I've driven the i8, m4 and this in the last 7 days... The 140i is without a doubt the best to drive... It's a bit twitchy at the back due to it being so light with crazy amounts of torque... But it's so much fun I loved it...
Just got contacted by BMW because they were interested in taking my post facelift 2015 M135i and giving me the M140i and I was skeptical and was going to decline but watching you video, I have made the decision to proceed with the M140i. Thanks!
Now I got my automatic M140i too... I think you are right: This car has everything what a men needs. More than enough power, great feeling beautiful design.
Great video Joe! Could you please try to do some m135 vs m140 vs m2 0-62 and quarter miles video for us? Would love to see how's the real world time for all 3 models and how far or how close they actually are. ;) Cheers
joe i've got a 340 i xdrive with m performance power kit. 355bhp, 369 lbs ft really does the job with four doors and since I'm in canada I need the all wheel drive. it's awesome.
Still in love with my 135i only had it a couple of month but I still get butterflies every time I start the engine.I drove my sisters RS3 a few times and it just doesn't get me like the BMW does for some reason just doesn't feel as nice to drive to me.Great film again joe, looking forward to the comparison film.
Haliwell Jones in Chester have a stonking deal on atm. £299/month with a £2K deposit. 48 month PCP with a £7K dealer deposit contribution. It finishes end of September 2016 so get your orders in quickly. I get mine end of September, can't wait. As do Lloyd Newcastle it would seem.
Fantastic video! I had an email from Barons Farnborough this morning confirming delivery of my manual m140i for mid October! Think it's going to be the longest two months of my life!
Another great video! Same as all your videos, easy to understand. Amazing cars the 140i a friend of mine has just bought one and there such a fun little car. Keep up the great work Joe!
Joe. just ordered my new m140 today. should be here in 5 weeks time. if your up north in Scotland West coast then give me a shout if you want to review the car on the cracking Scottish roads
Hey Joe, Haliwell Jones BMW are currently doing an offer of £2,000 deposit and £299pm for the 140i, so I may head down to halisham to see if they'll match the deal. Apparently Crawley BMW will. I'm going to take the 140i out for a spin and may have a new ride shortly! 😄
Still don't think BMW should've changed the name to M140i, it's stupid from BMW's end, and it's not great for owners. It should just be a LCI like in the past. E series had a change of engine from N54 to N55 towards the end, no need to change the name. The change will decrease the value of M135i/M235i cars. If a buyer in say 4-5 years time looking at a 2nd hand one, he'll more likely buy a 2016 M240i over a 2016 M235i, therefore owners of the "35i" will have to lower the price.
That's the point from a marketing perspective - BMW know people always want the 'latest', especially in the new world of leasing, many will trade up...
lol thats the point Den525, to deferentiate the new and old model based on the new engine. Its right that after 5 years the M140I 2016 Should be valued more than a M135I 2016 as it has a new engine with higher toque figures, power and more economical !
Mk7 Golf R driver here, I was seriously considering the M235i or M140i before my purchase, hence the reason I'm on your channel. Great videos!, the only reason I didn't go BMW is due to the AWD and the boot lip (I like to carry big things in the wet). Keep up the good work :)
I was exactly the same as you. The 4WD was really the only the reason I went for a Golf R, ton of off the line grip. I think its more practical like boot space and interior space etc. But the 140i wins hands down in every other area though - engine, sound, power, gearbox, quality, even fuel economy! Maybe one day there will be an X Drive version. But even then I'm thinking next time I'll allow the AWD...
Fan from across the pond here. Hugely appreciate the video, currently on a wait list for an M2; but have been seriously considering the M240i. Your video has made the choice even harder now, as they are both great cars. It does not help that they are both very close in price here (when optioned similarly). Given that the M240i/140i is so close in performance to the M2, I wouldn't be surprised if most people waiting to get their hands on an M2; "settle" for the M240i/140i.
Pick up my 240i in a month or so. I was worried about going auto rather than manual but this has put my mind at ease. I agree there are very few reviews or info for the 240i - I wish there was more out there!!
Currently trying to decide between this and an A45 am...but this car just sounds so beautiful compared to its rivals! thinking to get this for the sound alone!
Mate... I was excited about my m240i before, but after seeing your enthusiasm my butterflies have just gone into hyperdrive! I actually went to see my car today (still wrapped in protection and in need of a good valet), but unfortunately due to various mundane reasons I have to wait at least 2 weeks before I can collect. Boo hiss. I entirely agree about the exhaust note, it does need improvement somewhat. Immediately after I collect I plan to take the car to another dealer to get the m performance exhaust fitted (if it's released in time) to sort out the sound. Whilst it's there it'll also be getting the full m performance kit and wheels added... Cannot. Wait.
Great impromptu video Joe! Of course we aren't offered the M140i here in the states but the M240i instead. The B58 engine seems to have some great tuning potential (more hp & torgue than an M2 with a quick $500 JB4 tune). I have an M2 on order but am really wishing they would have built it around this B58 architecture instead of a derivative of the outgoing N55.
Great vid, would have like to hear more of the exhaust note but I've got my M240i 6speed manual coming in a few days so I'll have to wait until then, thanks again
Pick mine up on the 30th Sept, Thanks for the video Joe, It will be interesting to compare this to my old E90 M3 which I changed for the F30 330d and then ended up buying an E46 M3 as well. Having never driven the M135i or M140i, it should be good fun.
Cheers Joe for the mini review. Wasn't expecting you to like it so much to think about trading your M135i and M2. Glad to see the engine change was an improvement not a backwards step by BMW. Was there much difference in the handling characteristics from the M135i? Definitely need to book myself a test drive on this report.
What a lucky coincidence and awesome video. Just got my new 340i - same B58 engine and to me it feels very much like you describe the M140i in this vid. You should visit Prague one day and take mine for a ride - I'd be intetested to see what you think about the engine in a bigger car (and left hand drive;)). Keep them coming!
Great videos and shot around my neck of the woods - I'm torn between buying for the weekends an e90 m3 or m135i - always wanted an m3 but these vids make a compelling case for a newer cheaper m135i - I've not test driven either yet!
Great Video Joe. I have had my M140i for a week now and I am very impressed with the automatic gear box and how smooth the changes are going up and down through the gear..simply sublime. I changed it from a 125D which was a great car and quick for a Diesel hatch but the turbo petrol is just something else. So impressed with the sound it produces and the exhaust on any start puts a smile on my face on a Cold Monday Northern Irish morning...The only thing i question is the steering..i find its quite light and makes it feel a little on safe at times, especially in the wet and going hard around corners, this could be done to my inexperience driving a powerful petrol tho? Also miss the HK speaker system which i didn't think would make much difference but you definitely notice it not being there. If you can get a race between an M140i and a M240i or M2 i would love to see that :)..Keep up the good work!!
M2 v M235i comparisons were made when M2 came out, M240i v M2 would make an interesting perspective!! Great vid and what a guy to let you borrow his car for a quick test drive!!
The B58 is a better overall engine, but it's definitely not WAY better, I would say its top end is actually its weakness compared to the N55, It's strong point being the mid range torque it throws out and increased efficiency.
Joe Achilles But you've experienced it in relatively new cars, maybe that's the issue ? Because i've noticed on accel videos that it pulls at full power til the redline, which is pretty impressive for a turbo engine. And the dyno charts really suggest that from 5200rpm to the redline the engine is at peak power... But well i've not experienced it directly so idk.
I have spent a whole week in a M240 with 8k miles on the clock? You have just proved my point 100% - "And the dyno charts really suggest that from 5200rpm to the redline the engine is at peak power..." - So its top end is flat, the N55 continued to build power to the red line.
Great Video Joe! Just about to roll over 1200 miles in my 140i can't wait for the weekend to give it a good run out. Debating the exhaust upgrade but will see what it's like at full chat over the weekend.
Joe, wanting to trade your M135i and M2 in to get an M140i says allot about how good that car is. Awesome video. I've fallen in love with the Melbourne Red M140i. I'm seeing allot of deals on them too. 30/34k with a shed ton of options. Going to start saving now!
Great review Joe, nice one... and one of the first on an M140i. I bet you are now tempted to chop in both M135i and M2? I'm guessing you'll not lose a penny on the M2, given the demand?
Interesting video man, I always enjoy reaction videos inside a serious performer! I remember you saying you were going to buy the m140i in this video but I also ember you saying that one of your favourite cars was the Alpine D3 Touring (My personal favourite too), why not get the Alpina?
Great video, kudos to Josh also! BMW ought to have you on their payroll! Wouldn't it be awesome if you could have Chris Harris appear as a special guest (or vice versa) and take you out in your M2 around Anglesey?
Great review Joe. Would you get one in manual or auto? I wonder if I can trade my m135 after 4 months! Probably not but I have them mperformance exhaust so maybe I'll look into the jb4 so I can keep up!
Hey Joe, got my m140i and absolutely loved it! That was until I installed a quaife diff and now the car is a completely different animal! I highly highly recommend you give one a go that has a diff installed. The drive on power is very different and the car is so stable on oversteer. Even more comparable to the m2 for sure. Cheers, Tom
Joe Achilles 4 months (8000ks) in and I'm almost in need of new rears! Hard to resist the temptation to powerslide out of nearly every corner! :) Very worthy upgrade for anyone looking for some more excitement out of their 140/135/240/235.
Excellent video Joe! How much of an initial depreciation hit do you reckon the 35i will take? The more useable torquey performance should mean increased economy too.
I forgot to ask if you feel its a big difference between the 2wd and the xDrive version regarding the experience of the "fun level" :-) We get a lot of snow here in Sweden and I think I´ll need it.... / Tomas
First, great vid, thanks. Would the manual be more fun? Which would you get and why? Do you happen to know if the auto blip on the manual can be turned off?
Hi Joe- Great M140i vids-- you made my choosing so much easier. I have a white car on order. Just a quick question-- do you find the white paint chips easier than the metallic colours? Im torn between white and mineral grey but the chipping issue might help me!! Thanks
question about the m25: how fast do you drive in the smart motorway sections? I drive it every day to uni and tend to follow traffic in the right lane, get up to 95 mph at times. nothing has come in the post yet. what are your experiences? maybe ill drop you a private message about it as well if you dont want to share publicly...
Hey Joe, I've followed you since the start of your channel - I'm changing my car in March/April next year and it will be a 240i or a 440i. I love the stance of the 440 but the agility of the 240 is addictive - what would you go for if you had to choose?
Nice video, you have a new subscriber! :-) Im thinking of a M135 xDrive with automatic transmission maybe 2013-2014 year model.. You talk a lot about the gearbox, is it the same gearbox that your friend has in his 2016 as in the 2013? Maybe its the same just the software? Also, i dont know if you can convert your fuel consumption in metric but what do you average you think? Thanks a bunch, cheers! / Tomas (from Sweden :-)
Joe, could you please tell what's the response of the car (manual paddle shifting) when reaching the engine rev limit? Does it keep at a rev cut state (like a manual sports car) or it does automatically shift to the next gear even if you didn't press the upshift paddle? Thanks
awesome vid love how you guys were able to make this happen, I'm personally more of a fan of the 2 series but still its a beast, i have a 2016 focus RS and love it but I'm even considering one of the M240i now :)
im not sure about that actually the rs comes standard with michelin pilot cup 2 tires and it will hit 60 mph below 4.5 seconds with these tires the official time of 4.5 seconds is with michelin pilot sport tires much different and less grip the cup 2 tires are the best out there they shave 15 seconds a lap off the Nurburg ring
yea the pull does drop off a little after say 80 wish mph but its still strong. i know its cool everyone can have an opinion i think its cool that the RS will do 170mph stock theres a few vids online a guy hitting 275kmh :P
You did let him have a drive in the ///M2 I hope?
I've driven the i8, m4 and this in the last 7 days... The 140i is without a doubt the best to drive... It's a bit twitchy at the back due to it being so light with crazy amounts of torque... But it's so much fun I loved it...
Thumbs up for Josh!
Best reviewer of all time just starting loading my stage 2 m140i
Thanks for the review. Went to BMW Park Lane yesterday to order M140i.. and should be with me at the end of January next year!
Ordered my M140i yesterday! Have to wait until Christmas before I pick it up.... safe to say I'm pretty excited!
Did you give him the petrol money then? :)
Just placed an order of a M140i this afternoon. The test drive felt amazing! So did the deal also. The countdown is on till I get it now
Just ordered my m140i shadow ed, im 19 and sooo excited September cant come soon enough!
Thank you for this testdrive, Joe en Josh.I wanted to go for a almost new M135I but I am going for the M140i now!Jan from Holland
Just got contacted by BMW because they were interested in taking my post facelift 2015 M135i and giving me the M140i and I was skeptical and was going to decline but watching you video, I have made the decision to proceed with the M140i. Thanks!
Glad to hear you like it coming from an m2 and m135i, I picked my m240i up last week and absolutely love it a fantastic car
Cool review its awesome that you turned back! Big up Josh as well. Great stuff
Cheers Hugo! Yeah Josh is a legend!
Now I got my automatic M140i too... I think you are right: This car has everything what a men needs. More than enough power, great feeling beautiful design.
Great video Joe!
Could you please try to do some m135 vs m140 vs m2
0-62 and quarter miles video for us?
Would love to see how's the real world time for all 3 models and how far or how close they actually are. ;)
Cheers
Just ordered a 240i I've still got the pre-facelift 135i and that 140i sounds just amazing. Roll on the end of Sepember!
Cheers Joe I have been looking for a review of the M140i. I have already ordered the new 140 to replace my 135, can't wait!
Pleasure mate! Congrats on the new purchase!
I've been waiting for this video for a while. Absolutely love it, cant wait for the next one. Keep up the amazing work Joe!
Thanks buddy! It was a rushed job but turned out okay! Thanks for your support!
joe i've got a 340 i xdrive with m performance power kit. 355bhp, 369 lbs ft really does the job with four doors and since I'm in canada I need the all wheel drive. it's awesome.
Awesome video and certainly helped me making the decision and have now ordered my m140 on friday with Delivery due end of December
Brilliant mate. Well done.....to Josh for letting you loose in his new motor!
Yeah there are some amazing deals going at the mo.... £300 a month for that performance is simply mental!
I'd just like to thank you for the BMW videos you've made, they've been really useful and I've just ordered an M140i, can't wait!
Hey Joe absolutely love your videos,
Could u tell me how much better the harman kardon system is than the standard and Hifi version?
Fantastic video! I had an email from Barons Farnborough this morning confirming delivery of my manual m140i for mid October! Think it's going to be the longest two months of my life!
God thats gonna be a long wait.... It will be worth it though haha
I read somewhere that it's received the 235i's suspension and dampers which could explain why it felt a lot stiffer at the rear end
Still don't think BMW should've changed the name to M140i, it's stupid from BMW's end, and it's not great for owners. It should just be a LCI like in the past. That's the point from a marketing perspective - BMW know people always want the 'latest', especially in the new world of leasing, many will trade up...
MassiveGlove We all know why BMW did it. That's obviously not the point.
lol thats the point Den525, to deferentiate the new and old model based on the new engine. Its right that after 5 years the M140I 2016 Should be valued more than a M135I 2016 as it has a new engine with higher toque figures, power and more economical !
London Cars and Games not for tuners, the n55 is a much stronger engine for tuning than B58..., therefore I bought an m135 now...
den525
M140i because more Power....
Like the 228i and 230i
Mk7 Golf R driver here, I was seriously considering the M235i or M140i before my purchase, hence the reason I'm on your channel. Great videos!, the only reason I didn't go BMW is due to the AWD and the boot lip (I like to carry big things in the wet). Keep up the good work :)

Great video joe! Picking mine up on the 7th, i'm counting down the hours. Watching this video gets me even more excited!!
Currently trying to decide between this and an A45 am...but this car just sounds so beautiful compared to its rivals! thinking to get this for the sound alone!
Mate... I was excited about my m240i before, but after seeing your enthusiasm my butterflies have just gone into hyperdrive! joey the BM king.. good vid mate, thumbs up from sydney
i believe these are about $75k aussie so pretty pricey over here unfortunately
Haha Cheers man! Yeah think they start at $65k down under :-)
they are 75k in AU, i just bought one.

I love how fast the windows go up in the m140!

Excellent guys. Joe, they have one down at BMW Portslade (Hove) I think...
Joe... You lucky bugger. Lovely vid as always and the wait was worth it. Still keeping my eye out for any hopeful news for Thursday!
Cheers man. I'm still trying to figure a plan out buddy.
Joe Achilles guessing that it might still be on?
Just been to see my mineral grey M140i. Can't wait to collect on 1st Sept...
What a lucky coincidence and awesome video. Just got my new 340i - same B58 engine and to me it feels very much like you describe the M140i in this vid. I didn't know they were making this car. Great video Joe, cheers.

Hi Joe, just one more sleep than the M140i will be up my dive, excited to say the least, I will let you all know how I get on.Andy
M2 v M235i comparisons were made when M2 came out, M240i v M2 would make an interesting perspective!! Great vid and what a guy to let you borrow his car for a quick test drive!!
Do you have any video for m2 vs m235 or m135 0-62 & quarter miles run?
Brilliant video, looking forward to the M135i comparison. Subbed!
Had my M135i for 6 months or so. Seriously considering going to BMW and having a chat about a M140i. Such a nice car!
I was just thinking the same thing!! Got my m135i in July and now want 140 lol ..
I would've just traded it in right away, the B58 engine is way better. The top end is crazy !

Nice one Josh, Mineral Grey, lovely.
Joe, wanting to trade your M135i and M2 in to get an M140i says allot about how good that car is. Awesome video. I've fallen in love with the Melbourne Red M140i. I'm seeing allot of deals on them too. 30/34k with a shed ton of options. Going to start saving now!
Top boy Josh! Loving the video even if a little jealous haha
Thanks Josh :) and Joe for the review
Sweet I get mine in the morning Your videos are great keep up the good work
Great review Joe, nice one... and one of the first on an M140i. I bet you are now tempted to chop in both M135i and M2? I'm guessing you'll not lose a penny on the M2, given the demand?
Come on Joe - where is the full video review of the M140i you borrowed and a M140i vs M135i video comparison!!!
Interesting video man, I always enjoy reaction videos inside a serious performer! I remember you saying you were going to buy the m140i in this video but I also ember you saying that one of your favourite cars was the Alpine D3 Touring (My personal favourite too), why not get the Alpina?
really nice video! great to say you only had one go pro!! thanks joe
How do you feel the throttle response compared to the M135i? I feel like its worse. The rest of the engine is better for sure.

Yeah I can imagine a diff transforms the car
Joe Achilles 4 months (8000ks) in and I'm almost in need of new rears! Hard to resist the temptation to powerslide out of nearly every corner! :) Very worthy upgrade for anyone looking for some more excitement out of their 140/135/240/235.
So excited to get mine on the 1st now!

Thanks
Cheers man! Yeah from my research the white cars have the most paint issues by around 10 to 1!
Do you think you need the xdrive for the m140i? For the M240i I am more keen not to want it but in the 140i?
If given the opportunity, would you invest in a second-hand M4 considering they have dropped in value on the used car market?
Great video Joe!
question about the m25: how fast do you drive in the smart motorway sections? I drive it every day to uni and tend to follow traffic in the right lane, get up to 95 mph at times. nothing has come in the post yet. what are your experiences? maybe ill drop you a private message about it as well if you dont want to share publicly...
Hi! Between RS5, M4, C63 coupe and RCF, which one has the best exterior looking? Thank you
Another great video mate!
Cheers Ryan, this was a rushed one but hey :-)
Wow you've got a cool intro now! Well done :) My M2 is being produced as we speak!
Wow, thanks for the vid, good spot. Very interested in this new 140/240 model :)
Can't wait for mine now, picking it up 3rd Sep
Awesome!
test drove 140 yoday. Can't believe the power. Looks like il be trading in my 4 series
Joe, could you please tell what's the response of the car (manual paddle shifting) when reaching the engine rev limit? Does it keep at a rev cut state (like a manual sports car) or it does automatically shift to the next gear even if you didn't press the upshift paddle?
Thanks
If its in Manual mode it will hold the gear and just bounce on the limiter until you change up again... Brilliant gearbox! Cheers
That's great!! Thanks! Cheers
Joe does the m140i have a m performance back box too? Is it the same as the m135i? For potential recycling purposes ;-)
awesome vid love how you guys were able to make this happen, I'm personally more of a fan of the 2 series but still its a beast, i have a 2016 focus RS and love it but I'm even considering one of the M240i now :)
yea i know the RS has amazing handling and is a fast car, however the BMW has much more of a luxurious feel inside and the name appeal
im not sure about that actually the rs comes standard with michelin pilot cup 2 tires and it will hit 60 mph below 4.5 seconds with these tires the official time of 4.5 seconds is with michelin pilot sport tires much different and less grip the cup 2 tires are the best out there they shave 15 seconds a lap off the Nurburg ring
yea the pull does drop off a little after say 80 wish mph but its still strong. i know its cool everyone can have an opinion i think its cool that the RS will do 170mph stock theres a few vids online a guy hitting 275kmh :P
Great review mate keep up the good work
So 2018 M2 will get a B58 I suppose? That will be epic!
looking at buying a 135... Oh no I may have to save some more. glad I saw the video, cheers.
Just got my car last week. Do u know how to flip the side mirror?
Mine comes end of September, I saw an xdrive 140 in Germany 🔥🔥🔥 now they must be rapid!
Lucky guy!
+Joe Achilles if you're up north and want a whirl in another one for a proper video, shoot me up 👍
+Joe Achilles not that this one wasn't 'proper'!! Great work as always 😂
Great vid as always by the way
Great vid, keep em coming, you should be a car salesman ;). Black trim looks good
Haha thats what I wanted to be when I was younger!
Sounds like it does an M2-esque fart when you immediately lift from hard throttle? Want one!
The guy picked the best colour 👍🏻
will you compare the m2 and the 240i?
I need this car in my life.
So much so that I ordered one...
