I have to start by thanking Shawn Herbert for his excellent animation and filming on this. I think we created something pretty special together, and I'm really happy with how this turned out.
I've always loved this song and always loved Van Gogh's art, so when I learned that Shawn had some animating skills, I thought this would be the perfect project to let him do his thing. He really killed it, and I'm so grateful for the time he spent on this.
I had the privilege of going to the Van Gogh museum in Amsterdam last year, which was a thrill. Conspicuously (and sadly) absent from that collection is "The Starry Night", which is in New York's Museum of Modern Art. I plan to pay that painting a visit this fall on my trip to New York (where I'll be performing with Jeff Hall on 9/29/17 www.brownpapert.... And while I can't bring the painting back to the Netherlands with me on the next trip, I can at least bring this song. :)
I'd also like to thank Don McLean for this beautiful song. It's a masterpiece in its own right.
And thanks to you for listening/watching, and for helping spread the music.

My dad recently passed from anal cancer. In his last days he enjoyed your music very much. Thank you for giving him the gift of beautiful music before he passed.
My daughter doesn't like this kind of song, but when I bought her guitar and play this in front of her, now she understands why old songs like this are so precious, the beautiful meaning of the song and the plucking of string that you can't hear now a days.
Now she knows how to play the leader of the band.
When she played this song at her school, at first when she says she's going play " The Vincent " everyone was noisy and shouting what is that. But when she starts to playing the guitar everyone was listening.
After the program, everyone shows respect folk music.
Playing folk music is not easy.
During my time we don't have tabs or internet where we can learn how to play songs. All we do is to listen play, forward then rewind. That's how we get chords.
I'm so proud of people who can play music like this.
Ok this is one of those special rare occasions where such a heartfelt masterpiece is actually covered deeper and with more emotion. McLean poured his soul into the lyrics and was at his songwriting prime when he made this perfect work of art. Mike Massé has managed to pull out every ounce of creative interpretation and vulnerable phrasing in his vocals all the while recording flawless acoustic tones and passages. We probably won’t see anything even close to as good for a very long time.

As a musician myself I just have to say this is beautiful. I agree, Mr Mclean wrote a piece of art with these lyrics and and music, but to bring the feeling into the song is rare. Ive heard many people over the years attempt to, and couldn't. I have never tried. Im Glad Mr Masse did. Not only did he capture the emotion of those lyrics, he also in a technical sense , actually showed how complex and unusual the musical keys and passages are on the guitar up close. If it appears easy, LISTEN to the original. It is NOT. I assure you I studied with the late Howard Morgan. I won't go into it here but I will tell you he told me that I would have to wait to truly understand the technical aspects of this song and how its executed. Brilliant Mr Masse. You now have a new fan.
Play it in E flat, it's a whole new vibe.

It occures to me that in the dark of the studio where you performed this piece, in conjunction with Vincent's art, you sort of resemble the artist. I mean that with the deepest respect for you. Can we please appreciate that we live in a time where discussion about mental health is more or less normalized? When this song came out in the 1970s, discussion of mental health was basically unheard of (Vincent van Gogh was bipolar, and the song actually somewhat references that; it constantly jumps back and forth between positivity and negativity, or, as Billy Joel put it in Summer, Highland Falls, which is also about bipolar disorder: And as we choose between reality and madness, it's either sadness or euphoria)
