I have had one for a few years and man it is amazing. I added a laser bullet for some optical stimulation and hands down the best pieces of dry fire kit I have ever used. I immediately saw my groups tighten. Fun toy for sure
I have used this with new shooters and wow in 20 minutes its like day and night. Great training tool. Only tell your close friends - let your enemies continue to flounder.
Both X10 AND X3 are excellent platforms. I have an X3 that I mostly use for Dry-fire and it's great. The big difference between x3 and x10 is price and some draw analysis. I don't have a bow so it's applicability to archery was no big deal with me. They both allow dry-fire, live-fire, and CO2 (bb pistol/paint gun) modes of operation. For dry fire, this device is great with a double/single action pistol. Mantis has lots of drills but the 'Hostage Taker' is my favorite training exercise while a laser cartridge and scaled targets on the wall. The other thing cool about Mantis is they respond to your comments and have frequent software updates. I gave feedback on how to improve the hostage taker drill and they did it- you use to have to push 2 buttons every shot now it's more like a standard affair where you wait for the shot beep and click stop when you're done. The training courses on the device are also excellent. I highly recommend this device- especially now with a lot of indoor ranges closed for COVID19.
I've had my Mantis X for about a year and I love it. I usually use it for dry firing. During the quarantine Mantis is offering a dry fire competition. I haven't done it yet but I will probably do it this week.
Blake Wheeler I’d say the technology surrounding firearms, not so much the firearms themselves. We are still using a 57 year old platform and many nations are still using the AKM, a gun in service for 61 years and most of our handguns are mostly either straight blowback or derivatives of the Browning Tilting barrel system from the 1911. So I would say that firearms themselves have not innovated much in the last half a century. Feel free to prove me wrong though. The NGSW crap look promising though.
I have one of these. Bought it withing the first year of buying my first handgun. I was disappointed in seeing myself get in the mid 80s (I always strive for perfection), but after watching Eric and Chad get similar scores and similar feedback it me gives me a lot of confidence. I haven't really shot many handguns for the past couple of years ever since I enlisted and went overseas. Can't shoot at all outside the USA, but this tool should help me get me back up to par when I do start shooting again. I cant wait to go back home for leave and shoot again I'm getting REALLY rusty lol.
I have one and I like it a lot. The holster draw analysis is a nice feature. I had the original first and replaced with the X10 in December. The only thing I don't like about the x10 is you may have to buy adapter rails for each pistol you own to get it to attach.(I can confirm that this is the case with Glocks and the Sig 365) Which means sometimes, depending on the holster you use, you can't get the pistol to holster with unit on it. So for my EDC, I carry a Glock 19. I had to buy the special magazine plate to attach the X10. I can say it has improved my pistol shooting quite a bit, I did help me figure out some of my problems with fundamentals, and its predictions on where my shots were landing were fairly consistent. I had a consistent problem with breaking my wrist down in anticipation of the recoil and tightening my grip. Fixing those problems helped my accuracy a lot.
Great piece guys. One large thing I learned here: if you're already a solid shooter, don't over-correct. Being too conscious can hurt your performance. We need to allow our muscle memory and experience to continue to "do its thing", while allowing ourselves to make TINY corrections. You guys are both great shooters, and it's easy, when you already have things pretty well "dialed in" to over-correct, simply because you're already close to putting lead down-range "Jerry Miculek" style. It's not easy to make tiny corrections, but what a fantastic tool to show you where you need to MAKE those tiny corrections.
I'm still fairly new and I tend to overthink it. My first shot is usually great then the follow ups are horrible. I'm considering getting Mantis X to help me improve.
One thing about the Mantis is that it is giving you options and suggestions. Just like the paper target circle you have to take it with a grain of salt. The Mantis will give you a few suggestions for what might be happening. You have to use your experience and knowledge to in conjunction with the Mantis to really know what is happening.
I'd like to get a holster where I can practice my draw with my Mantis. There is an option with certain firearms where you can get a magazine base plate with a pic rail so you can mount the Mantis to your magazine which will allow you to draw from your usual holster.
Guy at my local sports store was showing me this on a Sig 2022, he averaged 81 and then let me try it. When I averaged a 94 it became a competition since (I can't let the kid show me up). When he couldn't beat me he finally asked how did I get as good as I have. I told him simply I started shooting at age 6, pistol at 12. The first pistol I got to shoot a lot was a crappy Jennings .22, nowadays I dry fire and shoot my smith 686 double action only and my Beretta 92. To me that Sig had a light trigger and was easy compared to what I am use too. He decided to try again with a Beretta that was in the store and though I dropped to a 88 he went to a 74. To make him feel better I bought the Mantis and the Sig 2022. I think he appreciated it since he may have lost but he got almost 1k out of our competition.
I have the X10 and have been using it for dry firing. Very interesting to see this indexed against a live fire session because it confirms for me that while this is a helpful tool and I enjoy it very much, it really isn’t very indicative of how you’re actually shooting. You’re indexed against the module on your gun and not against the target itself. Watching the live fire, a number of times the app would rate a shot in the 80’s that were right in the middle of the group and then give a 95 to a shot that hits to the left of the group. Maybe that’s a function of calibration or the placement of the unit on the gun or something in settings, but I thought it was interesting that the shot analysis very often didn’t correlate to where the round actually impacted. I suspected that from my dry fire sessions, and I’m going to use this the next time I’m at the range, but in both sets of sessions, the app often rated “off” shots in the 90’s and shots hitting in the middle of the group in the 80’s.
So the Mantis is actually in the right as far as the scoring of 2 shots that landed in the same place. It's confusing but here's how. The reason and 85 and a 95 can be the same hole I'd because the shooter has barrel wobble. So the exact point of aim at trigger pull is different shot to shot. A 95 at the wrong point in the wobble and a 85 at the right might hit the same point.
Excellent video! I've owned a MantisX for quite some time now and I am going to trade in for the X soon. Thanks for the review on this system guys. I really think more folks would enjoy using it if they tried it!
You can shoot from reset without snapping the shot right away. Definitely dont let all the slack out, stop at the reset, but you dont have to snap the shot the instant you hit it.
Ignore them, Chad, I actually think the man bun looks fine. I think your hair looks far better now than in the last couple videos I saw, with it just long and curly everywhere. Mantis X system is boss, pretty sure I'm gonna use their rebate program to send in my original for the X10.
You will get a lot of false fires using a striker fired gun. When I'm running benchmarks or went through to elite shooter I use the CZ, but I do need to use the PDP too because the trigger is two or three times heavier on the PDP. But nearly half the shots are when I rack the gun or the reset clicks. You can turn down the sensitivity some , but if you only have a striker fired pistol you may get frustrated. The main use is that it is such fun to use I tripped my dry fire practice between range time and saw instant improvement. Now I have to translate 95+ average to double taps and less than a second to acquire the target. Love it.
Been shopping all the different dry fire systems so I really appreciate this video! The ten is a bit out of my price range. May have to start smaller and build on that. But this is impressive!
Erick your trigger reset is violent. You release it and jerk the trigger. You can hear it when you testing out a variety of different guns. Just a thought.
Excellent video. My kids bought me the Mantis X10 Elite for Christmas and have only done dry fire so far. Still so much to learn. When doing live fire, how does it know what specific target you're shooting at? With dry fire, you're shooting at the phone as a target. Am I missing something? Thanks in advance to anyone who chimes in. AND thanks for your service to our awesome USA 👍🇺🇲🇺🇲👍
This is perfect. Im gonna set this thing up on my Taurus g3 because it got restrike capability dont gotta rack the slide over & over to pull trigger, I hope it functions for dry fire. And 3 out of my 4 pistols have a rail too 👍🏾
I first heard about this thru Active Self Protection's channel and got the original Mantis X. Unfortunately I never used it much. But since they have a trade in program I'm thinking of sending in my Mantis X for a rebate and getting the X10 cause it really looks like an improvement.
Since everything was a bit left, I was confused as to where the dead center was. I just assumed it was the large black spot on the target but your shot showed differently. It would be very useful to tell us where the X is before you start.
Watch his trigger finger at 27:34. He starts to squeeze the trigger. He does not fire, but can be seen flinching. He is anticipating recoil, even though he is not aware of it.
Eric's "Perfection" comment made the video. I like seeing glocks jam on video, not because I dislike them but because it shows honesty. My sig 320 has never jammed though, well except for that one ammo it doesnt like.
Chad kinda looks like the gender neutral woke Barista who specialises in Soy lattes & non dairy beverages at my local Gloria Jean's Coffee Shop..no disrespect..just saying(jks)☕🍰💁😂
It's fun and it can be more fun if it works 100% correctly. A lot of times it fails to recognize a trigger pull or it got confused with a trigger reset and that messed up your score on the exercise.
I don't understand how the score relates to the deviation of the Point of Impact from the Point of Aim. I am assuming you guys were aiming at the black dot in the center of the steel targets. The scores bore little relationship to this deviation. If not, how is the score derived?
So the Mantis is tracking every movement the gun makes to determine the shot. It doesn't see the target at all. It knows if you hit and where just by your trigger pull. In other words a 99 is a bullseye for whatever you were aiming at. It just means the bullet went exactly where you were pointing. What you hit... hell who knows lol.
how does the system know where the bullseye target is at or does it not see your grouping? Because on Chad first shot , it said great shot but he was not on bulls eye area or was he not focusing on bulls eye?
Pretty amazing that just 10 years ago a system like this was only available for thousands of dollars and required a laptop. The only people that had access to something like this were high level competition shooters.
I've never got a 100. Plenty of 99.9 scores. I wonder if it truly goes to 100. Probably, and I'm just not good enough to get there. Turn on the voice function during dry fire and it will call out your score with every trigger pull. That's a cool function.
Way Late To The Game, but I'm looking to buy... so... This may seem like an odd set of questions, but is the Mantix X10 Elite something that's reliable on "scoring" your shots, rather than just reading miniscule weapon movements? [For some reason, a quote from the Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid movie with Robert Redford and Paul Newman comes to mind.] "Can I move?" My initial reaction to the gun movement readings in the Mantis X10 app? I know what I'm doing may be "wrong", but I'm consistent and I'm fairly good at shot placement. (Should I want to change that?) Better timing being a given goal, should I also train for "better hits" or "optimum weapon movement"? Is that the difference between the Mantis Laser Academy and the Mantis X10 Elite? GET BOTH is probably the obvious response... and I don't mind that. The initiative for this post was my reaction to the video - where actual shot placement didnt' seem to match up to the Mantix X10 Elite app "scoring".
Now that I have it, I take back (some of) what I said as far as movement. This perfectly mirrors and reports on what I know I did on each shot. Getting still at the instant of trigger break is good, of course, no matter what movements lead up to it. (Sight picture at the instant of firing.) Eliminate the sloppy shots is what I've noticed this thing is telling me so far. I've also noticed that if you delay the trigger reset on a striker fired pistol, it will want to count the reset as a shot. I was under-whelmed by what they included in the package. Nothing in the package explains or lists what's there, or how to use it. I had to search for the "manual" online, and their installation video is ridiculous. The product seems fine, but improvements on the customer support/training side seem to be needed. The required cell phone app seems OK initially, but I can't say if it's good/bad yet. All that said, I do think this is a useful training tool. [I wonder what the exact movement timing is... what's required to get a 100 on any individual shot?]
LOL!! The X10 doesn't give you any slack. A little pricey but definitely a good piece of tech. I'm glad to see they have adapters for guns without rails.
Glocks are great I own three, gen 3 G34, gen 4 G21, and my newest addition a gen 4 G40. That being said their new MIM (metal injected mold) extractors suck. I change mine out ASAP for the older version(even better the Zev$55 extractor) The older gen 3 to early gen 4 ejectors suck also. These two parts are what gives you the brass to the face problem some Glocks have. But if you get the old solid steel extractor and the newer (30207) ejectors that come in a gen 4 trigger housing when you order it(or even the Gen 5 ejector) you will cure any Glock of the brass to face issue.
H3R3T1C national guard. I don’t feel the need to explain it though I was just agreeing with the comment about his trigger pull it could lead to bad groupings.
I still want to know why he does it lol. He seems to shoot good so there has to be a reason. I saw him doing it on another video with a rifle at long range and now I'm really confused.
The army training to shoot on the reset is because the 92/M9 has what feels like an inch of take up. I shot my buddies Beretta 92 in the late 90s and almost had a negligent discharge because I did not understand the long trigger and the pistol wasn't going bang when I pulled it the normal distance on every other pistol I have shot. I hate that trigger.
would love to see an analysis/review of itarget pro and gsight elms compare and contrast laser dryfire. especially since we're all quarantined and self isolated in our homes. thanks guys
I don't know how you guys are seeing your sights but my shadow 2 shoots directly where I'm seeing my front sight. Never touched the sights from factory.
Eric I have a German gun review request, could you please review the Korth Combat .357 or the Korth .38 if this is ever possible ? 27:33 you can see anticipation of recoil when the shot didn’t break. Couple the mantis with filming yourself is an excellent way to learn!
Good catch! I know I'm guilty of that too. I'm expecting my X10 today - should be fun - and helpful.
I own one of these too and it has really helped my handgun shooting technique as a new gun owner. I'd recommend it to anybody.
Is it easy to use?
@@tle1015 I think it is. The instructions in the app are clear and simple.
@@tle1015 yes, I’m computer dumb and it’s still easy to use.
Very easy to use for new owners. You won't have to unlearn years of mistakes if you use this.
How does it connect to the target is there a piece you connect to it or ???
I watch a lot of RUclips and this is probably the best video I’ve seen in the last year!!!!

It is simply a bluetooth enabled accelerometer. But the degree of accuracy of it is quite impressive detecting such fine movements.
Sure, but the heart of it is the app, which coding something like that is absolutely not simple.

how does the system know where the bullseye target is at or does it not see your grouping? Because on Chad first shot , it said great shot but he was not on bulls eye area or was he not focusing on bulls eye?
my question too
Pretty amazing that just 10 years ago a system like this was only available for thousands of dollars and required a laptop. The only people that had access to something like this were high level competition shooters.
This gadget is like a mythbuster :)
I've never got a 100. Plenty of 99.9 scores. I wonder if it truly goes to 100. Probably, and I'm just not good enough to get there. Turn on the voice function during dry fire and it will call out your score with every trigger pull. That's a cool function.
Hey Eric I love you and your content keep it up.
_"That man bun is too tight!"_
HAHA 😆
Thanks for sharing this video. Planning on getting one
I'm a US ARMY Combat Veteran and I shot a 92.9%!
I’m guessing the mantis won’t fit into your holster when mounted to the gun on the rail and this is why you weren’t going from the holster
Mantis approved!
Way Late To The Game, but I'm looking to buy... so...
This may seem like an odd set of questions, but is the Mantix X10 Elite something that's reliable on "scoring" your shots, rather than just reading miniscule weapon movements?
[For some reason, a quote from the Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid movie with Robert Redford and Paul Newman comes to mind.]
"Can I move?"
My initial reaction to the gun movement readings in the Mantis X10 app? I know what I'm doing may be "wrong", but I'm consistent and I'm fairly good at shot placement. (Should I want to change that?)
Better timing being a given goal, should I also train for "better hits" or "optimum weapon movement"? Is that the difference between the Mantis Laser Academy and the Mantis X10 Elite?
GET BOTH is probably the obvious response... and I don't mind that.
The initiative for this post was my reaction to the video - where actual shot placement didnt' seem to match up to the Mantix X10 Elite app "scoring".
Now that I have it, I take back (some of) what I said as far as movement. This perfectly mirrors and reports on what I know I did on each shot. Getting still at the instant of trigger break is good, of course, no matter what movements lead up to it. (Sight picture at the instant of firing.)
Eliminate the sloppy shots is what I've noticed this thing is telling me so far.
I just get a kick out anything when someone brings Jerry’s name up!
Amazon has a 9mm training round that goes in the chamber. The striker presses a button and produces a laser pen red dot on a target. $39
Great video, guys!
I don't like Glocks.
90%! Not bad at all.
Why do you immediately fire again after letting the trigger reset? You're the only shooter I've seen do that.
Its
A bad habit
straight yanking the trigger after every reset. In the army I was taught slow trigger pulls keep the weapon steady.
@@Solar0227 I have a hard time believing you were ever in the Army if you feel the need to point it out randomly in loose conversation.
Thank you for this great video . Very Very helpful
would love to see an analysis/review of itarget pro and gsight elms compare and contrast laser dryfire. especially since we're all quarantined and self isolated in our homes. thanks guys
I'm seriously considering on buying this.
Great video as allways u guys. How do Mantis read in the target? Or how does that thing know where the target is?
wow,this is pretty dope!
great video. does the device have to be sighted in on the target? or distance to target entered?
I would really like to see that used on a rifle to see how it works for longer range shooting
How did your dry fire results compare to live fire?
Now test it against the SCATT system.
In that price range you can get what Olympian shooters use.
Looks like a great technical tool. Thanks for the review.
Would you recommend a dry fire system? Since we are in lock down
Dry fire would be good until you purchase a Mantis. But remember, no live ammo in the room when performing dry fire practice.
I don't know how you guys are seeing your sights but my shadow 2 shoots directly where I'm seeing my front sight. Never touched the sights from factory.
Coffee shakes. Bro I lost my shit!! You’re funny af my guy
Eric I have a German gun review request, could you please review the Korth Combat .357 or the Korth .38 if this is ever possible ? This is the only realistic avenue I have anymore to maintain interest in my Government deleted hobby as a "subject" to the British Crown (🇦🇺). God Bless all you guys.🙏🇺🇸💯
Love these things
Solid pistol choice. Cool to see some future shit, integrate into that pistol light/cam. -Thats whats next.
You guys should really do a barret 50 melt down.
Cool tool and great job breaking it down in the video. PS - You look like Derek Trucks.
Whats better for a new shooter the mantis x10 or the sirt pistol?
Their stuff seems priced decent. Is there any cost associated with the app or some sort of monthly or annual fees?
HR 5717 , in your back yard. You guys need to do a video on it. GA rep Hank Johnson HR 5717 , Gun Violence Prevention and Community Safety Act of 2020 .
Thanks for this.
Love that system. What distance are from your steel?
I think we need to establish a tactical location to meet in case electric and communication goes down (cyberattack, EMP, etc).
