Olly Alexanders staging was almost great. It's visually impressive and I like how they played with gravity, but they overdid it with the sexualness and I think that might've turned viewers off.
I do believe that but it still doesn't deserve 0 televoting points.

@@matthewfirth9911 Yeah, not THAT bad. But the singing was still bad. Maybe he was concentrating too much on the movements and the things he had to do to fulfill the stage concept that he couldn't concentrate on singing anymore.
I still listen to “Black Smoke” from Germany 2015. Forever my favorite.

It was a very undeserved placing. I can't help but wonder if it was because this was during the Euro crisis and there was a lot of anti German feelings across the continent at the time

England had a great song too, but the act was a bit too much for a lot of people.
@@barbarabreunis7788 If you mean this year's song, then I can tell you that the number wasn't the reason, but rather the vocals. Many people couldn't sing well, but when he sang (I only knew the studio version beforehand) we had to laugh in front of the TV because we had expected something completely different.

I also think Austria that year didn't deserve 0. It was one of my favourites, I thought it was a great performance.
Malik Harris in 2022 was a shocker. One of the best pop/rock artists in Germany in my opinion who is really talented and creates his own music from scratch.
I was also surprised. His performance wasn't the best but he really felt what he sang. You could see that he was devastated during and after the voting. I felt bad for him
@@osasunaitor I agree. I'm not ashamed to have three songs of him in my playlist with Rockstars, Dreamer & Sticks & Stones. Especially the final two I like to listen very much. Would have deserved a better result as an artist in ESC for sure.
It's completely flat and boring typical pop. I was so glad when it flopped.

that voting system only awarded 3 countries from each jury, so it was very easy to get 0 points unfortunately, that's why the same happened 1963, 1964, 1965
@samkelly5045 Neither deserved that, especially Netherlands, which many blamed on a black screen that occurred during some countries' transmissions

Embers was really good, I still listen to it sometimes.
The song itself really is, but it wasn't meant for the songfestival.
Olly's song became a hit and was in rotation on the radio and in nightclubs.

I voted for him but maybe people disliked performance for the vocal was not so perfect and for homosexuality too much exposed....
I like the song; it's very radio-friendly but not really Eurovision.

france 2012 had 0 points in televoting
so did austria 2015
Austria was mentioned in this video. They received though overall 0 points (at home), that includes televoting as well. To this day the only hosting nation to my knowledge that ended up without points at all. They were just "not" listed last with 0 points as Germany sung after Austria in the competition order and also received 0 points. But IMO both songs deserved points. Both of them were actually good but voting in that year was kinda strange at times with typical neighor voting and stuff like that. That's why EBU later on changed voting rules slightly to reduce the likelihood of countries ending up with 0 points. I also do not think that if an act that received eighter points by the jury or by televotes should be listed here. As such, this is a bit misleading IMO
@@Kessra i know that lol...i just meant that Austria in 2015 both got 0 points overall (due to a scoring system of that year) and also 0 points in televoting itself
France: 66 participations, 2 absences, but never 0 points at the end. 😉 🇨🇵
Well in 2012 France did receive 0 points from the televote 😅 but in the old voting system it didn't show until later so, yeah 😂

Well, you could say James Newman "Embers" is the worst performing song in the history of the ESC, bcecause in 2021, there were 38 other countries which could have voted for the UK on jury voting, and 38 other countries which could have voted for the UK on televoting (Rest of the World didn't happen in the Contest public vote then). Thus the UK effectively had 76 chances to get some level of points in the ESC 2021 Grand Final, and no country gave the UK any ponts on jury or televoting. If I remember rightly, the best the UK did that year was 11th in Poland's jury vote and 14th in Malta's televote, but that wasn't enough to get points.
Embers and Boys do Cry imo are actually awesome, and I also like a lot DGT, I Don't Feel Hate and Rockstars!

benny cristo was my absolute favourite in 2021 (and 2020). the song was messy, the performance was messy, i know, but it was my favourite. he's one of my lasting favourite eurovision artists and i hope he gets another chance at eurovision with something like zarime, jako mcfly or ten vibe cuz he's great

Looking at it, there were quite a few host countries among this list. So I wonder if it is a general trend to not place well as the host or if it just seems like this from a few outlyers?

Honestly, the fact Olly got 18th with just the jury votes on his side was quite impressive. That placement wasn't too bad. I'm glad there were juries out there that liked it enough for that, meaning there were still quite a few countries that did worse than the UK. Still a few robberies though (YOU WERE ROBBED, NORWAY! 😢)
Germany 2015 and Azerbaijan 2022 didn't deserve that 😥 I still listen to Black Smoke, it was in my Top 5 😃

2021 was more brutal than I remember. "Birth of a New Age" was great, I still listen to it. 2023 "Like an Animal" is still on my playlist too. Piqued Jacks had such a fun, stupid little music video for it.

In Eurovision, you can be everyone's 11th favourite song and walk away with nil points.
The fact that Azerbaijan qualified for the final in 2022 with 0 points from the public still haunts me (even though the song was good tbh)
