Hi! Im an artist from Chile, and it's so cool seeing this project get international recognition!
When I was in Art school I went to see the Casa Lobo in real life! I was in there during the making of the movie!
The creators had a project where they would move the whole set of the house while recording the movie around different museums and community centers in Santiago (Chile's capital). Since a lot of the movie happens inside the home itself it didn't mattered much that the outside of the set wasn't the same always.
So a bunch of art students from different universities and specialities were invited to meet Casa Lobo itself.
I remember there was a whole exposition about the context and process of the story and only one rule: Don't touch anything. Since they were still recording (aka taking the stop motion pictures) and we could mess up the continuity of the takes.
    HOW COOL IS THAT!?
Casa Lobo was such an important project, Im happy i was able to see it happen 💖

Looking for background information on it the next day was unpleasant, but felt important, as these topics generally are. I'm glad you put in the work to understand and explain that context in such a clear and digestible manner all throughout the story. This movie is a great piece of art both in storytelling and animation, and definitely deserves it!

    Theres a Bible story haunts me. I might have some details wrong, but;
A man has two sons. One of them is great, one of them sucks. He demands his inheritance early, squanders it, and ends up living in a pig pen. He gets pennies a day from the owner to take care of the pigs, living off of the same slops in the mud, living like a pig, fighting them for scraps.
He returns home, desperate, ashamed, and his father rejoices. Slaughters his best goat for a feast. Has a big party, celebrating his sons return.
The good son is mad, feels cheated, but the father rejoices that his prodigal son has returned.
That Maria ends up living with pigs who want to eat her because theyre fighting for the same scraps feels related, especially considering that Jesus was called a shepherd. And then she prays for the wolf, who she now sees as a german shepherd, to save her. She returns to her family's control, because she isnt equipped to survive out here.
They want her back, and they want her broken when she comes back. Ashamed. Repentant. Grateful for the punishment they doled out.
Whenever things get desperate, i remember that theyre waiting for this tale to manifest, and im disgusted to my core. They imprinted this story on me, making sure i knew, at a young age, that the world would destroy me. That i might think i can handle it, but i can't. That theyre waiting for me to fail with open arms. They see this as love, sculpted like maria was, sculpting me the same way.
It disgusts me enough to fight the storys message, despite how ingrained in my psyche it is.
I'd rather die with the pigs.

I'm not surprised that some people tell you the story that way. So many people like to twist messages of Bible stories to fit whatever works for them.
It's tragic because the true message of the story is supposed to be the opposite. It's not that the prodigal son deserved to be punished, it's supposed to be about loving those who return to the Christian community with open eyes: not judging their past choices. It's supposed to be a message to the family to be happy they returned alive and healthy.

Bro i live in Chile and i’m so confused now. OK so this is my expectations, creepy movie, talking about the historical facts about Chile that is misunderstanding ( terrifying)
OK, this is me after watching the résumé😮 honestly this is going to freak me out for the whole week😅 but I think the most interesting part about every emotion that I had the main one was curiosity, because these things are normally happened so far away from me so knowing this place might still be up just a few miles away from me is so interesting😮‍💨 but wow, I was so surprised knowing that there was cults like this poor Maria honestly😢 it gives a great message to watch your back in a perspective that leaves you reflecting! 9/10 cuz it was soooooooooo crepy

I just watched this movie at the end of September, the animation is incredible, the sound design of crinkly almost insect like crawling as the paper mache dolls grow and melt and reform is so unsettling. Really amazing movie. At first I thought it was about colonialism but then I watched a documentary about colonia dignidad and realized what was happening more. But I didn't fully understand till I watched this. Thanks!

So, I was confused, watching this video, whether the film was actually made by the cult. It makes so much more sense once I confirmed that it is not. It's a film pretending to be that, in order to make its points and tell its story better.
That said, I felt a bit of de-ja-vu about the creepy hand-made visuals and internal message of "the film", (the one "made" by the cult) that being, "Even if you escape, you will struggle and realize it's better here." It strongly echoes some of the leaked North Korean propaganda, targeted at children. Sometimes, there's a contrasting character who doesn't "screw up" and come back with their tail between their legs, but that prodigal son-type character seems to be pretty common. It's likely supposed to be about both defecting and the nation of South Korea/Korea, but it definitely walks a weird line of there being other people and places out there, but "Oh no! Turns out, they're all super evil and in the end, you'll beg to come back to the land of the god-king." (Hey! Maybe you'll see your starving family at a work camp one last time before you're executed...)
It's really sad to think about how dark things have to be for this to serve as an effective strategy. These people are so committed to doing harm that the propaganda they come up with assumes their victims will want to escape, turning instead to instilling a sense of futility.

Btw thanks for this vid its really nice and I wanted to watch this movie for a long time but I just never got to it cause yeah. And I think its from the same guy who made Mad God. I would suggest making video on Mad God but tbh that film is literally pointless although it looks cool asf lol

The person who did horrible things to me when I was 6 or 7 years old is also still free. Not too far from me even. There was no justice, allthough thankfully I've never ran into "it". I think it's due to "it" being in very very bad both physical and mental shape, thank goodness.
