Its 1 hour and 23 seconds into the video before she mentions her late husbands passing. Up until that point you could be forgiven for assuming he was at home with the kids or working. The way she talks so candidly and vividly about chad is beautiful. Its the way she says "HE IS" instead of "HE WAS" that truly shows that he's still with her and that she's carrying his torch forever more. ENLIGHTENING.

It’s crazy how this podcast hit the hardest for me among all the other ones jocko has done. Gulag, Unit 731, WWII, Vietnam, ISIS, etc. These stories involve an incomprehensible number of casualties and death in its most disturbing form. But hearing a story of one man in great detail from his wife post mortem was even more disturbing to listen to. Similar to the Auschwitz survivor, when you focus on the story of one person you get a true picture of the horrors of war.

Jocko is everything Washington and the broader ruling class despise. We needed a Jocko 20 years ago. At this point, we need a new president, a new congress, and a new supreme court. The FBI, CIA, NSA, EPA, CDC, IRS and secret courts (to name a few) need to be scrapped and public interests reevaluated,, with emphasis on bureaucratic accountability to the people. The DOJ needs to be replaced and a train of prosecutions need to begin. Our government is simply corrupt and advancing nefarious interests. Changing the president is important, but it's like changing the steering wheel on a car that barely runs and might kill you.

Following up on this a little late. Junior Seau had CTE. A neurodegenerative disease caused by misfolded protein in the Brain. This disease has been greatly linked with repetitive brain injuries. Sara's points surrounding brain injury are 100% spot on. Likely Chad was suffering from post traumatic injury... This is why I am on the PHD path to focus on traumatic brain injury and neurodegeneration. WE NEED more awareness. For our active military, vets, for our civilians, for everyone.

This resonates on so many levels and oddly timely for me. Living through back to back trauma does meet tolerance. Then, mix an aberration health issue or another trauma can be disastrous. We have to be able to get to the point of understanding that we all do the best we can with the information she have at that time. If we knew better/more we would have done better/more. Sarah/Jocko-
I was on the West Coast screening trip when the Training Master Chief (Bill King) and the Green Team/S&T LCPO (Dutch VH) briefed Chad's SQT class. The DEVGRU CO wasn't present. In fact there were no officers from ST6 in that brief. It was Bill and DVH. For the record Bill King was totally against Chad screening for the Command. It was actually DVH who spoke to Chad and DVH who ultimately got Chad into Green Team. I thought you would appreciate knowing exactly what happened. FYI I served with Chad in the same Troop in Blue SQD. There was no finer man then CW to serve and operate with.

My wife would say the same thing.
"You dont even listen to me". She would be talking and I didnt register a single word. Then one day she got in my face and asked "what are you thinking while Im talking you!?"
When I explained that I was picturing the sight, sounds, and smells of a mangled body or the drama in the look of a teammates eyes, it was clear that I was having flashbacks. When I explained what I had on my mind, the look of horror and disappointment on her face told me the mistake I had just made. How do you explain and put that on somone you love? You first instinct is to shut up and shield them from that.

My younger cousin, a former Marine, has been gone just over five years now... I was one of the few people in the family he would still talk to and I guess because I'd been in also and I was there for him and he just did this out of the blue, drunk, infront of his girlfriend he was in the process of moving in with and they were fighting over b.s... It was fucked up... It fucked me up. I think if he'd not been wasted it wouldn't of happened. Or maybe if I'd kept up with him more as what he was feeling but he didn't get that deep with me often about inside stuff. I did with him, some... Fuck man I don't know.
