If the console were region changed by ModMii an official update is safe, and updating to 4.3 using ModMii is always safe. 3:27 - ModMii is 100% open source so if it was doing something malicious it would be easy to spot (for the same reason though ModMii should only be downloaded from the official/trusted source, lest someone edits it. I've never come across a mirror that has been modified but still it could happen). 5:20 - When ModMii asks if this is the first time modding your Wii, you can always say yes even if it's not true, if they want to completely re-softmod a Wii that has already been modified (old mods will be overwritten). 5:43 - If ever the serial number sticker does not match the region in the Wii settings, use the one from the Wii settings and not the sticker 6:16 - Go with recommended system menu version, which isn't necessarily always 4.3 12:52 - You have bad blocks in your nand backup, they appear to go away during the verification procedure, but they actually don't, there are still some bad blocks. This is normal, a nand with zero bad blocks is rare, even brand new from the factory. It was more cost effective for Nintendo to permit a certain threshold of bad blocks than use a smaller nand with zero bad blocks 16:16 - I think it's important to note that the steps, including order of steps and what specific wads to install, may differ depending on your unique situation, and if there are any differences between their custom guide and the video, they should follow the guide.

One additional comment, at around 5:30 when modmii asks for your current system menu version users should always answer honestly, no need to recommend 4.3 at this point. If you want to upgrade to 4.3 you can choose it later when asked for your desired system menu version. It is actually safer to upgrade to 4.3 using modmii than an official update as potential 003 bricks will be avoided (only a potential risk to formerly Korean Wii's that were poorly region changed) Checking the physical sticker for the serial # is a great way to quickly check if the wii was originally Korean. If originally Korean and it's not Korean in the settings an official update should be avoided (only safe if it was properly region changed/softmodded)
Hey @xflakx4734 you might be busy, but if you ever get a chance to see this. Have you ever encountered an issue with a wii not booting into or after you click on the letter bomb? I had it previously homebrewed with the classic letter bomb but removed everything previously since it was giving me issue with some wii games not launching. So i tried your method but so far its not booting into the homebrew installer.
@@lgndkillr Same thing for me. Eventually it worked. I am not sure if it was random luck but for me it worked after I had re-formatted the SD card using a third party application.

@MysticDragon1988 sd to usb card readers are very cheap on Amazon, I would recommend that route. There is another way to do it over the WiFi, but I've never done it that way

I need help. I have a modded wii with version 4.1U (originally korea) and ios61. When I try to launch Nintendont or USBLoader it tells me I need ios58 and version 4.3. If I want to update via modwii do I follow the same steps as in this video?
my wii is modded with a chip, and plays burned discs straight from the menu,it shows up in the top left box. i dont need to go to the homebrew channel or anything. but i tried burning a wii iso to disc recently and now my wii doesnt play them anymore, the game doesnt even show up in the box menu.i havent done it in years so maybe im missing something i forgot. but simply burning the iso with imgburn doesnt make the game show up on my wii, i know the wii still works because i can play my old burned games still, so i dont know what step im missing.
awesome video, i had to come here to figure this out, seems if i chose a wii meu theme the installer would freeze up, but works fine if you choose to keep that same old boring theme

Hi, everything worked well until 15:22 when I need to load YAWM I got a black screen and nothing happen I tried reseting the Wii 2-3 times but ends on the same result do you have encountered this problem ? Just watched this video so I can help my friend buy the neccessary stuff to homebrew her Wii. It's going to be my first time doing it, and this was the only video I found that was so indepth! Will you make a video in the future discussing the best place to get WADs/games for the Wii after you've homebrewed it? Additional question, can still load DVDs normally into the Wii after homebrewing it? EDIT: I found a place to get game files, hope you make a video soon covering USB Loader GX and the supported file types with it as some of the files I found are ISO files and WBFS files.

@@DenverGamerI figured that might be the issue and I restarted the entire process; as soon as I finished downloading and copying everything I removed it and put it in my Wii, so not very long at all
i had same problem. i have an older wii and also 3.4U. I put the sd card in - but went to the wii settings then to the "sd saveslot area" instead of the calendar. Loaded automatically.
So I need some help, i click on U for usa when on modmii wizard, and then the screen wiiband where you tell it no disc and for it to use sd only doesn't pop up and goes to the 4.3 recommended screen.

MIND YOU, THE USB YOU USE MUST BE IN MBR TYPE PARTITION SINCE GPT PARTITION GIVES ERRORS IN MANY INSTANCES.

@ I think it depends on the time zone it comes from vs your time zone. I'm pretty sure the server is in Europe somewhere

Is there a way to remove bootmii as Boot2? It's kinda annoying to hit that screen every time.
Idk if u found out already but you js change the name of bootmii folder to "bootmii_disabled" so it doesn't boot up at start
