- A smuggled brand new McLaren 620R valued at around P30 Million in the Philippines is destroyed in minutes by a backhoe. The supercar was declared as an ordinary car with a far less value by the importer and seized by the Bureau of Customs. And with a new policy of destroying smuggled luxury vehicles instead of selling it in auction, other luxury vehicles including a Bentley, a Porsche and Lotus were crushed alongside the McLaren.
Although smuggled, Customs officials and employees can’t help but gasp as the luxury vehicles were slowly turned into metal scrap.
They are playing tough music as if they are accomplishing something here.
Sure he did I wish somebody would do the same thing in Iran we are sick and tired of rich kids running around in a country which has been under sanctions for years with such cars brandishing it in our eyes.

Christ... The IDIOTIC thing here is... If there is all this poverty. Then why cant the government make legal paperwork for these cars and then sell them on the international market. These cars are worth more than half a million dollars... At the very least. Can these people afford to throw away that kind of money? Should the COUNTRY throw away that kind of money?

If you take expensive things from rich criminals, then the rich criminals lose their expensive stuff. If you sell it or DESTROY it, the result is the same. Except you just destroyed perfectly good values for half a million dollars.
Which is a ridiculous and idiotic move. The message to criminals, either way, is clear. They lost their stuff. Destroying the things AFTER it was taken away from them, does nothing. Serves no purpose.

I get it. There’s an audience, they’re making a statement and a point. Perhaps illegal car importing is a big problem in the Philippines. But at the same time… this was disgusting to watch and such an appalling waste.
The Earth's resources wasting
The Filipino Government should list these types of cars for sale after they are impounded. They can be priced below MSRP, through legal channels and still generate a significant amount of revenue both upfront & through longterm taxes. Destroying these cars doesn’t send any message to the people other than inspire small-scale rebellion against the government.
The governments of other countries usually only resort to crushing cars when they have been extensively modified for street racing, were involved in deadly stunt driving or serious crimes.

I got to ride in one of those 620r's it was a lime green one and the whole dang thing was carbon fiber and when the driver floored it I was just pushed straight back into my chair. It's a shame to see one of the 350 gone.
Since it appears they have to keep doing this stunt, it's clear that the 'message' isn't getting through, making this a waste and, in my opinion, egregious.
You don't want to auction off the cars because that'll only ensure the buyer collects them? Don't want to make money from dirty business? Fine.
Just send the cars back to the manufacturers. Whoever bought them, if they try to get them again, will have to pay for them, again, and spend more money getting them smuggled in, again. Eventually, it becomes easier and cheaper to just buy the cars legally.

Just because a person is a multi-millionaire or billionaire, it doesn't mean that he should pay unfairly high taxes to a gov't, it's like telling people "Give me many money because you're a multi-millionaire anyway". Taxation on cars are unfairly high in the Philippines which is why cars there are expensive than in USA, Canada and 1st world European countries. High taxation on cars will just encourage car owners to smuggle cars or buy smuggled cars. The Ph gov't should heavily reduce taxation on cars and people will not be forced to smuggle cars into the country.
Last but not the least, the Ph gov't is notoriously corrupt, they treat taxmoney like their personal ATM accounts, taxes are being used by politicians to buy themselves expensive mansions or luxury vehicles. Do you want to pay taxes to that kind of government? This and the high taxation are making people don't want to pay taxes to them. The gov't should prove to the people that they deserve the taxes people pay to them by not being corrupt

Well if the car is smuggled, I’m pretty sure the original owner who still owns this car does not give consent to smashing the car. They will still be the licences owner so the car legally should have been returned to the owners
