With three weeks until the Tokyo Olympic Games Marathon, Team USA representative Molly Seidel tackles a set of 6 x 1 mile + 4 x 400m (with around 2minutes recovery) on the track at Sedona, Arizona. Seidel shares training gear insights, fuelling strategies (tomato ketchup?) and a little more on her Olympic Games preparation.

And one shoe that sounds like it has glue stuck to the bottom of it :D Fancy editing with loud music is distracting. I like this style better. Like you are there with them. I watch backpacking videos as well and some have a lot of loud music overlays. Not good as far as I'm concerned. But it can be done tastefully. But then I dont often train with music.

I used to do this type of workout as a weekly tempo session, minus the 400s. 3x2 mile threshold, with 5 min very light jog recovery. Very nice feeling at the end if you can properly relax into them...like you've really accomplished something for the day but not ruined yourself. Only running them at 5:40ish though, not low 5s like Molly!

He’s taller than Molly. The taller a person is, the less efficient they are with a short stride. As long as he’s working at the right effort level when hitting the proper splits in workouts and races, his form is not important.

I'm guessing the gentleman in gray who takes the lead as the three run is Molly's coach. Is that right? Is his reponsibility to be Molly's pacer and to let her draft off of him? And does the gentleman in the yellow shorts have any official capacity as well?

No, I’m pretty sure the two guys who were helping her are just her friends. Her coach was not there on that day, he just told them what the workout was, and they just did it by themselves. The two guys just helped Molly out with the pacing to make sure everything goes well

Molly looks like she’s running an easy 7:00 mile pace while the yellow shorts guy looks likely he’s running a 2 mile race.

Some people form are just bad no matter how fast they are going. Have some team mates that look like they are dying from the first step.

The guy I'm back is like a plow horse as he heel strike and over strides. You can actually hear the clomping sound. Molly does high cadence and yet is so pure and relaxed. Such an inspiration, even to a 64 year old who can only dream of what use to be but still enjoys running and racing in the Senior Olympics. Even if my fastest time are probably Mollys warm up! 😂
