I've thoroughly enjoyed watching your painting videos. Especially the ones on brush and roller technique. In the USA everyone wants fancy gizmos that make painting 'easier'. I'd rather learn to do it the right way, use simple tools, and save my money. Thanks again!
Very skillful. I use a mobile phone toughened glass as a straight edge and as a mask. I hold it tight in place and it protects the wall, makes a very neat finish, and makes painting the top of the skirting a very quick job.
Is cutting in more of a pain on the walls to the skirting? i love this method of yours. I'm about to start painting my walls but i'm worried it will take time to cut in at the skirting and the paint will dry before rolling them
If you skirting boards are finished then it would be best if you taped them up, normally skirting boards should be painted last. You can cut in the wall to the skirting without taping but there is still the risk of paint splashes when rolling the walls.
howtopaintinfo that's fantastic. There's a big hoo haa about tape. Do you wait for the wall to dry before peeling the tape from the skirting? and do you just use standard masking tape?
The answer to your question Kaizen2013v "after the undercoat, what grit sandpaper would one usually use" When sanding between coats you only need to give a light sand with say about 180 grit. When I say a light sand I mean you don't have to use a lot of pressure when sanding.
Firstly that was two words, any why use some thing that becomes messy and can cause more harm then good. Any paint guard has to be continually wiped clean and if its not paint will find its way to the back and leave paint on the surface you are trying to protect. So for the fact that you need to stop and wipe them all the time makes them inefficient to use, also the surface has to be straight / flat with no bumps or they are a waste of time as well.
I'm yet to paint the walls (which are going to be a dark brownish grey colour) and just did the primer on my skirting boards. Guessing I do not have to be as 'careful' painting them final coat seeing I'm painting the walls last (I've already done primer on the walls).
If you are using oil based paint on the woodwork then you don't want to get too much on the walls as water based paint won't stick to it. Don't forget to Like, Share and Subscribe.
How in the world do you do this with very thin-lipped baseboard (top surface of 1/8") ? I have a practice board that I paint to hone my technique, and I can't freehand (no tape) paint the upper lip without getting at very least SOME paint on the wall. It seems like one of the few bristles I have in contact with the upper lip seems to waver off and onto the wall.
howtopaintinfo Thanks. I will drop a donation on your site for all the continued videos you do and for answering so many questions. Your help is appreciated!
Usually a fine grade or a fine grade sanding block as you only need to remove any grit that maybe in the paint. Don't forget to Like, Share and Subscribe.
Generally I always paint skirting after I have finished walls, if you paint them first you will need to tape them so paint doesn't get splattered all over them.

I'll do another video explaining how to do it.

What paint do you use for trims and skirting boards?

I always vacuum the base first so there's no trash to pick up
Vacuum first is the best thing to do but a duster brush works well too.
