Most people who aren't partisan hacks for either side can admit these two things:
    1. Obamacare has done some good.
    2. Obamacare does need some major fixing.

My suggestion - as a progressive - is that when progressives are, as I've seen a LOT of lately, counting John McCain among our allies we need to pop the brakes, take a step back and seriously consider what's become of our movement.
What do we actually STAND for right now beyond "Fuck Trump" and "Fuck the DNC"?

These people have been obsessively been at it trying to get rid of this thing (Obamacare in this case), fighting tooth and nail for years, and then when they finally have the authority to get rid of it, they stop and think "why did I want to do this in the first place?", realizing the consequences of what doing this may entail.

Thing is, this was put forward as a budget reconciliation amendment. They may only require 50 votes, but they can only be brought forward once a year. If McCain had voted not to advance the bill, then McConnell would've tried again in three months. What he's done is completely fuck over McConnell for the rest of the year. McConnell now needs 60 votes to pass the repeal for the rest of the year, and he won't get those 8 Democrats to flip.

I can't afford insurance outside of the marketplace and the coverage I can have subsidized (free) is a joke with a deductible of thousands, so I choose to not participate, because fuck giving the insurance companies money for care I won't be able to get due to huge deductibles and being poor.

McCain never was on the fence about it and his killing the repeal was not primarily about personal vendetta. His vote to proceed and and then let it fail was actually the only way to get the job done. The pressure on Murkowski was growing too strong for him to hold out any longer. He obviously saw this fit to put an end to Trump's legislative craze and force congress back into a somewhat more rational discursive/bipartisan mode (even with minimal expectations). This is what he's been talking about for half a year now whenever anyone stuck a mic to his nose...

As I understand it, the individual mandate is the counter-balance to the requirement of hospitals to provide emergency care to people regardless of whether they can afford it or not. Without something like an individual mandate you'll have people without insurance paying nothing into the healthcare system but reaping the benefits when an emergency happens. This jacks up prices for everyone because hospitals are then forced to charge more to offset their losses. Thus, as a whole we're better off with the individual mandate. Of course, it's just a bandage on fundamentally flawed system in the first place--given the extent to which prices are already being gouged by the corrupt health insurance market--but you already know that...

Am I the only one who thought his Mitch McConnell impression was on point?

Sad thing is .... most of the Repubs want it the way it was before the ACA (make America great again). Now that more people know the ACA and Obamacare are the same, repeal and replace doesn't have the same meaning as it once did. People are becoming more informed...which is a hazard to any politician. Trying to do things on the sly is next to impossible nowadays. You can't take back an entitlement once given, only improve upon it.

Anyone who responds to any argument involving polls with "but the polls said Hillary was gonna win" needs to be punched.

We always say "far right" to refer to anyone not left =P
    It's redundant.
