- Old Top Gear 1991 - Jeremy Clarkson looks at some older Lamborghini's and takes a look at the new 20th Anniversary Countach. Taken from season 14, episode 12.
As you go further back into the Top Gear archives, Jeremy's hair just gets bigger and bigger. I can only imagine that, as a child, he was a hedge that made noise.
Hahaha. I misread this at first as, 'he was a hedge that had a nose' hahaha
was Clarkson ever young?
He came out of the vagina at 40 years old.
It's struggle for a while....
he must have been soo annoying a as child! All those witty smirk remarks!
No, but he was always an insufferable moron.
@@PurityVendetta hey he's our *insufferable* moron
keep these old top gears coming in mate. thanks for the uploads.
Thanks!
he did the same race when he tested the murcielago lp640-4
Not a huge coincidence considering the popularity and relative “performance” of the gti at the time, but still interesting comparison considering this review predated the vw acquisition of lambo
music is priceless
It is the same music. It's sung by Matt Monro. Just one point : in TJB the Muira doesn't fare too well
Lamborghini was so far ahead of his time
Miura is the Legend
🇮🇹
Sant'Agata Bolognese's pride
At first due to the old Grandstand thme I was expectingthe Excellent David Vine or Good John Inverdale to appear.
Leave it to the woman at the end to ride the clutch for a couple hundred meters and put the equivelant of about 4,000km on it as she took off. I can smell that burnt-almonds-broiling scent from here.
something else came out in 91' besides need for speed and the great diablo, the perfect NSX
Jeremy did the same race with the golf gti after about 10 years when he did a race between the Lamborghini murcielago and the golf gti the same race and he say the same word. This is how much new top gear copy the old top gear.
music at the start? what is it.
soo how many seasons did the old top ger last?
90's fashion sucks....! What a tie !!!
1991, it was still fashion from the 80s which was even worst than the one in 90s
This kind of suggests that people only go shopping once a decade... how do you know he didn't buy this outfit the same year?
home to sparrows, robins and hedgehogs.
In the old days they complained that they could not be driven, now they complain that the aventador CAN be driven. Damn it, decide!
+SalveMonesvol SHUTYOURMOUTH
Eric Smith Right
+salveMonesvol you're so right about that. Typical humans. I remember almost every car review loving the lambo but complaining about the drive. Now it can be driven and they're complaining yet again. AMAZING
wow. amazing comment. true true.
Back then we expected cars to be better than the previous car. Now we expect certain cars to remind us about the previous era and or be fun to drive. Chasing speed and numbers is no longer the aim of most enthusiasts. The bugatti veyron is a perfect example of something fast yet boring.
If 20 years sounds ancient, consider this:
The Zonda is about to turn 22.
Yeah that beast grew up. As a kid I was so amazed by how cool that looked. I still can't afford it in real life so I use it in Gran Turismo instead lol
@@leftright6054 I remember selecting it in a game and being shocked at how slow it was. Next to an Enzo or Koenigsegg, it was a snail.
Turns out the original C12 had an engine straight from a '91 S-class limousine. Yeah, they had a nice exhaust and a tune, but you could do that on a limo, too.
AMG helped them out with that.
Wait what...
@@shorthub3445 The age or the potato engine?
The C12S had a much improved version of the same engine punched out to 7.0 liters and quite a lot more power.
What if Lamborghini made a special edition of this special edition and then made another special edition of the special edition of the first special edition and so on😂
Why does Clarkson sound so posh back then lol?
Different times, different BBC requirements.
@ab c Paddington Bear was actually created by a BBC Cameraman called Michael Bond. Clarkson’s mum managed to get the license to produce the soft toy version.
The little bear sold in the millions which must have made Mrs C a pretty wealthy lady!
You had to speak like that if you wanted to work for the bbc
Diablo is a real beauty, but still the Countach is a choldhood dream.
The Diablo looks like a drug dealers car.
Exactly
James may had the same desire for the countach
ruclips.net/video/CQndMc4_RQU/видео.html
Love the Countach. The Diablo was the first of Chrysler messing about with the designs.
Countach was also a drug dealers car
Im sure ive heard the same soundtrack in some vintage porn movie..
Now you know who the one asking "What's the name of the song?" was
Ha Clarkson used to have an old "bbc" voice
I love how when Jeremy tested the Murcielago he payed homage to his test of the Diablo.
"Colonel Gaddafi's got one you know.." YOU KNOW! He said it too!
Jeremy looks good with An Afro
Tracklist
1:05 and 2:31 Quincy Jones - On Days Like These
3:04 David Bowie - Space Oddity
6:48 Bad Company - Bad Company
On Days Like These - made me smile to remember that song played on screen with Miura in the beggining of the Italian job. Nice little touch :)
Love Bad Company.
I like how James repeated the sunbathing joke when he did the countach XD
James?
James May, you have seen Top Gear right? ;)
piramaniak watch the video, James or Jeremy?
piramaniak :)
Yeah i just noticed that when i went through a bunch of Countach video's.
Might be a joke within a joke, or just lazy writing, but it was funny nevertheless :)
You know what was absolutely the best in old top gear series? The MUSIC!! Awesome
The difference between the. Lamborghini and the ferrari is the literal personality. Ferrari cars are Full of passion yes but at the end of the day you know its a car.... The point of a lamborghini is the fact that it isnt easy to drive. Its meant to be feisty, its meant to feel like youre a bull fighter and the car is the bull.... You have to grab it by the horns and show it whos boss... You have to fight with it. Going fast in a lamborghini should be literally a fight for your life in a feisty italian bull. And when you walk away from it you damn well know that its a living entity and not just a car
***** its easy sure but its not accurate, reports suggest that its still more blunt than a ferrari. but a lambo is really all about the engine and then the style.
+Mr. 0 Only if you leave the ESP and TCs on. Turn it off and the Acentador is Biabloe reincarnate...
It's a driver's car vs a posh football's toy.
Hmm, Anyone else notice the drag race between this and the GTI is exactly like the one he did between a Murcielago and GTI about 15 years later. Only difference is that VW now own Lambo
god his hairs reminded me to shave my pubes
"It's the diablo, and it's the fastest car in the world"
oh boy
wow.... 3.9 liter V12.... they make 6s in 4.0s and above. Times have changed
Yes -not to mention we have many affordable cars these days that can do 0-60 in the 5 sec range reliably, with half the cylinders or less!
These are the Clarkson reviews that made me love cars.
He had the emergency brake on at 2:26 when he took off lol. Gotta love Jeremy!
When I saw it I thought I wasn’t the only one ..
I could swear magazine writers complained about the early Diablo, because it had the same heavy clutch and steering as the Countach. It was a big deal when Lamborghini changed that, with the upgrade to the Diablo VT.
My neighbour had a Anniversary model in a G reg. It was white with red interior. It sat rotting for years under a cover, the tyres were flat, moss growing on it etc, he’d fire it up once in a while and I loved sitting in it and pressing the throttle. It did sound a big gooey at times but never used. He decided to sell it a few years back and I knew he got £34k for it. I think I saw similar but in very good condition for around £350k lol.
I’m honestly just amazed Jeremy even fit in a Countach, let alone have leg room enough to drive it.
My favorite Lamborghini ever is the original LP400 Countach. My least favorite Lamborghinis are all the other Countaches. I guess I'm weird that way. The only Lambo that's really come close to the Countach for me is the Gallardo LP550-2 (non-Balboni versions). The last RWD Lambos with a stick, and my favorite interpretation of the modern styling language. Honestly I'd rather HAVE the Gallardo because it's a better car, but I can't have any Lambo, so I prefer to LOOK at the LP400.
Ill take the Lp5000 anyday
But....But....The Miura is awesome!
'Colonel Gadaffi's got one you know'. God how just a decade changed the presenting style so much of ALL presenters.
+Just a Quad What a huge mistake it was to get him out of power.
+8x5t3e7s4r6y it's a sad world when we come to the conclusion that it was better when animals like Khadafi and Saddam were in office. And these were truly barbaric.
+8x5t3e7s4r6y Hence my comment ;)
Damn I miss the diablo... it sounded and looked so good. I hope they'll bring it back someday
No rear visibility... due to the first rule of Italian driving, whats behind you does not matter. 10 Points if you know what movie that was from
Gumball Rally. Give me my points!
Mike Coleman Here is your 10 points, Merry Christmas!
***** lol I guess Shelby Cobras are important ;)
Kuson2 Better looking too!
Nah, the lack of rear visibility is surely due to Jeremy's hair... ;)
I remember when this was transmitted.
He also wrote a page in a Car rag and talked about the TV spot you just watched...
It took a load of takes to get the Lambo to leave the golf off the line... The golf is easy to drive and launch off the line. The Lambo you have to get the revs right and feed the clutch right or it either bogs down or just spins its tyres.
Yeah if you aren't accustomed to supercars or a race trained driver, good luck not doing 360s.
Hard to believe it was that recently that 200+ MPH was unusual. I still remember reading about the Diablo for the first time in the Guinness Book of World Records in 1991.
112 hp was a fast car? wow times have changed a lot
Also the Diablo was the fastest car at the moment, nowadays you may have 20 or 30 cars faster than it (or even more)
Hell, any Joe Shmoe with a bit of extra cash, some talent, a garage and the ability to order parts from Jegs or Summit racing can build a car faster than that. Hell, go to any podunk countryside village in any country and you won't have to search for long until you come across a random tuner who tuned his 1980s Golf GTi to 2000 hp using spit, duct tape and spare change.
Means fuck all. The Aventador is Lambos newest car and not too many beat that.
Not all about speed young fellah! Its about desirabilty, pedigree, Rarity and sheer want factor. Its not all about speed and tuning. These are handcrafted exotics.
Tommy Orr Jr then I'd say that the Noble m600 beats the Aventador
Lmao! The second Clarkson popped his head out that window, and I saw that hair, I died!😂
6:42
They made the exact same scene with the exact same words years later.
There was always a golf GTI but instead of a Countach there was a Murcielago
Love this
Lamborghini was always my favorite and always will be
What is that GORGEOUS jazz piece that is played throughout this video?!!!!!
I wonder why he is always saying 'koon-tash' instead of 'koon-tuck'?!
At least he got Lamborghini part right. :-)
...because that's how it's pronounced...
You know that for sure, or it's just wild guess?!
I'd rather hear confirmation from some native italian speaker. :-)
Well, strangly but I got answer today from native italian speaker (from region of Bari) who said its not 'koon-tash' as speaker here said, but: 'kon-tak'
Did the Mura look as good in 1991 as the Countach looks today?
corvusala Till this day, Miura is the most beautiful car in the world if you focus on details (wing spae, bull horn doors, sideskirts ...)
1966 The Muira and it was the first mid engined road car!!! And yes it looks way better than the Countach... its timeless. The Cuntach is a dated wedge.
dam!, top gear was in 1991??
They they were also 80s
Abdul Hameed 1977
"The difference between a fast car and a Lamborghini" Damn
Also man when he says "every 19 yo male with a moustache that looks like an earwig" Like holy shit dude Jeremy Clarkson mentioned me 9 years before I was born
RIP David Bowie tho
Is this for real? I had no idea topgear was this old, wtf with his hair 😂
No its CGI
6:16 But in 1994-2004 the McLaren F1 was the fastest car in the world (befote the bugatti veyron was made, which is the production car to hit 400 km/h)
The drag race was remade in the murchielago lp640 review with a newer gen golf
Thomas Amundsen yeah also noticed that, pretty fun
i like how theyre implying that the LM is too big for London and these days every other car there is this size.
i get shocked just as much each time i see jeremy's 'fro even though i know its coming when i watch these old episodes. i also remember seeing a red lm002 as a kid driving around hwy 6 in houston. very rare car. but, jeremy, just get a hmmwv.
6:41 yooooo, Clarkson did the same thing with the murcielago and the new golf GTI. Omg iconicccccc.
Darrel hannah could be sun bathing on the back and you wouldn't notice... a joke he recycled some fifteen years later in middle Top Gear.
Back then I think you could have gotten that Miura for less than the Diablo. I certainly know which one I would pick then and now!
Man I love that Diablo. Especially before they put a spoiler on it - with the wheels that this one had. It looked so unlike most cars with the driver stuck right to the front of the car and like 2/3 of the car being engine and rear wheels. I had a poster of it on my wall when I was a kid along with a Countach and a Porsche 959. I don't mean to say the Diablo's my dream car, but something about the way it looks still does it for me even so long after it's been out.
Anthony Mancini i wasn't even alive in the days of the countach but its my favourite car... lamborghinis' especially older ones are just the business when it comes to cars
Get one there cheap dude
But the countach just neeeds the big wing that does nothing but look badass.
A friend of mine has both the countach and the diablo, well his dad does anyway, and the countach just kind of does it so much more for me. If you sit inside you really can see the italian saying "ah, that's good enough leather right there".
You can hear the fuel valves opening somwhere behind you if you press the pedal when the engine is not running, the big spoiler is glued together from two big parts and there is a big hump right in the middle where they didn't care to get rid of extra glue before they painted it, it's hilarious, if you bought a car today, even some dacia, that wouldn't happen :D
The Diablo is miles better quality wise, it was one of the lasts models from 2001 when audi had taken over before.
But it isn't even half as loud, although being so much faster
I never liked the look of the original Countach because the width of the body made it look like it had bicycle wheels.
Epic hair from Jeremy lol
I've driven every car here, from the Miura, LM002 to the Diablo. Though I am 189 cm I still love the Countach best. I knew of the heavy clutch, but I was surprised that the gas pedal also was monstrously heavy.
the female dogged the clutch at the end. Typical.
Who got this recommended in 2021
Diablo and Countach look amazing.
idk but this just makes me laugh and jeremy's hair oh god...
what's the song at 5:30?
Ouch, that anniversary edition Countach did not age well... The others hold up nicely though, imo.
Rest in heaven colonel gadaffi
That was the theme tune from BBC Grandstand... not Top Gear.
wow nice gti
“It’s called the Diablo, and it’s the fastest car in the world”
Oh how times have changed👌🏼
Gumball rally
man i always loved the lines of the countach. Such aa beautiful design
This is the king of the bedroom wall poster
the muira reminds me of an old gt40 from afar it looks like it
30 years on and the Countach still looks gorgeous, Jeremy less so... :-)
That Miura is goosebump-inducingly gorgeous.
The Lamborghini Countach 5000 Quattervalvole is my fav lamborghini
I'll take the Miura please
funny he called the golf a fast car :)
Viva italia
Wouldn't take a Countach if you paid me. They are unbelievably ugly as fuck. The Diablo was a phenomenal step up in design and the start of a steady stream of very sexy cars. If I could have a Murciélago SV, I'd be the happiest man alive.
Wow I found it amazing when I saw what they did with the Diablo and the Golf GTI because I had just watched the Lamborghini Gallardo top gear review and it had the exact same script and set-up.
the murcielago*
Adil Ahnaf Noon thank you
Jermey looks good in a Afro lol
+Teflondonavelii662 Nah ! Thats a furry helmet :)
The Miura is one of the most, if not THE most beautiful car in history. The only cars that could beat it are maybe the Mercedes 300SL, BMW 3.0 CSL, Aston Martin DB4 DB5 and DB6, Ferrari 365 Daytona, Jaguar E-type, Jensen Interceptor FF, Toyota 2000gt, or one of the old Porsche 917s. But personally I believe the Miura tops them all.
Love the tractor in the background. Nice touch. xD
They never was a 1991 lamborghini countach.
1989 was the last year. And they finished out the 1989 production Part of the way into 1990. But they were still listed as a 1989 .
That's why they had 1989 and a 1/2. But there was no 1991 countach.
1990 started production of the Diablo.
I'd almost forgotten what a total pillock Clarkson is.
I don't know about the anniversary Countach, but the QV that preceded it had a decent-sized boot, albeit cowering beneath the enormous wang. It was bigger than the luggage space of any modern city car.
He also failed to mention that the LP400 that was in the start of this clip was from 1974, not 1971. It took them an extra three years to get from the concept to an actual production car. It was during this time that the Countach grew those ears, as they discovered that having the radiators lying down meant that they couldn't keep the engine cool. Setting the radiators upright forced them to add the extra cowling, or have the radiators sticking up above the bodywork.
Haha, my electric 7 seater famely car beats all of these cars, the diable included. I love my Tesla!
Odd Arne Roll
You didn't get anything!! DB!!
Nope, he got it. You did not. In 2030 there will be no piston engines around in passenger cars anymore.
But a Tesla wont get you laid.
To compare the two is completely ridiculous ofcourse Roll.
And if youre driving 600km at high speed the 30yr old Lambo would still beat you there since it fills up in 5 mins whilst youre sipping coffee at the supercharger.
Hopefully, slow suckers won't be driving cars at all in your 2030. Get a new mean of transport to get off the roads if you like electric vehicles and slow driving.
"They went and stopped making [the LM002]."
According to Wikipedia, the last model year was 1993. The first model year of the Diablo was 1990.
Miura was 25 years old when this episode came out . This came out 30 years ago. I wonder if the miura in the episode is still alive .
'in 71 everyone was driving around in mk2 cortinas - the countach was as bigger leap forward as the harrier jump jet was from the horse.' LOL classic clarkson...
The miura is more comfortable and easier to drive day to day. Countach is a good looking racing tractor. No thanks.
