This is funny and the memes are already hilarious but the bigger picture is so much more depressing. The fact games like this are getting green lit and pushed out (under sweatshop work conditions, too) because they know it'll generate buzz and people will still play it is depressing. The current video game landscape is dystopian. Not even back in the days of PS1 and Gamecube were games this blatantly shitty being pumped out.
It's a real shame this game turned out the way it did, because Daedalic Studios have made some really great games in the past. They focus on 2D point-and-click adventures and they've been really good at this genre. If you're into that sort of stuff, I can definitely recommend Chains of Satinav and Memoria. Great story, beautiful hand-painted visuals, costs only a few bucks. Daedalic probably bit off more than they could chew by setting out to make Gollum. They're a small German indie game devoloper, not a major AAA studio.
I don't know what the studio's future will be now, which is unfortunate since they have done great work on a smaller scale in the past. Chains of Satinav and Memoria are stupendous, and their Legends of Andor app is a good version of that excellent board game.

@@BalkanGames lack of experience doesn't necessarily mean the developer will make a bad game, they have other titles to take inspiration from. Plenty of studios were successful in their first attempt trying out a new genre/style of game.

Examples: Anthem, Redfall, Jedi: Fallen Order, GoldenEye 007 and the Perfect Dark games (Don't get me wrong, Rare were a talented team of developers back in the day, but their attempts at FPSs were pathetic in my book), the TimeSplitters games and Haze (FRD were former Rare developers, which is why it's not surprising that their FPSs were also pretty bad), DICE's singleplayer modes, and Fallou 76. I could go on, though.
Why does the game stutter sometimes? Is it the streaming cam he used for recording video? The graphics look lower resolution than say Redfall, there should be no stuttering at all. I think...

If you squint; the new Gollum kinda looks like Edna Konrad (Edna & Harvey: The Breakout), if she went 80 years without eating or drinking. Humorously; ‘Keeping Up With The Daedalics’ shows that Edna doesn’t have a high opinion of Gollum - for obvious reasons.
If you could view this game as an early PS3 title and waited for it to go on sale at some Dollar General bargain bin for $5 I could see myself picking it up really. Some of the environments in this game do intrigue me. I'm reminded of the classic God of War games or even the Castlevania Lords of Shadow games which imo were amazingly beautiful for their time!

When I heard about this game I was looking forward to it and was going to get it but after seeing this and several reviews and I think I'll do a hard pass.
The movies are also 2 decades old at this point. But unrelated to the original point, the character art direction is such a distracting thing, but the gameplay makes it so much worse.

It feels like the wrong genre and the wrong character were put together for this particular game..
I'm probably gonna get some shit for this. But I personally have enjoyed the game so far. My only issue are the lag spikes and the graphics are very good (i play on all low since I have a gtx1660)

The game is so poorly-optimized to the point where it'll stutter even if you have a full-on gaming PC.
