    My first detector was a tracker 4. I found it at the dump with the case broke open. I rigged it back into life I found all my best finds with it. I upgraded to a BH Platinum. Still miss that tracker IV.

      I found mine like new in the garbage. People sold house, and moved (I suspect it was bought to find property markers?). I put a volume control on it, and will use it for certain situations, or as a loaner.
      Not a bad machine, but the meter is useless (if it measured target conductivity instead of what I can get from the audio it would be better), and the housing could be made smaller without it.

    Funny, the first time I took my T4 hunting on wet salt water beach sand I found a nice 14K gold bracelet. I used all metal mode and reduced sensitivity. I guess the bracelet was so big it still showed up. The T4 is a great detector once you learn how to use it. I once found a gold wedding band in two feet of fresh water for an elderly Lady who lost it in the water while playing with her Grand Children. Great detector.

    Absolutely brilliant videos, Russ! I’ve had my BHT4 a couple of years, but never had the “feel” for accuracy. Luck and perseverance drove my targeting successes. Other videos were OK, but lacked the ability to get the most out of the detector. Yours are spot on. I’m digging up much less iron and pull tabs now. Thanks!

    This explanation is great. Recovery speed is amazing on this BH Track IV detector. I have this detector and test it out against my X-Terra 705, Simplex and my old Fisher F5. This BH Track IV is better than ACE 250 and Fisher F5 in recovery speed. I noticed that Disc and All Metal modes have faster Recovery Speed than Tone mode.

    Hi, nice tips. Thanks so much for showing how this Tracker IV works. I bought one 3 months ago and I am still trying to learn how it works and what´s the best configuration for coins and relics. I´ve tried it in parks and at the beach and found many coins as well as trash. I just learned the coil is waterproof but even know that I wasn´t brave enough to try it into the water.

    • @AmericanDetection
      @AmericanDetection  5 лет назад +1

      Hello Federico- No worries the coil is completely waterproof. Fully encased inside epoxy no way water is going to get to it. Plus the Tracker IV has a 5 year warranty. Good luck!

    • @AmericanDetection
      @AmericanDetection  2 года назад +2

      Hello Chuck_ I'm sorry about the delayed response. The Tracker IV will work very well in the dry sand. If you get into the wet sand and it starts to act erratically, try reducing the sensitivity some.

    Very interesting, im new at Metal Detecting. Your wicked appreciated. Just landed one of these tracker IV metal detectors, & looking to learn to be better at it. We tried it on the shore, at the beach for our first time out, purchased a water proof pinpointer, as well, & we kept finding signals in all metal mode, with sensitivity all the way up, & discrimination all the way down, as the instructions say, but everytime we would dig where we narrowed it down to, we then would break out the Pinpointer, & then we would get nothing, even though we were gettn strong signals though?? And we also checked the pinpointer, as well, prior to using it in the target spot, with our gold jewelry, or silver jewelry, & also with regular metal, & iy worked fine, we did notice that we had to keep the Bounty Hunter TK4 Tracker IV out of the way though, cause it would set off the metal detector, or the pinpointer would set off the detector... Lol.. bahahahaha.. But, besides that, it's progress, not perfection... Lol 👍🙏💯🔥💪

    • @bleirdo_dude
      @bleirdo_dude 2 года назад

      Wet salt is a conducter creating false signals. Though not an ideal machine for such enviroments some reduction in sensitivity, and a bump in discrimination will tame it some.

      Hello Noel- Most detectors do not work very well in saltwater. It teaks very specialized metal detectors that are unfortunately very expensive too. The best way to hunt in the saltwater with this detector is reduce the sensitivity but it will still be difficult to operate in the saltwater.

    • @noelbmwtech

    Great video, really accelerated my beginners learning curve a bit. Would the 4" sniper coil be good upgrade for hunting jewelry at a salt water beach? Or should I stick to stock. I live close to a beach on the west coast, I imagine I may be able to get lucky and find a gold or silver jewelry (certainly a lot of change and trash tho!). I'm going through and watching your old videos at the beach but if you have any new advice for salt water beach detecting with this please take the time to share or make a video on it.

    Can you run the tracker 4 in tone mode with low discrimination. If so what difference does it make running it with low discrimination in tone mode.

  • @briancooney9952
    @briancooney9952 5 лет назад

    Just unboxed mine today. Stuck the batteries in it, took it out in the back yard to play around. I initially set it for all metals. Out at the edge of the woods i got a hit, so i X-ed across it a few times, then switched to tone mode and still got the hit in the same spot. Dug down a little bit and then i was getting a low tone on the pile of dirt i just dug up. So i sifted through and picked up............
    An old rusty nail.
    I thought this thing wasn't supposed to pick up iron when its in tone mode. Not only was it picking up the iron, it was giving me a low tone on it.
    pretty frustrating. I guess ya get what ya pay for.

    • @AmericanDetection
      @AmericanDetection  5 лет назад +2

      Brian Cooney - I understand you are a new user and may not understand that rusty nails will sound like a good target. This is true with all detectors, $1000.00 detectors will sometimes be fooled by rusty nails. It will take time and experience to be able to a difference between a good target sound and a good sounding rusty nail and you’ll get better at it with experience....but you’ll never get 100%, even with the most expensive detector out there. You’ll learn this as you learn note about metal detecting.

    • @AmericanDetection
      @AmericanDetection  Год назад

      Gold necklaces are hard to hit with any metal detector, there just isn't a lot of metal in a necklace. So 3 inches is pretty good. You'll do better on gold rings, as there is more metal.

  • @Inverse69
    @Inverse69 3 года назад

    Curious as to why I am picking up old rusted nails and metal beer caps when using tone and a discrimination at 12-1 o’clock. Also, does it matter if I set tone and discrimination before setting the sensitivity?

    • @AmericanDetection
      @AmericanDetection  2 года назад

      Old rusty iron will trick almost every detector. You have to use your ears and listen to the difference in tone from a rusty nail trying to act like a coin vs. a real coin. You'll hear the rusty nail signal is kind of clipped, you may also hear a little break in front of the beep or just after the beep. It does not matter if you set tone and disc before sensitivity. You can adjust those settings in any order you wish. Good luck!

    I am interested in buying this product. I have a different goal for it though. I need to find buried ferrous metal inside tree trunks before I cut into them. People use to stake newly planted trees with angle iron bars and just leave them. Years later, the iron is deep inside the tree but still hard and sound. When you cut through the tree and hit the metal, its the end of the cutting. Will this detector find Iron or any other metal buried deep in the trunk of a tree?

    • @AmericanDetection

      Hello Jax- Yes, the Prospector is the very same as the Tracker IV. Many times big box stores like (Wal-Mart, Dicks, Academy) want product nobody else has (no competition) . So manufacturers will make the same product but with a different name or in some cases with minor difference. However, in the case of the Prospector and the Tracker IV, the only difference is the name and logo. I hope this helps.
