    We have a Friday afternoon journey from Rugby to Bournemouth with these three superb electric cars cars;
    Porsche Taycan 4s 93kwh (gross)
    Audi Etron GT 93kwh
Tesla Model S Long Range Performance 100kwh
How does efficiency and range compare when driven at the same time on the same roads at the same speed…?
Well the Porsche and Audi can charge very fast (given a fast charger!) but does the Tesla efficiency make up for the charge speed difference?
    Which is more sporty?
    Which is quieter?
    Which is more comfortable?
How does the screen interface compare on each?
Which has the best app connectivity?
Well here are some of my opinions and the figures on efficiency.
Tell us which one you like and why!

That a 2016-2020 version model S raven is able to keep up (and even outperform) the 5 year newer cars is astounding to me.

But the audi is pretty much the same price (base price, probably a lot more expensive if you want a comparable car.) And yes, a different character all the way, I see that and also understand if you prefer an Etron over a tesla, it's not always only the stats that count. @TeslaFanBoy2.3 (I may be duplicating someone else's comment, but it has already been deleted) The new versions of Model S and Model X have the internal name "Palladium". Just like the previous ones had the internal name "Raven". I think it will be good if the name takes root, because the use of the word "Raven" was useful for differentiation.

@@carlosbrazao6039 That's really the least important thing and totally subjective (I think the S is quite good looking, FWIW). I guess that's the difference between someone going for Tesla vs. a European car like the Audi or Porsche. Visibility is important and there's something to be said for range and such. But most important to me will always be refinement, build quality, NVH levels, body solidity, stability at highway speeds, ride comfort. To me, that's what separates cars in their various categories. The EV parts will be ironed out. But fundamentally, what makes a car great are those dynamic and build qualities I mentioned and not software or screens or apps.

I’d take the new Tesla model S long range all day long (yes I know it’s not in the uk yet) over the other cars. Better performance, range (by a long way), charging infrastructure, battery technology, OTA updates, ability for FSD when eventually released, infotainment system (with rear screen for passengers). Also my experience with legacy car makers is that they will still try and squeeze every penny out of you (BMW) for any possible error my car throws up (BMW i3) even when you know it’s literally most likely a software reset or very minor repair. Can’t wait to get away from legacy & own my first Tesla one day.
I love the appearance externally of the other 2 but still think the new S looks great, and with all the other advantages it’s a no brainer for me

Interesting perspective. I don't have an EV but am looking at one of these 3.
I don't care too much about the charging infrastructure. I do 4k miles per year and 90% of that is local. However, I do a European drive tour once every couple of years (!).
I'm leaning towards the Porsche. IMO it looks the best of the 3. Still some reservations though as I'm not keen on everything being controlled by touch screen.
All the others will catch up with Tesla on range and the premium German manufacturers will get faster... but speed becomes irrelevant when you get to sub 4s 0-60.
I see it as... if you want sporty, dynamic, engaging and fun then its a Taycan. If you want luxury, comfort, infrastructure and range then its a Tesla.
They're basically all stunning cars but aimed at a different section of buyers.

All of that means nothing when you have to wait a month-long queue to sign up for service, and when you do arrive they don’t have the parts you need. It’s great at many things but fails at actually being a car. My experience is too bitter to ever come back to it. Taycan FTW

Great video! A great comparison between the three. Each has its own positives and I'd be torn between the three. One consideration which may not matter to those who can afford these vehicles but the Audi/Porsche are still going to be expensive to maintain (comparable to their ICE alternatives). A service advisor told me the only thing that’s different is no oil changes service intervals and other maintenance is the same.
Tesla on the other hand has some recommended items like cleaning brakes in salt areas but for the most part ongoing maintenance is not required.

Exactly this they got some negative comments from some that the new S hasn’t changed much cosmetically, it’s clear they’re putting their resources into software, range, performance and batteries.
For years traditional makers have been able to get away with cosmetic “improvements” with essentially the same vehicles. They can’t get away with this game much longer, as more customers dive into specs and compare features. Some will still insist on the brand cache and the warm feeling it gives them wrapped in their luxury badge and exclusivity.

  • @dangrass

great piece. The fact that the Tesla is not only faster but far more efficient than the Porsche and Audi is quite probative of the difference in capabilities between the manufacturers. While legacy auto makes are able to produce beautiful EVs, the underlying technology is just way behind Tesla and the other upstarts. As to charging speed, no question that the Porsche/Audi are fast, but of course this requires a 350 KW station of which there are relatively few.

This whole faster charging advantage is a bit like saying, I can fill my SRT8 with more petrol, but only run 350kms with it. Why do you think Elon wants to open the Supercharger network to them at 50 cents a kw. Charging at 350kw doesn’t necessarily do their old battery tech any good either. Porsche and Audi owners generally don’t care, because they “need” to own a car longer than two years, leaving battery degradation to second or third owners…

this whole panel gap/build quality thing has gotten stale. The fact is that these cars are well made and highly reliable and durable. It's time to accept the fact that Tesla can build cars that are the equal of anybody in these superficial measures while being substantially better in the stuff the really counts. I can speak from experience having owned a Model 3 LRDM car for 2 years/29k miles. Best car I've ever owned. Nothing has gone wrong. Panel gaps are just fine. The car just gets better and better as software updates are pushed out.
