade to make it more modern this year, I'll film it all and post it here 😎
You are spot on man. I sold a 2006 reg cab 4x4 tacoma for $12k (a completely reasonable number considering what else was on the market at the time nation wide). That truck had no options at all other than 4wd. I picked up a 2006 DC limited 4wd tundra for $1500 more. It had a few less miles. I have cruise control, power windows, double the doors and double the cylinders. I went from no options to all the options. Oh and don't hate on the wood grain. I have had it in my 4runner for 14 years. You will grow to love it.
Have a 21 DCLB Tacoma. Recently acquired an 06 Tundra. Tacoma is just going to be sitting around until I finally decide to deal with ridding myself of it.
I have an '06 4Runner sport with 128K on it and that 4.7L V8 is a gem of an engine. It has low end torque that just roars when you step on the gas, but is so quiet at idle I can barely tell it's on. What other 13+ year old vehicle is that quiet at idle? It's a low stress work horse. That Tacoma is gorgeous tho.... nice vid!
I love my 2005 DC 4wd. Bought it new and will keep it until the wheels fall off. Haha. Never had any issues, great reliable truck. Just hit 71k miles.. I take it the mountains for camping, skiing, hauling my family’s stuff. Have a topper that really makes it handy. Okay gas mileage. The truck rides nice- especially with Michelin tires.

What did you hate about the Tacoma? What do like about the Tundra over the Tacoma? Thanks!
@@richarde1355 the plastic bed in the Tacoma makes it feel like a toy. The seats in the Tacoma suck ass and the truck rides like shit on long drives . The 1st gen tundra rides smooth like a Cadillac, comfy seats, feels like a solid truck .

2006 is so nice
Just grabbed an 06 4x4 fully loaded and am so stoked
This video is the reason I just bought a 2004 double cab 4x4 197 000 kms today
Cheers from Toronto!
How much did u buy it for?
Update
Was actually really curious about the old tundras vs the tacomas. Thanks for doing the video, and those tundras look really nice with an after market front bumper.
Oh they sure do! I have 0 need for one, but want one bad just to make it look better
Thats the factory front bumper from the late model first gens. My 06 has the same bumper.
What kind of bumper?
Miss my first gen Tundra. Best truck I ever owned period.
Everything you said is exactly why I have an 06 tundra. On point with your commentary
Thanks man! Subscribe if you want I'll be building mine up
I have a 2011crew cab trd tundra. Planned on getting a 01 but couldnt pass up the newer one and absolutely love it
That Tundra is nice and clean! Congratulations on finding one in that condition and mileage!
my grandpa has an 03 with 75k miles. He lived 2 miles away from his small business and drove less than 5 miles a day
sound like me, now retire my 06 Taundra got 80000mi, Don't drive much put 5k mi per yr.love it so much ,can't let her go yet
Just realized my 2015 nissan has more miles than my grandpas 2005 tundra
I've got a first gen Sequoia - basically the SUV version of your tundra. Hands down the best setup. I've got 35" tires and a lift and it still gets 15mpg.
I've got a 02 sequoia had for 17 years brand new only thing that I've replaced on it was struts and alternator
That's awesome to hear!
Our 2004 tundra has 179,000 original, one owner, us. We changed time belt that’s it. Changed headlights today. Love ours. Will keep forever.
Mm debating between the 2ndgen tacoma and 1st gen tundra. Would you still choose the tundra?
Thats a super cool story! These trucks are tough. Thanks for sharing!
I recently bought a ‘02 Tundra with 148,000 miles and I love it.
Great video, I agree 1st Gen Tundras are awesome for all around use. The 4.7l motor and the A340 transmission are extremely reliable if properly maintained.
I'm trading in my 2019 Tundra for an 06 in January. Thanks for this awesome video. I'm settled on this now
This was the video that convinced me to get a gen 1 tundra. Copped a 2005 Double Cab limited with 80k. During the chip shortage, got it for 23k -_-, but still cheaper than a Tacoma. I’ve been driving it for about 14 months and I’m in love with this truck! The V8 power alone makes it enjoyable to drive
sorry that happen to you
😂😂😂😂
Dang! That's a pile of money for a 2005
@@efaciler2462 yes, it’s a lot of money, but a 2012 Tacoma with 70k miles was going for 38,000 at the time (during chip shortage). And I got it from the dealer. If I were to do it again, I’d go through FB marketplace
@@efaciler2462 it was either that or a 2015 taco for $38,000

I have an 06' Tundra that has criss crossed the country multiple times. Love the first generation Tundra, the new ones, especially the 12', are problem prone. Great vid!!

I have a 2005 tundra access cab and for me it’s the perfect size truck. Back seat is fine for our needs and the bed is big enough for mountain bikes! At the same time the entire truck fits in the garage with a foot to spare! Great trucks and video!
Thanks man! My neighbor has an access cab haha so it will prob be in some of the videos!
I shouldn’t have sold my 2006 TRD Tundra crew cab 😞
What did you buy after selling it?
A kia
Yeah I sold my 2005 TRD Quad cab Tundra.....still regret it. Can't find a clean one now
Yea.. very stupid move on your part
Spoopy Ghost replace the timing belt on time or you could break the engine
I bought a 2002 Tundra, Access, LTD new. I have 162K and it runs fantastic. I had the front seats and armrests re-upholstered due to wear. I had a fuel pump failure (just out of warranty) and that has been the only big problem. I will have this truck as long as I live, no other truck even interests me. And, this truck fits into my garage😁!
Access cab first gen tundras are the best!
I own a 06 Tundra SR5 and it has 4wd and its amazing truck. I have 204,000 miles on it and still runs great and its a pretty good offroader too. The thing im surpise about is the 1st gen tundras are very underrated
Totally! I really like my truck and prefer it over the new Tundras, which is weird to say but true
My 06 dbl cab sr5 is a driveway queen, it only has 83,000 miles on it.
Bought myself a 2006 Tundra SR5 last year with 164K miles and came from California then brought over to Newfoundland Canada, Best feature of the truck is that back window coming down, Best purchased i've made so far!
Tacos are great if you don’t need an actual truck lmao. But I freakin love my tundra. Dope video
Nah
Tundras are sickkk
Never been a fan of Tacomas and the new Tundras are too big. First gen Tundras, imo, are the perfect size.
I mean if you go off roading and towing under 3,500ibs i mean aint bad
It’s an actual truck. Your opinion don’t change straight up facts. Just not made for heavy hauling.
Got an 01 access cab 4x4 SR5. 179k miles zero issues. Looking forward to hundreds of thousands more.
The double cab is a foot longer than the Access cab. I like the size of the AC better and I don't carry people much. I have always preferred a 1G tundra over any Taco though.
The DC is a foot longer BUT the access cab an go up to two feet longer than the DC which means a lot for camper conversion or work truck on the road.
Just bought an 2005 Tundra Limited at a great deal with the leather seats & sunroof with 145k because of this video. I am in love.
Good review, thanks. There must have been a sweet spot for cars in the mid to late 90’s to mid 2000’s; Toyota’s in particular.
I totally agree with you, I have a 2001 with the access cab. It's a perfect sized truck! Great power too.
I have a 2002 Tundra limited and it is my favorite vehicle. The one you have is the exact spec I want for me and my family. The DVD for the kids. Open air. I would want it in green though.
Got a 2004 tundra. Still runs like a champ today. Don't drive it as much anymore but when I do. She purrrrs
I have the same Tundra mine has 70k miles and could not agree more I love the size the power reliability and it has a nice look !
I have said the same thing since I got my 05 Tundra. The perfect true midsized truck
Agreed! Be sure to subscribe I got some good plans for mine
The perfect truck period!!!
Wow, had no idea the back window went down. Pretty cool. I wonder if there are camper shells that seal against the cab making it a pass-thru.
Yup they do I forgot the name of the brand but my pops has one
I have a 2005 Tundra 4.7 v8 4x4 180,000 miles, only had to fix the
A/C. Great Truck
just change the timing belt every 80,000 miles That 4.7L engine can reach million miles easly 👌
Dealer said don't bother. They have never seen a belt failure -- I personally doubt that so I did mine at 120k. Have 210k now.
If my First Gen ever dies I’m just getting another Tundra haha I love it
I'm looking for a first car and the tacoma was the main thing I was looking at.
I have 55k on my 1st Gen 06 Tundra, no rebuilds, cloth interior. Great machine.
I have an 06 double cab tundra v8 4.7 . Love it and it sounds great straight piped! Only have 188000 miles should last a long time.
Wow, that is some useful comparison.
And yes the older Tundras and Sequoias are very robust
I know this video is 3 years old but still helping people like me as I was wondering what truck I could use as a first car/truck at 24 years old. Thanks for the video dude
Thanks man! I feel stronger than ever that 1st gen tundras are the truck to buy 💯
Nice!! I agree Tacomas do have their place, but they aren't the total solution people think they should be
My longbed ford was in a wreck, got totaled. Just picked up an 06 tundra double cab. Very different from what I'm used to but it is such a cool truck

Tundras get better mileage than 10 to 13, lol.
excellent vid man, appreciate it. About to buy a 2006 limited double cab tundra, i'm so much more stoked now!

Nice job man! This is a cool story

Change the fuel filler neck
Just picked up a 2006 Double Cab this summer. Awesome truck, single owner who treated it well and was reluctant to part with it. Had to have some work done (it's 16-17 years old) but nothing serious. Looking forward to using it for the future. And in this climate to get it for under $10k was awesome
Hello. How's your 06 tundra doing? I just bought one today with a bad motor. I plan on buying a new motor tomorrow.
@@chrisbrunk5541 the truck is in good and fair shape. 2500 for the truck. The engine is separate.

I feel the same way with 3rd gen 4runners. They last forever. I have an ‘01 with 250k miles and it still runs as good as the day it came off the lot
I knew a guy that had 450k on his when the head gasket failed. It still ran, and a little head work would make it run again for a lot longer
I'm currently driving my 02 limited tundra, No rust, everything still kickn like it should. I'm leavin it stock. This thing A BEAST!!!
Nice! Love my DC 06’ tundra. Mine came with a bench seat up front. Wish I had that sunroof!
Have a 21 DCLB Tacoma. Recently acquired an 06 Tundra. Tacoma is just going to be sitting around until I finally decide to deal with ridding myself of it.
Lots of really good points, but I just couldn’t part with my Tacoma. Especially with the manual trans option
Colby Davis Well I was really only talking about newer trucks, plus if I would get a tundra I would want that v8
The Tacoma with the 4.0 was bulletproof and looks better than the 1st gen tundra
Only thing is the Tacoma interior is a lot smaller.

That Tacoma is gorgeous tho.... nice vid!
Thanks!! Be sure to subscribe I'll be building my Tundra up here shortly!
I have a 3rd gen tundra and I’d love to get my hands on a 1st gen.
There is no 3rd gen Tundra, at least not available yet
I love my 2005 DC 4wd. Bought it new and will keep it until the wheels fall off. Haha. Never had any issues, great reliable truck. Just hit 71k miles.. I take it the mountains for camping, skiing, hauling my family’s stuff. Have a topper that really makes it handy. Okay gas mileage. The truck rides nice- especially with Michelin tires.
