Glad you emphasized that the speakers have personality and that it’s perfectly OK. I roll my eyes when reviewers are chasing some bliss in flatness. No live music setup is ever flat. No recording studio ever sounds flat. It’s always about personality.
Actually recording studios are all about playback using flat monitors.

@@ap5672 - That’s a partially accurate statement. Some folks indeed prefer a flat and neutral sound and others most definitely do not. When listening with gear at home - it’s all just personal preference when it comes down to it.
All speakers try to simulate flat responce more or less. If you like just one tipe of music you can get away with as you said speakers with character that suit you music stile. But if you listen to whole spectre of music genres you need that flat responce because othervise you will miss those toned down frequecies.
Exactly. "Neutral" is an illusion. Even if studio speakers are flat, the recording is often not mixed that way. MAYBE jazz and classical. But do you think Nuttin But G Thang is flat? How about Free Fallin'? Flat doesn't sell records, boosted bass and/or treble does, V shapes do. But even if we disregard recordings and PA's, flat often isn't even there in the actual sound of the music. Guitar amps are often not flat and even if they are capable of it, many guitar players go heavy on the treble or the bass. So audiophiles are chasing a fantom that just isn't there.
Super stoked for this review. Just finished my 5.1.2. I have the RP6000fs, 250c and based on your recommendation the 500ms for surrounds. My atmos is nothing to write home about, energy take classic haha.
Glad you're describing the room. I ran my RP260F's (previous gen) with a Marantz SR8400 in a similar sized room and one much bigger. These speakers are fun to listen to and can go loud

Glad I found this. This model is overlooked. Most people jump straight up to the 8000 but the 6000 is very solid. I have this and the 600s too and I’m tempted to return the 600s and keep these even though I try to avoid towers haha

Great review as always. I am a Klipsch fan for almost thirty years now so maybe a little biased but I love horns and I love Klipsch. I'm glad to see you showing the brand some attention. On a side note I would love to see you review some Dayton audio gear starting with the APA150. Its a two channel amp that can also be bridged mono. I am really interested in it as well as others they offer too. They just don't get any attention but the specs look good and are affordable. I would trust your opinion.

I was originally going to get those but opted for a mint pair of Klipsch Quartets. Setting those up with two Sw-110 and it’s absolutely killer sound.
I found a pair of rp8000f's brand new for $700. Hooked up to my Yamaha Aventage they absolutely shine. For home theater they are also great but with music listening I am blown away every time I listen. I do have a dedicated room with treatments so that helps.
Single Ended Triode (SET) tube amps tend to be rolled off in the bass and treble ranges. Efficient, V-shaped speakers such as Klipsch are often a spectacularly good match with them. The Reisong A10 rolls off starting at about 2,000 hz. This would be a serious problem with a "linear" speaker. But it's perfectly suited to most of Klipsch's line.

Klipsch are great for apartments. They sound GREAT at lower volumes, many "accurate" speakers need to be played louder to sound good.....efficiency = FUN
You want me to buy Klipschs. If a Klipsch can be played at lower volumes to sound great, then the lower volumes will make the Klipsch sound less harsh. Tube amp will make the Klipsch sound even less harsh. Tube amps & Klipsch both require little power. What he fails to mention an efficient speaker plays more clearly.. An efficient speaker plays louder. An inefficient speaker playing as loud as a Klipsch is in an unclear sounding congestive strain. A Klipsch has stronger bass, with no sub needed. Another advantage is the Klipsch's bass is loud like a subwoofer, but the Klipsch bass is more clear than a subwoofer. The Klipsch bass is better than other speakers. It is rare to get bass that is both clear, deep, & loud at the same time. If one has a brick or heavy interior stucco block wall as a diffusor, the Klipsch's can be placed 4 inches from the rear wall. Place a large flat piece of glass between the speakers against the wall for good imaging.
Agreed. I've been using my Klipsch The Sixes as a 2.0 with my TV and late night when everyone is asleep I can still enjoy great clear sound at low volume. Honestly some serious ASMR with that horn
Sonos and Devialet speakers sound great at low volumes, and it's because they follow equal loudness contours and boost bass more at lower volumes.
Efficiency has nothing to do with it, though if these have brightness and peaks, I could see sounding clearer at very low volumes for high vocals.
I agree, when I don’t wanna wake the neighbors I keep my Klipsch RB-81ii turned low and still enjoy them! But during the daytime it’s game on lol.

With so many reviews Klipsch RP-8000F out there, glad to see a review of the RP-6000F.
So I finally got to a store with an audio room and compared the RP-6000F with the RP-8000F. I have to say I liked the mid-range on the 8000F better than the 6000F. But here is the problem, I think I still prefer my old Athena Technologies AS-F1 speakers over the Klipsch. Surprised me because I like my RP-600M in another room with a different setup. I think it's going to take something more than a "cheap" speaker to get me to upgrade from the Athena speakers that were purchased on a budget.
An rf7iii would be even better.
@@mjskillz23 I think the Klipsch RP-6000F (and even more the RP-8000F) sound very good but to my ears they're not a $1000-$1800 improvement over my current Athena AS-F1 speakers. If you're looking for a different sound (which I am) I don't think it helps to replace an older tower speaker with a newer tower speaker that is close to the same design. Perhaps that's why I like the RP-600M for my other system (bookshelf is different than tower). I'm starting to consider the KLM Model 5 floor speakers for a new/different/better sound than my current setup with the Athena speakers. Until then, I found in the garage sale some Athena Technologies AS-F2 tower speakers for less than $150 and used those to replace my smaller AS-F1 tower speakers. At only $150...I can justify any change I make with my setup. Happy hunting for your setup!

Hi Cheap Audio Man from the UK. Really enjoy your reviews and your sense of humour! On a completely different topic to these floor standing speakers, please review the Triangle Titus EZ if you can get your hands on them. Wouldn't really describe them as cheap (but then you seem to be reviewing other speakers which aren't exactly cheap) but the extraordinary thing I've found about them is that they work really well with cheap gear (well in my case they do, Marantz m-cr603) and that they are so easy to drive.
I'd really love to hear your take on these!

Beryllium dome drivers ..
Added sub, center, and effect speakers in '96 ..
Gone through 2 receivers .. (original Yamaha '81, upgraded to another Yamaha in '96)
All worked through Jan 2020 until ALL lost via storage incident ..
100% traveling since ..
Have not replaced system to date ..
That was 40 years of ownership ..
Researching replacements ..
Considering Klipsch ..
Tried the rp-5000 initially…thought they were adequate but wanted more muscle and went with the Rp-8000. No regrets.

Bought a pair of 8000 Fs on ebay for $900 for the pair new and smile every time they are used. Amazing for 2 channel tv watching!
Randy, you were spot on. I so wanted to like these auditioned the 600 and 800's. Yes what killed it for me was the mid-range felt it lacked warmth in the male vocal and was completely missing in most female vocals also lot of the drum hits sounded like the were hitting the edge instead of the skin, attack with no decay. Again imho. But for HT totally Rock..
I was debating buying my own tower speakers today but I noticed you didn't have any tower speakers but now you do I also want some. Since you love the JBL a130 so much you should review the JBL a170.

Thanks Randy for going over how far you had them from the front wall. I have been considering the RP 8000's or the 6000's but have limited space to pull them out. They are deep! It's good to know you didn't have any problems with several inches from the wall. My concern is my 82" ceiling. I would love the 8000's but that low ceiling, I don't know, perhaps the 6000's may be the better choice?

I went in to demo the Lumina 5 but the dealer only had the Lumina 3 on the floor. So I listened to it, and it was amazing. And then I realized it was only the 3 and not the 5! The 5's kick butt I hear, it has better technology inside.
What my ears heard was this:
First the midrange. OMG. Clear and full. Bass seemed to come out from nowhere, it was there in the room. The treble is a bit elevated but it's not harsh whatsoever! The speakers have an extremely low distortion rating, much much lower than Klipsch. You can crank these up, and they will run practically on any amp. I heard them on a 48 watt Prima Luna! Not much power needed to make them sing. They almost remind me of Klipsch Heritage in a way. It's not a horn sound, and it's not as efficient as Klipsch but it's got a nice forward presentation but without the artifacts that Klipsch has. Beautiful center image and depending on the song, nice depth behind the speakers. BEST Thing: It plays every music genre great (I played, classical, jazz, fusion, rock, hard rock and pop). AND it's forgiving to poor recorded music! Klipsch tends to be very unforgiving to poor recordings, that's the major flaw for me about Klipsch. You should check them out.
Also the KLH Model 5 Kicks serious ass too: it's a warmish sounding speaker. In all actuality I don't have the Lumina's yet because I am still trying to decide between the KLH and Lumina. But I think I am going for the Lumina's. Why? They are made in Italy and not China, they look great, and sound better. Still the KLH is a sealed cabinet which makes them very easy to place in a room. The Lumina's are down firing ported but still are easy to place.
It's been about 3 weeks since I heard the Lumina's and I STILL can not get them out of my head, they are THAT good!

I think these are likely very good choice behind acoustic projection screens for HT music duties, given the foreward bright nature, and leaving you dynamics, detail, dialog intelligibility, , focus, easy to drive with receiver, etc
I am addicted to sound, and the RP6000F is my delivery system of choice. Their sound is so thick you can chew it. A yamaha AS1100 helps to dig out every detail, bottom to top.
Bought my speakers a few months ago and had not been on the channel in a while. Came back to check on your sponsors, wasn't disappointed. Gonna buy me some Sith Audio Triangle of Happiness Perfection once the credit card fairy cooperates. Woo-hoo!!
I have the 8000F and love them.
I do love my Klipsch 280f. Good stuff. I am dismayed to see all the hate they receive but when you're onto something good you're going to get a lot of haters, particularly in the "high end" world of audio.
I recommend pairing Klipsch with Yamaha for it's laid back naturalistic sound signature. However, I found i had to use a Denon mic to get the room correction the way I liked it -the Yamaha mic didn't seem to work nearly as well as the Denon one.
One last note: give speakers a year to really break in. Whether it's the speakers changing or your hearing, all the speakers I've ever used just seem to get softer sounding over time. Like the tweeters seem to mellow out and the bass gets stronger and less hummy. I think you should give your speakers a long while to come into their own. Also, I think run your room correction every time they start sounding different to your ears and try to find a sound that suits you better until you finally are happy for a long time and then don't move them. You can experiment with placement but that's usually just to tow in the soundstage and help with the bass response like getting out bass nodes/cancellations.
The Klipsch is more of a HT speaker, and nothing wrong with that, I just wanted a speaker more geared towards music is all,and I love "air" just as much as the next guy (or girl) but my Klipsch had air in eveything, a failing in horn speakers.
@@musicman8270 my guess is either you're higher fi than I care about being, the amplifier you used didn't pair well with Klipsch or you didn't get your room correction/placement set up well. Also, maybe you didn't give the speakers time to come into their element with time and play.
When I connected my 280f to my Denon x3500h, they did not sound good at all. The Denon is a bright receiver and the Klipsch is a bright speakers. I recommend getting a Yamaha receiver and a Denon mic to set up your system.
It's a very good music speakers and unbeatable home theater anywhere near the price IMO.
I don't have the experience of reviewers and it seems many speakers brands are making knock out of the park speakers in the price range so it might not be better but I like them thoroughly.
@@kohnfutner9637 - Funny I don’t think that way of Denon at all. Denon uses Audyssey and Yamaha runs IPAO for room correction. I much prefer Audyssey and you can adjust any frequency necessary. Whatever color you like.

Ok. Respect... I just had klipsch rp8000f in my living room and compare them to my diy speakers with almoust ruler flat frequency responce. And you just nailed your review. There is a dip from around 1000 to 2000hz, and it does effect mid range and after that a steep climb to 3000 ish hz. I confirmed it with messurement.
But like you said they have that klipsch magic. You like it or you don't.
But some voices did lack that bit of spectrum.
For an instance I like roxettes Marie Fredrinkssons voice and klipsch just can't deliver. Like it's missing a bit. It also effects electric quitars.

Nice! I’ve been sort of considering the RP-5000F, as I can actually afford it if it’s on sale or Open Box. BUT my room is kinda small especially in the dimension that’d be parallel to the depth of the speaker.
The 5000 is a little smaller than the 6000, but still super deep at over 14”D. I won’t be able to have the back of it more than like 6” from the wall, but maybe that’s ok from what you’re saying. Maybe I should give them a try 🤔
If you have a 'padded' space, like thick carpets, heavy drapes, big sofa's that can abdorb sound instead of reflecting it, you can have bigger speakers without much issue. If not: Stick with bookshelf speakers. You will enjoy them more.

I'm waiting for the that line of Sith Audio speaker upgrade kits and cable signal accelerators. But, until then, it would be interesting to get your take on the performance effects in the RP-6000F with the GR Research upgrades.
If you don't treat your room first, those upgrades are wasted.
Thx. I love your style. I miss the old amps and old-school speakers of the 80s and 90s. I had a Technics amp w/ a 7-band EQ and 3-way speakers w/ 10" woofers. The quality I got out of that was better than what I've ever heard since. And it had punch, even in a large room.
In any case, I need to live in the now instead of the then. With that said, I'm confused about Klipsch's product lineup and the difference between them. Can you do a video that explains the difference between the floorstanding speakers? There's the Synergy, the Reference, Reference Premiere, etc. It seems to me the company is making the same speakers over and over again but repackaging them to make them look different so they can charge more for certain lines over others. Even though they're essentially the same exact speaker.
So, if you did a video that explained the Klipsch lines, you'll be probably the only person on RUclips who did it.

Synergy are basically the home theater line, Reference have cheaper cabinets and drivers than the Reference Premier line, it's not just cosmetics.
@@Gary_M Nope. The Reference and Reference Premiere are exactly the same. I’m only talking about the towers. The RP bookshelf speakers are quite a bit better than the Reference bookshelf speakers. But the Reference towers are identical to the RP towers. Same everything. Except the tweeters. The RP tweeters are different. But, and it’s a big but, they don’t sound different. If you A-B the, say for instance, the R-820s with the RP-8000s, with both behind a curtain so you can’t see them, you won’t know which are which. I did this, and I was shocked. And I do have golden ears! Having so called golden ears is a curse. It’s impossible to just enjoy music! But, when I took them both apart, they where identical, even the crossovers. When they where behind curtains, I often preferred the imaging of the R-820s. They have truly cavernous horns. I really like the Klipsch sound, and usually prefer them, but I wish they’d do a better job with their crossovers. There’s no excuse for that midrange drop out. Not a deal breaker though.
Good video. I cleared up a lot of things. In other words, I can use those speakers with my Onkyo A -9010 of 44 watts per channel. Greetings.

Randy, as I was watching your video, an ad came up for a stereo store in California that was clearing some things out in a moving sale. One of those items was a Grand Prix Audio Monaco 4-shelf audio rack on clearance for ONLY $5,000.00, with an MSRP of $10,250.00!!
I currently have my office audio system sitting on a plastic storage rack I bought at Home Depot for 40 bucks. What would the Cheap AudioMan say about this potential upgrade? Movie watching is what I use these for, Cheapaudioman. What center would you pair these with? I'm using the Onkyo TR-NR6100. Are you of the opinion to not use a center since they are full range? Right now I have the Klipsch R25 which is adequate but the dialogue could still be clearer.

I LOVE my Heresy IV. Have not heard the model you discuss here. I have also owned Klipsch Belles, RF3s, and RP600M. Good amplification is the key to good sound with Klipsch. Tubes and Class A solid state amps come to mind. Class D I have little experience with except for that little Tripath? amp from way back when. YMMV.
Klipsch RP 6000F or HECO Aurora 700 or SVS Prime towers for movies and gaming ? I don't have a problem with bright speakers and already have a Subwoofer (SVS PB-2000 Pro)

I've had the grannies of these (F2s) for 14 years now and would not upgrade for any others. Paid 750 bucks for the pair, from Klipsch, in 2007, and paired it with a JBL sub, which is only necessary with anemic recordings in my 12X13 living room.
Will an 80w per channel amp be enough? I currently have rp-500ms hooked up to it
I love the RP series (the RP-150M is amazing). Despite the stereotype of Klipsch being bright, the RP series is not. They are a little forward on things like cymbals, stringed instruments and brass instruments, yet neutral enough to not be fatiguing which gives the music a live presentation-like feel to it.
I love my RP150M better than my RP6000f for daily use. So do my neighbours.
People often connect the Klipsch speakers to an amp and set the amp volume at about the level they usually set it at. So the Klipsch are much louder than they realize. Set the volume to zero, and slowly increase the volume. Get used to the Klipsch speakers.
I run my RP dual 8” towers, quad 5.25” center and rp500 side and rear surrounds on a Marantz receiver with an Emotiva XPA 3 on front stage and it’s marvelous! Matches up with the receiver very well. Dual svs pb3000s on base. Won’t be changing anything for a long while. Very happy.

Great review amigo! Please check out the Magnat Transpuls 1500. Big old school 3 way with a 15" woofer for only $1,000/pair. Supposed to be an amazing value and fun to listen to. I feel like there's room in the market for a bit of a big speaker renaissance. For those that have the space anyway. lol

Klipsch was smart sending you these. I have the rp600m and want to look at levelling up and was scratching my head a bit. I think the other pair in this line, the 8000f would be a candidate. More of that sound I love with the 600m but fuller range, even more presence and I'm guessing soundstage as a result. I need to give these a serious look. Good news is my local shop just became a klipsch dealer yay
Not long ago I found my rp280fs for $400 each. Love them! That’s the version before these without the copper trim ring around each speaker. Otherwise the same besides minimal tweeter venting added to this version in the video.
@@TheDoozie43 it's funny reading my older post because that "thought" I was having came to reality a short time after, and I too found the 280f for $800 shipped to my door. Unreal. 140lb in two boxes, Vegas to Philly and they threw in a pair of speakers for a little more than the shipping costs it seems!

I've heard they use same woofers and crossover as the newer model. But I think the newer has a different tweeter, not just the venting. But I could be wrong. If I find the part I may later try to upgrade them.
What amp or amps have you tried with them? I may get a Denon pma specifically for these speakers. The two amps I have in house are a little bright and forward for the top end on these and at more moderate listening levels I feel they could sound much more balanced.
@@erics.4113 a Marantz 6013 on rp500 side and rear surrounds and four rp140sa atmos wedges up high. Added an Emotiva xpa3 on the front stage now with an rp450 center. The receiver did great though when I was running everything off of it though. Very nice combo. Dual svs pb3000 subs also. I’m sure the Denon you’re considering would sound very similar since they’re made by the same company. I would suggest amps and processor separate with XLR capability though. If I ever upgrade that’s what I’ll be doing with another xlr amp and Denon processor.
@@TheDoozie43 I should have said I'm doing music only with mine. For HT I would absolutely go with these Klipsch. I also have rp600m and was thinking the other day if I got their center channel I'd have a pretty killer HT setup.
In the meantime, I'm trying to find an amp to tame the Klipsch for music only. It's funny I'm not a huge fan of the Denon sound but I have a feeling with the klipsch it would actually be a great pairing. More to experiment with. I'm not ready to sell any of my gear yet until I run through more combinations. You just reminded me of marantz as well. In the same family as you mentioned and might be worthy consideration for Klipsch

Hey Randy I currently have the Rp-600m ii. Medium sized room. I feel like they are missing something and just sound like small speakers. I’m thinking about upgrading to the 6000 or 8000. I’m using a Denon avr(3500) with Emotiva amps(basx 1A mono blocks). I’m also running dual svs sb-2000s. Do you think the 6000 would fill in the mid bass with the extra 6.5 or would you go with 8000s. I’m a little concerned with the size of the 8000 in my space. Thanks
I have the 800 and they need at least 100watts and a serious reciever that switches bass to a dedicated sub. They will turn into a serious imaging speaker like a $1000 Kef
I just bought a pair from London Drugs in Canada. The speaker line-up is maybe close to being refreshed? I just bought two unopened boxes for $349.99 ea. (yes, less than half price). I thought these would be a good replacement for my much older 2 x RF-62.

For weeks I have hesitated because I live in a condo and worry about the Bass? I would like to pair them to my Klipsch RP 4048 side speakers for surround. My present front and rear are Polk. I only hesitate due to the required wall space in a 12'- 6" front facing room. I'm curious about your personal thoughts after 12months of living with them.

Are these speakers (and I assume the RP-5000F and RP-8000F) 2-way (with 2 woofers) or are they 2 1/2 way, with the middle driver being a midrange, crossing over to the the lower one being the "real" woofer? If not, do these suffer from less driver integration where you can always hear the sound as if coming from the separate drivers instead of a coherent whole?
They are 2-way. However the center channel speaker with 4 woofers is 2 1/2 way.
