    The Polaris Indy Sport 340cc dirt snowmobile returns! This Snowmoquad, as it is called, is a Polaris 340cc 2 stroke snowmobile converted to run on the dirt. The front snowmobile skis were replaced by wheels and tires, and it uses the same factory track in the rear. Today, we revive the Snowmoquad and race it around the CarsandCameras Grand Prix, then we bring it to Mini Mayhem to return it to it's original owner!

    For Charles and family subject. He is a great addition to your team at cars and cameras. I hope I speak for all the audience when I say that he should be compisated for his participation maybe more than an hourly rate if he is not already. I always look forward to what he has to add to what I already love watching your channel. His added humor is a great addition to an already awesome channel!

      @@richardperrin9374I totally agree, I do this same exact stuff with little engines toys like go carts,mini bikes or motorized bicycles lol. But I tore down my first engine to like a 60 something Corvair that have been parked for 30 years behind my dad's Barn when he lived in Augusta Texas in the mid-90s , it was left there from the previous owners but I asked him if I could mess with it, and I was around 11 or 12 and grabbed his toolbox and sockets and went back there and learned that the car was weird cuz the engine was in the back LOL but I tore that motor halfway down and got the Pistons moving put it back together and it ended up running and I was allowed to drive it around the red dirt roads that went on for miles out in East Texas, so that's also when I learned how to drive a stick shift can't remember if that was the three on the tree or what it was prayer but anyway I've been messing with car engines and all that my whole life I never went to school on that, not ASE certified but I don't really let anybody touch my cars most of the newer ones don't know how to really do a good diagnostic they completely rely on computers and I have a 1990 Ford F-150 with the 5 L with a 5-speed that has 312,000 original miles and it's never even had the heads off. And it's transmission is original, it's a little tiny bit sloppy but overall not bad considering the mileage, it's just fine no grinding no whining and it blows cold AC in my face and hot heat up my feet and it's completely 100% reliable and everything works even the cruise control so you'd be surprised with some people might know I loved it anyways but I really had to learn it cuz I was a single parent for 20 years and I had to keep my vehicles going so I could go to work take care of my kids and I couldn't afford to pay some shopping to do something I could do myself for $70 you know?

    Reminds me of many tears ago in my early 20s: I had a hobby of putting chainsaw engines on bikes and rode them basically everywhere. I live in Michigan so winter was usually for other toys and driving. One day I strapped a Ziffy Whomper sled to the front wheel with a rectangle cutout for the front tire to inset into, bungee cords to both handles and up to the brake assembly to both allow a little flexible lean, but also to keep the wheel stationary. I set out one morning to head towork on it right after a huge snowstorm dumped a foot overnight, it rode like a dream with the Homelite XL925 screaming away out back on a Golden Eagle bike motor kit. Steering was amazing, brakes not so much. Overall it was excellent and I made it the 10 miles in no time flat, with lots of funny looks by people. When I flew in to the parking lot there were my main guys on the crew...I was all happy and was like "look at this thing, crazy fun -rides great...I call it the Snowmobike" wothout even a pause my best friend Tyler pipes up "The Homobike?" ...a round of hilarious laughter permeated the cold morning air 😂
    Thank you for the reminder and excellent videos

      As a motorized bike guy,I'd love to have seen it.Just in case you want another...They make a kit for bikes with an 85cc chainsaw cylinder.The 3rd version lasts now as rings caught before.So strong the regular clutches Can't handle the power band kick in.

    • @ProlificInvention
      @ProlificInvention 7 месяцев назад

      @bryduhbikeguy I've built literal hundreds of motorized bikes as I did it as a hobby and a side business since I was 13 (1992) --many were cheap chinese/s korean/japanese 2 and 4 stroke 50- 80cc (66.6cc really) kits. I've moved on to electric hub motor conversion kits now, but still have some bikes with the golden eagle kit which I've found to be the best. They're hard to get and pricy, but awesome as you can use any engine and they use a belt drive like an old whizzer motor bike.

      @@CarsandCamerasif you have issues with that snowmobile rear end you should make it a double axle in the back so a six wheeler and you can easily link the two axles with just two of the same size sprockets off to the side so the one being driven by the front the front wheel drive the rear one you know and then basically that entire front end setup is probably awful for that. It probably do better with some A-frames and some stabilizer bars going to some pivot knuckles what's the suspension the two shocks be in sitting just over the engine or in front of it but those are a pretty easy effective way for really good suspension I got the idea off of one of my RC cars and I'm about to utilize that and put it on this old Carter two-seater that was like an excellent excellent condition give it to me for free by my daughter's best friend. Her and her sister wrote it a bit when they were kids but there wasn't any really men around that knew how to take care of it because the girls didn't and eventually they're having trouble getting it started and they stopped riding it and they parked it in the shed where it was left for 15 years are probably more like 10 or 12 years but someone had snagged the engine off of it years ago but everything else is there including all four original dry rotten tires that still held air . I have one question, is it difficult to switch it to a live axle cuz it's currently the original one-wheel peel with a drum brake but I have parts to convert it to disc and four new tires like six ply tires and I stripped it down and I'm going to paint it with my paint sprayer and like some car paint. Cuz this is actually a pretty nice Carter and I haven't been able to find the exact one online as of yet and the serial number sticker just wasn't even legible but it's heavy duty in the seat goes back and forth and all that and has two side guards but I think the upper ones are meant to put in cushion which is what I'm going to do so it's more like a bucket seat for two and I'm probably going to roll a a run a roll bar behind the seat just in case there is a flip whether I'll make a cage or not I don't know I don't want to add any more weight than I have to but I think I'm going to have to stretch the frame a little in order for the seat to be back just where it's comfortable and then room for a bigger motor I'll just run a 212 I think at first but it's probably easier than I can go on Craigslist or Facebook Marketplace and get a junk dirt bike or older 200 250 350cc motorcycle engine with gears if you know what I'm talking about. A death trap😂

  • @h3ndrickson331

    Me and my dad did this a few years back and you’d be surprised how long that track will hold up even on pavement

    • @Hellsong89
      @Hellsong89 7 месяцев назад

      Sure but it still will wreck it in no time compared to what it would do in snow. And those tracks are hella expensive new, least around here. Another thing is the other parts like slide surfaces on the bottom. Those are not made for dirt and will get eaten up. Top of that unless its full wheel system like in really old sleds those slides are meant to be lubricated by snow, so added friction will harm both driving experience well as sled it self. Honestly if you are going to build something like this, just put a axle and wheels at the back and you are better off than ruining tracks for no good reason. If you are in soft boddy area or lots of mud, make your own tracks instead. Note also the cooling system. Those are meant to be driving in frost conditions and water cooled ones have radiator in the tunnel roof, meant to be thrown snow to cool it. On summer there is no cooling to mention and not many places to put car radiator. Air cooled have similar problem where those run too hot on summer, so you can only adjust mix rich to cool it off with fuel, witch increases fuel consumption.
      So take a go cart and engine swap it with this instead of ruining whole thing, specially with the older sleds people might want to buy spare parts from.

    • @alexlacroix9515
      @alexlacroix9515 7 месяцев назад

      I could not have said it better myself. Here in N.C. If you are lucky enough to come across a sled 1 grass drag it 550’ runs with cool down between runs. 2 Transplant into a wheeled vehicle and allow the engine to show you its potential. Snowmobile’s are designed for snow you can overheat them and melt the slide-rails on glare ice.

    When on snow, the snow melts and lubes the sliders the track runs on. Withput snow you need a water suply to lube the sliders. When snowmobilers want to drag race in the summer they mount a water source on the sled and run hoses down so water runs onto the sliders.

    Y'all should be paying Charles more so he doesn't have to make Xmas ornaments to make extra money!
    I'll buy one to support Charles! He is my favorite guy on the channel anyway!

    Hey guys hello from the great white north where those sleds are made. The drive cog is slipping most likely because track is worn and the plastic pieces the run on the track hifax need snow or water to lube them. Or ad more bogey wheels.

    Fun project. I did grass (& snow) drags back in the 70's, we left the skis on, lots of fast sleds, lol! My Evinrude 650 triple wankel would do 120mph in the 1/4 mile, & there were faster sleds than that. Y'all might have to get your hands on a few, just for testing purposes, harhar! Thanx !

    Snowmobiles need to have snow to lubricate the the hyfaxes/slide rails and the drive cogs. without snow the hyfaxes and the drive cogs will get really hot and they will melt and the track will stick to them. and sometimes when they cool down the track will release. and other times it will be stuck permanently. what a person has to do to operate a snowmobile on dry surfaces? is have to remove the hyfaxes and put bogey wheels on the slide rails. and the sled will do much better. I bought a sled once that the previous owners were riding it on the grass and it wouldn't even move. I ended up having to put new drive cogs and hyfaxes on it before I could take it for a ride. I was a snowmobile enthusiast for many years.
    Im still waiting for you guys to revisit the Honduki project? I still think that machine has a lot of potential.

    I have to say, that is the best crash-dismount so far, Isaac just stepped off and that was it, granted it wasn't that fast, but still, I'd have been flat on my arse if I did that I'm sure... :P

    That noise the track is making is called ratcheting. That means the cogs on the driver are slipping. Also that blue strip right under the the rail at the bottom of the track is called a hyrax [slide rail] those melt away if there isn't snow to keep them cool and lubricated. Once the slide rail melts you will be running on metal to metal. Next is a fire truck! This thing is running on borrowed time.

    The worst part about sleds not working is it’s normally like -30 when ur trying to fix them and your hands are numb and your buddies are trying to just tow you home but you’re convinced you can fix it but then your hands get even more numb and the sled gets more broken.
