Always a good idea to change that plastic intake manifold clamp for a steel one.

Out of curiosity why did you check the comp 1st? I always check as you did by pulling it thru then comp & spark. I've had some saws fool you with what seemed low comp but wasn't.

My. Carburetor kept coming loose. Hard to notice.. I must have taken that carb off ten times over the years. Happy as hell after putting it together cause it ran good. An hour later it would lean out rev like crazy then die. Use loctite on the carb bolts.

Scored piston, kaput. Now what caused it to run lean? The Boot and clamp good point,

I think it is around 10 years old. I think the previous owner used regular gas and it overheated.

Just went thru this on one of these “eco” 359 saws. Piston was scored up so bad the ring was stuck. A new P&C and it runs like a champ again. These things are known for air leaks at the intake boot due to the plastic clamp they used to use. In fact, there was a service bulletin on the problem. You can get a metal clamp now. Much better design!

You can also use a Stihl metal clamp on the Husqvarnas.

The carburetor relies on the suction of the engine to draw in the air fuel mixture. If theres no compression, then theres no suction either. That's not to say that there isnt a leak, but more often then not,its had straight gas ran through it by accident or just alot of hours of hot running.

If you are using a Harbore Freight comp tester, its not acurate. It will give about half of what a good tester will read.

Agree, I tested a cheap one I bought on my compressor and was nowhere near accurate.

Thank you! I’ll look into replacing mine in the case it is reading incorrectly
