Just like Clapton's Cream, I feel like Taste was the best work of Rory's entire career. The intensity of his playing at that time is absolutely amazing. I liked all of his stuff after that, but for me Taste will always be a cut above. 2 great studio efforts and one incredible Live at Montreaux. He was only 21 in this vid

This is proof of what a brilliant rocking 1st rate band TASTE was. A 3 piece playing with very little equipment who could play many different styles. They were one of those very rare bands that would win you over immediately and whose music would capture your mind for the rest of your life. Is it just me or am I right, In the early days Dave Davies of the Kinks looked very much like our man Rory

Methinks the director was trying to make a UFO Club 'happening' vibe (it's 1969 after all) -don't beat up on the cameraman. Think of the band as accompaniment to some acid induced 'freak out' -like Pink Floyd or Soft Machine. TV folk often get these things a bit wrong.

You know how some countries have mandatory military service, well I think all camera men who will be filming great guitarists should be required to have at least one year of guitar playing service before their allowed to get behind a camera. There would be like 10 million more likes:) Thanks for the post-really dig his playing.

I have a feeling that we aren't seeing the bigger picture, literally. The film seems cropped: the writing is slightly off centre, ect. But, yeah there's too many liberties taken by the camera guy.

This is as heavy as the earth Black Sabbath, thanks to the bass and drums no doubt but it's amazing to hear Rory Gallagher using so much distortion... Especially in 1969...On a strat with the stock pickups...
I know that back then there already were powerful amps on the market and fuzz pedals and a few boost pedals...But nevertheless his sound is powerful...

    • @bluesoulpaul

Legendary Vox AC30 amp with Treble Boost. Classic sound back then. Brian May always used AC30's with Queen years later. Very powerful band live, I saw them quite a few times in '68 - 69.

Gas. Could this have been Gallagher's first time on TV? I remember hearing an interview when he knocked the live Taste albums that came out after the band broke up, something to do with the choice of tracks. The two songs here were the 1st Rory ever released, as a single with the previous Taste band. The band's best moments to me were Rory's songs, not Catfish/Sugar Mama covers, which were terrible as songs. Yet Rory & drummer Wilson, on seperate ocacsions, labelled them the fan favourites.
