2010 Sonata fuel door release fix

- Basic breakdown of how to fix this common issue on a Hyundai Sonata. No special tools needed. Just pop out the mechanism with a screwdriver. Then use a small screwdriver to remove the wiring harness. Be careful because the release button may slide out. Clean both contact points and check the wear on the plastic button. That's probably the main issue.

Thank you. worked like a charm. I cut two small pieces of Duct tape layered them, popped a hole in the middle, and perfect!
Omg after just dealing with pulling the trunk latch to open the fuel door for years I tried this and BOOM!! It works now!!! Thanks for making this
Thanks! Your video is tremendously helpful!
I'm no content creator. I was just trying to be helpful.
I put a small washer between the plate and the plastic and it worked!
Thanks. Will try it hopefully I fix it
The area with the worn plastic I wrapped with a thin rubber band. I cleaned the contacts. It works good now
Perfect! Thank you much!
Thanks!
Do you have a video on how to reassemble the trunk release button? I took it apart by mistake and I’m not sure how to put it together correctly. The trunk can’t open now
I don't. Sorry.
@@zp0599 no worries, I just bought a new switch. Whenever I would raise the volume, the vibration from the door speaker would open my trunk so clearly I didn’t reassemble it correctly
How do you take it out? I can’t get mine out of the door
Use something like a small flat screwdriver to pop it out. Be careful because the plastic can deform/break.
@@zp0599 oh awesome! I tried that but I felt like I was damaging it a bit too much on the edges of the platic and couldn’t get it out.
@Tornado_chaser 04 A small putty knife would probably work.
@@zp0599 alright I’ll try that thanks!
@@zp0599 alright got it out but I can’t get the copper to make contact. I dropped the copper and the circuit closed and worked. Could you by any chance explain how you fixed the plastic problem? How high did you place the copper?
You literally skipped what you did to account for the worn plastic and what was the fix
I wrapped a piece of insulated wire around it to bring it up enough to make contact. It really doesn't matter what you use.
@@zp0599 would a piece of twine work?
@@isaachebner660 maybe. But I would use something that was more fire retardant. Because the contact can make a tiny spark.
@@zp0599 That was my only concern. Thx
You forgot or didn't want to share how you repaired the switch, that was the purpose of watching this video. Big waste of my time.
Clean the contacts and make sure that you're getting good contact when you press the button.
