Yamato called herself a man not because she identified as a man. But rather, because she admired Oden, and Oden was a man. If Oden was a woman, she simply would not have identified as a man. This was super obvious, and the manga made it super clear. I had no idea why these people hijacked Yamato like that. I get it that some are desperate for representation, but come on, make a comic yourself and give it trans characters, leave other people's art alone.
Comics that overly focus on "muh representation" tend to fail though, since they usually forget to include good characters, good plot, and good writing in general. Sometimes they even forget good art lol.
It's because these people like to grasp at any straws for "representation". Instead of making that representation for themselves they'd rather impose it on a popular character. It sounds stupid as fuck because it is
because it's obvious to those who have enough common sense. Remember, you're dealing with people who love taking everything out of context and twist it all around in order to fit their narrative by any means necessary. Like the people who took Samus and her tomboyish attitude and called her Trans meaning Smaus was either born male and turned female (which based off the manga that's been proven false) or is someone that will turn into a male (which we have zero confirmation on that happening as well)
they say that because not only because Yamato does it, but Kaido's crew as well as man himself does as well. Its directly implied from reading the arc that Kaido wants yamato to be the new shogun of Wano a title that is reserved for men, and only his men know that Yamato wants to be Kozuki Oden so he goes along with Yamato's delusion not because he is some accepting parent but because it suits his end goal. But yea people on twitter are dumb, the show/manga has plenty of trans rep just not Yamato.
"Oda's just transphobic and doesn't respect his own trans characters" They're HIS characters, ffs! God I'm getting flashbacks to the twitter idiots calling Horikoshi a homophobe just because he said that Deku isn't bi.
It's hilarious because Ivankov is basically the ultimate transgender/genderfluid character. Calling Oda transphobic is evidently showcasing how badly they're afflicted by terminally online brain rot.
It's because twitter freaks consider their headcanon to overwrite reality. Like when they call certain characters from various games "canonically lesbian", despite the game not mentioning their sexuality. They've "decided" that these characters are a certain way, and not even the creator of the character can tell them otherwise. Honestly the people throwing around death-threats should have their accounts perma-banned and they should be referred to the police. These people aren't mentally stable.
They want Yamato because she’s the next biggest candidate to become a Straw Hat, even if she only joins at the end. They couldn’t care less about the side characters that end up doing nothing like Kiku. They want their representation to be big and important, part of the main cast, because it’s ultimately an extremely narcissistic wish fulfillment thing with them.
Wait, people wanted deku to be bi? I think some people get too invested in their fanfics, to the point they want their twisted fantasies to be real so bad and bitch and cry when they’re not. I see it in every fandom and usually i see it om twitter lmao
Crossdressing does not necessarily make you trans. Putting on a dress or makeup doesn't mean you identify as a woman. Hell, back in the 80's many of the top metal bands wore more makeup, hairspray and frilly clothes than the female popstars and they lived dangerously lascivious lifestyles with scores of groupies. We've raised a generation where every belief is all or nothing; affirmation or outrage.
Dont forget that even bugs bunny also cross dresses from time to time to do a devious stunt. This doesnt make him trans, but hes doing this for comedic purposes because he has something to gain or some other random reason. A male or female character cross dresses the opposite sex doesnt make them trans.
Don’t worry I’m here from Twitter to rewrite history and tell you that all those people were ACTUALLY trans and that you’re transphobic to suggest otherwise
Every single actor in Roman and Greek time would have been trans they were all men playing women you can still see it in movies and TV shows today just look at Robin Williams all the women he played
I have a trans friend that has actually moved away from anything to do with the trans community specifically because of stuff like this. Quoted straight from her, "Why should it matter what anyone else is? They always want to complain that people get a say about what goes on in their pants, but then throw a fit about what's in someone else's pants."
It's a good thing some part of the community even start to distancing themselves from those toxic brain rots, who will never be able to save the community by attacking others for not agreeing with their idea.
Yamato was never trans. The only reason she claimed to "be" male was because she was literally _role-playing_ as Oden, someone who was male. If Oden had been female, Yamato would have called herself a woman. It's _literally_ the same thing as when an _actor_ plays a character of the other gender.
And there's Okiku who identified as woman, and her brother Izou, who is a man but dress/ use make up like a girl. Both are interesting characters who written nicely, but twatter still says Oda as trans hater.
Imagine having your whole personality based on whether or not a character is trans. Imagine WATCHING a 1000+ episodes because there's a trans person in the show. Imagine wanting someone dead over a character they wrote. I swear these people aren't real. How can you function as an adult thinking like this? You have to think everyone and everything is out to get you.
Bro start following random news stories from random cities across the world and you'll realize how unhinged the majority of the public is. I would argue after working in retail for about 6 years, that one and three people that you encounter is a very small issue away from completely popping off and going full psycho. In the last two weeks we've had six people escorted out of our store in handcuffs over exceptionally minor altercations. Like being told that a sale tag was expired, or that you can't take pictures of our sales associates. People are fucking nuts. And social media gives people that are fucking nuts the ability to be seen by tens of thousands of more people than they normally would, and then potentially receive positive affirmations for their Psychopathic Behavior.
You can only think Yamato is trans if you don't get how honorifics work in Japanese. They have dozens of them and they change based on context too. Yamato is never once referred to as a man, but rather tomboy. A particularly masculine tomboy, but a tomboy none the less. There is absolutely no translation that works, so boy and son are used for the sake of simplicity. Which is odd because we have roughly 1000 ways of describing some ones junk, but not a tomboy.
@@tessfabled4115 It depends on the context. I know it's a lazy answer, but we're talking about a language that changes meaning depending on if it's written horizontally or vertically and whose words can change meaning depending on about 1000 different factors. I'm assuming in Big Mom's case they were referring to her extremely respectfully or at the very least speaking with knowledge of her standing in the world.
Yes this is so true. Im watching this arc on a webstie right now and the subtitles use "he" or "his" when yamato is referred to despite the actual lines using "aitsu" or "sono" which are unisex terms. I searched this video because it was actually pissing me off like goddamnn.
Seeing people making death threats to the literal CREATOR of his creation they're inputing their headcanons on is concerning. But this has always been normal for Twitter.
Well, I'm not surprised. There's a lot of people with the mentality that once a piece of fiction goes out there for the public to see and enjoy, it's no longer just the creator's work but the fans too. And this mentality has entered into US entertainment. So these "fans" think they actually own Japanese works like One Piece and Zelda. So to them, their headcanon is canon. By mentality, I mean people who think they are allowed to change what someone else has created. Like attempting to make Link a trans canonically, in the offical stuff. Sorry, if that weren't clear to anyone. Stuff like headcanon/fanfiction/fanart is fine though, I'm not really against it. Just against it being forced onto the creators and official work.
@@mnArqal93 That isn't a mentality. That's a fact about creating something for others. It's no longer entirely your work. You may have creative control over all of it, but it no longer belongs to you alone. Once it's out there, it belongs to everyone who enjoys it. That's the point of creating something for others to enjoy.
@@Kyo_Sasaki It doesn't matter how much you enjoy something, you never have the right to tell the author that your personal headcanon must be respected. The author is the one creating the work, not the fan. The movie "Misery" was probably a good representation of most of these twitter idiots.
@@Kyo_Sasaki but the original creator still has all the rights to alter a character in an ongoing story and the audience has no right to send death threats no matter how "controversial" the said change is 🙃

I don't agree on this because there's a difference between in-universe canon and OOU commentary. IE it doesn't matter to me if Rowling wants to say years later if Dumbledore identifies as gay - unless the book itself said that before he died, I don't care.
@@AXELweirdTigger As much as Idgaf about HP, I can still tell you: it doesn't matter what you think is or isn't canon or reasonable even, it's not your IP but theirs If Oda or Rowling somehow say tomorrow that everything you read from their respective universes was a dream of a flying whale, then that's it, that's what it'll be - you may not like it, you might think it's stupid, but it will still be the official canonical ending of that story I'm sorry but it is what it is, I don't agree at all with the kind of fans that think "they know better" than the actual author, that's nonsense, no matter how invested you are in a franchise it doesn't give you the right to decide anything about it, that right is solely reserved for its creator, if you don't like it you can ignore it or stop being a fan but the fact of the matter is: author's word is law
I mean he could just off her in his story, whether it be realistic or not. It's his story to interpret and present to an audience. It's a story not a game in beta.

not even an exaggeration. Every day there's a new theme to complain about. The most common are Ages, and sexuality. Sometimes I feel better about myself because I'm not these people who are so i obsessed with this stuff.
They've tried telling Hero Hei that he's trans but "doesn't know it" or "doesn't accept himself " or something like that. It's hilarious they lable people without accepting what the person themselves say

I still don’t think Bridget should be trans. Trans representation is cool and all but it’s so out of move. Bridget wanted to return to be a male again, but instead now in strive Bridget is suddenly “oh I wanna stay a girl” out of nowhere. If it was teased over the games then I would’ve been fine with it. But Bridget was absent for so long. But who am I kidding, daisuke’s work, it’s not gonna make me like Bridget any less. I just hope there will be less people that play guilty gear strive just because Bridget is trans

We now know that the LGBT community do not exist because the Ls, Gs, Bs, and Ts can not stand each other, and the Ts are trying to replace them before the Nashville school shooting where a woman dressed as a man killed 6 people.
To add on: Vivre Card said Yamato was female. Oda officially titles her as Oni Princess. Oda made an artwork where she is a Oiran (high class female prostitutes) Oda's own notes on Yamato among other things describe her "Strong demon girl" or how she wears a mask so people dont know she is a girl. One Piece held an official campaign for female empowerment, featuring Nami, Robin, Boa and Yamato. Even all the way down to merch where Yamato is part of the girls collection. Guess who is also part of the girls collection along with Yamato? The actual trans character, Kiku.
What confirms Yamato as not trans is that Kiku character says heart of a woman. But Yamato does not says the same for her..and i think it was on the same vivre card.
@@chicopluma Damn right. Queen Iva is the ultimate in representation, having surpassed the pitiful sex and gender barriers to create a new human, the Newkama. All Hail Queen Iva! YEE HAW!
@@chicopluma I don't think Iva is trans though, more like he's a gay man that is (I mean quite literally) gender fluid. Most of the people working under him are trans though of course so there's still lots of representation.
Yamato is just a vehicle to these people, same as Naoto, Chihiro, Bridget, etc. They latch onto a character that fits their specific politics, or has enough leeway for them to claim their politics exist in said character. Then when they see positive messages or fan art about said character or that said character is popular in general, they essentially get a moral high by proxy. “Look, this xyz character is loved and accepted! Which means people love and accept xyz!” When people disagree or dispute said character they take it as a personal attack because they genuinely believe what they spout is the morally good thing and if you disagree with xyz, you are the devil. But people want to escape from real world political bs in their fiction and for the vast majority of people, they don’t want or care about what twitter/tumblr peeps care about.
That's why they can't stop shouting "everything is political!". Every second we spend escaping reality is a second that we aren't hearing them. And they can't tolerate not being heard.
God, the Link one just hurts. Been playing thorugh Tears of the Kingdom and with what happened in that that I've seen so far plus everything in Breath of the Wild... Jesus christ, he's been through enough, he doesn't need this.
I always found the debate around Yamato's gender to be really stupid. She never corrects people about her pronouns or that she's a man, just that she's Kozuki Oden. She sees herself as some legendary guy she learned about, specifically him. If it was Oden's wife who tried open Wano and died, then she'd probably do the same. Her whole character arc is going to end up being along the lines of "I'm not Kozuki Oden, and I need to find out who Yamato really is!" You know, stop trying to be someone else, and be yourself kinda deal.
@@rwg6357 for real and I'm not trying to dog on yamatos character but I don't understand why so many people liked her.... the whole I want to be kozuki oden was so f****** annoying and made no sense and she comes in at the beginning of the battle Arc of Wano, there's not that much room left for interpretation for character growth at that point....... if yamato was introduced much earlier in the arc and we would have seen her motives and potentially seen her as "herself", we could have potentially had her on the crew because of that....... but yeah going back to the what you were saying about her being insane even though she knows what's up I got that feeling from her too and it's like what the fuck Oda what are you doing with this character

It's truly mind boggling that they can't grasp the simple fact that Yamato "identifying" as a man is supposed to be a joke. There are already Trans characters in OP, Kiku and Ivankov to name just a few. It was supposed to subvert the expectation. We kept hearing about Kaido's son, turns out Kaido's son is a girl, then she proclaims herself a man, then she explains "Because Oden was a man, and I decided to become Oden, therefore I'm going to be a man too." Then it all came together and we were SUPPOSED to go "oh, wait a minute, she's not trans, she's just an idiot."
Ohhhhh, if you knew the reason why children and adults today say they're trans, that would be one of them. Young girls in puberty doesn't like to be sexualized so they "transition". Some of them were even influenced by manga, e.g. young girls self inserting in BL wants to be a man to be with other men thinking they'd be in those kind of relationships that they read; same is true for adult men saying they're lesbians; etc.
Being trans is a trend nowadays. Just wait a few years and most of them will run out of that phase juice. I was like 14 when I started identifying as a man and it stopped until I turned 18-19 because I started liking this guy and I wanted to look cute in his eyes and also the fact that I fell in love with girly shiet meanwhile having that weird phase. Nowadays I'm only preoccupied with my hobbies and job and graduate school. I didn't wanna join even in those online progressivism because not only is it cringe but it gives me my teenage flashbacks
Remember when these same people were saying we need to accept Bridget as trans because that's what Daisuke said? Well Oda said they're a female and not trans, so by your own preaching you got to accept that. EDIT: I'm gonna end with this one joke. Legend of Zelda: Twink's Awakening.
@Glass Water It doesn't make sense because Bridget was never meant to be "trans." Bridget called himself "girly" in the japanese GGST. The EN version removed the "y." It's the California branch, and weirdos like Sonicfox pushing this "trans Bridget" narrative. This whole "Bridget was trans from the start" from Daisuke is a lie because he didn't even write Bridget in the first games he appeared in. In the same interview that mentions she her pronouns they said they received a lot of inquiries about Bridget's gender from the west. Arc got bombarded with emails. Japan already knows Bridget is male, which is why they were pissed seeing westerners push Bridget as female.
They making death threats now. Twitter really underesting the anime community. They poking the wrong bear like that. Anime community got more "quiet" kids then I have milk from my dad.
That's the thing about this community. They so heavily believe in the lie that badly, that they will kill anyone that opposes one iota of their beliefs.
It is a sad exitence when you have to push your existence so badly that your very existance depends on it... it's even more sad, dare I say insane when people give out death threats when they are told No.
"The difference is, one identification is coming from Oda and the other is coming from the character himself" That's the most schizophrenic thing I've seen on the internet today. And I've seen several schizophrenic things off of reddit in the last 12 hours.
The people who wanted to go on and on about Yamato being trans don't really understand the character situation. She does NOT identify as a man because she has gender dysphoria. She identifies as the person she deeply admired and respected so much as a child that she wanted to identify as him to show her way to honor him. She even changed her name to his own in a way to be closer to her idol. The concept of it is completely lost on these people because they're so desperate to have something to latch onto in popular media that they've become completely unhinged and others just join in thinking they score some brownie points for being good allies. That's why you get situations like Yamato, Bridget and Mahiro. They don't understand that anime characters have always played loose with identity and relationships because real people's identities doesn't cross that creators mind. They just want to make something fun and tell their story their way. They make characters that identify as whatever the story demands of them, not because they want to cater to specific people. I've learned a long time ago that these people doing all the complaining don't really care about story or personality. They only care about identity. They care about latching their own personality on something so they can feel important and in their mind believing that if a character is like them then they are inspiring people to be like them so their own existence is worth something. They look for acknowledgement from others through force rather than actually working to make it. They're just broken people looking for validation and are used to getting it their way looking at how vile and desperate they act when it doesn't.
To be more precise: Oden is a symbol of freedom for Yamato. Oden actually resisted Kaidou (her father) until his last breath. Oden died being boiled alivd and still tried to save his retainers and people. Meanwhile, Yamato is actually being tortured for decades by Kaidou in the severest way imaginable. People would actually get murdered if they gave her food, he put Yamato in a cave to starve and felt nothing as she begged for her life and put explosive cuffs on her so she can't even run away.
I'm gonna stop you right there. You started off with a misconception and misinformation about trans people. Not all trans people suffer from gender dysphoria, and you don't have to have gender dysphoria to be trans. Anyway, you can correct yourself at any time, if you want to.
*(**10:57** - **11:05**)* Naoto Shirogane from _Persona 4._ Not only does the game _explicitly_ spell it out _multiple_ times that she _isn't_ trans, but the fact that she isn't is the entire _point_ of her character arc. _"My sex doesn't fit my ideal image of a detective... Apparently, there's a subset of people in Genshin community who seriously believe Scaramouche is trans (beyond just leaving it as a headcanon). All because he's a puppet who was modelled after a woman, and he wore feminine/gender non-conforming attire when he was Kabukimono, so people believe he started off as a female and then identified as a male. While I think it's a neat HEADCANON, there are people who genuinely believe it and that he's genuinely 'trans-coded' or something by the creators. The whole Yamato calling herself a man thing is part of Japanese culture. It's a thing seen in many different anime, manga and even historical dramas. A woman calling themselves the "Son of 'Insert Name Here'" is a sign of respect and reverence towards that man, which is usually their actual father as well. Anyone who actually spends any time reading about Japan would have understood that.
"One is coming from the character and the other is coming for the writer" No, BOTH are from the writer. Yamato isn't a real person. Yamato is a bundle of ideas from Oda's mind that he has constructed to resemble a person. Everything Yamato does comes from the mind of Oda.
I might not be remembering this correctly but I think Oda put this to rest awhile ago in one of the One Piece SBS issues. Someone asked him to clarify on Yamato's gender or something along those lines and he basically said that Yamato identifies as Kozuki Oden, nothing more. It has nothing to do with her gender identity. It might not have been in an SBS but I swear he already addressed this.
There was a character card as well way before this stuff made it to Twitter where it listed Yamato as female. Even in the recent chapters of the manga apparently Yamato has started being addressed as female and has been reintroduced as Kaito’s daughter. So if they were really all about that transphobia and misgendering people, they’d start calling Yamato a woman because that’s what she wants.

Is it not better for Yamato's character to identify as who and what she actually is? Herself. She's been trying to be Oden for 20 years instead of be herself. They don't care about that of course because their interest in Yamato as a character is entirely superficial.
Remember when this people claimed old Guilty Gear fans couldn't be against Bridget's gender change because she was confirmed to be a girl by the game's creator? Look at how the tables have turned now
Oh for the love of all that is sacred… Link dressed as a woman to sneak into a village of Desert Amazonian women where no men are allowed to enter. Link is a literal stand in for the player. Yamato is physically woman who was abused or neglected by her father because he wanted son, not a daughter, and treated her horribly because he desperately wanted a son. Yamato took the name of the one person who defied her father to continue that person’s legacy. Why are there so many ignorant fools on Twitter?
How can these people say that "theyre welcoming to all people" and then do shit like this. He is the writer, he can do whatever the fuck he wants, and that includes taking this stuff away from every single person who are "fans" of it
It's amazing how these people can read the manga, read the full context on why Yamato called herself a man (literally took on the identity of person out of respect) but then goes on to say she is trans even though nothing in her story hints at being trans and the kicker is there is actual trans characters in the story. People take minor stories in one piece and miss the big picture.
@Higgs Bonbon 😂 that’s a stupid assumption indeed. No. I just hate black propaganda and require evidence before I condemn anyone because I believe in innocent until proven guilty. 🤷♂️ Not sorry that bothers you. But you would think with all these death threats there would be arrest records for them and Twitter “reporters” like rev and hero would be all over that? Right?!?
My head cannon is that Bridget never decided that grooming is cool and stayed the course in deciding who he was. Oh shit, that makes me a- Also, I’m really annoyed at this crowd deciding what gender people are when they see certain things. I own a few kilts and like to wear them, but I would get pretty angry over someone saying I’m trans because I put one on.
In the manga its they call her daughter of kaido, but even after faced with facts multiple times abiut her gender they still refuse it... twitter freaks at their best as always
FINALLY!! I am sick of that argument! It was almost ruining one piece for me. I do like the character (named myself after her after all) and found all of this mind boggling. One piece has LGBT characters (Bon clay, Ivankov, O-Kiku, all other Okamas) and twitter doesn't care about that. Thats how you notice that they don't really care about the thing they are crusading about. Thanks for listening about my rant guys, keep it fizzy!
@@magneric exactly this. And the fact that they just call Oda (the Author of a Manga whose literal deeper meaning is "don't discriminate minorities") transphobic gives me a migraine. I'm happy that i only see Twitter through rev.
@@magneric Exactly. Freaks are not interested in whether or not Oda is actually transphobic or not. They are simply fishing for any perceived slight or "misstep" to dogpile on someone to make themselves feel good. The dopamine rush of spewing hatred and being rewarded for it by their peers drowns any sense of reason and decency. If these people were actually interested in making a difference for trans people or any marginalized group, they would be out on the streets protesting. But why do that when they can vent all their frustrations and insecurities anonymously and from the comfort of their own home at the expense of the groups they claim to represent.
@@yamato9753 They also ignore those other characters most likely because Yamato was a fan favorite to become a Straw Hat in the future and if they can't have the Oni Princess then no one can. Hence their insanity on Twitter and threats.
Twitter freaks can’t tell what’s transphobic and what isn’t lmao, it’s funny but also sad and annoying (I’m aware this is nothing new btw). Just because a character they thought is trans isn’t trans doesn’t mean the character’s creator hates trans people. Edit: Another thing I wanted to add is femboys and tomboys have nothing to do with being trans. I haven’t seen One Piece but it’s clear that Yamato is a tomboy.
Its implied in Tears of the kingdom that Zelda and Link share a house in Hatano village, that only has 1 bed, and Link only sleeps in beds that belong to him or an Inn. So he is definitely sleeping with Zelda every night since breath of the wild.
It is a royal, nuclear facepalm by saying Oda's transphobic. He actually has a character that can change the gender of a character physically with his Devil Fruit power.
It's endlessly amusing to me that all these people need is a man to put on a dress for them to call them trans, and yet if they ever saw anyone try to define a transwoman as a "man in a dress" they'd be the first to lose their shit.
Finally the Yamato is trans debate is over Jesus Christ and all that just because she said is Oden... Edit: forgot to add that in a lot of Japanese manga/anime parents specially dads usually raise their daughters as man and as such they refer to them as son not daughter.
These people are aware that Oda writes the story right? So it’s literally what he says goes. It’s Oda’s characters and story. As a fan of One Piece I need these people gone.
I have once dressed up as lady gaga for Halloween because I couldn't think of anything more scary in Highschool. But I'm pretty sure I identify as a man not a manly man but just a man.
please don't bash on Daisuke, Daisuke has scruples and stuck to his guns, he never caved into making Bridget trans like everyone thinks he did - that only comes from cherrypicking his interviews
@@AXELweirdTigger he sold out, dude , he even tried to excuse himself saying this was the plan all along when he said a couple times before in the past that he just wanted something more than a cute girl archetype and made Bridget a boy.
What someone perceives to be true even when they are told the actual truth questions their mental state. And when the creator is the one who gives the truth then they threatened violence for disturbing their fantasy? We live in scary times.
You know i actually dislike when people call Traps trans. As a veteran weeb and anime watcher it really bothers me because one it places ideas onto character who can't defend themselves and two because most "trap" character are either forced to crossdress because of the way they look, or for just the sake of comedy and that has nothing to do with who or what they identify as. And hell even the characters that crossdress on their own are only doing it for the sex appeal like Astolfo from example, he only crossdressed for his cousin lore-wise and even it the Fate lore he just doesn't care what he wears and is just in a skirt for the hell of it. Traps were so fun and entertaining character concept to see but now it feels like a war every time.
@Execute Crab-21 dude Traps literally only got two Reasons Of existence: Comedy and Appeal to the Kind of Otaku that Unironically find them Appealing. Not all Author that insert traps on their Series are doing it as a Some sort of Secret Mocking. It’s not that Deep.
@@TheGreatEric02 ah dude that's the thing, trap characters have nothing to do with trans people though. Especially given the fact that a "trap" character can exist from prospective alone. Take the Link from Zelda for example, that femboy crossdressing picture of Link is someone idea or perception of what Link could look like as a trap. Not that Link is a trap, that was never the purpose to his design or character but it could be through the right lens. Now think about that Astolfo example for a second, highly unlikely but what if someone saw him and just didn't think he looked like a girl even with girl clothes on? Well is Astolfo still a trap to that person? I don't think so because to me the very definition of the anime term "trap" can be sum up to attractive crossdresser or something like "this character is so attractive that I could disregard a taboo for me from just their appearance." Which has nothing to do with trans people whatsoever.
@Execute Crab-21 so you just be bullshitting. Considering you just got done saying these cisgender crossdressers in anime are some sort of anti-trans catcall or whatever, I'm not surprised.
@Execute Crab-21 It is comedic for a cis man to wear feminine clothing. It is not comedic for a trans woman to wear feminine clothing. You do not understand the difference.
The most bizarre part of this whole debate is there are ACTUAL trans and gender-fluid characters in One Piece and these activists are getting so hung up over Yamato when Yamato herself has explained that she wants to Be ODEN not a MAN. This is type of insanity is exactly why I have tried to distance myself from the LGBTQ community because it’s all toxic people.
This actually shows how some people apparently really think that fictional characters are real. Why would you differentiate this much between what a character says and what a narrator/ textbox states? They do know that both sentences were written by the author of the story, no matter what kind of box or speech bubble it appears in...right?
I thought of something else that’s worth mentioning about Yamato and Link. When Yamato called herself Oda when she introduced herself to Luffy, he checked her chest and the focus was squarely on her divine chest before he told her to stop joking around. The anime/manga, and to an extension Momonosuke, was telling us that “Yamato is a woman and she has larger than life tits”. As for Link, there was a meme not too long ago that defined Link as both the most bottom femboy and an unstoppable force of masculinity in hentai. Also did people forget that Linkle exists?
They’re the same kind of person to yell at people and call them transphobic because they didn’t call Astolfol “she”, when it is clearly shown that Astolfol is a man but he just looks feminine as fuck.
I explained this to people and I got death threats and called faked trans and almost doxxed, just because I explained Yamato’s story (she my fav) it’s so sad to see they did this to oda and I hope he doesn’t change her, the son of Kaido thing was made for Plot but not develop pretty well, it was kinda poorly made but It had to connect Yamato’s will to complete Oden’s mission in wano not really complex to understand but twitter loves headcanon and not analyze things
I'm liberal af and have no problems admitting that, but even I knew this. There are clearly trans characters in One Piece and Yamato isn't one of them. She's hero worshipping Oden, wanting to be Oden, and doing and saying everything to play that part. "Oden was a man so I became a man too" isn't gender identification, it's hero identification.
It sounds stupid as fuck because it is
Oda literally has trans characters in One Piece, yet they focus on the one that clearly isn’t. *sigh*
because it's obvious to those who have enough common sense.
They want their representation to be big and important, part of the main cast, because it’s ultimately an extremely narcissistic wish fulfillment thing with them.
the literally have o-kiku
Prefer to say as crossdressing but yamato refer as crossnaming
literally dude. Just to give another example, i'm a man, i like to crossdress because it makes me feel pretty and happy, and well i'm not trans
When Twitter users claim to know more about a character than the character's own creator. A classic.
I think it's just taking the characters own words at face value.
I have a trans friend that has actually moved away from anything to do with the trans community specifically because of stuff like this. Quoted straight from her, "Why should it matter what anyone else is? They always want to complain that people get a say about what goes on in their pants, but then throw a fit about what's in someone else's pants."
Good for her, that she distanced herself from the community
It's not Twitter's business what goes on in my pants but they want to know
It's a good thing some part of the community even start to distancing themselves from those toxic brain rots, who will never be able to save the community by attacking others for not agreeing with their idea.

Yamato was never trans. The only reason she claimed to "be" male was because she was literally _role-playing_ as Oden, someone who was male. If Oden had been female, Yamato would have called herself a woman.
It's _literally_ the same thing as when an _actor_ plays a character of the other gender.
the entirety of wano was arranged as a kabuki play. Yamato, denjiro, komurasaki, kanjuro were all playing characters.
Basically she's LARPing out of town because of how much you respect him people who pretend like they have a brain like Twitter

Something that SJW will never understand
You can only think Yamato is trans if you don't get how honorifics work in Japanese. They have dozens of them and they change based on context too. Yamato is never once referred to as a man, but rather tomboy. A particularly masculine tomboy, but a tomboy none the less. There is absolutely no translation that works, so boy and son are used for the sake of simplicity. Which is odd because we have roughly 1000 ways of describing some ones junk, but not a tomboy.
From memory Big Mom is referred to in the same manner? Or it might just have been the honorifics she used lol.
@vinsoid8485 yea its really stupid when Franky calls her a man after meeting her for a few mins.
@@mnArqal93
That isn't a mentality.
That's a fact about creating something for others.

@@AXELweirdTigger As much as Idgaf about HP, I can still tell you: it doesn't matter what you think is or isn't canon or reasonable even, it's not your IP but theirs

I'm sorry but it is what it is, I don't agree at all with the kind of fans that think "they know better" than the actual author, that's nonsense, no matter how invested you are in a franchise it doesn't give you the right to decide anything about it, that right is solely reserved for its creator, if you don't like it you can ignore it or stop being a fan but the fact of the matter is: author's word is law
I mean he could just off her in his story, whether it be realistic or not. It's his story to interpret and present to an audience. It's a story not a game in beta.

Wise words, except they don't follow their own logic they just make others do.
It's truly mind boggling that they can't grasp the simple fact that Yamato "identifying" as a man is supposed to be a joke. There are already Trans characters in OP, Kiku and Ivankov to name just a few. It was supposed to subvert the expectation. We kept hearing about Kaido's son, turns out Kaido's son is a girl, then she proclaims herself a man, then she explains "Because Oden was a man, and I decided to become Oden, therefore I'm going to be a man too." Then it all came together and we were SUPPOSED to go "oh, wait a minute, she's not trans, she's just an idiot."
no such thing as trans just nutjobs think their something their not
Ohhhhh, if you knew the reason why children and adults today say they're trans, that would be one of them.

I hate this in general from any media when fans are mad that the creator didn't make a character or story the way they wanted.
To be more precise:
Oden is a symbol of freedom for Yamato.
Based truth!.
I'm gonna stop you right there.
You started off with a misconception and misinformation about trans people.
Not all trans people suffer from gender dysphoria, and you don't have to have gender dysphoria to be trans.

The Bridget controversy only gets more and more nonsensical the more you dig,it's fascinating:
-Daisuke has said in previous interviews that he outright rejected being involved in Story Mode for both GGXX and GGXXACC+, the games that gave Bridget his iconic personality.
-Bridget appears in GG Vastedge, a CANON pachinko game 5 months before the events of Strive, and in that game he says "I want to be back to my village as a boy" and "Cute is unnecessary,I'm a man", but now in Strive the curse was broken years ago?
-In a couple interviews about the development of GGST, they admit they aimed their efforts towards a global audience and they had been getting advice from the California branch.
-Daisuke tried to cover up the retcon by saying he always planned this end for the story but "society wasn't ready for this vision", but instead of doing the trans story when it would be brave and stunning he waited 20 YEARS without build-up.
oh,and in a 2009 interview Daisuke described Bridget's development as " . I thought it would be too boring if the character was just cute, so I thought it would be interesting to make the character a guy "

No, BOTH are from the writer.
I don't think so because to me the very definition of the anime term "trap" can be sum up to attractive crossdresser or something like "this character is so attractive that I could disregard a taboo for me from just their appearance."
Which has nothing to do with trans people whatsoever.

How are people trying to tell the creator of the character that he is wrong???
These are his characters, he can do whatever he wants with them. But these Twitter freaks don’t seem to get that.
Such a tolerant and accepting crowd.
This people are mental? Oda create whole kindgdome of trans for no reason. And he is transphobic? WTF?
I'm liberal af and have no problems admitting that, but even I knew this. There are clearly trans characters in One Piece and Yamato isn't one of them. She's hero worshipping Oden, wanting to be Oden, and doing and saying everything to play that part. "Oden was a man so I became a man too" isn't gender identification, it's hero identification.
I always wondered why people kept saying she is trans and was like where is the evidence
YAMATO IS FEMALE!
Can we get that 41% higher?
