    One little correction I'd like to make is this:
    The original System Shock actually had INCREDIBLE graphics for the time. It is a bit hard to appreciate it now, unless you know the history of video game graphics. Looking Glass was actually a pioneer of 3d graphics. Their first game, Ultima Underworld, was the first game to be fully texture mapped. That is, it had an image applied to every piece of the level geometry. But this was quite resource intensive so, many compromises had to be made. For example, the game display was limited to one third of the screen realestate. Ceiling geometry was kept flat, to reduce the polygon count. As well as a few other limitations. Underworld 2 improved on this a little bit by increasing the screen realestate. System Shock made a big leap forward by having a fullscreen render mode, multi-height ceilings, sloped walls, ceilings and floors and even being one of the first games to use post-processing effects.
    I know that the original System Shock is nearly unapproachable today. But, the importance of it cannot be understated, IMO.

    • @lewiswilliams3347

      @@jacob3761 that makes sense tbf

    • @smashbrandiscootch719
      @smashbrandiscootch719 Год назад +5

      @@jacob3761 Sort of, yeah. When your channel has a singular focus, it makes it easier for the youtube algorithm to classify based on things like key words used not only in the title but in your video itself. Once it is able to classify it, it is able to suggest the channel/videos to people in their home feed based on their RUclips viewing activity. So while Sty makes just overwatch content on the main channel, the algorithm is going to recommend it to people who watch a lot of overwatch content. If he starts throwing up apex legends, Valorant, call of duty, etc content then it won't suggest the channel nearly as much to those overwatch players. And because his channel has so much overwatch content, it won't be suggested as much to people who are all about other shooters. Which is why focused channels tend to get more traffic than channels with more of a mix of different types of content.
      There's a lot more that goes into it, but that's a suuuuuuuuuuuuuuper basic explanation.

    I'm having a great time with this remake. Awesome to hear Terri Brosius back as Shodan. I love the fact they've gone with a slightly pixelated aesthetic for the graphics, as it really harks back to the old-school cyberpunk feel of the original game (which looks hideous by today's standards, and don't get me started on the controls), so well done, Nightdive Studios. We lost a little faith during the convoluted path to get here, but you've absolutely nailed it. Now... when can we expect the System Shock 2 remake?

    Hey Sty! Personal request, but if you see this and haven't played it, I would absolutely love to see you do a playthrough of Outer Wilds (not to be confused with the Outer Worlds)! It isn't really super similar to any of the games you've covered so far, but I finished it recently and it is one of the best games I have ever played. The other thing I would ask is just to go into the game as blind as possible. The first time experience with the game is what makes it so special. Been watching your stuff for a super long time and it'd be super crazy if you were to do a playthrough of it

    That opening plug puzzle is extremely bad, particularly when compared to the original: not only does it keep the difficulty down so that you're learning how the system works before tackling more difficult examples but it puts the panel RIGHT NEXT TO THE BRIDGE so that you can see it turn on the moment you complete the puzzle; no need to turn around.

    Nice review. This "remake" is cute and nostalgic for sure, but somewhat too arcade-style and everything still looks bland with some different shades of color which are nice. I can see that it could be fun but if any classic deserves a remake it would be System Shock 2 which has to be one of the best games of all time.

    It's a remake. They built this from the ground up to recreate the original. A remaster would be using the old assets, maybe porting it to a new engine, and then updating everything, but that's not what they did here. Yes, it's not like the FF7 Remake, which is more of a reimagining, but it's more than just polishing up what's already there.

    One thing I found very interesting: If you find any other working guns in the game world, right-click and select [Empty] if you already obtained that particular weapon; this will empty the extra guns’ ammo into your inventory for use. Drop the extra gun after you’ve emptied it. Quite fascinating.

    I finished playing the System Shock remake these days and I have no intention of playing it again.
    is it a bad game? no, is it a good game? neither
    and why is this? not for the damned puzzles, which I absolutely didn't understand how they work and I solved some by clicking at random while others using logic probes, not for the useless parts in cyberspace, which would have been better eliminated from the game,
    but the main reason is because the game is extremely confusing: in addition to being lost in every single level, even in the maintenance one, I didn't know where I had to go, what I had to do, I went around practically at random and everyone (and I mean ALL!) the ways to carry on the story of the game, I had to discover them by searching for information on the web, because there is nothing in that damn game that tells you what you need to do.
    and don't tell me that I would have understood it by listening to the recorded messages, because there are too many of them, they are vague and confusing (often even boring to listen to), as well as not put in the register in a coherent order and therefore it is difficult to find them to listen to them again and also when they say what should be done, they are never precise and they seem to be talking about something else.
