You're right Richard. The S is still the car that moved the goalposts, set the benchmarks and forced the change. If the other manufacturers were honest, it's the car that's responsible for at least 60% (more!) of the (non-Chinese) EVs on the road today.
Bought a Model 3 Performance from you in December. Absolutely loving it. It just does everything so well. Things that have impressed me the most? It's performance obviously, when I left your showroom and put my foot down for the first time is something that will stay with me for a while, and it's fun to scare passengers who just don't expect it. The stereo is also brilliant like you say. I must also say the efficiency of it has really impressed me. I went upto Yorkshire for a long weekend and on the return journey I challenged myself to do it none stop! It was 250miles back to Gloucestershire, it was 11deg and heavy showers but the car did it. With 40miles of range left. That was 97% motorway. Over 3000 miles done in it and the average efficiency is just below 250wh/m. Things I don't like? Not much. I do wish it was a bit more distinctive and interesting to look at, every other EV you see is a Model 3!
"every other EV you see is a Model 3!" not in Japan you don't, haha! I wish we had more EVs over here but Japan seems to be stuck in a bubble called the petrol past.
@@rogerstarkey5390 a good point. I guess I mean I wish the performance version was a little more distinctive. Parked next to my friends LR most would struggle to tell them apart.
@@nicksutton2964 ha, I do find myself spotting more and more EVs in the UK which is good. The most exciting and interesting cars coming out seem to be EVs. You would think Japan would embrace them more.
Had model S for about 7 years P90DL, picked up MYLR 3 weeks ago. MY is probably the best all round car I've ever owned, my wife loves it. But, despite the size of the MS, slightly less practical boot and interior space (for a family), also pricey elements that might need attention eventually, there is just something about it. I'll always love it the most. Brilliant car.
Just finished a 7500km (4650 mile) summer vacation in a Model 3 LR, travelling from central Norway to the UK and back via France and Germany. That included 3000km in 3 days for the outward journey. My conclusion is that it is a fantastic car for long distance travel. Even at german speeds i can drive over well 2 hours between charges, and recharge for another 2+ hours in the time it takes to walk the dog, take a pee and drink some coffee. Luggage space is restrictive with respect to large objects, but it will actually take a huge amount of stuff if you pack it well. And the supercharger network genuinely makes it easier to travel with than an ICE. My only complaints are the road noise, which is really only a big issue on rough roads (Sweden and Norway basically), and the sometimes obscure locations for supercharger stations.
The same here, did some 3000 km in Tesla ModelY LR through the EU (Belgim, Germany, Austria, Czech Republic, Poland, Baltic States). Tesla Supercharger network and the range + storage space of the car makes it a perfect family car for long journeys.
altough some large objects fit really well, our kids stroller just 'rides' in the boot in the rolling way which makes it very easy to put in out etc. My parents V70xc does not have this space.
@@KDR816 - It turns on the aircon and maintains a constant temperature. But crucially it puts up a message on the LCD screen saying that the dog is OK and displaying the temperature.
I’ve been driving a Polestar 2 for nearly 2 years and would probably still choose it again today. I love the design, the OTA updates and the spec & performance is awesome for the price. The BMW i4 is up there, but like you mentioned - it’s smaller in the back and would cost another £20k over the Polestar 2. Little things annoying me too - I couldn’t buy a car which defaulted to lane assist on. Having to disable that each time I drove it would wind me up - Hyundai and Kia - I’m looking at you ! My P2 goes back in September 2023 so I will most likely need to get my replacement ordered by the end of this year. I’m waiting on the Polestar 3 SUV - kinda hoping Polestar don’t just release the £110k version first, but also another cheaper spec version 🤞🏻
Genius rapid fire overview, you covered some ground. Ive driven my 2014 P85 Model S 125,000 UK miles. its RWD and I find I like the handling of the RWDs. Just been mountain biking chucked my 29er full suspension mountain bike in the back wheels on! Its so comfy and to be honest in pearl white, cream interior, with black 19" wheels, red calipers, sun roof delete black roof, Alcantara headlining, carbon spolier it still looks the dogs, still 250 miles range and............ its free to charge! Got a Plaid on order plus Roadster (if it ever happens 5 years is a long time to wait) but I may even save the cash and keep the 2012 design classic, its so good and still holds its own today.........bizarre car!
The model S design is at least 10 years old. The other cars are much newer and still the S is the Benchmark. That shows clearly how far ahead Tesla is.
@@karihautala3037 After 10 years, the competition can come near. I am impressed. Do you really think Tesla has been doing nothing all those years? Only serious competition is from the Chinese firms (BYD, NIO, Xpeng, Geely). And the big question is... will the others go bankrupt or are they bailed out by the Government (again)
@@karihautala3037 guess you haven’t heard about the structural 4680 battery pack and the giga castings then. Their lead in cheap and efficient production is still tremendous.
@@verbimaarten the 4680 is just a bigger battery and giga casting isn’t new and has proven to not work well. Tesla Isn’t ahead of the game anymore. Yes many people buy Tesla’s however the other ev companies have done everything Tesla has done in a shorter amount of time and has done it better as well.
@@JohnDoe-vf3qoexcept for the excellent reach of the charging network, and amazing function for price deal. No question which cars are the benchmarks…..
I own a performance model y and the comfort is quite good, the fact that it is a little bit lower than a long range model y makes it look better also in my opinion. I intend to change the 21 inch wheels for 19 inch ones, to further enhance it's efficiency and comfort. Overall very happy
Great video, like a Pistonheads meet for EVs! All lovely looking cars, well the i4 is debatable! Nice to get a quick run down of the top end of the EV market, looking forward to the sub 35K version for us at the other end of the market! Have to say the Audi seemed the nicest to sit inside of, having sat in the hot seat of all of those! The Polestar, agreed the personal space felt intruded by the the cabin fixtures.
Its great to watch an enthusiastic and knowledgeable person at work ! Always enjoyable to watch...I'm not really much of a car fan - I've owned 2 beetles, and currently a Peugeot 206. Funny that I wanted a FI Mclaren, the fastest road car of its day ! It is looking a bit slow, compared to the top EVs. But I saw a Porsche Taycan GTS in white (in Newquay) - that is a seriously good looking car...But as I like a bit of practicality, I may settle for a Cybertruck "when my divi comes thru' "...
Great video Richard. I don’t like the BMW brand for a many reasons, but if I would sell my Model S I would buy the i4 e40 RWD. It’s not a good looking car with that cones but affordable and efficient and Tesla Bjorn from Norway pulled out 417 miles from a single charge of this poor man’s entry level sedan!☝️😉👏
This is a totally amazing video. Such a broad test and comparison. Only missing my Model 3 Long Range but i confess that is very personal 😎 You are totally amazing!
Great impressions. We are on the waiting list for a Model Y (from a 2019 Diesel Range Rover Equove First Edition). A few things to lose but a lot to gain. Very excited.
Completely agree with you on the Polestar I thought the same. Currently I have Mech E X rear wheel drive which I like and getting 300+ miles on a full charge. Got my Model Y LR on order hopefully get it September...
Excellent video. Richard and team - you're getting very good at these! Hired a Tesla M3 LR in the States and the thing that I noticed straight away (aside from the performance) was the sound system. Really, really good. Have a M3P on order for later this year now...
I'm with you on the left leg issue, I had a 440i before my M3P and it was always an issue for me. I have a bad back, and not being able to put my left leg where it naturally wants to be sets it off. I test drove a Polestar 2 the other week and have ruled it out due to the same issue. I found the offset position really uncomfortable. As you say it probably only affects a small number of people, but when it does it is a problem. I have no such issue with the Tesla.
I always wonder why an ICE manufacturer couldn't simply build a new floor pan to weld into the body? Move the stiffeners around to compensate for loss of "the hump"......?
Another excellent video which demonstrates why RSEV is one of the best electric vehicle channels on RUclips. Where else could you see all these vehicles lined up in one place? A great critique of pros and cons which demonstrates that the cars have something to offer everyone. I was looking forward to seeing the Twizy in the runner up category, though! Maybe next time.
Hi Richard. Thanks for keeping the great videos going 👍👍👍 Re the BM, I am a 100% with you on the transmission tunnel. I had BMWs for years (now in a model 3 LRDM) but the back and leg ache in the smaller models got me in the end. Really disappointed to see it in the electric range! Dan
Great comparison, I am getting a i4 M50 in two weeks. I like the price value compared with Audi and Porsche, and the design inside and out. I did order the same all black version like you, in my mind the kidney looks best in that combination. I currently drive a Volvo XC40 and agree with your assessment of the Polestar. Volvo and Polestar are really fun to drive. Little compromised on range. Google route planning is best in industry behind Tesla.
The Volvos will always have a little less range than other brands because they are built with stronger materials to make them probably the safest cars in the world and yes safer than Tesla.
Nice mostly comprehensive review! BTW, you mentioned the hole in the roof for a roof rack in the Audi (IIRC) but didn't mention that the Polestar also has them. You mentioned that the BMW i4 has an electric retractable tow hook but didn't mention that the Polestar 2 also has this option (semi-electric). There was also mention of the sculpted battery pack for more leg space in the back set of the Audi (IIRC) and the Polestar also has this. Software updates, glass roof, etc.... I'm biased because I chose the Polestar 2 DMLR (Launch Edition) and love it!
My wife has a Model Y Performance (late 2021 model (Late September Delivery)) and I have a Model 3 Performance (late 2022 Model (early September delivery)). The reason why we bought the Model 3 was due to the fact that the Model Y impressed us. Also, we had only vehicle between us (the Model Y) for an entire year. Now we have a his and hers combo in Tesla. I am sure the other vehicles are excellent, but Teslas have a wonderful charging network worldwide.
loved your review i have ordered a model y for ease of getting in and out of i am 75 like the model x and the taycan keep up the good work live in the uk
You did not talk about hitch capabilities - thats quite important here in Norway.. I prefer the Teslas, best quality car ive ever owned.. almost 100k km and no rattling, no leaks, no gearbox malfunction, no bad motor sound, no service… way better than my previous new bmw, vw, Mercedes and Toyotas.
If I had the money I would buy the Porsche Taycan because ticks all the boxes but I have to live with within my budget. So I seriously love my BMW i4 M sport eDrive 40 best car I have ever owned. All those outstanding cars comes down to personal tastes and budgets.
Great video Richard, nice and thorough. Partially biased opinion here with an e-tron GT arriving next month after a near miss in trying to acquire one last year. I did like the BMW i4 e drive 40 when I drove it, enough to order one. It's a very capable car but sadly the deal I signed for couldn't be honoured by BMW due to supply issues (unable to deliver the car in the same quarter as ordered so the signed for finance rate no longer applied and the RRP went up). Haven't driven a Taycan, but would love a go in one at some point. Keep up the good work!
Got a white interior pearl white 2021 refresh Tesla model 3 Performance. Amazing car at the price it’s one of the 10% fastest cars at a price that you can still pay… Going to be my last car I own so I stretched my budget and took the biggest 5 year loan I could pay and when I’m retiring in 3 years it’s paid for and I’m still going to have a smile on my face at every traffic light when I push the fun pedal…🥰
Love watching your videos Richard. All great cars and your reviews are very informative. Could I request that you disclose in future android auto compatibility as well as car play. There are a lot of us out there who don't have iphones.
Brilliant video Richard. When you ever get hold 22 M3P, could you please do side by side performance comparison with 21/20 model? A lot of rumours out where saying that 79 KWh LG pack that is fitted to 22 models is limiting factor in drivetrain and performance is way less compared to 82KWh Panasonic pack that was fitted to 2020/21 cars. Would love to know if Tesla miss-selling M3P LG pack performance
@@TeslaEdi Yeah I have Ryzen & Pana. I nearly ordered in Jan but wanted to make sure I got the Ryzen chip. Ordered Feb 7th, delivered Mar 8th. Feb 8th estimate for delivery moved from March to July. I know some guys who ordered the day after me who still don't have their cars and will get the LG so I timed it perfectly. More luck than judgement. Not sure my car will be more valuable though.
@@73henny when it comes to selling you will 100% can ask a premium but only as a private sale as WBAC and the likes will be clueless. People who know their stuff would pay more for your car, trust me.
There is only one brand of EV that you can make stress free journeys in ! *Richard, more than anyone, knows this , but doesn’t want to tie his business to just one brand. I wouldn’t either if RSEV was my brand* I could have purchased a Taycan .. but I repeatedly drive from the Algarve to Warwickshire! Try that in a Porsche Taycan and your blood pressure will go ballistic!
I do agree the Tesla mapping/navigation is amazing for its Supercharging inclusion, as well simply plug n charge when you get to the bank of Superchargers, is the right choice if you do regular long journeys. For us we charge away from home maybe 10 times a year, without issue, due to a good range/efficient EV (Hyundai Kona)
Thanks for this Richard. I‘m German, so I do like and know about German quality and the big German brands obviously know how to build cars. If I could pick any car today (July 2022), I‘d probably go for a Taycan 4S. However, as long as you can get two Model 3 Performance for the price of one Taycan, it‘s a no brainer which car is currently the overall best. It‘s always hard to compare cars, but one have to include the ratio of price and value.
Love them all herd porshe dogs danglies wouldnt mind any just slighty out my price range but love my little corsa e which is good enough for my needs and loved when you did your video on it well done on another great video with brilliant content same as always 💥👏
Porsche all day long for me. Just looks the most comfortable and if it can do near 300 miles real world perfect. I’ve been following EV’s when we really had three or four options in the U.K. changed days now. The line up just shows how varied the EV market has evolved. And unless I missed it (sorry had this on while doing other stuff) this didn’t include brands like Hyundai that aren’t regarded performance but still amazing Cars just on looks alone. I’ve always wanted to drive a EV from Glasgow to Durness on one of my favourite road trips following the west coast taking in a good part of the NC 500 and I just think the Porsche would be the absolute stand out. If the lottery came up it’s the Car I’d choose 😂 fingers crossed 🤞 I actually stood beside your distressed looking Porsche at a EV day at the Gaydon motor museum last year, you were probably standing near it but hadn’t watched your Ev channel to any great extent at the time so didn’t connect that this was a car I’d seen on the TV. I didn’t travel down from Glasgow for the EV show it just worked that I visited the same Saturday. Great to walk round all the cars before heading in and as it was the same price for the ticket for the museum the Car show outside was a great bonus.
Hi Richard Absolutely bloody brilliant review that was, you really know your stuff, your delivery is superb. The perfect car for me would be the Model 3 performance in Red with Silver performance wheels, but I do love the Model S it's just a little bit too big for me. Regards John In Australia where EVs don't exist much Yet🤣🤣
The Audi is my favourite but way out of my price range. I’d be happy with any of them, but looking forward to see the UK spec Model Y performance. Enjoyed testing the Polestar 2 and looking forward to an i4 test in a couple of weeks. I also want to drive the iPace
Love your videos. I had a RWD Taycan with no extras and it really was not good enough - missing too many things but most importantly the better battery. I couldn’t get more than 150 miles on a charge. Had a Model 3 LR and a Model Y LR but was let down by bad paintwork issues on 3 and just couldn’t get to like the Y’s crashy ride. Now about to get a BMW i4 M50 so hopefully will enjoy the quality interior and ride which I missed in the Teslas. But I also have a Model 3 Performance on order for end of year delivery so may come back for more Tesla as I expect I may tire of the poor charging network and tech in the BMW. My other cars are a McLaren and Honda S2000 as I can’t do without a convertible and decent engine and gearbox (would love a nippy electric drop top though)!!!
I'm now driving a 2021 Tesla Model 3 LR, with Acceleration Boost, and am enjoying it. I would consider upgrading to to a new Model S LR, but the starting price has now gone up to almost $140,000CDN and I prefer all my cars to have a steering wheel included, so I may have to change brands 🙂
In Australia orders have just opened up for the model y, which are expected later on in the year. Interestingly we are getting the performance version as well as the short range but have to wait well into next year for the long range. It's interesting that you haven't got the performance Y as yet... 🤔
Loved our MS but too wide for UK and especially carparks! MY brilliant and M3 too. Both are fun to drive, the Y for dogs/load/space and the 3 for that go cart feel
I own the Tesla Model 3 LR for 1.5year. Its a brilliant car, very quick with acceleration boost and cheap to own. Very few negatives. I can recommend it.
Great videoRichard, like you I hate the pedal space and twisted position common across all 3 BMWs I’ve had (2x 5 series plus current x3). This is the reason I’ve dumped BMW for good as it kills my back after 1hour. My MYLR should be with me in September on the boat for china. Same size as iX3 but better driving position.
Test driven all but the Polestar. Tesla are the market leaders on range and driving tech; Porsche is the best and sharpest handling. I have ordered and will take delivery in September of the Audi RS e-torn GT - best day to day drive, easily fast enough, you don’t see many on the road so has the exclusivity appeal, range for me personally is sufficient especially with more fast charges coming, and just looks stunning. Thanks Tesla for driving the EV market forward and Porsche for the shared platform……
Hi. We have this video amongst others Tesla v polestar. ruclips.net/video/bUsQgUut6P8/видео.html Both good. Tesla has more range and easier and faster charging. Polestar hatchback and better ride.. Horses for courses…
I love model 3, then the model y is on par for me as better for practically with our dogs and teenage kids but in my heart I’d take the model 3 if not for that. Outside of that I can’t help but love the Audi. Don’t know why but from various reviews I’ve seen (including your Scotland to London trip) they just seem so nice and capable for long trips too. Prefer it above the Porsche even though at heart they are the same vehicle. Just personal preference. (Which is odd as as a long term petrol head I’ve always loved Porches, esp the 911, as my favourite dream car for years as they are so usable on the road!)
great video. i have to say i am not a fan of adjusting vents through a screen, whether in a taycan or a tesla - seems an unnecessary tech that has slowed down the task from manual use!
After Tesla cancelled my order for a Model S after 2 and a half years of waiting I bought a three year old Tesla Model S Performance. It is still fantastically fast, rides beautifully and has a great range. I can't think of a new EV that is available in right hand drive markets that I would rather have.
What is cropping up in America is for cross country travel the lack of high capacity fast chargers is severely lacking for any EV other than a Tesla. Example is a few weeks ago a Wall Street journal reporter drove a KIA EV from Louisiana New Orleans to Chicago. It took the reporter four days. Whereas two years ago I rode with my friend in her Tesla 3 from Cincinnati Ohio to Tampa. Almost the same distance we required 4 recharges of a half hour each. We left Cincinnati at 2 Am and arrived in Tampa by 5 am
I didn't do any research, but it wouldn't surprise me if that very well known WSJ story was a generic hit piece with the route carefully selected to present the most trouble for an EV. In any case, as more EVs get sold, more generic charging stations will open.
Replaced my M3P with a Taycan Turbo recently and often get asked which I prefer. Looks - although the Tesla looked ground breaking when it came out, they’re everywhere now and are starting to look a bit dated. The Porsche turns heads everywhere. Driving - The M3P is properly quick, and on paper, similar to the Taycan. It did however feel like a fast saloon car whereas the Porsche drives like a Porsche. I miss the one pedal driving though. Quality - No comparison. The Tesla was starting to rattle and feel its age after 2 years although initial build quality was good. The Taycan is in a different league. Tech - Tesla wins this one for me. Although it needs a driver display console, everything was where you wanted it and just worked. Porsche PCM isn’t as intuitive and has flaked out on me a few times. Parking cameras are better on the Tesla - the Porsche wheel cams are essential. I also miss the gear change stalk, being able to go through width restrictions and Superchargers. Overall - £55k v £135k isn’t a fair fight so kudos to Tesla for beating the Porsche in some areas, I loved my Tesla but I think I love the Taycan a bit more.
Great video but really needs some colour! Black, White or Grey is all a bit dull! Need some nice shades of red and blue! Model S for me if I could afford one!
Two things before I comment about my car.... 1) 'Golf bats' 😆 Been watching Top Gear re-runs?! 2) I always admire your humble and professional nature Richard. I'm in love with my M3 LR. With the Acceleration Boost, I can't believe how rapid it is, it takes me by surprise when I open the taps. Best of all though is the comfort and efficiency. I commute 230miles a day and the car is averaging 219Wh per mile, even with music, aircon and speed set to 68mph. You're so right about horses for courses Richard. There are plenty of great choices now. The best thing anyone can do is just try stuff and don't listen to haters. There are plenty of unfounded opinions about cars. Great vid 👌🏻
I have to say I’m dying for the model S plaid refresh to hit our shores. Tesla are still a generation ahead of the competition in terms of battery tech I feel. I own the model 3 performance and Audi etron vorsprung, and like you said horses for courses… Audi is a super smooth cruiser, but I do just love the feel of the Tesla power! But I’d have the Porsche too, I think they did a fantastic job!
@@rogerstarkey5390 I’d also agree, but it’s a good way to describe it… regardless of how it’s defined though, the very lack of it over here is frustrating haha
I have been waiting for my i4 M50 for 10 years. I say that because the Model S set the standard for me, but the i4 I can finally afford. I love the looks of the Audi GT. But the i4's styling, drive, and tech with the standard wheels giving very good real wold range is amazingly good value. Good summary. However, if you are going to compare the Model Y - where is the iX?
I liked the P90D I had so much that eventually I sold my aging 911 turbo and was not sure about trading the P90D for the Plaid. I got the Plaid anyway for a year now. I hope you get one soon too, it is not one I would change for any other car.
I tried the Polestar 2 and the huge console is a disaster. I agree with you about the knee space. Also the cup holders are placed really bad. Such a shame, because it's a good and affordable car 🚗
Great video. Tycan for me ... or maybe the Audi... no a model S.... but not the BMW or Model Y cant do the looks sorry, Nice that there is now such an excellent choice
May I add that you in Europe have the Tesla Plaid to look forward to....I can't see ANY MANUFACTURER in the very near future to be able to do this!!!!...... A Tesla Model S Plaid in Napierville, Quebec set the new record for the fastest quarter-mile time for the electric sedan at 8.83 seconds and 161mph. The Model S had a stripped out interior for weight savings, as well as SV104 wheels wrapped in Mickey Thompson drag radials at the rear and Michelin PS4 tires on the front. Not content with the blistering fast time, the same Model S Plaid has set a new record this week. At the same track in Napierville the Model S crossed the line in just 8.77 seconds at 162.55mph (261.60km/h), a 5.67 second 1/8 mile time and an outstanding 125MPH to 162MPH time in 3.1 seconds!!! As for what changed that allowed the car to go faster this time the owner, TMC user mulot30th, said there was an additional 60lb weight saving over the previous attempt due to someone else being behind the wheel on the run. Additionally he said there a slight change to the suspension. “Main change is suspension geometry change (slight) which reduce “tire drag” a little bit at least that is what I intended to do with that and have worked,” he said. Interestingly, the top speed at the end of his quarter mile run of 162.55mph is inches away from the electronically limited top speed (when not in Track Mode) of 163mph. As first told earlier this week, Quebec-based Ingenext was able to hack their way past that limiter and reached a top speed of 216mph (347km/h). As for this Model S Plaid, the owner says that while the car does not feel like it is slowing down when crossing the line, he feels there is not much room to improve beyond 8.77s with the current setup, but a BIG brake option available from Tesla and several other Tesla specific after market parts dealers at a much reduced price, and TOP OF THE LINE HIGH SPEED RATED STREET TIRES should also be used! You can check out the record runs both of TOP SPEED and FASTEST QUARTER MILE time on several RUclips channels
Great video. I’m in a position where I may have to get my own car. Currently got a ‘facelift’ SR+ and have a choice of either an older (c2017) Model S 75D or newer (c2021) Model 3 LR. What would be your choice and why?
Model 3 lr has the range and charge speed. But s I’m always a sucker for as more refined and better ride. If you enjoy the sr (fantastic car), then keep to the 3 ?
The SR+ I have is a company car so it may have to go back hence the dilemma. Other option could be RR Sport but that would be c2017 plate so similar to the Model S. I’ve always wanted a RR of some description! Lots of different variants of the Model S as well and I want the most spec I can get obviously. Appreciate the help btw 👍🏻
The model 3 and Y do have matrix lights but they haven't been activated to operate with full beam etc to blank out sections. The USA only approved the use of matrix lights this year unlike the UK which already has them approved so not activated for any country yet I dont think and likely will come as a software update sometime in the future.
Which do you prefer for a long trip across the country? The porsche and audi charge port location is not the best location. I love my Model 3 and might go for the Y next time. :)
Clive , as a MY owner .. May I kindly offer some advice ? (i) try and find the extra £ for a colour (ii) go for 20 inch rims to avoid ghastly plastic trims (iii) buy acceleration boost ! (iv) it needs white interior… oh and this helps you dodge the silly wood trim ! (The white trim is stunning !) You won’t be disappointed
@@maxflight777 I’d have the blue. Oddly, I don’t mind the plastic trims on my M3 on 18’s. :) and, the smaller wheels on the Y isn’t an issue for me. Cheaper tyres normally. I have the acceleration boost on my M3. Love it. I would go for the white interior as it’s so good and brightens up the interior.
Driving Teslas and several other EVs I cannot agree more the statement of Taycan. I have owned the 4S now 2 years. Porsche is the car that almost all car enthusiastic will drive every day if.. And we all know what that's if is.
I would choose the Polestar. With possibly the best suspension and brakes out of all of them. I bet it is more fun to drive. I think it would be more fun to autocross or go to road course tracks than go to the drag strip, And I'd bet with the Polestar 2 with the suspension set to the track settings beats every one of these cars in an autocross course.
Well I like my P2 LRDM with plus and pilot packs AND with OTA performance upgrade. This is a very quick practical car. Went with the 19” wheels and std brakes and suspension, no complaints on handling nor the brakes which you hardly use anyway. Generates lots of smiles on my face! Complaints are fairly trivial, front cup holders not ideal, Android system is great and I’m an Apple user! Proper Q car.
I have the P2 W/performance, its a fun autocross car but the Model 3 Performance and Mach_E runs circles around me in autocross. The problem is the P2's weight, no track modes or other adjustments and the big mistake by Polestar to tune it for plowing understeer, very frustrating! Tuning the Ohlins dampers at the track is just not feasible. I hope they add a software track mode but when I speak with Polestar it's not in the cards.
How big is the difference in sportiness and handling between Model 3 and Model Y? I would prefer the Model Y because I often carry my mountainbike. However I also want the sportiness and sharp handling. I have seen that a bike fits in the back of a Model 3, but not so easily.
I have since 3 year a model 3 (after driving for 37 year a BMW 3, 5 and X3). This is a big step forwards (auto pilot, no maintenances at all, no oil change etc). My son has a Model Y for a few months after having a BMW 5 series, he is very happy with the handeling, he is very sensitive for curve handling. But he loves the handling of the Model Y. And I’m a bike rider too, and my next car will be a Model Y for the same reason. I use the Hitch for the bike on the M3, but then the range will suffer for long distance.
That it's common is simply proof you bought the right car?
"every other EV you see is a Model 3!" not in Japan you don't, haha! I wish we had more EVs over here but Japan seems to be stuck in a bubble called the petrol past.
@@rogerstarkey5390 a good point. I guess I mean I wish the performance version was a little more distinctive. Parked next to my friends LR most would struggle to tell them apart.
@@nicksutton2964 ha, I do find myself spotting more and more EVs in the UK which is good. The most exciting and interesting cars coming out seem to be EVs.
You would think Japan would embrace them more.
Good thing you didn't buy CHINESE built EV look at this from Chine News ruclips.net/video/zrNLz2tX3ys/видео.html
Dog mode is a really big selling point for me. Seems like a little thing, but it's actually transformative.
Yes agree, for me too. (And anyone with a dog!)
Totally agree, it is just fantastic when travelling with a dog a lot like me.
What does it do? (never had a dog)
Agreed. (Love my ex-wife’s Working Cocker , who sometimes is riding in my MY)
@@KDR816 - It turns on the aircon and maintains a constant temperature.
Great video Richard, hats off to your detailing team, all the cars look fantastic!
You had me at EV and MEGA in the title. As always thanks for the videos and amazing content keep up the good work.
The model S design is at least 10 years old. The other cars are much newer and still the S is the Benchmark. That shows clearly how far ahead Tesla is.
Tesla was.. not ahead anymore.
Tesla

Great view of the Model S in the end. It’s how I feel even after switching to a new Model Y. It started in 2012! And that’s just amazing.
*Beer Olives and Anchovies*
😂 Richard … exellent stuff … better than watching TV !
Best wishes
My favourite video yet! I wanted to know your favourite - and you left it right to the end! Phew.
Great review Richard. Honest, impartial and very informative. Thanks
Your videos are such a pleasure to watch. Keep up the good work. Greetings from Norway.
I LOVE a twizy..! 😍👍
It’s THE most fun EV ever. Sold mine. Miss it. 🙁
Hi Richard. Thanks for keeping the great videos going 👍👍👍
Re the BM, I am a 100% with you on the transmission tunnel. I had BMWs for years (now in a model 3 LRDM) but the back and leg ache in the smaller models got me in the end. Really disappointed to see it in the electric range!
Dan
My like came in just after you mentioned the golf bats 😂, I've always called them that... right on with the rest of the video 😁
Had a ride in the Model S but found the seats uncomfortable. I have a model 3 and find the seats so comfortable. Loved the clear opinion on many evs
The model Y from Shanghai from 28 June are reported to be upgraded with softer suspension etc.
I am sure the other vehicles are excellent, but Teslas have a wonderful charging network worldwide.
loved your review i have ordered a model y for ease of getting in and out of i am 75 like the model x and the taycan keep up the good work live in the uk
i4 for me, probably as eDrive40 for more range. Car looks great imo.
Good job 👍 love my S and X, can’t see me changing any time
If I had the money I would buy the Porsche Taycan because ticks all the boxes but I have to live with within my budget. So I seriously love my BMW i4 M sport eDrive 40 best car I have ever owned. All those outstanding cars comes down to personal tastes and budgets.
Out of those the Taycan is the winner for me. I've never been a Porsche fan until that appeared!
👌👍👏🏼
27:04 - the latest 3/Y are active matrix - they just aren't enabled (yet) to actually do anything over standard ones. 😜
Got a white interior pearl white 2021 refresh Tesla model 3 Performance.

There is only one brand of EV that you can make stress free journeys in !
*Richard, more than anyone, knows this , but doesn’t want to tie his business to just one brand. I wouldn’t either if RSEV was my brand*
I could have purchased a Taycan .. but I repeatedly drive from the Algarve to Warwickshire!
Hi Richard
Absolutely bloody brilliant review that was, you really know your stuff, your delivery is superb.
The perfect car for me would be the Model 3 performance in Red with Silver performance wheels, but I do love the Model S it's just a little bit too big for me.

In Australia where EVs don't exist much Yet🤣🤣
The Audi is my favourite but way out of my price range. I’d be happy with any of them, but looking forward to see the UK spec Model Y performance.
Enjoyed testing the Polestar 2 and looking forward to an i4 test in a couple of weeks. I also want to drive the iPace
Would like to see your thoughts on the EV6 and eventually the EQE 53.
Yeah realistically the Taycan needs about £20k of options to bring it up to the spec of the Teslas/Polestar/Mach-E/EV6/Ionic 5 🤣
Sounds like you should order a plaid if you own a mclaren
@@ogzombieblunt4626 s/hand Mclarens are under 100k - it will be a long time before a Plaid gets to that price !!!
And we don’t have the option for standard range.
A 60kwh LFP sr would probably be my pick of the bunch
Brilliant video I’ve got the etron gt and I love it get lots of looks 👍🏼
Loved our MS but too wide for UK and especially carparks! MY brilliant and M3 too. Both are fun to drive, the Y for dogs/load/space and the 3 for that go cart feel
I own the Tesla Model 3 LR for 1.5year. Its a brilliant car, very quick with acceleration boost and cheap to own. Very few negatives. I can recommend it.
You are getting really good at this ! Luv watching your videos, great topic.thanks for doing the video.
I'm trying to decide between a M3LR or a Polestar 2 Single Motor extended range. Any tips for a future new EV driver?
Hi. We have this video amongst others Tesla v polestar.

Both good.
(Which is odd as as a long term petrol head I’ve always loved Porches, esp the 911, as my favourite dream car for years as they are so usable on the road!)
thanks for another great video
What a myriad of the great EV today & they are getting better by every year! I still the Tesla model Y that will have longevity 👏🙏👍
great video. i have to say i am not a fan of adjusting vents through a screen, whether in a taycan or a tesla - seems an unnecessary tech that has slowed down the task from manual use!
Seeing that model y in almost the same spec as mine i have on order (minus the white seats) makes me even more exited to get mine
I was a deliberate hit piece……….. an idiot driving and navigating like a idiot does
@@ohger1 I read the WSJ piece. It was a negative piece
Good video and thank you.
BUT ….. How the heck can you not have an I-Pace in that group???Not to mention it’s British :)
Great video but really needs some colour! Black, White or Grey is all a bit dull! Need some nice shades of red and blue! Model S for me if I could afford one!
Lucky man, Tesla S is still my favorite, but wow, ALL GOOD BMW LOVELY LONG BONNET NO FROUNK? ALL AMAZING FUN!!!!! AND THAT'S WHAT THESE CARS ARE ABOUT
Two things before I comment about my car....
It's *slightly* more than a "refresh" (I'm sure Richard would agree)
@@rogerstarkey5390 I’d also agree, but it’s a good way to describe it… regardless of how it’s defined though, the very lack of it over here is frustrating haha
I have been waiting for my i4 M50 for 10 years. I say that because the Model S set the standard for me, but the i4 I can finally afford. I love the looks of the Audi GT. But the i4's styling, drive, and tech with the standard wheels giving very good real wold range is amazingly good value. Good summary. However, if you are going to compare the Model Y - where is the iX?
Dog mode is a really big selling point for me !
I leave my mother-in-law quiet and sleep for hours, without bothering me!!

Love all of them. If you have 50k plus to spend on a new performance car why go ice?
I liked the P90D I had so much that eventually I sold my aging 911 turbo and was not sure about trading the P90D for the Plaid. I got the Plaid anyway for a year now. I hope you get one soon too, it is not one I would change for any other car.
really want to get a model y. cant wait for the newer softer suspension to roll out worldwide
I love my m3p but tha audi gt is a work of art I enjoyed my Audi tt and the gt looks like a stretched tt they need to improve the range.
I tried the Polestar 2 and the huge console is a disaster. I agree with you about the knee space. Also the cup holders are placed really bad.
Such a shame, because it's a good and affordable car 🚗

@@maxflight777 What would be really really nice... Model 3 Plaid
When they are all together, the Tesla’s are looking so last decade. In the BEV world I suppose it is the legacy auto manufacturer.
What an idiotic post ⬆️😂
Such a shame Europe has yet to get refreshed/plaid S&X.
All these cars are simply faster than you'll ever need so pick whatever one you like, not on performance as it's irrelevant.
You should talk about the charging speeds for all these EVs! I OK thing you look taller than normal guy in England!
Do Tesla's not have matrix headlights in the UK like they do in the rest of the world?
The model 3 and Y do have matrix lights but they haven't been activated to operate with full beam etc to blank out sections. The USA only approved the use of matrix lights this year unlike the UK which already has them approved so not activated for any country yet I dont think and likely will come as a software update sometime in the future.
Which do you prefer for a long trip across the country?
The porsche and audi charge port location is not the best location.
I love my Model 3 and might go for the Y next time. :)
Clive , as a MY owner .. May I kindly offer some advice ?
(i) try and find the extra £ for a colour
(ii) go for 20 inch rims to avoid ghastly plastic trims
(iii) buy acceleration boost !
(iv) it needs white interior… oh and this helps you dodge the silly wood trim ! (The white trim is stunning !)
You won’t be disappointed
@@maxflight777 Funny how I disagree with all of those except for colors, taste differs I guess:)
@@maxflight777
I’d have the blue.
Wanted to ask, would you be interested in a all Electric Range Rover / Sport / Range Rover Evoque?
Great content but was your cameraman drunk?
Not this time
Driving Teslas and several other EVs I cannot agree more the statement of Taycan. I have owned the 4S now 2 years. Porsche is the car that almost all car enthusiastic will drive every day if.. And we all know what that's if is.
man only inside the Tesla look modern
Only TM3 to be specific
I'm guessing that Model C in the description is a Model X?
@@TheVorst okay thanks! I think the Model Y is the way to go then. I‘ll take it for a test ride.
