This looks like a really great bike and a piece of history to boot. I've been wanting to build a winter bike with this type of chain guard and a three speed internal hub. This bike is definitely ahead of even today's bikes when it comes to a drivetrain that does not get affected by winter weather too much. Great job!
I came here by accidentally. Your's nice cat Torvi means a horn in finnish :). I have retro style Pashley Guv'nor with some modification; like chainwheel, cranks, wooden fenders. Mayby some day a real old bike.. hah.
You did a really nice job to that old guess you call it a rally Town bike or something but it looks cool enough patina but the new Brooks saddle new hand grips really Set It Off
Once you've cleaned all the bike up do you put anything on the frame and bars to protect it from rusting again?? Also what do you use to clean your parts etc.. Thanks

Thanks! If you're looking for an original saddle, my go to is always eBay but you've always got to think a completely original one could fail fairly quickly depending on how it looks. Brooks still sell saddles that are similar too.
Hello Richard. Question; Have you ever heard of a RodBrake Raleigh with a full chaincase in a single speed configuration? I have one and one person thinks its from the 1955--1960 era. It has a white tail rear fender non-standard rear wheel attacment. No dropouts. The axle slides in from the rear of the chainstays. I don't know the model or date of manufacture. I was under the impression that Raleigh rod-braked bikes were either three or four speed machines using SturmyArcher hubs. This is a single speed geared bike. Any ideas or thoughts?
Looks great nice job. I do like the tan grips and saddle. Just out of interest do you find it harder to sell ladies bikes iv had some really nice ones but they've took an age to sell. Took lots of good detailed pictures and a good write up too.
Hi. Can you tell me which brake cable clamp nipples did you use? I have considered making new soldered cables, but don't really trust my soldering. Most people seem to have ordinary cables and either use an upturned spoke nipple in the brake caliper recess hole, then a barrel type nipple; or they use a nipple which appears to have a recess milled into it. Yours appear to be that type. I have just sent off for a pair from France from a company that advertise on Ebay. Great restoration. Really pleased to see you using copper slip. I see so many mechanics complaining about seized parts, then they put those same parts back together without appropriate grease to make it easier for them (or another mechanic) to take them apart in the future. Thanks.

I'm looking for something like it but finding cheep and crappy eBay ones and definitely too expensive brooks ones. Nothing I would use and don't be afraid of it being stolen 😉

Like 10% of your videos is fiddling with camera settings and focus. Don't you want to be a little bit more efficient? I know I don't like be sitting here and waiting until you sort your camera out. I like your videos a lot, but sometimes it is frustrating to be waiting for juicy parts. Also you could plan your takes a little bit more, sometimes you get stuck in what to say, or you spend time to find what you wanted to show us. Please don't get offended, this is supposed to be a CC.
Have you thought about linking up with someone in the capital to sell your bikes? Seems criminal you can’t shift them but I think a lot of the people with the money to spend on this sort of craftsmanship won’t know you or your bikes exist - most bike people like the project rather than the result and already have a full garage anyway 😅
True! I always see a lot of comments loving the bikes but that doesn't translate to sales. I do offer shipping on bikes and I do get a lot of interest from London tbh!

I've restored some rusty parts but never have i had to resort to filing the rust away !!!

The white on the mudguard came from WW2 says I believe. Single speeds were the base option for most models with 3 speed etc being options.

Always. I've heard people say they get great money for them but no, in my experience they're tough to sell and don't do well price wise.

It's just weldtite grease. I have pots of it.

Pretty old video now so I’m not sure the grips are still around but you could always search for cork grips

The rims are stainless! They're always that shiny!
The saddle was probably £20-£25 off ebay. New. Not entirely sure if it was leather or not though.

Sizes can vary so it's best to measure your own. BB is generally 1/4", Headset can be 5/32 or 1/8

One question: what greases do you use? A white (lithium?) for the bearings and a brown for the threads.
I use a Weldtite grease for bearings and I just used normal copper grease on the threads here to stop anything seizing.

I'd honestly love to offer services but at the moment I can't. Everything is a bit "up in the air" at the moment here.

why don't you go for a threadless bottom bracket,
Boîtier de pédalier réparation. 20 euros from ultimebike. Easy fix and cheaper I would think.
