If these films were of the same quality he once made then yes, that should be applauded. Unfortunately, I learned that Scott doesn't care as much as he should. Historical accuracy be damned. With the many liberties taken you should at least try but that requires time, patience and more work.
What a solid man. Really hard to find genuine actors anymore. Alas, I am worried they won't do the first one justice. Russell Crowe and indeed the entire caste of the first film did a superb job in making what is an absolute classic. A lot of enemies will be made if they fuck up the second one.
I think from now on we should exclusively ask Russel about this film, and nothing else. For ever and ever until the end of time. I think he would secretly enjoy that.

Never compare Braveheart to Gladiator or any movie. Braveheart is in a class of its own, deeply rooted in its history and grittiness and raw strength. Lets stay on topic here ‼️
I was in film history at the University of Texas when it came out. We had an assignment to go see a current film at a theatre, write a paper on it, and turn the essay in with the ticket stub attached to the paper. The instructor wanted to make sure we were getting the full cinematic experience. I picked this film. Freaking great choice. I'll never forget it.
At the same time though he would be all for it if he was somehow asked to be in it. The movie made his career in many folks' opinions. So yeah, regardless of being in it or not, people are gonna ask him. It was a legendary performance.
If anything they should have made a prequel and had Russel narrate it, like a journey through his life from childhood right up to the the time of when he was betrayed would be awesome..

@@bowieupland6112 well, this isnt really new. Just think about the sequels to robocop, darkman, etc. Although I admit it got much worse in these days.
Nice honest answer by Crowe. Too bad there really isn't a way to incorporate him, without simply casting him as someone else. Great film.
Russell Crewe is saying true, well said, he is completely right at this point
You can’t beat the original with this one. Even down to the soundtracks it was just legendary.
@Hexor_Tyr Trust me, they are and they will. Im praying for a miracle for this movie to flop so hard that Ridley scott is ridiculed in the film industry, but hey, itll rake in hundreds of millions probably.
Why would u pray for the downfall of 1000 of men and woman that rely upon this films succes to even get paid or schedule another gig again? And im not talking about Ridley Scott or Denzel Washington or even Pedro Pascal cuz trust me I promise they will be just fine no matter what. Ridley Scott is a fucking animal with how many films he puts out at the age of 86. The stamina of that man. He looked at retirement and gave it the middle finger
If only any of the films would have any tangible substance.
If these films were of the same quality he once made then yes, that should be applauded. Unfortunately, I learned that Scott doesn't care as much as he should. Historical accuracy be damned. With the many liberties taken you should at least try but that requires time, patience and more work.
Same with Clint Eastwood.
He keeps wanting to hear a satisfying answer to "are you entertained?"
Yeah what a hero. Make a film nobody wants. Just so you can have some yob on the internet talk about your middle finger 🖕
Gladiator was a theatrical masterpiece. The trailor to Gladiator II feels like just another movie.
They’re usually cash grabs especially if they didn’t already plan to have a second one from the beginning
Absolutely. Tough shoes to fill
Give it a chance 😂

I love that he said if Ridley felt like making it, it has to be a strong reason.

Ridley has made so many bad decisions. If there's one director I absolutely do not trust, it's Ridley Scott 😂
Yeah exactly what's been said. Look at the guys Filmography, a few major blockbusters and dozens of absolute trash on film. Makes you wonder how much of that success he is ultimately responsible for.
@@fredwin Dozens of "absolute trash" films? I'd love to see your list of what you consider "trash" by Ridley Scott.
@yamamancha not trash. But he's so prolific that he has a shitton of misses (napolean, Robin hood, prometheus, good year, all the money in the world, exodus, the counselor, body of lies)
Honest man giving honest answers. Even though he doesn't like being asked the questions.
Watched The original GLADIATOR movie again last night. My favorite movie of all time. "Maximus, Maximus... the Merciful"😅
A prequel would’ve been more interesting. To see the rise of the general, Maximus. Also to see glimpses of Marcus’s rise to power as well.
You're right. That's a far more interesting idea...
Be kinda hard to make crowe look that young though don't ya think?
@@bricknmotor definitely wouldn’t be him. Maybe someone similar looking to him but younger. But he definitely can’t be replaced. That role was iconic.

Id be pissed like Russell if they made a sequel to a timeless, flawless classic.
Russell Crow had dinner with Ridley Scott to discuss the ending of the first Gladiator they ended up fighting and Russel Crow physically threw out of his house because they couldn't agree on how to end the movie.
Russell Crow is in some absolutely perfect movies. American Gangster, Gladiator, A Beautiful Mind
LA Confidential was good too.
Master and Commander was good too. One of my favorite sea movies.

LA Confidential, The Next Three Days.
Don't forget cinderella man
I vividly recall watching this in theatres and the whole crowd going wild with applause when the movie was over. Definitely one of the best films ever made
Eh it's just Braveheart reharsed in better looking, but less meaningful, setting.
Never compare Braveheart to Gladiator or any movie. Braveheart is in a class of its own, deeply rooted in its history and grittiness and raw strength. Lets stay on topic here ‼️
@@TheArtOfBeingFreedlol I hope you're joking
I was in film history at the University of Texas when it came out. We had an assignment to go see a current film at a theatre, write a paper on it, and turn the essay in with the ticket stub attached to the paper. The instructor wanted to make sure we were getting the full cinematic experience. I picked this film. Freaking great choice. I'll never forget it.
@@bensteele5753 what was the main point of your essay?
Man is a created a legendary character......and he did it perfectly. And the rest of the actors did as well.
"Russell, Russell, Russell! What do you think about the new Gladiator 2 movie?!"
"It vexes me... I'm terribly vexed."
Dude has the coolest voice in Hollywood

I'd listen to Russ read phone book.

Russ- you were young and gorgeous like the rest of us, and its fleeting, and you made your mark and no one will ever forget you as Maximus.

So many actors will be missed

Yeah his character is dead 🤷🏼♂️
Why would they even try and do ‘the same’ again? It’s not a remake, it’s a sequel.
