Honestly what I've been really loving is the sound of SSL DeEss and maybe also pro-ds somewhere later in the chain on broad with a touch of db's above any other deesseers for vocals. I've tried T-DE-Ess, M-DE-Ess, all kinds of multibands, weiss, sonible, izotope... It probably takes great effort to make a desser, surely it takes even greater effort to make it carve out just enough and not kill the sound or have the controls where with a slight nudge either the effect is audble and too severe. Way too often it's either too much ducking or artifacting.
I tried it and the deeser is changing the tone A LOT to darker - and the plosives are not much fixed. Dont recommend it using AI - it needs to be adressed separately and manually when needed.
You must wash your mics quite regularly after Polish users. 🤣🤣🤣 Smart De Ess is amazing. It and Smart Gate I demo'd for about ten minutes and then bought. They just work, straight out of the box and work brilliantly with a bit of tweaking. Fabfilter Pro DS is good, probably the best, until now. There's a new kid in town. Cheaper, faster workflow, better. NAYS

I can't stand the "paper ripping" sounds of essess (happens with headsets, close proximity, overdriven, poor quality microphones and sometimes over compression/saturation). The problem is those tones are 2k and lower. If you roll off everything under 2k it goes away. The problem is deessers don't go down that low and it bothers me so much. I have ways to get around it manually but I don't want to lol. Try it. It doesn't replace a deesser, it just can make some essess sweeter.
