  • When the hormones change with menopause, fibroids generally tend to retract and regress in size and symptoms diminish significantly, says Dr. James Benenati, Director of the Non-Invasive Vascular Laboratory at Miami Cardiac & Vascular Institute.
Dr. Adam Geronemus, Associate Director of the Fibroid Center at South Miami Hospital advises women in perimenopause to try to wait and control fibroids regularly.

I do not take hormonal replacement therapy. I am post menopausal with no period for 5 years. My estrogen levels are extremely low now for years but my fibroids or symptoms have never decreased. My uterus is double in size bcz of the fibroids. So this is not always true

Interesting because fibroids cannot grow unless estrogen is feeding them?
and with no period the ovaries cannot produce estrogen.
But every woman’s body is different and suppose.

Same with me. I went through menopause several years ago and was just recently diagnosed with fibroids. I have several and some are fairly large. My stomach has grown so big I look pregnant. I never had any problems until the last few months.

@@honesty2476 , the cause is unknown. Estrogen plays a small part so there must be other causes.

@@saraheart2804 If you are on hormone replacement therapy (HRT) that includes a form of Estrogen, that is likely the cause.

That's not true what that Older doc. said. Not all women in menopause get rid of the fibroids just like that. Not all women take estrogen when menopause begins and Fibroids still will show up.

This is not necessarily true. Studies have shown that fibroids can still be a bother after menopause due to factors that may be tied to estrogen dominance. This happened to me. Eating excessive flax seed and estrogenic foods caused my fibroids to grow bigger again. I keep them at bay now with Vitalzym and a healthy diet.
