    It's always great to see an early 90s Marin resto and rebuild...especially as there aren't many on RUclips. This is quite a nice example. I'm a collector of early 90s Marins and recently became the second custodian of a Pine Mountain of the same vintage as this. The original only Keith did an amazing job of restoring and rebuilding his pride and joy. Everything about Keith's work oozes quality build and finish, especially the paint...especially the neon orange front end! I love these early 90s Marins...which is why I have so many! Great video! Thanks Mark (and Mike for supplying the frame which started off this project).

      Can you give me some advice on buying a marin eldridge grade.
      It is a meon yelow bike with red paint stripes on it
      The condition is really good but the sellers is asking 350 euro.
      Is this a fair price or way over the top?
      Cheers
      Bb

    Great video thanks! Especially useful as Im just now embarking on my 1991 Pine Mountain refurb! Gotta sort the frame first. A bit too much surface rust and I dont think I can keep the Zolotone paint sadly. Orange forks, stem and bars are also faded but with non faded bits where there has previously been light brackets etc. So interesting to see you went down a full respray route.

    Splendid job. The 90s Marins, in my view, were the most stylish mtbs available. They stood out from all the other brands so well, and still do nowadays. I hope you are able to keep the bike and enjoy your efforts.

    Great Video MonkeyShred! I bought my Pine Mountain in the aftermarket for £525 in 1992 and it's still ridable and only had tyres and brakes - a bit like my first Audi A4 1.9 TDI Avant, which went round the world 13 times (mileage equivalent) and outside of routine servicing, only cost me a rear wiper assembly and a pair of rear shocks. Going for a spin on my Marin this afternoon in the Yorkshire forests. Only things I would like to do with it are, stop the rear brake squealing and find a set of original white-walled tyres for it.

      It was in a joblot of four bikes a scrap man had picked up, the picture on Facebook marketplace was really bad and I wasted at least 2 days before I realised what it was. Messaged him straight away when I did realise but I missed it by a day. The guy who got it stripped it and it was on eBay the next day, went straight up to £100 then was taken off so I suspect he as offered a lot of money for it. Still have all the pictures but not sure how to post them on here.

    • @MonkeyShred
      @MonkeyShred  4 года назад +1

      Oh no way! I've had a few bikes that have slipped by like that. I think I found a pretty nice GT LTS (although I never confirmed the idenity) and won it for £40 maybe. Asked the seller when I could pick it up and he can me some spiel about selling it to his neighbour the day before. OH. And missed a carbon STS for £100. A frame would cost me 4x that :(

      Well, after I dug all the parts out to clean them....a day before I planned to film, I noticed those bolts and thought about changing them. They'll only rust again if I polish them :( Shark fin I had lying around actually!

    That's a specific Kona headset called the Control Centre. Should have a Deore DX headset on it. The Kona ones make good money! 😉 Great headsets! Fantastic build and attention to detail, however the bars, stem and forks were gloss. Other than that super build and Gil is the best for decals. Not trying to be negative, just constructive as early bikes are still fresh in my head.

    • @MonkeyShred
      @MonkeyShred  4 года назад

      Ohhhh is that where it's from! I've never seen that style of headset before. It was quite nice to work with! Yeh I would have loved the fluro parts to be gloss but alas the Cerakote isn't available in that yet (or at least at the place I use)

      @@tomvaughan2198 If you saw the bike I bought you would understand the price. My 1993 Pine R.S is full suspension with Manitou front and rear shocks. The rear Manitou Shocks are built into the frame and are not like a coil spring or poly-bushings on the Proflex. In 1993 the only full suspension mountain bike better than my 1993 Marin Pine R.S was the Mountain Cycle San Andreas which right now will cost you about $2,000.00 if you can find a nice one. In the late 1990s to mid-2000s most full suspension mountain bikes only came with one adjustable rear coil spring shock. My 1993 Marin Pine R.S. Full suspension mountain bike has dual rear Manitou coil shocks, which was one of the best rear suspensions in the 1990s to mid-2000s. Marin was well ahead of everybody with these bike.

      @@MonkeyShred The shipping was $150.00 from UK to the USA. The bike was $700.00 and Tax was $25.00.

      @@JohnSmith-ud4qc Tax was only 25? Wow! I'm sure if I bought a bike from the US, I'd have to pay 20% on top in taxes, and then give the courier a handling fee too.

    Dou you paint the bikes yourself or how much do you pay for these paint jobs? In Germany they charge you 200-300 € for one bike frame...

      I don't powder coat or cerakote myself, but I have sprayed (with cans) bikes myself. That cerakote job cost me £53

      @@MonkeyShred not a bad price! I have a 91 Eldridge that's looking sorry for itself. Did the price cover shot blasting too or was that separate?

      The paint was pretty rough and rusty with decals missing and it had no components to start. ;)

      So i had the Palisades of the same year. That grey paint came out of the shop with a rough finish - it was said to be tougher than regular paint.
