A terrible, unnecessary loss to Ireland and far beyond. World's greatest guitarist , ever, with a true, rich singing voice. R.I.P. Rory.
I absolutely love this piece of film. William Rory Gallagher was humble, genuine and was there for the pure love of his music. Thank you for posting this❤️⭐️👍
The night I saw Rory live. Winterland S.F. Cal, January maybe February 1977. Rory opened for Blue Oyster Cult & Bob Seger. I was a newbie 15 year old guitar player who loved the blues so I was familiar with Rory and couldn't wait to see him live and man was I ever blown away. To this day I've never seen a video of his live shows that equal his performance that night. It was jaw dropping from the opening note until the end of his second encore. Second encore for a third bill opening act? Yep, he killed it that hard and it was like 'screw the other bands, this is what we came to see'! I seriously thought all those lighters were going to burn the joint down. It was like he was on a mission to put his imprint on everyone's brains forever, well mission accomplished, I can never forget that show even 40+ years later. Poor Bob Seger trying to follow Rory that night, actually felt kind of bad for him because he was quite good but the fans were drained and kind of gave him half-hearted applause. Same for Blue Oyster Cult, on any other night it would have been a mind blowing BOC show but Rory kind of put everyone in their proper place that night. The only other live performances that I've personally witnessed that equal that night were Clapton, Johnny Winter and SRV (who I each saw several times but only once played with that type of ferocity and energy). That's saying something folks.

This is wonderful! What on earth is wrong with the currently 17 people who downvoted this? What in the world is there to dislike about live footage and a glimpse into the life of one of the greatest rockers of all time? 🤦🏻♂️
Yes it’s great that this doco is up for all to see. However as good as some of the footage is, it’s annoying that many of the visual clips don’t match the audio, particularly during guitar solos. I get it: it’s rare footage and it’s better to have something rather than nothing, but it’s disconcerting to hear one part of a song and see Rory’s fingers playing a different part of the song. It’s not all the time in this footage, but enough to cheapen the overall product.
@@MisterWade74the audio probably was awful in the original video so they dubbed it over. Unless things are mic'd up, you couldn't really get a decent sound especially back then
@@michelebella677nah, the audio sounds fine and the AV synching is good for the vocal bits. They just seem to have taken random visual clips of guitar solos and put that to the actual audio of the solos. You see it a lot in music videos.
I saw Rory Gallagher in concert in Adelaide in 1975. I had never heard of him until that day. The very next day I went out and bought the live double album Irish Tour 74'. Best concert I've ever been to. So much energy, talent, and great music wrapped up in one band, led by Rory ! Fantastic performer whom I'll never forget. RIP Rory.
Yeah, I saw him in Cork City Hall c. 1974 and , what a master, who's 4 fingers played a constantly evolving 'string quartet ' that came to him from The Divine ! Mozart apparently heard his works as complete and finished pieces but Rory was attuned to the same source and gave substance to the Divine ! I love to think that at least a few of the tracks on Irish Tour 74 were recorded in Cork and guess who was there ? Yeah, me me ME !
I drove all the way from Rolla Missouri on Route 66 to Lil Rock to buy my beloved high quality vinyl copies. My favorite live LP next to Live at Leeds by the Who at their zeneth with Keith Moon on drums and Enwistle giving world class lessons on playing a bass live in action and Get Yer Ya Yas Out by the Stones

Rory and band blew the roof off the place driving the crowd into a frenzy chanting his name after doing 2 encores and making it difficult for DP that night. before the show i didn't know who he was, the next day i bought everything he made and was a fan for life.
His Cork is coming out in this interview ... The word legend is bandied about an awful lot ... but this man .. he was truly a legend. God rest you boy.
Interesting for this former teen (Northern California) to see all these Irish kindred cohort teenagers enjoying this show. We also really appreciated Rory playing for us in San Francisco in the 70s.
A rock and roll artist who gave so much to his audience and drew from such a deep place within his soul is a very hard thing to find. Humans will be listening to Rory Gallagher hundreds of years from now, just as they will listen to Bach, Mozart and John Lee Hooker.
So I woke up this morning and got ready for work. A bit nippy out here in San Diego so I threw on my old flannel shirt. Sat down for a cup of morning wake up juice and pulled up RUclips to kill a few moments and BAM! This video popped up. Miss you RORY!

Yeah I read the bassist’s autobiography and it was a good read. As for him saying, “…one couldn’t ever know or even guess where he was going next…”, well - not to be cynical - but I’d suggest that after chord I would be chord IV, then I, then IV, then I, then V, IV, I, turnaround on V then start again. That’d be a good guess.
What an absolute treat of a video. Watching Rory put every ounce of his energy into every note he plays is just wonderful. Thank you sincerely for the up-load.
...,just the Man walking out onto the stage..just his walking out onto the stage!!....was enough to END other lesser acts...and I should properly say ACTS..because compared to RORY..they were just faking anyways!
@@markstang4593 we saw him open for Fleetwood Mac and Deep Purple, May 5 1973, Wichita KS. I was a kid and didn't know who he was and told my friends I thought he was a solo acoustic guy..... WRONG! He blew up the place! They played maybe six songs. I remembered "Laundromat" and saw it on his first LP and grabbed it in Colorado. It was one of my fondest stoned out rock and roll memories. They played the entire DSOTM over the PA as well and it had been out two months.
There will be a time in history that Rory will be acknowledged as one of the top ten blues rock guitarists of all time. This will be at a time when the past commercial critics will no longer be relevant and the body of work that Rory put out there will have stood the test of time.
Eargasm at 5 minutes 44 seconds, one of Rory's greatest solo's ever! I listen to his music every day and I'm still heartbroken that he was taken from us so young. Rory's music lives forever! 💚🎸☘🎸💚
Caught him in Chicago a few years after this. He inspired many. He checked out too early. I caught his band last year with Davy Knowles standing in for Rory.
Moved to the Netherlands in the mid seventies and was fortunate to see one of his last concerts in Rotterdam in the mid 90’s. Sadly he passed away shortly afterwards !
The genius in his lumberjack shirt - grounded - so down to earth with the most heavenly sound. Glad I found this, reckon this goes back to 'Taste' of which I have the LP. Lucky ain't I!
Just had the 25th anniversary of Rory’s passing, June 14, 2020 and I still remember where I was when I heard the news. Been a fan for over 45 years and saw The Master a couple of times in my youth. Sadly missed by the Blues genre and I’m sure many a blues player have used some of Rory’s techniques in some way. R.I.P.
Rory passed away on June 14th, 1995.. Not June 5th.. I just thought you'd want to know the correct date. I love Rory forevermore.. the superb, wonderful, amazingly talented Liam Rory Gallagher.. Angel Rory.
Great video. Good raw talent. The only problem with this, and the video of Taste that followed it for me, is that it hardly ever occurred to the camera man to focus on Rory's hands. Great to hear him talk, though. One of life's unassuming gentlemen. For Rory it was all about the music.
It’s possibly because some of the visuals didn’t match the audio, particularly during solos. They’ve used “creative editing” in several places in this doco.
I was just in cork. And my family are from Cork also, It was a special moment for me to be there. I could feel Rory´s presence somehow in those streets of Cork. I went to his grave also
First heard and Rory on the old grey whistle test when I eas a nipper in the early 70s mum n dad let stay up to watch it I was 8yrs old at the time and he totally blew me away my favourite favourite tune that he played was walking on hot coals which he played out on in front of a studio audience it was amazing , God bless you Rory , gone but definitely not forgotten ❤
This is such a beautiful documentary. Truly captures Rory's Irish spirit and pride in his country. So grateful for all the surviving Rory footage that we have. His legacy lives on xxx
What an amazing, stormin' version of the Freddy King song 'Tore Down', absolutely brilliant. Have heard this by Freddy, Clapton and a few other bands but this is very different and IMHO vastly superior. Rare to see this line up. Rod De'Ath did join Rory's band shortly after this gig and just after the group was expanded to a four piece, with the addition of keyboard player Lou Martin. They both joined from the British band Killing Floor. Rory's 25th anniversary is on Sunday 14th June 2020. I miss his gigs so much.
He only had another 22 years after this was shot. Dear Rory, I wish you were still with us. I feel blessed to have seen him 3 times at the height of his powers in the early/mid 70s and to have met him once. A very very humble and nice fella who is sorely missed.
Pure legendary speculation. That same supposed quote has been said about other greats, like Clapton for instance. The truth is no one really knows if it was ever said by Hendrix about anyone. Nice sentiment though.
I saw him at the old Colonial Tavern on Yonge St in Toronto (I believe it was the Colonial it was kind of a blur 😉) early '70s and it has stuck with me I was so in awe! Thanks for the upload nice to see this again..
Allanah Ryane, you were so fortunate. Apparently he played a week @the Colonial, also El Mocambo and Exhibition Stadium. I only learned of him recently. I live in Toronto and went to the Colonial a lot.
@@MoroccanMelody Thanks for the confirmation! Always nice to share memories! Was the colonial the one with the revolving stage? That's what I remember sitting close up front transfixed! I was at the Place Pigalle a lot,Heaven disco, Yorkville coffee houses, Bluenote etc

...,just the Man walking out onto the stage..just his walking out onto the stage!!....was enough to END other lesser acts...and I should properly say ACTS..because compared to RORY..they were just faking anyways!
@@mattwhite9823 Maybe you have a tin ear.
I saw him in St Louis in 1979, what a show!
St Louis show in 1979 was at The Kiel Opera House on Dec. 7. I saw him 4 days later in Minneapolis suburbs at a small club.
God bless you, thank you Rory Gallagher and may you rest in peace
There will be a time in history that Rory will be acknowledged as one of the top ten blues rock guitarists of all time. This will be at a time when the past commercial critics will no longer be relevant and the body of work that Rory put out there will have stood the test of time.
Rory King of the White mans Blues we love and miss him so bad!! so real so kind and so full of soul beyond belief !!!
I'm so glad, that I was in one of His awesome concerts in my hometown in the 70s . One of the best live Guitarists i've ever Seen ********
An irreplaceable guitar great, one of the best of all time.
Fifty years since I first saw you at Mothers in B’ham ... once seen never forgotten ... thanks man
Mothers 😊
Eargasm at 5 minutes 44 seconds, one of Rory's greatest solo's ever! I listen to his music every day and I'm still heartbroken that he was taken from us so young. Rory's music lives forever! 💚🎸☘🎸💚
Saw him in Sydney Australia, what a showman and entertainer, guitarman. loveed him. Go Rory.
Caught him in Chicago a few years after this. He inspired many. He checked out too early. I caught his band last year with Davy Knowles standing in for Rory.
Humble, great personality and a genius guitar player.
You were the best Rory.
concerts in the 70,s were a great head banging night, great times.15 and touring with a show band.can you imagine that today.modern times suck
Moved to the Netherlands in the mid seventies and was fortunate to see one of his last concerts in Rotterdam in the mid 90’s. Sadly he passed away shortly afterwards !
So glad I got to see him twice in the early 70s
In the early 70's it was for me Rory Gallagher and and Alvin Lee!
Been a huge FAN since I heard SOUPED UP FORD in 1974, R.I.P. RORY and GARY, GOD BLESS
His tone and vibrato is just incredible
God rest the soul of Rod de'Ath, Rory's drummer 18 June 1950 - 01 August 2014. What a jam is goin' on up yonder!!!
The genius in his lumberjack shirt - grounded - so down to earth with the most heavenly sound. Glad I found this, reckon this goes back to 'Taste' of which I have the LP. Lucky ain't I!
Wooo,! a force of nature
I was fortunate enough to see "Rory" three times in concert in Glasgow, even named my dog after him, what a legend he was, R.I.P. dear man
To short! This Concert! And his live! Rip Rory!
How talented he was🎸🎼🎼❤
This man was a great person and one of the best guitar players there lived. He made such awesome music, R.I.P. Rory Gallagher.
Angel Rory.
Rory babe. Forever young. 🥰 Rod was amazing doing this the first time with Rory and Gerry on stage!
Yeh I rate Rod as one of his best drummers, unique technique, another great musician who met with a sad end RIP
Natural talent..so gifted LOVE RORY..
He's the best EVER.
Man and guitar become one!!!
Rock In Peace Rory!!!!!!
We got ourselves a mention in local paper for going mental at a Rory gig , demontfort hall Leicester, what a gig , will love him forever
incroyable guitariste... un des plus grands... qui nous a offert un rock eternel... on ne toubliera jamais rory
Fond memories of him playing in the city hall in Cork.
It brings back memories from when I first saw him in Newcastle in 1973.
Lovely to see this again. Fantastic Rory and his band.
great video- showing the talents and personal insights of one of the late 60's and 70's BLUES ROCK LEGENDS - Mr. Rory Gallagher.
A true guitar legend. Walking down Patricks Hill to hit Crowley's Music for another Fender!
A great man, influenced great players, I was lucky to see him many times , Rory's music is there forever
Wish he was still around love ya Rory
Play more From Rory i love that guy so much he was Unique RORY!!!
Bez komentara
I was just in cork. And my family are from Cork also, It was a special moment for me to be there. I could feel Rory´s presence somehow in those streets of Cork. I went to his grave also
He became the musicians' musician. A guitar god. We miss you Rory. Thank you.
Brill. His band mates were pretty awesome too 😊 love Gerry McEvoy's bass playing and the way he bopped his head up and down.
That solo by De'Ath as well - electric! Pretty next- level stuff in general actually considering it was his first time joining the side.
Awesome!!!! Thanks!!!! From Cleveland Ohio USA 👋😎🌞
Awesome...I am from Cleveland too.
Columbusite here! Love to my fellow Buckeyes!
Amazing musician. Had the great good fortune of hearing him at the 1970 Isle of wight festival.
I miss listening to Rory. It has been many years. What a pleasure hearing him again. A real treat to see the old videos as well.
So honored to share a birthday with this incredible man
love all the smoking in the audience ! different times.
fuck that....glad times have changed for the better
One of my favorites, truly a legend
Saw him 2x in 1971 while a student at GWU in DC. Both times in a bar/club, one near Dupont Circle, one in Georgetown. Absolutely left me speechless.
One from the best ever and Thank you very much to sending this Gread Video i am Fan since Beginning from this Gread Band ever Gread Band ever.
What a loss, what a talent. Dam shame .We are all robbed of an amazing talent.
So glad that this was recorded...
He only had another 22 years after this was shot. Dear Rory, I wish you were still with us. I feel blessed to have seen him 3 times at the height of his powers in the early/mid 70s and to have met him once. A very very humble and nice fella who is sorely missed.
A revolutionary to create all his own as a history maker. He is so beautiful as born.
This video is a documentary milestone in the musical history of rock and roll
Love the crowd. They were digging it. Wish i had had the chance to see him live.
When Hendrix was asked what’s it like the best rock guitarist in the world he simply said I don’t know you had better ask Rory Gallagher enough said!
Pure legendary speculation. That same supposed quote has been said about other greats, like Clapton for instance. The truth is no one really knows if it was ever said by Hendrix about anyone. Nice sentiment though.
@@92bluestrat Yeah, I've heard the same quote but with Hendrix saying ask terry Kath.
@@ShadowhandofDune I'd bet Jimi said that about many guys, trying to give them their due.
Even Phil Mcghagen
I can't remember which player Hendrix said that about, but it definitely wasn't Rory. It's known that he did highly rate Gallagher though.
What an amazing show at the end of the clip...Rory and his band at its best to me 😍
I saw him at the old Colonial Tavern on Yonge St in Toronto (I believe it was the Colonial it was kind of a blur 😉) early '70s and it has stuck with me I was so in awe! Thanks for the upload nice to see this again..
Alannah Ryane
So agreed🎸🎸☘☘☘
Allanah Ryane, you were so fortunate. Apparently he played a week @the Colonial, also El Mocambo and Exhibition Stadium. I only learned of him recently. I live in Toronto and went to the Colonial a lot.
@@MoroccanMelody Thanks for the confirmation! Always nice to share memories! Was the colonial the one with the revolving stage? That's what I remember sitting close up front transfixed! I was at the Place Pigalle a lot,Heaven disco, Yorkville coffee houses, Bluenote etc
@@AlannahRyane Hi The revolving stage was the Forum at Ontario Place. The Colonial in its day was a great spot for jazz and blues artists. Sadly now there are so few venues to play in Toronto. I worked as a lounge/cover band singer in those days and used to go to Le Coq d'Or on a Saturday for the jams. Nice to hear your memories of Rory. All the best. 🥰
@@MoroccanMelody LOL I thought wait I wasn't that out of it? I looked it up, it was the floor that revolved around the stage! I remembered something was spinning. I also remember BB king my memories are coming back now thanks Loved the d'or!
