Obamacare created a pseudo monopoly where healthcare systems and insurers can inflate as much as they wish. Medicare for all would create a situation where instead of a hospital negotiating different rates for different insurers (claiming each one is the rock bottom best they can do), they would only be dealing with the government, most likely driving prices down. Politicians and pundits will of course start screaming about how raiding taxes are only answer, and people will buy it, since the majority are unable to see beyond the false dichotomy presented to them. The taxes (if they needed additional for funding) could be applied to pharmaceutical companies (during opioid crisis the idea of taxing each pain pill was presented and swiftly shot down, but something similar). Or I may be wrong or over simplifying
First we need health care providers (hospitals, etc.) to stop charging exorbitant fees. Good luck to anyone who's unfortunate enough to be hospitalized even for a short time. Take a look at the itemized bill... there's the whole problem with the U.S. healthcare system.

I went to the hospital. On January 2, 2019, I had an exam early in the afternoon and I expected to be back home for supper. But after looking at the results of the exam, the hospital personnel said "We keep you". I came back home on February 20th after heart surgery. Then there was a complication due to a prescription error and I was taken to the hospital in an ambulance in dire emergency in the second week of March. My heart stopped... After it was re-started, they kept for me another 3 weeks. There were kinesitherapy, medication, surgery, readaptation, a long convalescence. Back home, I benefited of two months of home care by professional nurses. Now I am healthy and feeling well. Guess how much it cost me? Guess first then keep on reading after... Health care is a consumer good. Subsidizing consumer goods is not a great business practice. Obama subsidized the Chevrolet Volt with 2.4 billion for the car and 60 billion for GM. GM is now bankrupt. Soooooo should we do the same with healthcare?
It is also easy to point fingers and blame people for a failing empire. I think Obama just followed his direction from John Podesta and some economist that he nodded at during the bailout news conference. Trump was running for a wall to stop the child trafficking at the Mexican border. So far the border has been rebuilt bypassing the Hotel September and other $7/hour room brothels. Mexico has also invested on their side. Unfortunately it is our tradition to take advantage of the world so even if we change the route and look, human trafficking will exist in relation to economic disparity.

mahdogzbite I agree with this. I live in Canada and we would never give up what we have. I don't think we pay more because we cut out the insurance costs...the money for health care comes out of our taxes and not out of our pockets For example, the man whose deductible is $2000....that's about $500 less than the average cost per person for health care where I live. And that includes all prescriptions, co-pays, supplementary insurance fees, and dental. $3400 per person in Canadian dollars. The problem is the insurance. It isn't actually paying for care and they pay those premiums whether they get care or not.

Describe healthy competition. Not everyone lives in an area with multiple healthcare providers. Also, in an emergency, you can't tell the ambulance where to go. Or ar least lower the price what kind of country is this why do I have to pay like over $6 for a band aid in a medical setting
I'm a 71 year old African American Army retiree and find it difficult to understand the degree of hatred that exist in America. The Antic Shop owner was a glaring example of that hatred even though it may have saved her life! Dr. Martin Luther King once said, "THE TWO MOST DANGEROUS THINGS IN THE WORLD ARE SINCERE IGNORANCE AND CONSCIENCIOUS STUPIDITY!" Senator McConnell said the very night President Obama was elected that he was going to make him a one term President and pledged to NOT WORK with him. I served under many Presidents and Officers in the Army and NEVER took my opposition to their leadership to that level of outright hatred! The insurance industry is all about profits in America and they don't want "AFFORDABLE HEALTHCARE"!! The Republicans know this and play silly little games with the most vulnerable and collect fat campaign checks while telling their constitutes a damn lie!

I just hope we're all still around.

Ok, no. Calm down. Bernie is as much of a socialist as Rosevelt. You just pulled the rug out from underneath yourselves. Good job.
It usually happens when you pull yourself up by your bootstraps.
Edit: I'm guessing that @Cameron Sipka deleted his or her comment. When I wrote the above statement it was a "tongue in cheek" remark referencing the eponymous "bootstrap" philosophy that I've heard touted as a justification for not helping others all of my life. While I'll acknowledge that it is appropriate in some cases, I've seen it applied as a cure-all for far too many situations that were far outside the purview of "bootstraps" and more along the lines of "This person requires assistance." I fear that many of the people who will suffer under the upcoming administration will be the "bootstrap" crowd. I don't look forward to this possible eventuality with malevolent glee; instead, I feel sad about what I may witness in the upcoming years.
Hard for people to pull themselves up by their bootstraps when they can't afford boots.
My wife went through 2 abdominal surgeries in 2014. We didnt pay a dollar for both of them. My 57 year old unemployed neighbour slipped on ice and broke his hip. He had surgery immediately... didnt cost him a dime. I'm proud in the fact that I belong to a tax-system where healthcare is a basic human right and not dictated by one's financial situation. We may pay a bit more tax than the average American, but I would gladly do so if it means those less fortunate are taken care of when they get sick.
I am never moving from Norway.
mahdogzbite I agree with this. I live in Canada and we would never give up what we have. I don't think we pay more because we cut out the insurance costs...the money for health care comes out of our taxes and not out of our pockets
For example, the man whose deductible is $2000....that's about $500 less than the average cost per person for health care where I live. And that includes all prescriptions, co-pays, supplementary insurance fees, and dental. $3400 per person in Canadian dollars.
The problem is the insurance. It isn't actually paying for care and they pay those premiums whether they get care or not.
How about Great Britain? I don't know how cool we are, but our healthcare is first-rate...
If you and your neighbor are not paying for your medical treatments and procedures, who is paying?
Margo Channing
Not the insurance companies who deny basic health care for the penniless, thats for sure.
But to answer your question, society paid for everything. And with society I mean all of us. Even my neighbour who was a bus driver for 28 years, he paid too.
Rich because of oil, let's not fool ourselves that all the countries have the natural resources of Norway (and the small population).

How do these people they interviewed who were all over 50 think that they are going to get cheap health care from Trump? Where does the money come from to pay for it? Are they going to raise income or payroll taxes? Health care costs money especially for older Americans.
they already pay for it. unfortunately their state and federal government is completely ran by third parties that leech our government dry. weapons manufacturers who lobby for war, then provide arms to both sides of the war, and lobby to keep it going. the money we spend on our military could provide healthcare to everyone in our hemisphere, and have enough leftover to still be the most overfunded and deadly military on the planet.
TheGerm24 just like buying a car.. to get a cheaper price for the car you want you have to shop around.. when there is competition for a client then the prices will drop.. right now there is no competition.. there are monopolies in some states and they charge an arm and a leg for their health care.. because they can and you don't have a choice..
healthy competition will lower prices overall.. simple as that..
TheGerm24 well,it should come from the rich paying more taxes....but that will never happen
Describe healthy competition. Not everyone lives in an area with multiple healthcare providers. Also, in an emergency, you can't tell the ambulance where to go. I think increased price transparency and competition would help lower healthcare costs, but it is far from the full solution. I'm more talking about healthcare costs not just insurance rates. They are related but not exactly the same thing.
