The month before this concert, I saw Taste open for Eric Clapton, Ginger Baker, Steve Winwood & Rick Gretch aka Blind Faith and Taste stole the show the crowd went wild and kept beggin for encores. Clapton tried to regain the momentum when BF played by putting his guitar behind his neck to play the lead for Presence of the Lord but Rory et al were still in everyone's minds.

That must have been a tough pill to swallow for Clapton to watch Taste take what Cream did and expand upon it, especially right in front of his face! That's what they call getting "dunked on" here, a basketball reference. The fact that Clapton had to resort to those type of theatrics is very telling, it must have shaken him up a bit. Rory was a force of nature, for me he's the best all around English guitarist of that era, bar none. I like Peter Green for pure blues, but Rory could do it all.

paul levine he's actually right. Mostly ever rock n' roll blues band where inspired by Cream. When they formed Hendrix wanted to play with them, Grand Funk Railroad's first album cover looks exactly like Creams and even did a song that cream covered in said album and Bonham said that "there are only two rock drummers today, me and Ginger Baker". Taste, Experience, Zeppelin and Sabbath were the heaviest, but Cream was the most precise and gifted.

Juan Tobar You are talking about the Dick Cavett show. Dick said to Jimi : how does it feel to be the best guitar player in the world and Jimi replied how about the best in this chair. Jimi has been known to say he thought Terry Kath of Chicago was better than him.

I went to the College of Woster in Wooster, OH. That'w where I heard of Rory. I guess it was close enough to Cleveland. Rory never played there, but Brian Auger did - another Cleveland favorite. As Chrisse Hynde said, in another context - "Way to go O-Hi-O!"

i sense some Pink Floyd influence on this rare treat by Rory & the Lads! Just incredible improvisation and raw talent fused together.

A 1969 interview shortly after Woodstock:
Interviewer: So Jimi, what's it like to be the best guitarist in the world?
Jimi Hendrix: I dunno, ask Rory Gallagher.
