Concerning Ducks immediate acceptance, I don’t think he actually knew what death was at all. He said “I always knew I deserved to be dead” because he assumed it was a positive thing, and he’s just running his ego, pretending he knew what death was. I think it fits his character well, and it explains his behavior when he’s actually dead being very not dead, not understanding at all how death works.
@@waterwaveybaby I also believe they don’t understand the concept of being alive or dead. In the ‘friends’ episode when ask by the Dr. if Yellow Guy was breathing they were confused as to what breathing even is.
@@amissamente that might just be because they're puppets. they clearly understand death by Transport when the train kicks the bucket and Duck declares his death
Well, he hates his situation in the first place. And as we see later, Duck is part of his resentment. No doubt he feels ambivalent at losing an old housemate who also happened to be an annoying, boasting, ol' pesky bug.
I think he's just given up. He's a pessimist to Yellow's optimist and Duck's realist, and with all the torment they all go through, he tries to remove himself from reality as much as possible, until he finally breaks in episode 5 and tries to escape.
I just realized, the reason that duck thought Red was his best friend was probably because he was duck’s favorite color And Yellow guy probably missed duck the most because his favorite color was green
Does this mean that red doesnt really like either of them? His favorite color is blue, which isnt the color of either duck nor yellow. But i feel like that creativity dialogue doesnt really have to do with this, as many things from the older youtube show is different, and more like a full-series pilot if anything. This must just be a coincidence, as theres only so many colors, yknow?
The mourners appearing out of nowhere and being overbearingly sentimental with you despite not seeming to know you or the deceased very well is such a real thing. You can tell that someone on this show really went through something like that. Doctors and nurses in the US call it "Daughter from California Syndrome," because distant relatives of that kind often swoop in and get really bossy with local relatives to attempt to make up for lost time.
I've been taken to funerals for people I've never known. I felt so out of place. Talked to my therapist and he told me that "Funerals are for the living". Explained that being there, being supportive, listening and just being THERE with them helps. I've never felt out of place after that. People love sharing memories with someone. Because, like the episode implies, we are never truly dead until we're forgotten. The episode absolutely shows the 'daughter from California' thing! What a clever way to put it! Lol
@@juicebox7372 i hope that for my funeral its more of a celebration of my life instead of just a day where people wear no colors and cry over me being dead
Yeah I don’t think it’s a coincidence that the military is mentioned a few times throughout this episode (twice in the memories song, as well as the photo of duck flying the plane) would explain a lot
On a seperate note, in the first episode when he grabs the megaphone his immediate words are a commanding "attention freaks," which gave me instant memories of my time in a militaristic boot camp
About which Duck died, in the 6th episode they reference Stain with Duck saying: "The one who turned into me" so, I think it's pretty safe to assume the real duck killed the fake.
Duck did actually die in the 2nd episode because you can see the worms coming out of his dead body, but as you see in the transport and electricity episode, Lesley resets everything and everyone after every episode
@@Aqalad2781 They do reset every episode but episode 6 was a pretty safe bet that the fake Duck was killed. The maggots could have come from the shovel.
@@Aqalad2781 earlier in the episode, the coffin cuts Duck's finger off only for it to shoot air While yellow tries to do it with himself and ended up bleeding. So that's more of a clue that maybe Stain was killed by Duck
I find it interesting how Coffin is one of the only few teachers, if not the Only teacher, who actually tried to help the trio. Most of the time the teachers have ulterior motives (i.e, the creepy ass twins from episode 3 or the worm from episode 4) or spiral away/misrepresents the lesson being taught in a way that's just terrifying (i.e, the notebook from the original dhmis or Colin the computer from dhmis 4). But Coffin actually... tries to teach them about death. He's doing his job as a teacher and he's trying to do it correctly? It's not his fault that Duck doesn't understand and is annoying as fuck, nor does he have any control over the grieving process. His job is to bury the dead and teach the trio about death. Which he actually does, and doesn't traumatize or murder the trio in the process (i.e., dhmis 5 or the briefcase from episode 1). This entire series can be described as 'something different' but this episode especially is something different. In the chaos that is the tv series, this episode stands out the most to me.
i feel like the grieving process is such a huge and complicated thing to go through. including a teacher that tries to harm or control them would really steer away from that idea, so i feel like coffin being friendlier than the rest was a really smart decision that allowed a deeper look into the characters and their emotions, showing just how painful it can be ion its own to lose a loved one. the death episode really is one of my favorites for how well it tackles the subject (next to transport maybe, which i love for an entirely different reason)
Yeah, his most sinister moment is him crooking Yellow's nose saying "It's you, isn't it? ". That and rising up out of the floorboards with the blood of duck's disintegrated heart.
Yeah I thought i’d talk about it in my vid on the finale where I’ll go into more of the theories once all the context is there, but i like that scene more every time I watch it
I think old duck killed new duck. Duck is pretty cruel in this series, meanwhile the replacament they tried for Duck, doesn't do any harm to others, so, most likely, Old Duck killed the "New" one. Her personality didn't seem change when it turned to duck, she even said to red guy that he might have some issues to work with, and felt uncofortable. She reappears in the last episode of the series, being electrocuted by duck in the second floor, and in the scene yellow was walking towards the stairs, red guy and duck were talking with small volume about what they were doing in the second floor. I think the one who survived is definetly old duck.
I mean if stain did survive i would personally include that part in the series more, like having short clips of them changing back to their old self when no ones around
@@cuntmaster That is a visual inconsistent, a visual continuity error, which is something very normal in any show/cartoon/movie etc... meanwhile, stain being the new duck, would be a story continuity error, which is much worse than a visual one. so, if you think what happens in visuals is more important, fair enough, it's fair if you believe that stain killed duck, but to me, what matters more, it's context, and what makes sense to the story, and there's a huge amount of evidence story-wise, that points that old duck survived.
@@chloe8484 It is confirmed that it is stain. if you pay attention on what duck and red say while yellow is looking to the stairs, duck talks about what they are doing in the other floors, and how the thing being electrocuted is stain. one of the many hidden details of dhmis.
As a funeral worker I very much connect with the sentient Coffin, death just does become casual when you're constantly exposed to it. The soft tone and even speaking manner very much reminded me of myself and my coworkers talking to customers
My only complaint is that you referred to Stain Edwards the Forever Boy as Pink throughout the episode. I really like his creative name he made for himself and i think its notable that he is the only named character to be part of the group even if for a short time.
Yeah that’s my bad I just assumed it was a throwaway line since Becky Sloan, one of the shows creators voices the character, so kind of threw me off, but yeah I think the name is a good sign that Stain has more of an identity than any of the trio, and seems to actually think for himself
@HeyaMaya Is that really an issue though? I always thought of stain as a genderless thing, there doesn't seem to be an obvious answer to Stain's gender, so EVERY pronoun is wrong in its own special way.
@@cockthesheep3051 this is my personal favorite interpretation-- stain keeps morphing and changing shape (until red guy does what he does at least) so i doubt gender means much to them they're literally just vibing
Now that I think of how Red and Duck seemingly don't understand death, perhaps it's a poke at how adults (as opposed to the Childlike Yellow) are "supposed" to understand what Death is, but frequently don't actually. Death to an adult is just a concept that they've grown to accept without understanding, Death is just over there just as terrifying and mysterious as it was as a child, but now you have a job and bills to pay and can't spend all day worrying about the final end. So when Death finally starts happening around you, or *to* you, now you have to think about this thing you've spent so very little time considering.
I think the more morbid title is fitting for this episode considering this is really the only episode with an inherently morbid topic but is surprisingly quite friendly and inoffensive aside from certain scenes like the formation of the coffin, which seems to be somewhat of a red herring trying to trick the audience into believing we're in for a scare when really we aren't which is made clear when a rather normal looking coffin springs from a messy pool of blood. The teacher too was surprisingly for the most part quite friendly and even helpful, he barely got wound up by Duck's constant annoyance. It's clear that the writers made a conscious decision to make the episode with the most outwardly disturbing theme the least offensive and frightening.
it's also cool to think about the opposite side of the spectrum when it comes to this show. the family episode has a really creepy environment and all of the characters act extremely "off", but the topic of family in a kids show is never shown as something disturbing or negative. and yknow what,, the twins specifically have a lot of contrast to the coffin now that i think about it. while the coffin does his best to be friendly and guiding, the twins lash out more often at the trio, talk down to how they perceive the idea of a family, and even split them up so they can use yellow for their own personal gain.
Remember the original duck got his finger cut off and there was smoke coming out of the wound. The whole episode you get the feeling he wasn't supposed to be the one dieing, so the duck who got killed must be the claymation thing because it was very bloody.
I think the creators knew what they were doing in making it difficult to figure out. Duck is shown to not be able to bleed but is shown to have maggots on him in the coffin. Meanwhile Stain Edwards, as far as we know, is capable of bleeding because they're not dead. However, we have no reason to believe S.E has maggots.
When Yellow started to sob after going on about how everything’s different and how they don’t talk about Duck anymore made me genuinely want to go and give him a big hug 😢 I know he’s just a puppet, but he gets me in the feels every time.
The old duck def killed the new one. Duck is a complete egotistical sociopath, and Stain Edwards would never kill anything, even when superficially changed into a new version of the duck. Plus, the dead duck bleeds, and since the coffin cut off Duck's finger in the episode, we know that (at least in that episode), Duck doesn't bleed or feel pain.
One thing I noticed was the skip over yellow’s trumpet solo. While at first it seems like a gag of some sorts, it represents someone who really knew the person who is dead, as they express what they truly feel. This is explained when after the coffin cuts him off, red says: “I actually quite liked that”. Just a minor thing, but the video was spectacular!
It’s interesting to see how you’re focusing on the Red Guy’s general apathy throughout the first two episodes considering his rather more vested interest in what’s going on in the third episode (the Family episode). I’m curious about what you’re going to say for that one 🤔
Yeah I think reds the most unique and fascinating character in the third and fifth episodes especially because it’s clear he doesn’t quite fit in as much as the other 2 and those episodes explore his mindset more
I think he might be a subtle example of autistic representation. The lack of empathy and subtle concern every once in awhile definitely make me think this. Red guy also seems to have a lot of trouble with tone and asks a lot of questions that usually go unanswered.
There is a saying, that the opposite of love is not hatred; it's apathy. Red strikes me as someone who is resentful of his present situation, and he plays this out with his apathy - until something he likes or at least is different shows up to make him interested. He hates his situation so much that he just gives up and goes limp, like a toddler who doesn't want to be put in his car seat (if that toddler doesn't just scream and cry). It is strange how he ends up just plastering over Pink's personality with Duck, though.
I feel like this episode represents Lesley's dissociation, her inability to process what death means. It's very common for people not to be able to come to terms with the fact that someone is gone forever. Death being completely misunderstood by the characters seems to me to represent this numbness and confusion after the initial shock and the consequent inability to start to understand or accept it.
When I watched it I always felt like it was based off of one of the creators experiences when they were young. The episode feels very familiar to a few funerals I went to when I was a kid, and seeing yellow and red be confused about what's going on while surrounded by a bunch of big people they don't know really reminded me of me and my siblings at a funeral. I think it encapsulates what it's like to be a kid at a funeral incredibly well.
Especially the kitchen scene. People you don't know sitting around talking about someone you thought you knew well, and having the vague feeling you SHOULD be sad but you really feel like crying or anything you're just confused.
While watching I was convinced that Pink killed the old Duck since you can actually see some maggots on the frame that shows the dead Duck and if we recall his scenes with Coffin, he did have maggots in there already so it kind of checks out, plus its a bit funny since in the end he really did die like the newspaper said he would.
It's just not in character with the still underdeveloped Pink. Also, while there were maggots, yes, there weren't any on either of their knees, so that's not as definitive as it might seem, since that's where the maggots originally were. And while it would seem the newspaper was foretelling Duck's death, we have reason to believe it was someone else who looked like Duck who was named David. Not least because very clearly Duck was still alive. Obviously. But also because those weren't his memories, those weren't his family or friends, and that wasn't his gravestone. Finally, someone else pointed out that Pink does exist later, in episode 6 - she's the little lumpy one. In the "Bigger Boys Room".
actually no we see stain in episode six, and i think old duck killed stain, but then how is it alive in episode six? i have an explanation: So we know Stain can morph and change into whatever it wants, and we know that Red Guy turned her into duck, darkening up it’s personality. But it still remained an essence of innocence, meaning that it wouldn’t do something extreme like murdering someone and finding it normal. So we can realize that Duck (who still has his ego and personality), “killed” Stain. But you see, Stain didn’t die. How? Its simple, Stain was still able morph even after becoming a clone of Duck, meaning that after it “died”, when everyone walked away or something, Stain morphed itself back into Stain, and then it started to fear the others, especially Duck, because he tried to kill it. It realized this because of the innocence becoming less. So then it was hiding under the table or chair while everyone else was sitting down talking, it wanted to explore, it didn’t want to hide. So it noticed the staircase, and slowly walked upstairs, hoping nobody would notice, then, it found the Big Boys Room. It extended it’s arm reaching out to open the door, and saw the big boys. They greeted her and they might have had a little chat and chilled for a while, then Stain left. It noticed the next flight of stairs and climbed up to the Bigger Boys Room, which would be it’s end. As once it opened the door, Futuristic Red Guy and Futuristic Duck saw it, and unlike the big boys, they got it and put it on the table. Then they trapped it inside, begging them to let it go, but they hooked up wires and stared experimenting, leading to Stain’s appearance in episode 6. It forgot how to talk, it was deformed massively, it was screaming, it just wanted out. And the thing is, Stain found them in the essence of episode 2, so basically, it was being tortured for 4 episodes. And maybe Red Guy and Duck heard the screaming, and somehow knew exactly what was happening up there, but never really bothered to check or do something about it. Which would be why they knew about it. and the reason Yellow guy didn’t know was probably because he was in another room or just didn’t hear it.
I just really want to say, cause its my favorite moment of the whole show, the coffin coming out of the floorboards animation is a reference to Hellraiser and i just love it so much
Perhaps of the coffin puppet spawning from the heart’s gore and blood alludes to the larger idea of there being something dreadful and sinister below the initial, cheery puppets in the show
i believe that Stain is supposed to kind of represent Leslie literally creating a new Duck figurine coz they are all made of clay...also Stain is the one being experimented on in the last episode so the real Duck is the one that lived
I’ll never get over the line “We’re already in loads of debt” :c Bc in the last episode it’s revealed that while Red and Duck don’t know what a bill or living expenses are, Yellow does. So basically Yellow is the one balancing the cheque book
Activities such as cooking and putting out comforting food IS something you do to prepare for a funeral (at least in the US) so for once the disturbing going off the rails of what’s expected, though still in a jarring tone, is stuff we actually do. It emphasizes that it’s not just their world that’s kinda fucked up, it’s ours too
Yellow guy's delayed reaction in realizing that Duck is gone and not coming back is such a natural and great way of representing grief. Children often don't understand it, but even adults struggle with acceptance and moving on even if they think they know better. Red's reaction seems like apathy at first, but his own inability to process grief and him trying to substitute his needs are also a very realistic depiction of grief.
I feel like this whole episode is the tonal opposite of all the others (and of the original RUclips series of videos) in that instead of light-hearted things turning creepy, creepy things turn light-hearted. So a bunch of dark moments and topics are turned into jokes. Throughout the whole episode, Duck treats being dead as a fun activity and then as just an inconvenience. Most episodes are things taught in a kids' show but made realistic. Whereas this one is a very real subject but it uses kids' show logic.
I love how the puppeteer slumped yellow down like how a depressed person, like me, would be when having a huge loss. Also yellow rejecting the make a friend catalog because that's how everyone feels like. They don't want to replace that spot to respect them until they move on from the loss.
i swear, its like you take DHMIS into a new, different light and level of analysis that’s super fluid to follow. was super excited to see this new upload.
Howdy, Thanks for watching! So I reused the intro from my previous vid but shortened it as I feel it would be confusing if you hadn’t seen part 1, but yeh lmk if I should try switch it up a little for the next one, stay creative 💚 (edit: also my reasoning for referring to Stain Edwards as she/her is because one of the shows creators Becky Sloan voiced the character, and her voice really comes through towards the end, but yeah kind of a goof since online it says the gender is male and ofc the name is Stain Edwards, gonna take a bit more time for the next one to make sure everything’s correct)
Stain Edwards is my favorite character because it’s an optimistic character like a character from an actual kids show in the dark gruesome world of Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared
So, my family actually treats death in a very healthy way. We do treat it like a celebration of life, we bake and make food for the family, we get flowers for the memorial service, we find pictures of their life, make a sideshow, and play really the deceased preferred music.
This is my favorite episode. My grandmom died in the summer of 2018 and the memories song hits me pretty personally. I recently found memories of her that I thought were long buried from when I was younger.
what i really love about the tv show atleast for season 1 is that they actually do teach and show of what the title says like a kid show but in a more mature way in the "death" ep they actually show a lot of different themes around death same with all the others its genius.
23:33 well shit, i didn't expect to relate so hard to a funky little claymation blob but i really do love that you're analyzing the episodes one by one, there's so much stuff to discover in all of them that every episode really does deserve special attention imho. keep up the good work! 💕
I feel like I’m probably the only one who liked the mourners introduction into the ep. The lighting, color usage, design, all of it I find extremely comforting, and kinda makes me think of the kids shows I used to watch and books I used to read at that time. Like olivia, the stinky cheese man, and even telletubbies.
i haven't even thought about the shepherd's pie being ducks insides omfg that's horrific but makes sense since they put emphasis on the pie being made of FRESH minced beef. jesus.
tbh, if Yellow's name was david he would have said so on a "but, but that is my name" tone. This is one of my favorite episodes along with friendship because they show the main trio as friends with up and downs, they like it or not by calling each other "the other guy", separating during adventures, beating themselves up in violence or tolerating each other.
Yellow gets quite relatable for me in this one. I had a very dysfunctional relationship with my dad who was verbally abusive, but that didn't make his passing any easier. If anything, it made it worse because of all the unresolved baggage left behind.
Really enjoyed this analysis! Honestly it took a few watches for this episode to really settle in and hit home for me, because as I went from "eugh ew creepy clay thing" to getting to know and understand "Stain", I realized I actually really relate to Red guy's form of grieving. Seeming unaffected on the surface, but secretly really wanting to get back who I lost and trying to replace them somehow. Although a hamster is obviously not the same as a person, it really made me look at myself for a moment, as I've had my current hamster for half a year and I still tend to get sad that she doesn't act the way my previous hamster does and try to mould her to be more social and cuddly when that just isn't her. In some ways it applies to my human connections too and it's a good thing to be aware of so I can try to accept things for what they are more. :]
I think which duck was killed was the pink one, Earlier in the episode, Mr coffin explains how someone can tell if someone is dead by cutting off Duck's finger, which puffs smoke while Yellow bled when he did it. Seeing that the Duck that was killed was bleeding blood, it’s very likely that Pink was killed
I'm pretty sure the real duck is the one to kill clay, reasoning being that duck states he has his organs removed, and when his hand is cut off it releases smoke and no blood, whilst the duck corpse at the end is clearly shown with organs and blood.
In the previous episode, the Care Hound was born with a mutation known as "Peppa Pig Eyes" where he has 4 eyes but only 2 are seen on each side. The new super-race known as The Council is watching
One problem: Duck seemed to have his organs AND blood removed. The dead duck had a large puddle of blood around him. I doubt that there would have been as much blood of the original WAS the one that died. In episode 6, Duck even mentions a blob that transformed into him. This is a memory that I doubt that Stain Edwards would have had. In Episode 4, Duck is taking control of the mouse while using Colin on Computer Day, and he says that it won't escape like "last time". If this was Stain Edwards disguised as Duck, he couldn't have POSSIBLY had this memory as he only became sentient after being thrown at a wall. And there is all the evidence I have gathered that the original Duck was the one that killed Stain Edwards. Any questions?
I cant stop thinking about that in david’s dream we see that in reality duck was red’s dog so the tournament line may refer to some dog turnamnet i dunno
I dont know why the idea of the duck we get is the pink clay? One, duck has no blood as when the coffin cuts his finger he has smoke, and when he shows off him having no organs before getting buried he didn't have blood. Pink is too nice and wouldn't kill someone AND that death scene has BLOOD. Between episodes I can see being replaced but right after being dug up? And also pink would have no reference of what is normal and when duck kills pink it's because it doesn't feel right ("no, there's only 3 of us") as if he forgot they said just moments before that there could be 4 of them or as if he decided it didn't "feel right" meaning he knows its supposed to be 3, which pink wouldn't because he's only done it once
I've been wanting a series breaking down every second of these episodes because there is so much careful thought, effort, and hard work put into every frame. Secrets, hidden details, easter eggs, subtle clues, storytelling devices, etc. that I always felt got ignored or forgotten. I'm highly enjoying these videos that rehash every little part of the story bit by bit from the music, to the character design, to the camera angles, etc. Really amazing stuff. I'd also like to mention that while the main focus of this episode is dealing with grief, I think it's also a meta commentary on how TV Shows will try to replace the actors who play certain characters, but it just doesn't feel right. It doesn't feel the same and ends uo just being offputting. Like when they tried to replace Aunt Vivian in Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air. Maybe not, but that's just my take on it. Also also, As much as I would love it if Stain Edwards was still alive, I don't think it's in his personality to kill Duck. That;s more of a Duck thing to do, especially by the way he talks. That manner of speech is just a Duck thing. To be honest, I never really thought about it until now, but I do see why having it be Duck who was killed makes more sense because why would the clay have blood and whatnot, and it would also go along with the fact that through the entire episode, death was treated as a joke, but now Duck would ACTUALLY be dead. Definitely gonna have to keep that one in the back of my brain for future episodes. Side Note: Stain Edwards is a boy not a girl. He mentions that his name would be Stain Edwards, The Adventure BOY. And the Wiki also addresses him as a male.
One detail you missed is that with the wallet, Duck ID card has crosses on it's eyes to show Duck is dead. Also, in the episode Family, when Duck pulls out the wallet to get the family photos, his card still has crosses, implying he's still dead.
I think it was duck who killed the replacement because that way he looked at pink was as if he was like he was angry at pink and as if he didn't want pink there
I think it’s very telling that the episode on the darkest topic was by far the funniest. I think the creators wanted to make a point of death just being another transition. With duck even returning as a type of reincarnation.
Strangely enough, DHMIS came out whilst I was out of town for a funeral. I watched the first few episodes while I was out there, and.. Believe it or not, I watched this episode right after the service. The mourners were scarily accurate and the whole episode in general helped me tremendously in coming to terms with it all. It might sound insensitive or weird or something, but... It's comforting to see a piece of media portray death in such a different way.
I think red guy just has rotting teeth because he’s British Also I don’t think the old duck was killed, as he was shown throughout the episode to no longer bleed or have organs. It’s dhmis tho, so I wouldn’t be surprised if it was the doppelgänger
Been a fan sense the smiling friends video/ 500 subs!!! I’ve enjoyed the DHMIS series so far. Thank you for the awesome content :) don’t give up you got a real talent.
This episode kinda reminds me of that five nights at Freddy's story called count the ways where a girl called millie crawls into an animatronic (Funtime Freddy) and then gets trapped.
ok but i was too focus laughting at the goofiness of the song, and i swear i got goosebumps when i realized , oh shit, they really don't know what dying actually is, yellow guy is in denial cause, like a child, doesnt get "why i dont see them around anymore"
I'm willing to argue that the party prep is accurate, at least in so far as the history of funeral practices! Grief casserole, or other well-heating high calory foods(like margarine soaked mince-pie) can make up a majority of a family's meals during these times, thought its pretty strange that they're the ones making it. Candies & cookies are actually something you can end up having during a funeral, or during live wakes, like the ones that happen during the last days when a loved one is in hospice.
I feel like the yellow we know is doi and David is smart yellow. Or because the original is framed as a show within a show doi could be the name of the character in the show in the web series and the TV show version is David. But it's probably the first one
I always just thought this was a metaphor for a friend going to university or getting married and leaving the friend group. I kind of still think that.
I can't help but wonder if the bell dinging even while he's already buried was a reference to people being buried when they weren't sure if they were dead or not so they tied a string to their finger that attached to a surface bell they could ring if they woke up, to let someone know they're alive
I think the name David on the gravestone was a foreshadow of the master puppets original sons name whose possibly dead, Thats why yellow guy is her favorite, he represents him though not quite.
this is my favorite episode honestly, because it's the episode that best showcases the qualities of the show that DON'T necessarily relate to creeping the fuck out of you. it is EXTREMELY funny.
Somehow, this was actually the least creepy episode to me just because of how comedic they made the subject matter, but on that note it was absolutely the funniest so it more than made up for that.
There’s soo many set pieces in this episode that only show up for like 3 seconds.I wonder if this took time off production or if it was just odd jobs they gave the set design team while they worked on other stuff.
I've literally watched this 3 times as I'm not doing very well health wise and this is oddly comforting 😂 I'm not afraid of death by any means but I love the thin line between horror/ comedy/ reality and it made me feel better!
Yeah that’s a good point, especially with his ego, like when he kills the toast in episode 3 because mumma toast rejects him

And Yellow guy probably missed duck the most because his favorite color was green
How have I never realized that?
And Red refers to the others as "things" and wants to get away from them bc neither of them are his favorite color, blue.
Does this mean that red doesnt really like either of them? His favorite color is blue, which isnt the color of either duck nor yellow.

My God this series is brilliant
Lol
@@angelface925 Funerals, like weddings, can easily become focused on the wrong people. Watch out for Mournzillas.

i always loved the theory that Duck was in the military and that his personality could be a result of PTSD or something
Yeah I don’t think it’s a coincidence that the military is mentioned a few times throughout this episode (twice in the memories song, as well as the photo of duck flying the plane) would explain a lot

@@Aqalad2781 earlier in the episode, the coffin cuts Duck's finger off only for it to shoot air

@@Aqalad2781 Well he died but wasn't killed.
". That and rising up out of the floorboards with the blood of duck's disintegrated heart.

holy hot fucking hell little yellow david died and he is living this whole series for us as judgement before passing on fully booom
i thought it was meant to be a bit about religions trying to explain death, and just ending up creating more questions than answers
I mean if stain did survive i would personally include that part in the series more, like having short clips of them changing back to their old self when no ones around
the close up of ducks head being chopped off shows maggots, stain killed duck. since as u saw in the episode duck was the one rotting away
@@cuntmaster That is a visual inconsistent, a visual continuity error, which is something very normal in any show/cartoon/movie etc... meanwhile, stain being the new duck, would be a story continuity error, which is much worse than a visual one. so, if you think what happens in visuals is more important, fair enough, it's fair if you believe that stain killed duck, but to me, what matters more, it's context, and what makes sense to the story, and there's a huge amount of evidence story-wise, that points that old duck survived.
oh god i never thought abt the possibility that the experiment was actually stain :( poor guy
@@chloe8484 It is confirmed that it is stain. if you pay attention on what duck and red say while yellow is looking to the stairs, duck talks about what they are doing in the other floors, and how the thing being electrocuted is stain. one of the many hidden details of dhmis.
I like how Coffin "closes" his eyes by rolling them to the back of his head, like how people usually do when they die.

On the other hand, "Memories" is arguably the most disturbing song in the show, despite being toned down by its funny bits
it's also cool to think about the opposite side of the spectrum when it comes to this show. the family episode has a really creepy environment and all of the characters act extremely "off", but the topic of family in a kids show is never shown as something disturbing or negative. and yknow what,, the twins specifically have a lot of contrast to the coffin now that i think about it. while the coffin does his best to be friendly and guiding, the twins lash out more often at the trio, talk down to how they perceive the idea of a family, and even split them up so they can use yellow for their own personal gain.
The coffin is interesting they seem nice but don't actually properly explain death
@@wiktoriarynkun3673I found it very sad, rather than disturbing.
Remember the original duck got his finger cut off and there was smoke coming out of the wound. The whole episode you get the feeling he wasn't supposed to be the one dieing, so the duck who got killed must be the claymation thing because it was very bloody.
I've heard someone else say the opposite! About how the new duck killed old one cuz the old one had organs but yours makes more sense.
@@Hatsune-Miku_Fan But the old one get his organs removed didn't he?
He was strangely passionate in Transport.
@@kellywalker1664 Yeah cause he wanted to escape his reality
Maybe he is also feels guilt for the death of hundreds of people because of his forged documents. I guess he uses the shredder to get rid of those.
It's just the worm in his brain telling him that
When I watched it I always felt like it was based off of one of the creators experiences when they were young.
I like how you can notice that Duck’s voice is no longer in the song by the time they get to the “shepherds pie” part at the end
Yeah i would hope stain comes back if that's the case
but if real duck got killed, there'd be smoke, and plus, he got his insides removed, remember?
@@strangefishman7635 If he got his brain removed, he'd ACTUALLY be dead.

sorry for being a nerd, but I want to point out that in episode 3 duck starts a song after brutally murdering the little bread guy.
Yeah I done goofed and missed this 😅 my bad
Not just a little bread guy. He brutally murdered a bread kid then started to sing
I feel like stain (the pink thing) killed duck but everything was reset the next episode so stain never existed and duck never really even died
actually no we see stain in episode six, and i think old duck killed stain, but then how is it alive in episode six? i have an explanation:
So we know Stain can morph and change into whatever it wants, and we know that Red Guy turned her into duck, darkening up it’s personality.
I like how the coffin is probably one of the most educational teacher who doesn't put there students in a dangerous situation like the others
I just really want to say, cause its my favorite moment of the whole show, the coffin coming out of the floorboards animation is a reference to Hellraiser and i just love it so much
Perhaps of the coffin puppet spawning from the heart’s gore and blood alludes to the larger idea of there being something dreadful and sinister below the initial, cheery puppets in the show
oh that scene is actually referencing a similar clip from Hellraiser
@@F1areon oh lmao
i believe that Stain is supposed to kind of represent Leslie literally creating a new Duck figurine coz they are all made of clay...also Stain is the one being experimented on in the last episode so the real Duck is the one that lived
To be fair, Clay's purpose was always to take the form of whichever friend you liked the most and Red did just that.
I’ll never get over the line “We’re already in loads of debt” :c
Bc in the last episode it’s revealed that while Red and Duck don’t know what a bill or living expenses are, Yellow does. So basically Yellow is the one balancing the cheque book
No one going to mention how the coffin raising from the floorboards is clearly an amazing Hellraiser reference?
That's what I thought when the Stain came up with the arms, it reminded me heavily of Hellraiser
This episode speaks to just the awkward parts of when someone dies and I love it for that.
Reshoot it with the same script and use that. Lean in to the creepy feeling of off familiarity with your intros
it still kinda is, I thought this was a reupload for a moment
Stain Edwards is my favorite character because it’s an optimistic character like a character from an actual kids show in the dark gruesome world of Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared
So, my family actually treats death in a very healthy way. We do treat it like a celebration of life, we bake and make food for the family, we get flowers for the memorial service, we find pictures of their life, make a sideshow, and play really the deceased preferred music.
You can actually see red's teeth in episode 2 of the web series at the start of clock's "chorus" (it seems like a chorus but only appears once).
This is one of my favorites because the fact that he's dead is the least weird thing in the episode

love that you're analyzing the episodes one by one, there's so much stuff to discover in all of them that every episode really does deserve special attention imho. keep up the good work!
Maybe he doesnt actually know thats his name though
nah that wouldn't be that easy
I think which duck was killed was the pink one,
Earlier in the episode, Mr coffin explains how someone can tell if someone is dead by cutting off Duck's finger, which puffs smoke while Yellow bled when he did it.
I think original one is gone because if you decapitate a clay blob it doesn't bleed and we see blood at the killing moment
But a clay blob doesn't have feathers or fabric clothes though so it can clearly change matter into other materials
I'm convinced the David thing was a jab at the fans who gave the characters headcannoned names
I couldn't help but shed a tear when Duck found out he was dead, truly one of the moments of all time.
I cant stop thinking about that in david’s dream we see that in reality duck was red’s dog so the tournament line may refer to some dog turnamnet i dunno
Duck is also in one of the houses
JUST REALIZED that the Coffin guessed that yellow was dead and well he actually is
Bro duck is just used to dying so if he dies he’s gonna be like ‘well, nothing I can do about it’
Very good video mate. I was looking for analysis on dhmis for a while now but norhing seemed to be any good. But you nailed it.
Thank you so much!
Pink died. When ducks finger was cut all that was in him was hot air, and he had his organs removed, but the duck that died bled
This episode also has the most relevant credits I think, forshadowing every other teacher in the series
If duck has actually done terrible things previously, I'd argue its safe to assume old duck is the one that killed new duck
I watched this show a few months ago and recently someone actually died. We're having the funeral soon. This episode has actually kind of helped
"I like fudge"
"HE'S TOO OPINIONATED!"
I think red guy just has rotting teeth because he’s British
Also I don’t think the old duck was killed, as he was shown throughout the episode to no longer bleed or have organs. It’s dhmis tho, so I wouldn’t be surprised if it was the doppelgänger

Ok but red guy asking if it was an egg is hilarious, gotta love the horror humor
I instinctively sang along with the "big day" song and now i feel like ive been used
I'm willing to argue that the party prep is accurate, at least in so far as the history of funeral practices!
The overwhelming masculine urge to make a 35 minutes video essay on a joke someone made in a TV show.
This was so well written and narrated 💕
Why do you keep calling Stain Edwards the Forever Boy "pink"? Poor stain
You’re right. I should show Mr Stain more respect
The Teddy Perkins as creepy creep killed me😂😂😂
Been waiting years to use that gif haha
Poor Stain Edwards, The Forever-Boy. RIP.
I wasn't expecting to hear "death-like deity" to describe a coffin puppet
As far as i know becky sloan posted on social media reffering to yellow guy as Doi, probably the canon name. The post was made a long time ago tho
I feel like the yellow we know is doi and David is smart yellow. Or because the original is framed as a show within a show doi could be the name of the character in the show in the web series and the TV show version is David. But it's probably the first one
fun fact stain was the one that got axed. sadly. duck doesn't bleed because he's dead and he got his insides removed
I always just thought this was a metaphor for a friend going to university or getting married and leaving the friend group. I kind of still think that.
“Hey, wow, I didn’t like that!” ❤ Kevin Eldon
I can't help but wonder if the bell dinging even while he's already buried was a reference to people being buried when they weren't sure if they were dead or not so they tied a string to their finger that attached to a surface bell they could ring if they woke up, to let someone know they're alive
Congrats on 3k+ I'm so happy you're getting the recognition you deserve And ofc this another amazing vid💖
Based on the humour of this show, I'd not be surprised to learn the the "D" on Yellow's overalls just stands for "dungarees."
27:48 his name is stain Edwards the forever boy
I've literally watched this 3 times as I'm not doing very well health wise and this is oddly comforting 😂 I'm not afraid of death by any means but I love the thin line between horror/ comedy/ reality and it made me feel better!
