Woodturning - $10 Piece of Walnut into Two Projects Worth $$$....?

- Project 1:
In this video I make an 8 ball using American Walnut, Holly, and African blackwood. It was surprisingly a lot more difficult than expected, and took a lot of measuring and double checking to make sure the 8 was in the correct place.
I'm really please with how it turned out. Its been sanded to 10000 grit and finished with Danish oil. I may go back and put a coat of wax on it at some point, but I'm not sure how I will achieve my normal mirror finish as the wood pieces used to hold it kept making the wood.
Project 2:
So the plan for this video was to turn a Christmas tree with last year's Christmas tree. However, when I started to turn this wood it was splitting and tearing all over the place so I decided to keep turning until I got to a usable piece of wood. For some reason, the idea to turn it into a honey dipper came to my mind, and then I thought it'd be a great idea to turn a honey pot. It was totally unexpected for me as my plan went completely out of the window but I decided to just go with it. Sometimes my best work comes from moments like this.
The pot is made from American black walnut that has been sanded to 10000 grit and finished with sanding sealer and wood wax. The lid is also black walnut and the handle is made from Zebrano.
Which is your favourite?

My videos are for entertainment purposes only. Some of my techniques might not be the "best" or safest, so when using any tool or machinery always read and understand safety/manufacturers guidelines first.
And Yes, I'm aware that wearing gloves while woodturning is considered an unsafe practice. The gloves I wear are tight-fitting and don’t have any loose threads. I wear them for the protection of my skin. This is a risk that I am willing to take, however I am still very conscious of the potential danger and I do not touch any spinning parts of the lathe. DO NOT copy my actions if you feel unsafe doing so. Хобби
Which piece is your favourite?
The 8 ball, or the honey pot 😁
Both projects are amazing in their own way! It is very difficult to single out anything. 10/10 for both.
💯👏
p.s. When I prepare something from wood for food, I impregnate the area that comes into contact with the food with natural beeswax. When turning, it is very convenient to use a piece of genuine leather to rub into the rotating product, pressing firmly. 😉
Both are exceptionally well done but I would have to say the honey pot
It’s soothing watching you work. Your machines are amazing as well as your quality of craftsmanship. My husband, W. Brien Pierce was a furniture builder, and loved his working with wood. He did carving as a kid. We were from Lewes, DE. He passed on 6 years ago in July 2017. God bless you and your family. Thank you
Both projects very cool and nicely done.
Watching from Quartzsite Az USA
Love the honey pot. I've never used one in my life, but somehow I need one 🙂
Both objects are beautiful but my favourite is the honey pot.
The 8 Ball was nice, the Honey jar and scoop and lid were a masterpiece !!! Great Job Harry :)
I like both, but the 8 ball was very well done!
Oh, the honey pot is my fave! Both superb work.
Beautiful
Both very nice Harry, I’m leaning towards the number 8 ball though, the contrast with different soecies of wood with the finish on is simply wonderful.
I’d pay $20 for it
Both nice pieces are nice but but the honey jar for me,enjoyed the vedio, thankyou
Impressive
Love the 8 ball!
The Honey Pot!!! Great job Harry!!
Love both of them!
Honey pot. Beautiful.
the 8 ball is cute, and kudos on a ROUND sphere, but the honey pot is the exact depiction of woodturning. (crowd roaring in background)
I love both!
Great as usual Harry!
Que habilidoso que sos, me encanta!!!!👏👏👏💖💖💖🇦🇷🇦🇷🇦🇷
As always your work is just wonderful. To me, it's priceless. Such talent is special in the woodworking world. God bless you and yours always Mr Smith! Thanks again for everything you do!!
Both are wonderful
Really enjoy watching
Fantastic Harry. I will go with the 8 ball
Great job Harry. My favourite is the honey pot. Keep them coming.
I love the honey pot!!!
You make it look 👀 so easy! Must be TALENT!!
There both priceless harry. Well done that man.
Loved the honey pot! You are so very talented!,
Very nice work! My favourite is the 8 ball!
Great video HS, I like the 8-ball, though it is more decorative than the honey pot, which has daily practical uses. Maybe if I drank tea and used honey often, that would be my fav. Cost? Worth?...good question, depends on the demographics and how fast(badly) you want to see them, I guess. As an artist myself and a 'maker of things' (and also a fiction short story writer) making things is the easy part, marketing and selling is an entirely different game imo.
I love walnut!! ❤️
Beautiful work. Hard to say between the two. Both are beautiful.
Both are quite nice, like the 8 ball.
Perfect job, thank you so much for great video
Both pieces are great.
Eight ball is my favourite, but both are beautiful!
Both are very cool.
...both are cool, Harry...love that grain!!!...
I'll have to go with the 8 ball...great idea with the different colored woods...👍
Matt
I got a whole tree with a base diameter of 15" of black walnut. It's still a little wet but it's a great looking wood
Very nice 👍
Very nice
Hi Harry, The black walnut is a really nice piece of wood I like grain and colour of It. The nos 8 ball is really cool and I like it well done but my favourite item is the honey pot. Either way I think your woodturning is magnificent and you are very talented all your pieces you make are fantastic and are priceless, they are worth what ever you ask for them. Amanda xx
It’s worth the price of the wood. 🤓
Both are great...both I would say 100.00..dollars
Gotta be the 8 ball as I'm always behind one. 🤣
Wow bagus sekali
The eight ball, I would want the whole set for billiards, but I would pay 20 pounds for the one ball, several hundred for a set. The honey pot, lid and dripper...35 pounds? Beautiful work.
cute honey pot, but I ;ike the 8 ball better . Both turned out great though
That’s awesome. What tool did you use to slice the wood before sawing off the rest please?
Both r awesome. The honey pot is my fav. How much u sell for
In my market you could expect $25-$30 each
They’re both gorgeous but I like the skill involved with the 8 ball most. I love the dark Walnut too. I don’t know what to charge in pounds but in US dollars I would say $25 each.
The honey pot. I don't know what prices they can be. I have absolutely no clue.
I hope you used beeswax in the honey pot finish. Kind regards.
The ball. But how do you know it's perfectly round?
Hallo. Witch Band Saw is it. It’s sensationell.
How can one choose? One is 10 the other is 11-1.
both
Since many times I have been behind the 8 ball, I'll have to choose the Honey Pot. But in actuality, I like both turnings. Very nicely done. However, when I see gloves being used in wood turning, it makes me cringe. I've seen too many industrial accidents caused by gloves. Thanks for sharing.
Subtitles are not available. It's a pity...
The thickness of the 8 is off
Сними перчатки! Опасно!
Write in a language that people can understand..!
There is now way that piece of wood only cost $10!
Can't watch people on a lathe wearing gloves or any type of clothing that jeopardises their safety. One catch nasty catch is all it takes and your turning days would be over!!!😩 Been turning for many years now and have seen some really bad incidents!👎
Hi, I stopped watching at 1 minute. Viewers like to jump right in to the work. Just my opinion and try to keep under 10 minutes. Good luck
