The Aygo, Citroen C1 and the Peugeot 107 all have a ticking that gets better as the engine warms. It can be noticeable when accelerating hard and will disappear as you let your foot off the gas. Some even do it from new and is nothing to be bothered about, there's thousands of them out there with this noise and it's just the way these little engines are. Some say it's piston slap because the pistons are short and some say it's down to the VVT. There's several video's on here about it and plenty of info on the City Bug forums. Big end bearings from my experience don't tick, they usually Knock or rumble. You have probably wasted your time changing the bearings but without hearing the sound it was making I can't say. We have an Aygo and it's made a ticking sound all the time we've had it and usually when accelerating hard, just cruising it's as quiet as a mouse. There's a C1 in the family and that's the same and my neighbours Aygo when they had it was also doing it. Nothing to worry about and will keep going for miles, important to use the correct grade of oil as this can make it worse. I use 5W 30 but some have used 10W 40 and found it is a little quieter. We prefer to keep to the Toyota spec though. There a great little car and will give many mikes of cheap motoring and are very robust engines that will stand to be abused, just keep it well serviced and it will be fine. Many thanks, I've subscribed as I like these little cars.

Hi, yes you are probably right.
I did it mostly as an experiment and because I wanted to try it 😃
The sound got better straight after... but is slowly returning again.
It will be serviced well 👍

@@mischiefgarage8882 You sound a little like me, I love taking something apart and sometimes just for the hell of it. It more than likely sounded better due to the new oil. Don't worry about it, just enjoy the cheap motoring.

How much oversize of the bearings did you use 0.50 / 0.25 ? if any overzise at all?.
Nice job done anyway not in the best conditions so to see.

Oversized bearings can't be used without (re)grinding the crank, which stayed in the engine.

I’ve polished my cranckshaft as well with wet sandpaper and a 400 grit

What was the mileage? Mine's on 199,350 and just started tapping noise when cold - immediately after oil and filter change. Very suspicious!

Same! i changed my oil and filter as well. and then it started coming

The answer could be thinner oil if the oil is as an example 0w30 it I really thin but if you used a 5w40 before where the oil I thicker it could have filed the gap in the bearing

When do the timing chains need doing on these

Should last the life of the engine but if they are making a metallic knocking sound after warning up … time to change

A good bit of film, but it would have been nice to hear the engine noise before you did the work. Good job.👍

The car had a ticking noise when it was cold. It almost disappeared when it got warm.
Replacing the bearings means there is no ticking anymore.
