    Im 2015 in my late 30’s, I had 47 fibroids removed. They range from the size of a pea to a navel orange. It was very painful. Stayed off work 6 weeks. It was Like having a c-section but with no baby to bring home. Every since that happened, i get an ultrasound every year to try to keep them at bay or at least manage them so they want get out of control again. They grew back, but this time, i was able to have a minor myosure surgery in 2020 and i was ok right after the procedure and only stayed off work 1 day. As i head into menopause, i will definitely take HRT because of what I learned in this video and many of your other videos. I’ll just keep monitoring them because I’d rather have a fibroid removal surgery any day than to contend with the plethora of health challenges I’d have to deal with when my body no longer produces estrogen. Though I don’t have time to watch 100+ videos, im grateful that I’ve learned from you all I have so thanks for all you do!

      Hi there I’m the same as you. Try starting with a low dose transdermal HRT ie HRT patch. I’ve just gone on this having some niggling swollen and tender breasts but it’s only been 4 weeks also some little break thru bleeding. Arghhhh!! I shall keep going as I like not having hot and cold, my sleep is better and also I’m sporty so need good bones oh I also put on 4 pounds in two weeks lol. That def feels like water retention so hopefully will go. Hope this helps sorry it sucks being a woman. Peter Attia does a free podcast on women and HRT it’s very good (he’s a longevity Doctor at John Hopkins)

    Hello Menopause Taylor! As you were finishing up today's lesson I was typing to ask about the effects of HRT on endometriosis then low and behold you knew what some of us would be thinking and said you would address it in the next video series. I have had a history with endometriosis and am currently using the cyclical regimen HRT. Although I am currently in the Provera challenge (as suggested in our video consultation specifically for my situation) before making the switch back to the continuous regimen. I can't wait to see next week's video.

    Your videos are a light! I needed this education, thank you so much for making these videos! Will you be making any educational videos on Endometrial Polyps? I had been having heavy periods for at least 5 years, found out I had endometrial polyps, so in August of 2018 I had a hysteroscopy and D&C to remove the polyps. Unfortunately they have come back, and my periods are extremely heavy, to the point where I am now anemic. My ferritin level is 6, I'm so tired all the time, which has made me depressed. I'm confused on what I should do. Seeing as though I keep developing new polyps, so it's not a finished problem after surgery, do I keep getting hysteroscopies and D&Cs, do I get a hysterectomy, do I hold out for menopause (I'm 43), I'm assuming they'll still be in my uterus after menopause, so then I go back to getting a hysterectomy...I'm lost. I never had problems with heavy periods until I hit about 38, so I'm assuming my polyps are a "newer" problem, not one I had in my 20's or 30's. I watched your videos on fibroids and endometriosis, but I'm thinking polyps are a different in how hormones do or don't mess with them?

      This is precisely the kind of thing for which I do one-on-one consultations. You definitely need one. No two women are alike, and addressing your situation requires tailoring all the facts specifically to YOU.
      I'm in the business of educating you about everything you need to know and do in order to get exactly what you want for managing your menopause your way. So, here's how a consultation works:
      1) You would schedule a one-on-one consultation at my website, MenopauseTaylor.ME, choosing a time that is convenient for you. I do consultations on Skype, FaceTime. Facebook Messenger, What’s App, and the phone.
      2) I would send you an email to confirm that you are scheduled for the stated time, and invite you to send me as much information about yourself as you please. You can make it brimming with details and tell me about your reproductive life, any gynecologic problems you've had, your symptoms of peri-menopause, and your symptoms of post-menopause. You can include all your fears, concerns, and goals for your menopause management. You may also send me any labs, mammogram results, bone density results, etc. that you would like me to include in designing your protocol. For instance, if you want to adhere to a certain category of management options (herbs or diet & lifestyle, or whatever), you should tell me that. I will give you a deadline for sending all materials, and will not accept anything after that date.
      3) I'll get busy creating a document that gives you all the education you need to understand absolutely everything, points out the pros and cons of each option, and tailors it all to YOU, using the information you have provided. The document will be loooooong. Most are over 30 pages.
      4) I will send you the document by email 48 hours before your consultation. You will benefit greatly by reading it in advance. Light bulbs will go off like crazy, and if you're like most women, you'll feel that you've already gotten your money's worth.
      5) During your consultation, we will review the document and address any issues you want in order to fine tune everything and determine your best options. I'll tell you exactly how to find the right kind of professional, how to have the conversation in order to get what you want, and the nuances of things like guidelines and insurance. I leave nothing unaddressed.
      6) You will go to a professional of your choosing in order to get the actual hormones or whatever you choose to use.
      7) After the first consultation, I'll hold your hand (forever if you want me to). In other words, you'll be able to schedule mini-consultations (15-minute or 30-minute, in addition to full consultations) whenever you need to. I'll keep records of your situation. Most women schedule mini-consultation whenever they go to the doctor and don't understand what he or she said, or why. I translate. I make sense of everything. Most schedule mini-consultation whenever they have a new test and they want me to explain the results. And all schedule mini-consultation whenever their situation changes and they need to re-weigh and re-balance their options.
      The time you spend with me will make everything about working with any other professional so easy. And they will love the fact that you have an actual education rather than a bunch of misconceptions that you got from the Internet. If your initial hormone regimen is not right, you'll want to consult with me before going to your doctor. I can prepare you for what to expect and what to request.
      So, that's my role. And nobody else on earth does this kind of thing but me. So, I hope you schedule a consultation and let me hold your hand (figuratively).
      I hope to meet you soon!

    • @MenopauseTaylor

      Actually, there are many more benefits with CONTINUOUS hormone use than there are with cyclic. This pertains to convenience, breast cancer risk, and anything that depends on hormones. Steady is much better than fluctuating.

    Hello Dr Taylor, I wold like to know your opinion on Acessa Procedure? And I want to thank you for all information you are providing on your channel !

    • @MenopauseTaylor
      @MenopauseTaylor  5 лет назад

      The Access Procedure is a new option for treating fibroids. It involves inserting a needle into each fibroid and burning it (similar to burning the uterine lining with uterine ablation). The fibroid then shrinks over time.
      It's new, and it requires ultrasound to find the fibroids. Some fibroids are difficult to reach. And there's no guarantee that it will get rid of the fibroids.
      I think it's wise to get multiple opinions from different doctors, all of whom examine you and assess your fibroids. You definitely should not choose a procedure yourself and you do not want to do any procedure that a doctor pushes on all similarly-situated patients.
      If you want me to help you assess your best options, schedule a consultation at MenopauseTaylor.ME. I'll be happy to help you ferret out the pros and cons of all your options.

    Hi Dr Taylor, thanks again for all of your precious teachings. What a great gift to the world.
    I have recently learned from my own experience that fibroids, (which are very sensitive to estrogen) , can also be receptive to progesterone. Mine grew during the course of a 5 month trial on a continuous regimen low dose bcp. This made me realize how powerful hormones really are when it comes to fibroids. Do you know if taking the continuous ' hrt' regimen in post menopause would act like the low dose bcp à la 'continuous regimen version' since they both provide a constant proportion of progesterone and estrogen?

    Thank you Dr. Taylor for making these videos for us. I came across your videos as I was doing a search on losing weight through menopause have I gained around the middle. I have been binge-watching all your videos to catch up to!
    My GYN did mention that I had fibroids when I was pregnant with my son 11 years ago. I never knew before that because it never bothered me nor have they bothered me since..
    I am now a year-and-a-half into menopause and I wish to begin bioidentical estrogen and progesterone
    The cyclical method attracts me the most because that's how my body has always functioned. I will just monitor to make sure the fibroids not getting out of hand. If they don't bother me I won't bother them. I'm not very keen on surgery. If the fibroids begin to give me problems perhaps at that time I'll switch to the continuous method . Do you feel this as well, that the cyclical method should be our first choice if possible because that's how our bodies of functioned in the past so why not continue that? By the way I'm from the West Indies and I'm told all women from the West Indies have fibroids. Truth?

    • @MenopauseTaylor
      @MenopauseTaylor  2 года назад +3

      The exact opposite is true with regard to cyclic versus non-cyclic regimens. The cyclic regimen increases your risk of breast cancer, sustenance of endometriosis, and growth of fibroids.
      You do not have a grasp of the very basics with which to make your management decisions. If you would like me to help you understand all the factors you should consider, go to MenopauseTaylor.ME and schedule a consultation with me so that I can tailor everything specifically to YOU.

    Hi Dr Taylor, I feel so bloated all the time since starting HRT 2 yrs ago, and my stomach is huge. I do have 2 fibroids that are being monitored by vaganal ultrasound and are on the small side. Currently I'm on Climara Pro patch 0.045/0.015. I've tried a few different HRT pill doses but always feel bloated. My gynecologist would like me to get off of HRT soon but I want all the benefits. I'm at a loss and don't know what to do. Love your videos !

      Ruthie,
      With adjustments to the dosage balance between estrogen and progesterone, most women can find the "sweet spot" where they feel great. This may entail changing brands or deliver systems 9form patch to gel or vaginal ring, etc.), but you do not have to feel bloated.
      It's the progesterone that make you feel that way.
      And why does your doctor want you to "go off" them soon? You wouldn't "go off" your insulin if you had diabetes or your thyroid hormone if you had hypothyroidism. Arbitrarily stopping HRT makes no sense.\
      If you want me to help you find the right HRT and arm you with the information you need to interact with your doctor, schedule a one-on-one consultation with me. Spending that time with me will empower you for the rest of your life to manage YOUR menopause YOUR way.

    After 5 years 🙄 my doc has agreed to prescribe HRT. I’ve been on it nearly 3 weeks. Sleeping well and no hot flushes in the day and GUM issues easing 🎉. I’ve been experiencing bleeding the last 3 days. Very heavy today and had to take pain killers. I had small fibroids diagnosed about 10 years ago and suffered extremely heavy periods. This feels more like that than the light bleed you’re told might occur. I’m on continuous oestrogen (1.0) and micronised progesterone pill. Hoping it settles down 🙏. Many thanks for all you do.

I currently use 3 pumps of Oestrogel and 1 Utrogestan which I insert vaginally at night. ( My Dr does not advocate vaginal use although many Drs do) I found out about my fibroids last week, I am 55 and in the UK. My Dr wanted to switch me back to sequential possibly to control bleeding which isnt too bad just spotting which is inconvenient.instinctively I stayed on continuous after further thought, and watching this gives me confidence that my instinct served me well. • @MenopauseTaylor
      @MenopauseTaylor  5 лет назад +3

      You can start it any time. There isn't a "best time." When you feel you want to alleviate your symptoms and prevent diseases associated with menopause, start it. The earlier the better. And that's because the loss of estrogen starts the rapid aging process (which is most of what you notice as symptoms, as well as osteoporosis, Alzheimer's and heart attacks).
      You definitely should start HRT and/or a SERM (videos 34 & 35) if you have low bone density. And if you want me to help you figure out the best options for YOU, just schedule a one-on-one consultation at MenopauseTaylor.ME.

    Dear Dr Taylor,
    I have read your book and am now also watching your videos.
    I am 54 and last year I had a small fibroid removed due to its unfavourable location in the uterus. I am nearing the end of my perimenopause, as my periods have started to become irregular and my main symptoms have been insomnia, period cramps and migraines before or around menstruation.
    I would mainly like to start with HRT for its secondary purpose:health optimization.
    Can I already start with HRT though I am not in post menopause yet? And if so, should it be the cyclic regimen first though difficult to tell when to start due to irregular periods? Or could I immediately start with the continous one?
    You have recommended the continuous regimen for women with fibroids. Is it only ffor women with many fibroids or also for those with a few fibroids?
    In addition, Dr Gersh said in one of her videos that in general the best regimen in post menopause is the cyclic one for healthy longevity and that most doctors prescribe the continuous one due to patients merely not wanting any bleeding and some menopause experts say that the continuous one is better long term and also more effective to protect the womb.
    Is it true that the cyclic one is better as its a hormone restoration at a physiological level? And should this be the new norm for post menopausal women instead of the continous regimen?

    • @MenopauseTaylor
      @MenopauseTaylor  4 года назад

      I am very familiar with "hypermobile joints." I have it, myself. I can help you a lot, but it requires a consultation. There's just too much to cover in this comment box. Please schedule a consultation and you'll be glad you did.
And they will love the fact that you have an actual education rather than a bunch of misconceptions that you got form the Internet.

    DR Barbie , I don't want to get into details but I told the cardiologist about and you he rolled his eyes and he really worked hard to get me to be scared of HRT. I came up with studies and articles saying estrogen protects the heart then he said but it causes breast cancer and I came up with a bunch of articles saying it is not estrogen that causes breast cancer and it is Progestin. He backed down after that maybe thought he was dealing with some uninformed woman. He told me initially his oncologist friends say woman should not take HRT I said they are not up to date on the latest research then presented him with articles he backed down. That fear you are talking about controls the doctors who treat us.
    My GYN said he has been prescribing HRT for 35 years but was hesitant to give them to me because of my history with the breast cancer scare. Everyone at the hospital ,radiologists and so on thought it was cancer I had so many procedures that lasted 2 years then my doctor advocated for me and said stop cutting her up since you have not found cancer.
    Anyway a question about fibroids. I dont have fibroids but a little bleeding. I think it is from Mona Lisa Touch and maybe I had sex too soon (for me) the doctor who gave MLT to me said my healing is slower than others. They can return to sex is 48 hours. I tried in 2 weeks and have bleeding now. MY hubby said to lay off and heal. I wanted to because the doctor said to try having sex to se if there is any pain. The good news is no pain the bad news is there is bleeding. So the question is doesn't Progesterone help shed the uterine lining? I did speak to the doc tor she said bleeding after Mona Lisa Touch can cause bleeding. I am very blessed by these videos and the fact that you said it is okay to take them with fibroids. I don't have them now but if I do I will call for a consultation. You know more about menopause than anyone I have known all doctors included. Right now I am booked with doctors up until November and I am running late for an appointment now. Otherwise I would schedule a consultation again. Sorry to hog your page. Thank you so much for another great video Dr. Taylor !
    I have a question :)
    I used to get horrible headaches during the placebo week of my ultra low dose birth control packet. My doctor told me to skip the placebo week all together. I’ve been doing that for the past 4 months, but still on the third week of my packet I get the headaches, they are much lighter than before though. I also get pms symptoms, I mainly want to eat everything in sight, irritability, tired. I thought by me not taking the placebo week the pms symptoms that come with the period would go away too ?

    • @MenopauseTaylor
      @MenopauseTaylor  5 лет назад +1

      They still may go away. Sometimes, it takes time. The other alternative is to try a different pill with a different type of progesterone in it.
      And be sure your pills are MONOPHASIC, which means that the dosages of estrogen and progesterone are the same every single day.
      TRIPHASIC pills have 3 different dosage combinations within a one-month pack of pills. You don't want that if you have migraines. The goal is to keep things as steady as possible.

    • @Cristina-qn2in
      @Cristina-qn2in 5 лет назад

      Menopause Taylor thank you for your answer :)
      I take Viorele desogestrel and ethinyl estradiol Tablets USP, 0.15mg/0.02 mg. and (ethinyl estradiol) tablets, USP 0.01 mg.
      What do you think Dr. Taylor ?

    • @MenopauseTaylor
      @MenopauseTaylor  5 лет назад

      Your Viorele is BIPHASIC. You are taking both estrogen AND progesterone on days 1 - 21 of each pack.
      Then you are taking no hormones at all on days 22-23. Those pills are placebo.
      After that, you are taking only estrogen on days 24 - 28.
      So, this is not a monophonic regimen. And you might find that you have fewer headaches.
      Now, you said that you skip the placebo week. So, if you only take the first 21 pills & then start a new pack, then you are taking the pills in a monophonic pattern.
      The question I have for you is this: When you skip the placebo week, do you go ahead and start a new pack or do you wait for 7 days. If you are waiting for 7 days, it will increase the chance of headaches. You can take the pills every single day and never have a period. (which is completely safe), and you may never have a headache. Ask your doctor about that.

      Uterine Fibroid Embolization is one of may options for treating fibroids. It is a procedure in which a radiologist clogs the arteries that supply blood (and oxygen) to your uterus. It results in poor blood supply to the fibroids so that they are less likely to grow or bleed. It will not make them go away. And it is not guaranteed to work.
      If you want to assess all the options for treating your fibroids, just schedule a consultation with at MenopauseTaylor.ME. I'll make sure you know all the pros and cons of each, and help you tailor them to YOUR particular circumstance.

      Menopause Taylor Thank you for your reply, Dr Taylor. I thought my question was held general enough to be answered more broadly. It’s my understanding that both uterine fibroids and polyps occur with similar frequency in women and can be the cause of bleeding in women on HRT. In this tutorial on HRT and fibroids you mention the option of having fibroids treated if a woman values staying on HRT for its benefits. I was wondering if you’d suggest this also in the case of polyps. (I have not seen a separate video of yours on uterine polyps.)
      Thank you again for this education and for offering us individual consultations as well! 🌸

    Hi Dr. Barbie, I am going through some of your older videos but I am not sure if you ever addressed this? My hair is thinning a bit, not a lot, but my hair stylist noticed and brought it to my attention. I have read that Biotin is a great option to take, would you agree? I am 43, early menopause and healthy. Also, is the hair thinning permanent or can it be reversed?

    • @MenopauseTaylor
      @MenopauseTaylor  5 лет назад

      Hair thinning and even male pattern are included in the symptoms of menopause.
      The first thing to do is have your thyroid hormones checked, It's an easy blood test. If you have any kind of thyroid disease, it can cause hair loss.
      Other than that, biotin is the beneficial ingredient in all hair growth vitamin formulations.
      And, finally, I'll tell you something you're not going to like: A lot of hair loss is due to manipulation of your hair: washing, drying, highlighting, low-lighting, coloring, straightening, curling, etc. I know, I know. Sorry.
      Also, hair loss occurs in times of stress.
      Moat hair loss is temporary. However, the hair loss associated with loss of estrogen at post-menopause is difficult to reverse.

    Dr. Taylor,
    I’m completely overwhelmed with my HRT journey!! I’m 47, I have hot flashes, vaginal, dryness, and I haven’t had a period since last Fall, I also have fibroids. My new Dr put me on the CombiPatch ( 0.05-0.14) continuous regimen. I started bleeding after three weeks, I felt irritable most of the time. My Dr ordered an ultrasound sound and confirmed fibroids and ordered a biopsy. In the meantime, I cut the Combipatch in half and bleeding completely stopped as well as irritability. I really feel like the biopsy is not necessary. Thoughts? Also, my Dr switched me from the continuous to the Sequential regimen. Now I’m completely unsure of how to proceed and I feel like my Dr isn’t sure what’s right for me either. Any advice is much appreciated.

    So maybe I'm off here but my thought is - a hysterectomy (no uterus = no fibroids) would be great for everyone after done having children and then just give HRT. And a total hysterectomy also would mean no uterus, ovaries etc... so no chance of cancer in those organs.

    Can stress cause your period or bleeding to start while you are on HRT patch (estrogen and progesterone)? I have been on HRts for almost a year and I still have bleeding on and off sometimes for weeks at a time. Doctor did a biopsy and no cancer. Gynecologist stated that if you stay on your period for another 30 days then come see me again. She said no to blood test because it will not to be accurate due to being menopausal. I wanted cortisol levels checked to see if it’s high due to stress.

      Are you "Mama Bear" or "Papa Bear"?
      Testosterone is to men what estrogen is to women.
      Testosterone replacement is entirely optional. But, the only reason most women need to ever consider it is for lack of sex drive. And this should be something you address on AFTER you have found the perfect estrogen dosage and regimen.
      You should get your estrogen dosage right first, before you address testosterone at all. This is because, as “Mama Bear,” 90% of your sex drive is determined by estrogen.
      The only reason to consider testosterone is a low sex drive. But, you should never change more than one thing at a time. So get your estrogen just right, and then assess whether or not you need to consider testosterone.
      If your only goals are to increase your energy and your sex drive, testosterone will accomplish your goals. If your goal is to prevent the diseases that are due to estrogen deficiency (heart attack, osteoporosis, and Alzheimer’s), testosterone will fail to meet your goals.

    Hello, from Australia 🇦🇺🦘and many thanks! I have watched your videos and agree we are tightrope walkers trying to make cost benefit analysis 🧐 about our hormones and our quality of life! And it’s not bloody easy!
    I experienced excessive bleeding in 2019 at age 56 whilst still menstruating. An ultrasound found a polyp and a 3cm fibroid. A hysteroscopy removed the polyp and periods stopped. Gradually over the next 12 months menopause symptoms increased with anxiety poor sleep, temperature regulation issues, hot flushes, foggy thinking & the worst was the Achilles tendinitis. So I started bio identical estradiol patches 25 with a nightly progesterone capsule. Then 12 months later hot flushes resumed and tendinitis started again so estradiol was doubled to 50micrograms… fibroids were monitored & continued to grow I tried the cyclical progesterone and another polyp formed which had to be removed now I have 3 fibroids which post the polyp removal bled very heavily for 6 weeks and only stopped when my doctor advised to stop all the hrt… now after only 3 weeks I’m back to huge anxiety, sleep disruption, terrible foggy thinking, and twinges in the Achilles tendons, plus dangerously low iron! End result I am opting for hysterectomy… I simply cannot function without estrogen… but my uterus completely malfunctions with it. There is absolutely no doubt that the estrogen therapy caused a small asymptomatic fibroid to become several angry producers of huge clots such as I have never experienced in my entire life. My periods were always pain free and regular lasted 5 days… & I was fortunate to produce 2 healthy babies who are now adults. For all this hormonal drama to begin at age 60 is quite a shock. But I am dealing with it (just😵‍💫🫨🤯)and have opted for laparoscopic hysterectomy to be performed in 4 weeks. So I can get back in the happier world of estrogen and get on with my life! Hope this story helps others… please continue your channel it has been a godsend to me over this very difficult period… 🧗🥰🙋🏻‍♀️❤️
